Jon Stewart on Sarah Palin: "You are either running for President of the United States or you are a crazy person."

 (Video courtesy of Mediaite.)

First Nicolle Wallace labels Palin "Cuckoo for CoCoa Puffs" and now Stewart just calls her "a crazy person."

Thanks for finally joining the "No Shit Sherlock" party. What took you all so long?

Geez HOW long have I have been telling people that she's certifiable? Three years now?

    Canada AM: Joe McGinniss

The author of 'The Rogue' explains how the Palin family made accusations about him peering into their home upon moving next door. He also describes how nervous his sources were about revealing their names, fearing the Palins would go after them.

    http://watch.ctv.ca/news/top-picks/the-rogue/#clip540891

The author reveals some of the juicy details of the book and says many have told him Sarah Palin is a foul mouthed, unmaternal woman. He explains how her private life becoming public knowledge is important, as she uses the persona of 'mama grizzly' as the centerpiece of her political career.

Actually, there is a third alternative: She's neither running for president, nor crazy, but a lying, grifting, unprincipled sleaze.

My question for the FEC......if she's making speeches that include what she would do as president, doesn't that mean that she is running for president? What does it take for the FEC to say, okay Palin IS running better watch what she does with the PAC money? sheez....

Again, classic trait of the psychopath: if you can't actually accomplish something, diminish what that accomplishment would have been. In this case, Sarah Palin knows she couldn't win the presidency and she knows she couldn't perform in the job. So: trash the job itself.

She did the same thing in her quitting speech.

It's becoming so obvious. Sarah knows she can't win the election if she throws her hat in the ring. And her emotional state, her ego would not allow her to suffer another defeat.

Defeat is a word with her that is not an option. Yet, she can't ADMIT to anyone that she can be defeated. In her mind, admitting to a weakness is a terrible bruising to her ego.

So she'd rather string people along, manipulating their thinking, making them believe she'd rather not take on the mantle of POTUS, but be a selfless servant running her own show, roguish, her own way. This means to her, that she doesn't have to shower when anyone tells her, doesn't have to sleep and get up early when they tell her, doesn't have to work regular hours when they tell her. She can live a carefree life, doing things when she feels like it, and her admirers will still send their meagre savings into her PAC.

This is it, people. Instead of admitting defeat that she CAN'T win against President Obama, she pretends that the POTUS is beneath her. It shackles and restrains her, keeping her and all presidents before her in boxes. That is beneath little Sarah.

Basically, that GVS interview showed her spoiled little girl side where she hates the other kid who stole her toy and now she says she doesn't want it anymore. She's telling the other kids that that bad old (POTUS) toy didn't mean much to her anyway. (pout, pout)

6:07 "she's a fraud" Yes, she is. Sadly the McCain camp KNEW it early on, and covered it up. McCain is a foul-mouthed volatile tempered, gambling addict. Wallace and Schmidt were willing to put two unstable people in the two top offices in the country. They should be charged with treason. Instead they go on interviews and laugh about it. Write books and make money. It is a disgrace.

    The Washington Post:

A “title”? Palin professes to love the Constitution; perhaps she should read through Article II, which explains that the presidency isn’t a title. It’s an actual job, with responsibilities and obligations and opportunities. Of course, it’s nothing new; her resignation speech when she quit being governor was heavy on title-talk, too.

  28. I haven't read all the comments on this post, but I posted a comment to your post last night on the Wallace/Schmidt interview with Rachel. I got angry reading your post and Sarah Jones' at Politicusa. Three authors researched and wrote serious books exposing Palin's shortcomings and evidence of someone who may truly be mentally ill, and the books don't get the real attention they deserve; but Nicole writes a fictitious almost funny parody of someone who fits the description of Palin and calls her "cuckoo for cocoa puffs" and everybody pays attention. This is not funny. This is serious and we have been trying to call attention to it for over 3 years. You have led that charge! The fact that Wallace and Schmidt went along with it for as long as they did is sickening. I just don't think I would have ... not at that level, not with what was at stake. We are not talking about the President of the PTA; we are talking about President and Vice-President of the United States. And as Sarah Jones points out, isn't the first criteria for selecting your running mate, for selecting a VP candidate, to be that they could and would serve as President in the event something happened to the President? Why did they not remove her from the ticket? There are ways to do that and "save face" if that is so important. Now, we need the whole truth exposed and we need to see McCain publically address the campaign of 2008 and what he did.

Wow, did anybody catch Stewart's segment on Palin last night? Night and day. The crowd actually CHEERED Stewart saying that Palin would be commander-in-chief so she could make whatever decisions she wanted and wouldn't be shackled. They WANTED her to run. ON THE DAILY SHOW! What planet am I living on? That NYT article must have worked wonders, or we are really, really good.

Oh, and Stewart's conclusion based on all the bus tours, speeches, etc.? Palin is either running, or is a crazy person. And he didn't mean she was crazy.

