Jonathon Capehart has Sarah Palin's number.

Courtesy of the Washington Post:

Palin told her supporters via e-mail that her “One Nation Tour” bus would descend upon the Hawkeye State. The part of her missive that elicited side-eyes from me was this. “The heartland is perfect territory for more of the One Nation Tour as we put forth efforts to revitalize the fundamental restoration of America by highlighting our nation’s heart, history, and founding principles,” Palin wrote.

What, pray tell, are “efforts to revitalize the fundamental restoration of America”? Did I somehow miss her detailed plan to pay off the nation’s $14.3 trillion debt and create jobs for the growing ranks of the unemployed? Americans want solutions to the worst economy in their lifetimes. They are hungry for leaders who have the courage to present realistic plans to turn things around. But if some of those Americans are looking to Palin for said solutions, they are bound to starve.

Remember, no matter what she says or does, Palin is not running for president. The half-term governor of Alaska parlayed her 2008 vice presidential nomination into a bankroll-busting career as a best-selling author and reality-television star who is accountable to no one but herself for what she says and does. As a star, Palin is terrific. She’s a natural talent. And she is well aware of and comfortable in exercising her ability to steal other people’s spotlight. That she would give up that kind of power for the confines of the campaign trail is unfathomable.

Now why does that summation sound familiar?

Oh yeah, because THAT is pretty much what I have been saying all along.

And I have to say that with Bristol's new reality show, Mercede's Playboy interview, the birth of a new grandbaby raising embarrassing questions, and Levi and Joe's books about to hit the stands, I find it even less likely she will declare than I ever did in the past.

However, and I feel obligated to always add this caveat, this IS Sarah Palin, who might very well be willing to launch a Presidential campaign solely to prove her critics wrong.

Yes, she IS that petty.

However I have no idea who Palin can convince to accompany her on the campaign trail if she WERE to declare her candidacy.  Piper starts school next Tuesday (Yes she is going to school, one of my sources saw her registering), Bristol is filming her reality show, Track has a new baby to care for (And has said he wants NOTHING to do with her political activities), Willow is completely uncooperative, and Trig is much too big, and much too fussy to take along for photo ops.

That leaves only Sarah's parents (And really WHO finds them interesting anymore?), and Todd (Who I imagine has it written into his contract that he only has to do a handful of these appearances each year).

Let's face it, Palin simply will not launch a campaign without some family member to use as a shield. That alone might be the determining factor that keeps her stomping around her Wasilla compound in frustration, rather than out on the campaign trail stumbling over reporter's questions and generally making an ass out of herself.

I think her ego may push her into one ofthe most embarrassing moments of her life. She will surely prove once and for all what a complete moron she is.

I'd rather be thought a fool the proven one. That may be my motto, but good ole Palin cannot stand the thought of anyone stealing her spotlight, so I really think she will run. At least long enough to appease her bots and rake in some more dough.

Her looks are rapidly fading and her mean girl antics are wearing thin among those with any sense of decency. Time to suck up as much of her leech bots money before the people who know her come out of the woodworks telling their Palin stories.

I can't wait. I'm so ready to see her proven the nasty, greedy, idiot that she is!!!!!

    Run Sarah run.

  4. Well, just because Piper registered for school, does not mean she will attend, however, after seeing Piper's attitude on the first bus tour, oops I mean vacation, I somehow think she would go along on a campaign trip only if forced to do so and it might not be a pretty scene. Then Willow should be in school and I don't think Sarah has as much leverage over her as she does (or did) Bristol. Bristol ... maybe? Adding the celebrity touch? Track is out of course, you are right, unless by some stretch of the imagination, he is her card up the sleeve and all of a sudden becomes the ex-serviceman hero stand by my Mom, apple pie and country kind of guy. Todd ... you're right - maybe a few times (as few as possible) and he was seen leaving early from the family "vacation." Mom and Dad were looking pretty bored and stiff on that vacation. They really looked like "I don't want to be here." And, we have only seen Palin appear anywhere without family a very few times and on those times, Stapletongue or RAM were in tow. This could be it - no shield, no campaign.

  5. I thought of Animal House scene "ROAD TRIP"!!! When everything has gone to hell, do a road trip. This is exactly where her sophomoric mind is. How can a woman who hires a chartered bus with a driver have the cajones to ask the State of Alaska to pay for a lawsuit?

