Bill Maher on how the fickle Republicans would react if Jesus Christ himself were to run for the nomination.

Okay by now I really should not have to warn anybody, but for those who are newbies let me remind you that this is Bill Maher, and his program is on HBO, so of course it will be NSFW.  It may also very well prove offensive to some. However it made me laugh my ass off, so here you go.

In satire there is a resounding truth - Jesus wouldn't get out of the Iowa Straw Poll. Too bad Christians can't see past the end of their selfish, self serving, greedy ass, racist, homophobic noses.

And Anon702, there are many of us Christians who don't fit the bill you listed. Some of us actually agree with the feed the hungry/ heal the sick stuff that Jesus said. :)

But if you mean hypocritical, fundie, Dominionist types? I agree 100%.

This poster at RedState isn't pulling any punches on this post. And YES they were a former Palin supporter so it's particularly juicy to see their assessment so well stated.

    Good on you, Erick.
kabane52 Saturday, October 1st at 4:17AM EDT (link)

(I’m posting this on multiple posts because it needs to be said)

I’m quite tired of some of the whining about these posts. Let’s be very clear. Sarah Palin has ruined her image. She ruined it. I say this as a former Palin fan. A big Palin fan. I mean, Palin for President 2012 fan. I was with the 64% of Republicans who supported her for 2012 (the first Rasmussen poll on the 2012 nomination).

But let’s go back a bit. Let’s remember what exactly happened. When McCain picked Palin, we loved her. The blogosphere loved her. Rush loved her. The base all around loved her. The convention came, and she became very popular. Many people forget this now, but there were a couple weeks when America, as a whole, loved the woman. It was just the liberals who hated her.

Then came the Couric interview. We all knew she stumbled, but she’d come back. We had faith in her, her intelligence, and her conservative values. And she did, in part, in the vice presidential debate. We were very happy about that, and we loved her.

McCain then lost the election. Speculation about Palin soared. Rasmussen conducted a poll for the 2012 Republican nomination. Palin had 64% of Republicans behind her. Let’s not forget this. She was not always on the fringe, like she is now. Conservatives across the board loved her.

Then she resigned as Alaska Governor. This is when many of us began to have our first doubts. We loved her as a person, but we weren’t quite sure that she was our candidate for 2012 anymore. A political activist, definitely. A candidate? Maybe. We hoped she’d challenge Murkowski for Senate. But nope, Palin was content writing books and starring in a reality TV show. Nothing wrong with this, except that she quit being governor of Alaska to do this.

Now, her excuse for quitting may have been valid. Maybe she was so bogged down with legal challenges that she was unable to fulfill her duty. Fine. Then she should have run for Senate against Lisa Murkowski, who is a true RINO. But nope, she left that for Joe Miller to lose. Thanks. Then she endorsed Christine “I’m not a witch” O’Donnell, who was a fringe perennial candidate and NOT an articulate leader in the conservative movement. This was the first time I thought something she did was unacceptable. She lost us that seat. Thanks, Sarah.

But I still had faith. Perhaps she could continue being politically relevant. Maybe not the presidency, but at least a star political commentator. A true conservative who represents the conservative, Tea Party movement. A leader in the movement. That was my hope.

But, as we discovered, Mrs. Palin chose to lead not the movement, but her own personality cult. She was “considering” a run. Okay, good. I hoped that if she ran, she would have solid policies to run on, and be able to mount a serious presidential campaign based on issues. She was unpopular in general, but still popular with the base. If she won the nomination, she could overcome her unpopularity. So, I still had faith.

But time kept going by. People were announcing left and right. The campaign was progressing. Palin became less and less relevant as a political figure. And she saw it. This is where she began to seriously hemorrhage support within the movement. I was one of the supporters that she lost. Instead of buiilding up leaders within the movement, she chose to tear them down. A couple of examples from recent weeks- the bogus charge that Rick Perry engaged in “crony capitalism.” and the stupid remark that Herman Cain was the “flavor of the month.” These are two recent examples, but go back, and you’ll find these starting a few months ago.