Levi Johnston on Sarah Palin Presidential Run: Yikes!

On the prospect of a Palin presidency: "'President Palin' is a phrase that scares me. She is apparently only 5 percent behind Obama right now and that's frightening me. I'm figuring I might have to move to Canada if she wins."

On his baby mama's book: "I didn't read Bristol's book (Not Afraid of Life: My Journey So Far). I heard a lot of things out of it, as far as "I'm a gnat" and how I stole her virginity. Her book is just flat out lying, it's disgusting."

"To date someone for several years, have a child, almost get married twice, you don't come out and say your virginity was stolen. Let's be real, lady!"

On why his book stands out: "Mine and Joe McGinniss' book (The Rogue: Searching for the Real Sarah Palin) are 100 percent different. He's written it from interviewing other people. Mine is full of 100 percent truth, I lived there."

"I've known them for a long, long time and everything in there's a fact."

On the craziest offer he's received: "Half a million dollars to masturbate on camera and do a porno with the Sarah Palin look-alike from Nailin' Palin."

"We didn't even think about it, it was a hang-up call. Horrible stuff. I'm just laughing about how stupid it is and that they actually think I'd consider it."

Levi Johnston 'Moving to Canada' if Sarah Palin Runs for President

...Johnston wrote that Todd and Sarah were not really affection towards their children. He also claims the Tea Party favorite owns a tanning bed and can't load a gun.

Johnston told E! News that Palin would flirt with him and had a major "crush."

"Even growing up my friends would always say that [Palin would flirt with him], it seems kind of weird. Then one of my publishers said she had a cougar crush on me!" Johnston said.

"I guess I'd say, 'Yeah, I think she did.' Now looking back and remembering what everyone said."

However, when asked if Palin did indeed have a cougar crush – Johnston said he had no evidence, but swears it to be true.

"She never touched me or anything like that!" he added. "Now it kind of weirds me out thinking about it."

Johnston's Deer in Headlights, like Joe McGinniss' tell-all-book The Rogue, shines an unflattering light on Sarah Palin's life.

Since the publication of McGinniss' book, rumors regarding a possible split between Sarah and Todd have flared. According to the National Enquirer, Todd Palin was "fed up" and considering a divorce.

Hmmm, I think we have a Palin Panty Sniffer here in this reviewer from Alaska. He absolutely dismisses Joe's book, and not in a nice way.

    ---------

    Phone Number: 907-523-2250
    Email: Patrick.forgey@juneauempire.com

Joe McGinniss hopes “The Rogue: Searching for the Real Sarah Palin” will undermine her credibility and prevent her from ever attaining a position of national importance.

How he goes about trying to take her down certainly undermines someone’s credibility, but McGinniss’ journalistic choices are likely to make readers as suspect of his motives as he is of Palin’s.

...McGinniss’ first foray into Palin’s Alaska was to write a piece for the now-defunct Portfolio magazine in which he attacked her Alaska Gasline Inducement Act. He returns to the topic in “The Rogue.”

McGinniss argues Palin and Alaska erred when it sought an independent natural gas pipeline to connect the North Slope with Lower 48 markets, and said Alaska should instead rely on the state’s big oil companies do it.

In Portfolio, McGinniss mocked Alaska’s independent effort, noting key player Exxon Mobil Corp. was sitting on the sidelines, and said ConocoPhillips and BP’s competing Denali pipeline was the way to go.

Now, two years later, with Denali abandoned and Exxon Mobil joining the AGIA process, McGinniss held firm on his belief anything Palin supports must be wrong.

...Failing to prove what he needed to prove, McGinniss bolsters the book with a healthy number of titillating allegations of infidelity, drug use and even a faked pregnancy.

Most of the “The Rogue’s” supposed revelations are too thinly sourced for actual journalists to check out, and are unlikely to sway the views of fans of the Mama Grizzly, in the unlikely event they pick up the book.

And for those who already don’t like Caribou Barbie, they may find McGinniss’ attacks on her enjoyable, but they’ll learn little they can count on.

    The Documentary Palin Will Hate

...Nothing in Broomfield's documentary compares to the tabloid-ready allegations levied against Palin in Joe McGinniss's recent biography, The Rogue: Searching for the Real Sarah Palin. McGinniss writes of Palin blowing lines of cocaine off a 55-gallon oil drum and sleeping with then-Michigan college basketball star Glen Rice while serving as a local news sportscaster.

“I kind of like Sarah Palin for doing cocaine and sleeping with Glen Rice. It makes her kind of human and wonderful,” said Broomfield with a chuckle. “Of course I heard stories about her and Todd taking drugs and a lot of stories about her temper as a mother, but I didn't really feel like that was part of my remit. Who hasn't done drugs at some point or another? If you're going to bring somebody down, I would bring somebody down for other reasons.”

