Top Ten Things that Rick Perry does NOT want you to know about him.

Courtesy of Think Progress:

(1) PERRY ALLOWED THE EXECUTION OF A LIKELY INNOCENT MAN, THEN IMPEDED AN INVESTIGATION INTO THE MATTER

(2) PERRY WANTS TO REPEAL THE 16th AND 17th AMENDMENTS, ENDING DIRECT ELECTION OF U.S. SENATORS AND THE FEDERAL INCOME TAX

(3) PERRY PROPOSED LETTING STATES DROP OUT OF SOCIAL SECURITY AND MEDICAID

(4) TEXAS IS THE COUNTRY’S BIGGEST POLLUTER, BUT PERRY SUED THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT FOR DISAPPROVING OF THE STATE’S AIR QUALITY STANDARDS

(5) PERRY DESIGNATED AS “EMERGENCY LEGISLATION” A BILL REQUIRING ALL WOMEN SEEKING ABORTIONS TO HAVE SONOGRAMS FIRST

(6) PERRY GUTTED CHILDCARE SERVICES EVEN AS TEXAS CHILDHOOD POVERTY HIT 25 PERCENT

(7) PERRY WAS A STRONG SUPPORTER OF TEXAS’S ANTI-SODOMY LAWS

(8) PERRY IS A STIMULUS HYPOCRITE WHO LOUDLY CRITICIZED FEDERAL RECOVERY MONEY BUT USED IT TO BALANCE HIS STATE’S BUDGET

(9) PERRY SAID THAT TEXAS MIGHT HAVE TO SECEDE FROM THE UNITED STATES

(10) DESPITE HAVING THE WORST UNINSURED RATE IN THE COUNTRY, PERRY CLAIMS THAT TEXAS HAS “THE BEST HEALTH CARE IN THE COUNTRY”

I think I would like to add an eleventh one to this list:

(11) PERRY STOLE MONEY SET ASIDE TO HELP THE POOR AND ELDERLY PAY THEIR UTILITY BILLS DURING THE CURRENT HEATWAVE, TO HELP BALANCE THE STATE BUDGET.

I said earlier that Rick Perry is the one GOP candidate that worries me the most, the more I learn the stronger that feeling has grown.

    Number 11
Rick Perry refused to participate in debates for the governors election against Bill White. He never showed up for any scheduled debates.

I think Rick Perry is as thin-skinned as Sarah Palin(TM). Have been following him for years, sort of the way some people follow car wreck photo galleries. One of the best writing on him is on the MargaretandHelen blog, especially the feisty "72 Virgins Changed the Channel," in which Margaret (who writes to Helen) uses her Texasisms against Perry. Purt-good!

The writer of this blog is excellent -- word on word, sentence on sentence, feisty thought to total concept. Even if you disagree with her, the writing is worth the visit.

Wait for a debate. When this idiocy gets out there, even the GOP can't support him. You cannot run for President while demonizing the very country you say you can lead. Let alone demonizing public education, the poor, and women. People do eventually pay attention to your real record.

No doubt, he is the lowest of the low. Anything that can be offensive about a wingnut is part of his persona: ignorant, intolerant, racist, insincere, untruthful, boastful and just plain slimy. If I were a Republican, I'd be doing all I could to block his path to the nomination. But I am a proud Democrat and plan to act positively- to re-elect our President.

Palin, Bachmann and Perry are the same but all of the bad press for Perry will benefit Palin the most.

Perry's wrongs will stand out much more than Palin's or Bachman's because he has a longer record but that will probably be overlooked. Palin will probably come out smelling like a rose in comparison. I'm sorry to say it or think it, but I bet Palin is thrilled with the shredding of Perry as she will see that "open door." It's playing right into her hand. Michele Malkin and Jedediah Bila(Palin worshipper) are going after Perry. I also bet Palin coaxed that along and loves someone being her attack dog.

It's unfortunate Perry has evolved into a teabagger to be made fun of. He used to be moderate. But whatever, Palin benefits. Didn't she do what she's doing with the AK
Governor's race? Demonize and then jump in the race late?

I actually think by 2012 the Republic party will basically be destroyed and Palin will have been a big player in that.

You can add a 12: Malia has a post up today about Perry's abuse of power when he made an executive order mandating girls going into 6th grade would all be vaccinated with Gardasil to prevent sexually transmitted HPV.

I'm still in shock that Bill White didn't win the election for governor. He had everything going for him...and somehow, bam! Perry wins....

Perry's never lost*** an election...The odds are against him to win either the nomination, and if he wins that, then he'll spectacularly lose the general election..

***as in he's had Karl Rove's help through just about every step..AKA cheating to win...

Perry doesn't give a good damn about those 10 things. He is unencumbered by conscience. That's what makes him hard to beat. Any means to any end so long as it serves his business overlords. In 2004, his campaign was funded by insurance companies; now Texans have the highest rates in the country. In 2007, he repaid the loyalty of a crony then in the employ of Merk by ordering that all sixth grade girls be vaccinated for HPV at $120 a pop. Only since he announced his presidential campaign has he walked back that decision. He's a scoundrel.