Sarah Palin's puppet masters clearly believe their little wind-up politician is adequately re-programmed to avoid dangerous topics like Paul Revere's ride. They are willing to blow their cash on another road trip for Palin.

Sarah Palin is perfectly capable of appearing well-trained and in control long enough to earn a few hours off leash. And her handlers may very well believe that the right combination of legal medications will counter-act the obvious problem of no family members available to feed Palin's monstrous ego.

It's a battle of drugs vs sociopath. Palin likes her drugs so she might behave moderately well for a while.

If Bristol is filming her reality show, then the Palin name is going to be on TV while Sarah is running for president.....if Sarah is really running for president. For that matter, one of the selling points of having Bristol in a reality show would be to have her famous mother pop in for a visit. That would be a No No for a presidential candidate.

I can't think of another presidential candidate that was allowed to have a family member publicizing their family name on TV while the person was running for candidate.

So, Sarah must just be showing up, dogging the footsteps of real candidates, because she needs the attention, and probably the donations.

I agree with you that Sarah would run just to show everyone that they're wrong. She can run without a staff, with few donations, with few fans, and without the help of her family props. Yes, she is that stubborn and selfish. Piper had a terrible time on that family vacation campaign bus tour. Todd and Willow left. I don't think that Trig will be a good option. He'll require baby sitters and tenders. Frankly, Trig belongs in therapy and a school for special needs kids, as suggested by Virginia Voter. None of this will make any sense to Sarah. She just needs that applause and the money more.

There’s this great scene in the camp classic “Valley of the Dolls.” Neely O’Hara, a cantankerous Broadway and Hollywood star whose past antics led to fame that sucks the oxygen out of a room, arrives uninvited at a party being thrown for legendary Broadway star Helen Lawson. “Who invited her,” asks a gentleman next to Lawson. “Nobody,” says another as the crowd applauds O’Hara’s unexpected arrival. Take a look. While the entire clip is a hoot, you only need to watch the first minute.

This scene came to mind when I read that Sarah Palin was taking her tour bus out of mothballs to roll up on the Iowa State Fair in Des Moines this week, much to the consternation of the Republican candidates for president hoping to make a splash in Saturday’s straw poll, no doubt. Think of the four in that “Valley of the Dolls” scene as Michele Bachmann, Mitt Romney, Tim Pawlenty and Ron Paul.

I've wondered about schooling for Trig with his disability. Where I went to school there was one classroom that was in our middle school that had all of the special kids from K-12 and that was their classroom for the time that they went to school. Most of them only went from 1st grade to at most 8th grade, none of them went to high school. I'm just wondering what is available to special kids these days and if it is just one big classroom with one teacher for their entire experience. Do these kids attend high school? If you have a special kid that is not expected to have a long life do you even have to send them to school or can you just keep them home? Not sure about these things but as I said above there was a classroom where a very patient teacher gave her all to these kids.

If she's "putting forth efforts" - or as most other people would say, TRYING, to "revitalize the fundamental restoration" - that would mean that some kind of restoration has already begun. Restoring what? and by whom, pray tell? Someone other than her? And it needs revitalization because it's no longer vital?

And she will TRY to REVITALIZE the FUNDAMENTAL RESTORATION by HIGHLIGHTING nice things about our nation - or as others might put it, by having photo ops.

Current educational practice is to "mainstream" special needs kids as much as possible. They can and will need to take classes that deal with therapy and life skills designed for them, but they are also allowed in the normal classes as much as possible so that their socialization is more like that of normal kids.

Unlike the warehousing of special needs kids in my elementary school days, mainstreaming seems to work for the most part. Normal kids are actually quite protective and caring about the special needs kids and are quick to both advocate for them and protect them, and that is wonderful to see.

From what I've read here and elsewhere, if Trig is not receiving his DS therapies and care at all, that is gross negligence on the part of the parents. Knowing what we know of those two, there's no doubt in my mind of that. CPS can even be informed of possible neglect in this case, and it would be quite interesting to see what would happen.

Trig should have been in a 0 to three therapy program and then should have graduated on to other therapies. In gfact a DS child like Trig has many opportunies in todays world. Unfortunately without them his odds of living alone or even living with assistance are dclining every day. He will most likely will be institutionalized as an adult, he will not have received enough therapies (large muscle, small muscle, speech, sign, etc) and will become a frustrated young man unable to live in even a group home setting---he will not be independent enough and it is sad. He was written off the moment the Palins adopted him and IMO they should be brought up on neglect charges. I have no doubt if they were poor or were in a more progressive state that Trig would be removed from their home.