As for the rumors in McGinniss's book that Trig Palin—Palin's youngest child, who has Down syndrome—isn't her son, Broomfield claims he investigated the matter in “great detail” and conducted several interviews with Shailey Tripp, a woman who claimed she massaged Palin months before she gave birth and found no evidence she was pregnant. However, Broomfield said he was unable to verify any of Tripp's claims, and all the witnesses she produced who she claimed observed Palin go in for the massage denied the accusation.

While it's looking incredibly unlikely that Palin will jump into the 2012 race, Broomfield said he still believes she's a “kingmaker” within the Tea Party, and recent polls still have her in the mix behind GOP presidential hopefuls Rick Perry and Mitt Romney. Despite her reality TV-diminished clout, Broomfield is more fearful of what Palin—and the Tea Party—represent in American politics, and what that means for this country's future.

“The Rick Perrys and the Sarah Palins have created this romantic fiction of a piece of American history that never existed that people have bought into,” said a fired-up Broomfield. “Until the liberals come up with their own equivalent, and come up with their own heroes, and actually have the balls to stand up and argue their beliefs in a consistent way in terms of a larger political framework, the Perrys, Bachmanns, and Palins are going to be very powerful, and I think the country will go into a very dark period—both within the country, in terms of the dwindling middle class, and the world stage.”

The Beast has got YouBetcha covered!

    -----------

    The Documentary Palin Will Hate

The Frommer’s travel guidebook on Alaska describes the city of Wasilla as “the worst kind of suburban sprawl of highway-fronting shopping malls and gravel lots.” With a population of about 8,000, it’s also filled with an abundance of churches and, oddly enough, has the distinction of being the state meth capital despite its citywide ban on strip clubs. But in Nick Broomfield’s new documentary, Sarah Palin: You Betcha!, the city more closely resembles Twin Peaks, with its most popular resident, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, serving the role of the malefic Killer BOB, having brainwashed her former constituents into believing she’s someone worthy of their undying admiration.

Things began innocently enough. Broomfield and his co-director, Joan Churchill, moved to a house in Wasilla and were invited into the homes of many of Palin’s acquaintances and family members—including that of her parents, Chuck and Sally Heath.

“We tried incredibly hard to ingratiate ourselves to Sarah Palin and her family,” said Broomfield in an interview. “I didn’t go out there in any way whatsoever to do a hit piece on her. We were like the best-behaved Boy Scouts there could be.”

The title of the film comes from a promise the Tea Party figurehead and former vice presidential candidate made to Broomfield at a book signing when he requested an interview, but it soon became readily apparent that Palin was just leading the filmmakers on. To make matters worse, word had spread throughout the town that Broomfield was intending to make “a hit piece” on Palin, which scared many of the townspeople into silence, with one former Palin classmate worried that speaking out against Palin would ruin him financially in Wasilla. And that’s when things got strange....

Right now Sarah Palin is, for lack of a better term, the GOP's "useful idiot"--as long as she remembers her place and stays there. Steve Schmidt & Nicole Wallace are the very public warning shot across the bow if she's thinking of going all 'mavericky'. Don't think she's that willing to jeopardize her future income--may happen anyways. Sucks to be her right now.
A useful idiot?--her unelectability to the average conservative refocuses them on more viable nominees.

Sarah Palin, meanwhile, offered a real non-denial, telling Fox she couldn’t decide if the title of president was “worth it,” since she might not be able to fire off her “Maverick” views. “You’d be the (bleep)ing president!” Stewart cried. “Here’s the thing. You can have a colorful bus and drive to early primary states, or you can go around telling people what you would do if you were president. But when you put those two together, there’s really only two possibilities. You are either running for president of the United States… or you are a crazy person.”

  54. Daisydem (6:54), I don't disagree with you at all. You make very valid points, and in a perfect world, it SHOULD go that way.

    But.... :)

I spent a nunber of years in national consumer marketing. Now I do a version of advocacy at a local level.

One lesson that I've found applicable in both arenas? Breaking through to people with a message is never simple. It's never as easy as just saying it, even if they're a captive audience.

They almost always have to hear it more than once, often in different formats, from different voices. This is especially true when your message is counter to what they believe. (E.g., a sitting US governor would fake a pregnancy?!?!?!)

So while I'm furious at everything McCain, including Schmidt & Wallace, I see value in Wallace's presenting this reality from a fictional perspective. I really think it's going to get under Sarah's skin, which makes her more likely to "slip up" and reveal something. (Besides, I just take pleasure in the image of her freaking out.) And I believe Republican Wallace writing about a fictional unfit female VP has a real opportunity to open some as-yet very closed eyes & minds, and IMO, that's worth a lot.

And if this helps open those minds a wee bit, maybe they'll be able to accept other developments -- Joe & Fred's books, Broomfield's film, anything else that comes up.