  16. Perry's hypocrisy will soon catch up with him (the primaries don't even begin until four months from now).

It's appalling that the MSM allow him to strut about, cooing over how much he loves his country, when only a couple of years ago he suggested that Texas had the option to secede from the very country he now tries to convincingly claim to love (unlike the "You'll have to ask him" President).

Time magazine's Swampland blog has an article today on how Perry wowed Congress in cornering federal funds for Texas in the 2000s.
    http://swampland.time.com/2011/08/17/rick-perry-aggressively-pursued-federal-aid-he-now-decries/
He got $1.5 billion in a $14 billion federal energy bill to grease the wheels of Enron fatcats. Sure, the oil industry really needs more pork from the federal government.

Next year should be interesting, with desperate GOP candidates trying to out-pretzel each other on their hypocrisies. Might be enough to confuse even the most dyed-in-the-wool Tea Partier.

@4:55 - Palin is not running. No worries.

In terms of Perry, he's already imploding. He made HUGE gaffes in 3 days. The man is not too bright. And the Bush family hates him. Did you see how fast Carl Rove came after him? Perry was in it for a minute & already Rove was sent out to trash talk against Perry!

  22. Regarding the #1 item on your list. If anyone has a chance, read this article from the New Yorker: Trial by Fire It's a very long piece, but after reading it you'll be shocked by what happened to this man. He was innocent, put to death, and yes, Perry didn't stop it and yes, he impeded the investigation into what happened.

This act alone should be one that every media outlet needs to get a hold of and pelt Perry with question after question after question. But they won't. The 'cone of silence' will happen on this issue as well as it has with Babygate.

You have to remember - After the 2008 election, Rove and Gingrich were quick to trash talk Palin when she started her Rant & Racist Tour. She's still out there.

Add that Gingrich then flipped -- from trashing to praising her.

5:25....I have heard that his friend owns the company that makes the vaccine. So it's doubly hypocritical.

  25. Anonymous7:10 AM

The vaccine will prevent the 70% of cervical cancers that are caused by HPV. He may have supported it out of cronyism but, like the proverbial stoped clock, he was right on this occation. And his supporters will not have any of that.

I think it's an either/or situation for the GOP. Nominate a Tea Partier or face destruction. If Romney defeats the TPers to secure the nomination, can anyone doubt that the same people who were willing to destroy the country's economy will hesitate to destroy the Republican Party by running their own candidate? IMO this is Palin's one hope to run for President. She alone will be willing to run against the GOP, and most likely would relish the chance to play the victim of BOTH parties.

@6:30 - Palin is not running. She has no staff, no $ to run on. The est. GOP will bring her down in a second; in fact, they already did. Look what Meghan McCain wrote about her today in The Daily Beast. And that's little young Meghan McCain.

In terms of Perry, he is a real candidate, and has not quit his elected job. Rove will work directly, on behalf of the Bushes, to bring him down. Watch and see.

  29. Anonymous7:45 AM

We should be worried about him. He is a piece of shit, but we CANNOT dismiss or underestimate him. People say that he has never faced a high level of scrutiny in previous campaigns in Texas, but that is not really true. Texans have been made aware of quite a few of his many, MANY skeletons and shitty governmental maneuvers. THEY ELECTED HIM ANYWAY! That is why the Democratic Party in Texas had that shiny website ready to roll out (meetrickperry.com). This stuff is common knowledge here, but Texas is crawling with willfully ignorant conservatives who are tricked into believing that God wants them to vote for some nasty, ignorant douchebag with nice hair.

Anon 4:02. I remember becoming alarmed when I heard about some voting machines in Texas being destroyed in a fire right before the 2010 elections. Fire origin unknown. I couldn't believe the coincidence and wouldn't put anything past the GOP. Think Ohio. I'm really skeptical of ours in SC where they have been known to flip votes yet there appears to be no effort to research and eliminate such behavior.

  33. Gryph, since Perry's signature issue is "job creation", you might be interested in the real facts. Texas is actually DEAD LAST in net change in jobs vs. net change in labor force. I.e., Sure there are new jobs in Texas, but there are a hell of a lot more new workers than new jobs.

I remember when GW refused to debate with John Kerry. Just as that should have been a red flag about GW, Perry's refusal to debate is only one of the many problems anyone in his/her right mind should have with him. I firmly believe that he is indulging in seditious remarks to deflect from the fact that his record as governor is atrocious. That atrocious record is probably one of the reasons he doesn't want to debate. He is just another ignorant, backward dolt who is a male version of Palin and Bachmann.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Anonymous10:13 AM

He required the vaccine because he got a $5k kickback from the company that makes it. I can't call it a good thing because of his failure to support any OTHER kind of health care (not counting the forced-rape sonograms!)

  40. I'm posting the following comment on behalf of my sister, a 30-year Houston resident. She says:

    ---

You forgot one...The thing that he pissed me off the most with was when he tried to mandate that every female child receive a Gardasil HPV vaccine. Talk about government being all up in your business...for a guy that doesn't like big government telling you what to do he sure tried to shove that vaccine on every Texan, whether they liked it or not. Oh wait...thats right Gardasil's manufacturer, Merck, lobbied (paid off) state government to require schoolchildren to be vaccinated with the newly approved treatment."