Sarah Palin=Fried Butter on a Stick

Sarah makes her own metaphors, which saves me some work.

But this one? Honestly, at first I thought it was a parody.

Someone sent me a link to a post, allegedly by Sarah Palin, that said, in regard to her upcoming visit to the Iowa State Fair:

'I’m excited to try some of that famous fried butter-on-a-stick, fried cheesecake-on-a-stick, fried twinkies, etc. I’ll enjoy them in honor of those who’d rather make us just “eat our peas”!'

Surely, this wasn’t real. Not even Sarah herself would say she was eager to eat fried butter on a stick.

But the line about “eat our peas” made me wonder. Yes, Sarah is so resentful of Michelle Obama that she could take a cheap shot at the First Lady’s concern with improving the dietary habits of Americans in order to rein in our current epidemic of obesity.

So I went to SarahPAC and saw it was true–unless somebody hacked their account.

Then I started reading about the Iowa State Fair and saw that, yes, vendors really are offering fried butter on a stick.

And then I realized that Sarah has created her own perfect metaphor for herself.

She IS fried butter on a stick.

She’s a grotesque novelty appropriate for a brief run on a carnival midway.

She offers only empty calories, no nutritional value.

She melts away to nothing when exposed to heat and light, leaving us looking for the nearest trash can, into which we can deposit the stick.

But Sarah’s carnival came and went in 2008.

Now she’s like a 1920′s vaudeville act in the age of talking pictures.

Her every attempt to recapture center stage becomes an exercise in self-humiliation.

Guess Sarah found some cash left over from her paltry "bequeaths" to her chosen few, so time for another Blunderbus Tour. How much will it cost this time?

Airfare and hotels for the entire entourage -- no excuses, command performance children -- , bus driver, shrink wrap for the "new" bus, payment to organizers, SUVs because the bus can't maneuver tight places, floats or whatever the Queen prefers to ride this time, paying all family members for their "professional advice" and of course, mad money for Todd.

She's counting on stealing media attention from the candidates in Iowa. It'd be great if no one in the media showed up.

You can bet Perry will stay away from Palin. He knows how that worked out in 2008. Perry can't run the risk of her stance on Muslims or Hispanics' Tx has a strong Muslim and Hispanic population and Perry can't afford to alienate them with her hateful rhetoric that she'd spew in a national election plus he doesn't believe in the AZ law for Tx in regards to immigration. Perry is also friendly to big oil and Palin isn't. I think she'll be pushing herself on him to campaign but he won't want it. It will be like Whack-A-Mole getting rid of her, though.

"Trig belongs in therapy and a school for special needs kids, as suggested by Virginia Voter"

Well, most of us with special needs kids keep them home, sending them to public schools. Federal law requires states to provide schooling for special needs kids from age 5-21; most states start at birth or at least at age 3, I am not sure about Alaska. MOST parents with a kid with Downs or other issues spend a huge part of their lives working with therapists & their child. My main memories from my son's first 3 years are a blur of therapists & doctors. They'd show us exercises or educational games to do with MJ (my son); we worked many, many hours with him every day. I can only hope someone is doing this for Trig. It would make such a difference to his life. My son is 28 now; I know people who have special needs children who are in their 50's, who had no schooling or training; their lives can be very sad; they have potential to have some kind of independence, but early work is crucial. Thinking of what Trig's life is probably like is depressing to me.

cckids, you are a responsible parent. And even though you had a child that was born with special needs, you did what responsible parents do and that is to identify what needs to be done and mobilize a plan to help your child, no matter how difficult or costly, you do it. Paylin is lazy and that has been passed down to her spawn. Look at Bristol for example; she has made hundreds of thousands of dollars off her celebrity, but she remains a marginally educated high school graduate with a child who appears to be propped in front of the tv when he's not being used in her television performances. She could have used that money to enroll in a good college and have plenty of money for expenses for the 4 years required to get her degree. These are simple-minded people who have been taught that the easy way out is the best way out. Sarah told the world what she thought of her child Trig, when she wrote the birth announcement from God (you know, before she was even showing and before he was born right?) and that is she views him as the "ever dependent little brother" and because she sees little potential for him, he's probably not getting the therapies he needs.

10:37...I did not say Trig belongs in a separate special needs school, please rerad my post. Brendan explained it best.