(And I'll try to get the book from a library or 2nd hand shop, to avoid supporting Wallace.)

In a perfect word, Wallace and Schmidt would have done the right thing and said something during the campaign. They wanted to keep working in politics, so said nothing. They did say if it looked like McCain was going to win, they'd do something. Not good, but at least it was something. I've read the Wallace book, and found it interesting (though not a great book). I think there is some valuable anecdotal information about sarah's mental health. What I'm really more interested in is if the media is going to start questioning Sarah's mental health. Will they start an investigation into when McCain knew? How about when the RNC knew? The media had to have an inkling about all this, too. You can't tell me their weren't whispers out there. Why has she been propped up for the past 3 years? This is WAY bigger than anything Nixon ever did. Way bigger than Bill Clintons' sexual appetite. That was on the news cycle 24/7. If this is met by silence, we are seriously fucked.

Well, looks like ol' Sarah is shit outta luck on her threat to sue Joe.

Sarah Palin May Have a Hard Time Proving Defamation

...“I don’t see anything in here that suggests there was malice, nor frankly do I see anything that suggests he’s making things up. All he says is there are some sources that I went to,” Janowitz said.

    L. Lin Wood, who has represented celebrities in some of the most highly publicized defamation suits in the country, says it would be ”difficult, but not insurmountable” for Palin to prove defamation, adding that the only way to prove “malice” or “reckless disregard for the truth,” is by providing circumstantial evidence. If the email is credible it could be the evidence Palin needs for a successful case, he said. But Palin would have to prove McGinniss “ignored contradictory evidence or purposely avoided finding the truth,” which would be exceedingly difficult to prove.

“It’s a very difficult burden for a public figure, but it can be done,” Wood said. “To be successful as a practical matter you have to have a case where you can easily prove a statement is false because if you have to fight a battle, whether the statement is true or false you are usually not going to be able to meet that burden of meeting actual malice.”

Wood said finding that “serious accusation” that Palin can “easily prove is false” is the first step to a successful defamation lawsuit.

Pursuing a case like this would mean an incredible amount of publicity for Palin and potentially putting McGinniss’ sources on the witness stand, something the former Alaska governor would likely not want. Orin Snyder, a New York attorney who has also represented many famous people in high profile defamation cases says he doubts Palin truly plans to sue, saying Tiemessen’s letter “is designed as a placeholder to level the playing field on Google as opposed to a serious statement of attention to file a lawsuit.”

“The last thing that someone like Sarah Palin wants is a public lawsuit with wide ranging discovery into the claims made in the book, because what will happen is everyone named or everyone implicated will be deposed, and that’s something that very few people in the public eye want to endure,” Snyder said.

Under Alaskan law, Palin has up to two years from the date of publication to file a suit, but an attorney familiar with the case in Alaska says, “The letter clearly states this is something the attorneys are investigating. It is the start of a long process, not an event. This isn’t a watch your mailbox a complaint is coming next week letter.”

The same source says the reasons to go ahead with the threat is “frankly to preserve evidence.”

As for the rumors in McGinniss’s book that Trig Palin—Palin’s youngest child, who has Down syndrome—isn’t her son, Broomfield claims he investigated the matter in “great detail” and conducted several interviews with Shailey Tripp, a woman who claimed she massaged Palin months before she gave birth and found no evidence she was pregnant. However, Broomfield said he was unable to verify any of Tripp’s claims, and all the witnesses she produced who she claimed observed Palin go in for the massage denied the accusation.

Sarah Palin is, and always has been, a joke. Why would anyone seriously think this person could be President or anything else that required intelligence, morals and ethics. I was a resident of Alaska for almost 50 years. Halfway through her Governorship in Alaska, she ran out on Alaskans for her own personal goals. She has never had what is best for the citizens in Alaska in mind, never mind the rest of the country. I hope when she is done taking up useless space in the media, she does NOT return to Alaska, we don't want her!

Sarah Palin inspired Nicole Wallace's character "Tara," a "Cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs" Vice President -- VIDEO

Nicole Wallace, former Communications Director for President Bush and -- Is there any way to put this delicately? -- Sarah Palin's chaperone during the 2008 campaign, has written "It's Classified," a novel whose characters include "Charlotte," as President, and "Tara," as Vice President.

The book's prologue can be read here, at Simon & Schuster's website. The Daily Beast has an excerpt from Chapter Twenty-four, where "Tara" -- is it so? -- has difficulty with an interview. Or, look inside the book, at Amazon. And, last but not least, Nicolle Wallace (and Steve Schmidt) were interviewed by Rachel Maddow. On Maddow's show, Wallace says that "Tara" was inspired by Sarah Palin. Nicolle Wallace begins talking about 2:18:

...Stewart, who had a bit of fun at O'Reilly's threat to quit his show if taxes become out of control, asked O'Reilly what is behind conservatives crying "class warfare" over President Obama's deficit reduction plan.

"What is this whole business with the poor, poor rich and wealthy in this country?" Stewart asked. "So unfair to them."

There comes a point where taxation simply becomes too much, O'Reilly responded. "Are you ever gonna wise up?" he asked Stewart.

    "Teach me, professor," Stewart said.

O'Reilly used the Department of Justice allegedly purchasing $16 muffins as an example of government waste.

Does anyone remember the 1979 movie "Being There" starring Peter Sellers and Shirley McLaine? When I first realized that Palin is synonymous with the dumbing-down of America and now watching the piteous c4p Palin worshipers this movie came to mind. Here are parts of reviews (says it better than I could) that were written years ago before the world was bombarded by idiot celebritician Sarah Palin.

"The movie tells the story of a half-retarded gardener, Chance, whom one supposes is the illegitimate son of a prominent business man in Washington, D. C. This occurs in 1979, when the Carter Administration was in its last stages of faded glory. Chance, played by Peter Sellers, is left homeless when the old man dies. He then wanders the streets of the big city in search of his new life. Whatever he has learned has come from watching TV and he uses his remote control to change channels. While roaming the streets of Washington, Chance even tries his clicker in real life situations, which is very funny."

"As Chance the gardner is forced to leave the house he has lived in as a child, he is hit by a limosine transporting the wife of a dying plutocrat. Taken to the home of the plutocrat, he eventually meets the rich and powerful of the land (the president included)and is taken to be an oracle of wisdom with his simple statements about gardening and the television he has watched. It is a great satire that just keeps getting better as we rely more and more on soundbites for our information."

"For example, in a television interview about the economy, people take his comments that "there is always growth in the spring" to mean an end to a recession when he is simply talking about his garden."

"To me the movie shows the power of television and other forms of mass media in shaping the public mind. Taken to the extreme, a total idiot might be foisted off on the public to hold the highest political office if only he has the right handlers and avoids any whiff of scandal. The biting sarcasm and irony of "Being There" would not appeal to everyone's taste but most thinking adults should be captivated by the story and by Sellers' amazing performance."

"Seeing this film for the first time, 25 years on from its original release, two things really hit home. Firstly it's very good - the acting and direction are excellent, it's funny, it's a clever story, and it makes you think. All pretty good credentials for any film. Secondly - and here's where its true brilliance lies - its underlying message hasn't dated at all and, if anything, is more relevant and effective than it was when it was made.

"And the message itself? Superficially, it's an exploration of how, in a world dominated by the fleeting demands of mass media, someone with absolutely no knowledge at all can become a megastar and, once established as such, can demand respect and gain power far beyond their capabilities. And, beneath that…"

The main difference here is that Peter Sellers character is innocent while Palin knows better and consciously works at fooling the public. Rotten Tomatoes gives this a 95%. Reviews quoted were from Amazon where it's rated 4.5 stars and imbd.com 8/10. As a youngster I went to see this movie and never envisioned that this scenario might almost come true one day. We dodged the bullet. You won't regret watching this I promise!

Also of interest, though scarcely noted in reports of her appearance, was Palin's claim she was unaware of a recent fundraising letter sent out from her political action committee, SarahPAC, to its donors. The widely-reported mailer claimed Palin was "on the verge" of a decision whether or not to run for president in 2012, and implied that further donation would help her make the decision. Palin said she didn't know "what was sent out to voters" that would make them think she's about to decide.

    http://www.alaskadispatch.com/article/palin-talks-gop-primary-race-seems-cooler-2012-run

Is Sarah Palin preparing her followers for disappointment? That could be. In an appearance on Fox News Tuesday, the former Alaska governor sounded a lot like somebody who was explaining to fans why it's better that she doesn't run for president.

Asked the obvious question by Greta van Susteren -- is she in or is she out -- Ms. Palin had this to say. We'll quote the whole thing, from a Fox transcript, so you get the full idea.

"Somebody like me -- is a title and is a campaign too shackling?" said Palin. "Does that prohibit me from being out there, out of a box, not allowing handlers to shape me and to force my message to be what donors or what contributors or what political pundits want it to be? Does a title take away my freedom to call it like I see it and to affect positive change that we need in this country? That's the biggest contemplation piece in my process."

Here's what we think Palin's saying there: I can have more impact as a non-candidate. Consultants won't tell me I can't say certain things. I won't have to raise money by telling people what they want to hear. Fox News will still have to pay me when I appear on their shows.

OK, maybe that last one is going too far. But can you imagine anybody running for president after that kind of mini-speech? We can't either. Palin appears to be defining her role as a purveyor of words (and by inference ideas) -- not a potential wielder of power.

For serious candidates, the point of running for president is not to say what they want -- it's to get to sit in the chair in the Oval Office and run the executive branch.