My neice, who just turned three, is not special needs, but she attends a preschool, which has a program for all types of special needs kids, including those with DS. It is a day preschool, not an institution, and according to my sister, it is a fabulous program. I would think with all Sarahs money, and no college tuition to pay for the older kids, the Palins could afford the very best for Trig.

A friend of mine just completes her bachelors degree in Ed, concentrating in special education. The university here in VA has a program for special needs students. They live in dorms, attend classes, and experience university life, albeit with a lot of help and supervision. She did a semester working with these kids, and they were all at various levels of abilities...some were DS, some autistic, etc.

My point is, in this day and age it is absolutely criminal not to provide Trig with every available advantage. There are so many opportunities for him today than there were even 15 years ago, and the fact that the Palins treat him like a prop just saddens me to no end.

Sarah Palin suspended the first leg of her bus tour because she said,"Snort, even governors have to serve jury duty."

Now she's going to Iowa this weekend, because that's were the lights, cameras, and boys are.

    How pathetic.

Sarah's just been relegated to a The Rent Is Too Damn High quality candidate. Not only did he lose the New York Gubernatorial contest, he just lost his apartment.

  65. Those copies of The Constitution she's handing out look just like the one that the ACLU sent me.

Do you know the number one reason the bots remain convinced this con artist is going to run for president? Because they can't see how she would string them along if she wasn't going to. They just don't get it: they are dealing with a CON ARTIST. Stringing people along is the con artist's core strategy since the beginning of time.

"As a star, Palin is terrific. She’s a natural talent."

Have to disagree here. She is no STAR, and she sure isn't a natural talent unless you're talking stirring up bigotry and hate.

Colbert's line is true genius. Bat signal indeed. Hee.
But part of me is actually afraid that Palin has become completely irrelevant. She can do her best to go after that spotlight, but it's occupied by other people with star power among her nutcase universe: Bachmann, Perry, even Gingrich. Why this worries me is two reasons:
First, the sense that many of us have had that Palin's skeletons would finally be exposed, by Republican insiders, if she made a serious bid for Presidency, and
Second, The new stars are every bit as scary as Palin, maybe even more so since they're less incompetent and less obviously insane, and thus potentially more marketable.

Anon: "People in Tx don't like Palin's dirty, trash mouth."

What, you didn't hear? According to c4p, Texans are organizing a trip to see Palin's tractor field speech! They will be traveling in a massive caravan of...wait for it..."one or two passenger vans."

Capehart also correctly nailed the Fox/Palin ratings dynamic of where she makes a pretend stab at entering the race every now and then, duly covered by Fox each time. And lo and behold, we now hear that Sean Hannity will be interviewing Palin at the Iowa State Fair.

more likely, it was because Willow was in labor and she needed to find parents for that baby pronto.

I have family in Texas and they do not like Rick Perry either. They can not believe he keeps getting elected. As big of a crook as Palin.

    Virginia Voter,
How neat to hear of the program at UV for college-age special needs students. My daughter's best friend is a boy with Aspergers and has enough issues that he is no longer in a mainstream class (at third grade). It's encouraging to hear there are progressive programs to encourage people with disabilities to their full potential. I, too, shutter at the thought of poor Trig without his hearing aids, his glasses or any therapeutic services to nurture him and help him develop his potential. There was an anon poster on this site a few months ago who said that is the case--that Sarah removed him from the care of his doctor after he asked too many questions about his care and progress. Poor frickin kids. Free Trig! and Free Piper!

    I've said before:

Presidential candidates have to disclose their personal finances. It's the law. She would never DO that.

Sarah Palin is NOT going to run for President. Period.

“The heartland is perfect territory for more of the One Nation Tour as we put forth efforts to revitalize the fundamental restoration of America by highlighting our nation’s heart, history, and founding principles,” Palin wrote.

Wow, that's actually rather profound, in a similar way to when Jebediah Obadiah Zachariah Jedediah Springfield famously declared "A noble spirit embiggens the smallest man".

While I havent been much of screechy wretch fan in the past - hell, I havent said or written her name in over a year - even a jaded cynic like me can get misty eyed at the sheer poetic beauty of putting "forth efforts to revitalize the fundamental restoration of America by highlighting our nation’s heart, blah, blah, blah..."

Wow! It makes you wanna know what ELSE she has to say, doesnt it?

That dimwit may never become president but I wouldnt rule her out as a future poet laureate (or maybe international laughingstock) of the United States of America.