Palin's posse may argue that this proves her pure independence. That may be. And given her past maverick tendencies it might be premature to predict her behavior.

  77. A reasonable or rational person would have responded to these issues by now rather than desperately trying to hold onto a fantasy self-created image. I wonder how long she thinks she can continue to buffalo the public by weakly saying "it's all lies and innuendo".

For the sake of what's left of her family's unity or sanity, it's time for her to announce to her donors that she is not running nor seeking further donations and then quietly retreat to the confines of her home. I don't expect her to admit that she has conned the public or to apologize for misleading so many but she owes the public a disappearing act so we can attempt to heal some of the wounds caused by her divisive, hateful and embarrassing behavior over the past three years.

I would like to feel a modicum of pity for her, much as I did when Charlie Sheen had his public meltdown, but her staunch refusal to take any responsibility for the chaos that surrounds her prevents me from feeling charitable. She has sacrificed her family and friends toward her selfish ends and now when she sees the end of the charade playing out she can't find the decency of character to release them from the curse.

I hope that there will be someone with credibility or authority to inform the So Korean officials that she is not authorized or empowered to represent or speak for the U.S. They should be informed that she represents only her own limited views as a private citizen and that she is no longer a 'politician' nor does she command any level of respect from the majority of Americans.

Sarah Won’t Sue Joe & You Can Bank On It

I have been fond of saying over the years that “discovery is a bitch,” that is that the pre-trial phase of a lawsuit in which each party can obtain evidence from the other, can be more important — and damaging — than the trial itself. Which is precisely why, to my knowledge, Sarah Palin has never made good on her threats to sue adversaries real and imagined.

Palin has most recently threatened to sue Joe McGinnissz for defamation because of The Rogue: Searching For the Real Sarah Palinz. The unflattering biography of the former vice presidential candidate, half-term governor and possible presidential candidate is long on rumor and not so long on confirmed incidents, but the likelihood of her following through on a lawsuit is zero to none.

    This is because:

    * Certain incidents, including her one-night stand and relationship with future NBA superstar Glen Rice is confirmed cold, as are other affairs for which McGinniss has multiple, if anonymous sources.

    * Chief among the rumors is that Palin is not the birth mother of Trig Palin. Under discovery, McGinniss’s lawyers would be able to subpoena Palin’s obstetrician, nurses at the hospital where Trig was allegedly born, and require DNA tests of Sarah, husband Todd and Trig.

    * Palin is nothing if about making money, and the bad publicity that would accrue the Tea Party darling could impact on her Fox News and celebrity appearances. As it is, her star is in eclipse. A recent documentary film about her bombed and while she still has a small and fervent base, she is trailing badly in presidential preference polls.

“The final work that was published contains most of the stories that Mr. McGinniss complains were nothing more than ‘tawdry gossip’ that amounted to the wishful fantasies of disturbed individuals,” Palin lawyer John Tiemessen wrote to Crown, the publisher of the book. “Since both your company, and the author, clearly knew the statements were false, admitted they had no basis in fact or reality, but decided to publish in order to harm Governor Palin’s family, you and Mr. McGinniss have defamed the Palins.”

While we’re on the subject, several critics have panned The Rogue.

I have read only excerpts and skimmed through the rest of the book, but the criticism does not stand up to scrutiny and is a part of a larger pattern: The news media’s unwillingness to give Palin the kind of scrutiny that, for example, John Edwards got over the affair and lovechild and Barack Obama got over claims that he was not an American citizen.

The news media is scared of Palin. Thank goodness McGinniss is not.

Whether Palin runs for president or not, the fact remains that she IS crazy. But her defenders are even crazier and more delusional, because they seem to turn deaf ears and blind eyes to the fact that the harshest public criticisms are lately coming from the right. They dismiss this criticism by calling the conservative critics like Dick Cheney, Karl Rove, Steve Schmidt, and Nicole Wallace "RINO's" as if labeling them this way changes the fact that they are part of the hard right. But as bad as Palin is, she is only symptomatic of what is wrong with the Republican Party of 2011.

There are several things going on at the same time:
    1. Sarah gave all of the signs that she was running. It didn't cost her any money. SarahPAC paid for the big wrapped bus and her brief history lesson disguised as a family vacation. Sarah gave a few speeches and tried to look presidential. Sarah wants to run for president. No, Sarah wants to be the president without having to do any of the hard work to get there. I think that they were stunts meant to appeal to the people behind the curtain, saying, "See, I'm still a contender."
    2. Sarah does not make her own decisions. Chuck Heath said so. Even though he is a blow hard and he brags too much, I think he was right on this one.
    3. Sarah has little chance of running a good campaign, or getting elected. The majority of Republicans don't want her to run. Anyone of power who once backed her is looking at better prospects. (No laughter please. They are quite a bunch, aren't they).
    4. Sarah really really really wants to be in the spot light, so her stunts were grandstand efforts to show the people who pull her puppet strings that she is capable of riding around in a decorated bus and fooling some of the people some of the time.
    5. Sarah is good at one thing, getting media attention. (So was Nancy Grace. It doesn't take all that much these days.) That's all that she really can sell, media attention and a small, devoted group of fans as crazy and as dangerous as she is. That's not enough to be a candidate. That just means that Michele Bachmann will have a rival for the craziest thing that was said today.
    6. Sarah still wants to be able to influence politics, title or not tile. As long as she has a facebook and a twitter account, she is still dangerous because she will do and say more and more outlandish things to get attention and try to matter.
    7. This is the first time that people have piled on: Rachel interviewing Schmidt and Wallace, Chris Matthews has been laughing at her and Jon Stewart's brilliant take down.
    8. I'm still hoping that the anonymous writer with incriminating emails from Palin will be the final nail in the coffin. We have seen enough horror movies where we think that the monster was killed off, only to have the movie end with a long shot of the coffin, some billowing clouds of smoke, we hear a creaking noise as the lid is pried open just a crack, and the dialogue is "Thank goodness, she is gone now, (ominous music)....or is she?"

AND the HITS just keep on comin'!

HOW SARAH PALIN shafted Alaska! Exclusive interview!

Alaska’s richest man is blasting Sarah Palin for failing to avert a potentially devastating environmental disaster in the state she once governed – and now he wants ENQUIRER readers’ help to get the job done!

In an exclusive interview, Bob Gillam, founder of McKinley Capital Management and a staunch environmentalist, alleged that a foreign mining venture called Pebble Mine in Alaska’s pristine Bristol Bay is believed to be threatening the habitat of the salmon-filled natural wonder.

    “Sarah double-crossed us,” he says.

“When she was governor, Sarah told me on more than one occasion her daughter Bristol was named after Bristol Bay and she would never do anything to hurt the area, especially since she had a salmon fishing permit herself,” said Gillam.

The benevolent billionaire fears the toxic waste from the site could leak into the water after one of Alaska’s regular earthquakes, killing half of the world’s wild salmon. The pink-fleshed fish is the dietary staple of the more than 15,000 aboriginal Alaskans who live around the bay.

Local tribal council member Ricky Delkittie says aboriginal children would be at greatest risk for starvation and diet-related illnesses if Bristol Bay became contaminated.

“We have good, clean water and my people have lived here for 10,000 years,” he says. “If there are diet and starvation issues, it is going to lead to thousands of children’s deaths in the future.”

Gillam, who has poured millions of dollars of his own money into saving the area, says the situation could have been avoided if former governor Sarah Palin had done the right thing.

But just before she became the Republican vice presidential candidate in 2008, Sarah voted AGAINST an initiative that would have required the Pebble Mine developers to keep the water in the area clean.

A final decision on the mine proposal will be made in the next six to 12 months, and Gillam is asking ENQUIRER readers to contact Alaska’s current governor, Sean Parnell, to ask him to campaign against it.

“I think readers should remind him that he should protect these aboriginal Alaskans,” said Gillam, “and put Americans first rather than the greedy financial interests of foreign mining companies.”

HOW YOU CAN HELP: ENQUIRER readers wishing to speak out can write the Renewable Resources Coalition at 605 West 2nd Avenue, Anchorage, AK 99501, or e-mail info@renewable resourcescoalition.org. Alaskan Governor Sean Parnell can be reached at: Governor Sean Parnell, P.O. Box 110001, Juneau, AK 99811-0001. E-mail: sean.parnell@alaska.gov.

‘The Rogue’ sells 6,000 copies in first week

Joe McGinniss’s controversial book “The Rogue: Searching for the Real Sarah Palin” sold 6,034 copies in its first six days on bookshelves, according to Nielsen Bookscan.

The book did best in the Pacific geographic area, which includes Alaska, selling more than 1,500 copies, while “The Rogue” sold fewer than 500 copies in the Northeast, which includes New York, according to the International Business Tribune. BookScan tracks sales for about 75 percent of books sold in the United States.

The book, which has been both panned by critics and seen excerpts go viral on the Internet, currently ranks 116th on Amazon’s Best Sellers, and according to IBT was the 16th best-selling new hardcover last week. It’s possible the buzz and controversy over the book’s most salacious revelations dampened enthusiasm to buy the actual book if potential customers believed they had already been exposed to the most explosive allegations in “The Rogue.”

FWIW, I would amend that to "mental illness, dysfunction, and religious fanaticism go unchecked."

Have to laugh over at Wonkette.

More Crazy Republican women. A GOP state Senator locked her husband out of the house without a coat on Dec 25 at 9:35 because she was upset having caught her husband with another woman. She called 911 and told them not to pay attention if her husband called because she has influence etc.

She rammed her husbands car in August. Also other domestic incidents.

Sounds like the GOP has a unlimited group of those crazy ladies available at all levels.

Though our Sarah remains at the top of the pile of republican female whackos.

She only throws cans at Refrigator doors.

Finally. That was great. I knew all she had to do was show up on TV and she couldn't help but make a fool of herself. Her true colors were on display in her interview with FOX.

She looked like she was having a little internal anger management struggle on Greta's show. Being held accountable doesn't sit well when it's directed at her. Her deflections aren't working any more.

The chickens have come home to roost.

But she said "throw her name in the hat". Don't you know, it's a drawing? All you have to do is put your name on a piece of paper and hope your name gets picked. That's the "unconventional" way to run for president.

  109. She's the crazy person, Jon! She's not running cause then she can't "go rogue" or be all "mavericky". What other excuses is she trying to bullshit us with? She's still talking to friends and family??? After 3 years, I would have killed somebody for still talking about the same damn thing for so long. That would have been the end of the decision making process. What friends are privy to her inner thoughts? Todd more than likely ignores everything she says other than, "here's your allowance, Todd". Willow won't talk to her unless she wants something else that can't be bought with her very own PAC debit card. What a bunch of bullshit she's spinning! The Presidency is a "title"? If she's not aware of what the Presidency really is all about and I'm positive she doesn't, we know she doesn't belong there and have known it for a long time, but it's time for her to realize it, too. Somebody smack that bitch upside the head-NOW! Her 'bots are upset due to her earlier final date of "end of September".

This woman is heading off to Korea to speak of how we can fix the world's economy. Is she self-aware? Hell, no! Or else she never would have accepted the responsibility to give such a speech as if she had the ability to do so.

Maybe they thought they got Tina Fey for comedy relief!

The reason the media doesn't want to cover Palin as a figurehead who would never have been a competent leader is that every candidate that makes it as far as she did is (like her) a figurehead for popular ideas they will never be able to implement. No story there. If anyone in the media tries to cover that truth, they will be dropped once their contract expires and disappear like Phil DOnahue.

People who aren't bought and paid for, who might actually be able to bring about positive change do not get nominated for a national position. THey rarely even make the US Senate. The only difference in candidates is that some don't seem to understand what's happening and others do. As soon as politicians start to exhibit a mind of their own or any level of competence, they disappear to pundit land or start a "foundation." They will get time on TV if they toe the line and they will not get time on TV if they continue their independent thinking. No reason to cover Palin because she's not any different.

However, Broomfield said he was unable to verify any of Tripp’s claims, and all the witnesses she produced who she claimed observed Palin go in for the massage denied the accusation.

of course they did - Todd's prostitution ring was run out of that massage parlor. They know who pays them, and it ain't Tripp.

Sarah finally admitted it, she wants the Miss Potus beauty title.

She doesn't want a job, a responsibility. She just wants the title and the crown. She is still trying for Miss Wasilla 20+years after she is too old.

The idea of her in a bathing suit suit, robe, crown and scepter at the swearing in ceremony in late January in DC.....
wait that might just be worth it if she had a decent VP.
It just might shame the Republicans into growing up.

  118. Who is this idiot apologist troll going around the blogs saying that "at least [Wallace and Schmidt] did something", that 'something' being jumping ratlike off the sinking Palin ship and cashing in, besides!?!?!

They did not "do something". They ADMITTED in "Game Change" that they would have tried to marginalize Palin as VP. BIG FUCKING DEAL… they still would have been up shit's creek if McCain had snuffed it (like Curtis Menard). Sarah would have been declared president and THEN what? they'd have gone to court to get guardianship over her like for a crazy granny???

Wallace and Schmidt are TRAITORS to the United States and by our current standard of practice should be in Guantanamo.

Fuck them, fuck them, fuck them. Now that amoral whore Wallace is going to try to make a dime off the deal along with the amoral pimp Schmidt, just like Sarah? Worse, because in theory Wallace and Schmidt are sane. Still sociopaths, but sane ones, so supposedly that's ok??

I love Jon's wit, I thought he hit the ball out of the park with his "Bride of Jesus" outfit remark, but the "Cookie Monster Pelt" just blew me away.

Some great insight in the comment thread. Yes, I loathe Wallace for doing her job with the McCain Campaign, and was upset she's getting attention (and money) now that Sarah's gulping air like a guppy out of water, after reading the comments, she's actually opening the door wider for us. Democrats and Progressives can voice the truth for three years, and not sway many in the GOP, especially conservatives.

Nichole's fictional Sarah Palin batshit crazy reality will be read by a wider audience, and will spur curiosity to these books, documentaries, and editorial comments.

Too little, imho, but it's a start. I'll wait to read her book from the library or get it from the compost bin at the dollar store.

Thanks to all who commented tonight, i came away with some new angles I hadn't through through.