Wow! RedState has certainly taken Sarah to task, this is one post that was pretty revealing as to the final 'coming out of their delusion' state and I suspect they are not alone in their thinking, they just had the courage to voice it.

The Palin show has been tiresome for a while now. She’s supposedly the straight shooter yet she doesn’t stand by her own words.

At the end of the day, who is she? Someone who became famous because McCain was desperate. Someone who served part of one term as governor. Someone who does reality TV, supports her daughter doing reality TV, and gives a political speech every few months. Someone who frankly is not extraordinarily intelligent.

The conservative movement is about preserving a country of over 300 million people. There are plenty of conservatives out there- many of whom are far less interested in their own celebrity than in doing what’s right.

I want to chime in with how not everyone who is spiritual and attends church, has lost the true meaning of it all, despite how so many "churches" have become Republican fundraiser sites.

However, I blame all those who have not spoken up, or at least stopped attending (and more importantly, stopped giving the MONEY which is really what is expected of them)--such ex-houses of worship.

I feel sorry for Palin supporters at this point. Someone posted this on the Citizens 4 Palin site:

“I’ve been thinking about the Governor’s interview at the Iowa State fair when she first mentioned not wanting to ‘string her supporters along’ and said by the end of September would be an appropriate time frame to ‘let them move on with their lives’…I think she meant, if she wasn’t going to run she’d let us know by then (now) – but if she’s going to run, she’s NOT stringing us along at all.

since she hasn’t said ‘NO’ yet…it’s game on!”

    Really?

Herman Cain: My Flavor Is 'Black Walnut'

Herman Cain, responding to Sarah Palin calling him the “flavor of the week,” said his flavor is “black walnut.”

On the Tonight Show, Cain told Jay Leno, “I happen to believe there’s iced milk, and then there’s Haagan-Daas Black Walnut. Substance, that’s the difference. I got the substance. I’m the Black Walnut. It lasts longer than a week.”

  16. I'm gonna say it again: Churches should be required to pay income tax on their collection plates.

It's not right for 'preachers' to dictate policy from the pulpit and then hide behind a tax exemption.

I would feel differently if Americans CURRENTLY exhibited a separation between church and state ~ but, we don't...

... remember the bruhaha when America discussed John Kennedy's Catholicism? It was reported that Jackie wondered aloud what the big deal was because 'Jack' wasn't even a good practicing Catholic.

    7:59, 8:50 :

I enjoyed reading the posts you shared. However, I have zero sympathy for any of my fellow conservatives who continued to support Sarah after the ¨Game Change¨ revelations came to light. There is no excuse for such willful ignorance of reality. No excuse. The real damage to the GOP was done by Sarah´s supporters, who make all conservatives look like idiots.

I, too, was once a Sarah supporter. I have two boxes of 2012 campaign buttons. They have buttons with an American flag inside a moose silhouette standing atop ¨2012.¨ One day I will pass these out as campy gag gifts.

Die hard Palin supporters are the Christians who knock on your door and become visibly angry when you refuse to let them put their ¨real¨ Bible in your kitchen.

Never turn your back on them. They never fight fair, and cheating is the only way they can win.

Definitive Proof Sarah Palin Isn't Running For President

Last night ABC News reported that Sarah Palin is 'threatening' to sue Crown publishers for "knowingly publishing false statements" in Joe McGinnisses book The Rogue.

Their proof is reportedly an email the Palin camp has obtained in which "McGinniss writes that attorneys from Crown Publishing told him 'nothing I can cite other than my own reporting rises above the level of tawdry gossip. The proof is always just around the corner, but that is a corner nobody has been able to turn' and that McGinniss 'ran out of time' to sufficiently source the book."

It's unclear who the email is addressed to or how the Palins came by it.

But that's not what's interesting about this.

What's interesting about this is Palin, who was widely defended by the press against the unsourced quotes in McGinnissess' book, is choosing to go the relatively quiet route of a lawsuit rather than blast accusations against McGinniss all over her Facebook and reclaim the newscycle at a time when the press is struggling to fill in the gaping hole left by Rick Perry (Chris Christie is thus far not cooperating).

That would be at least 5 days worth of a newscycle. And more than enough to regenerate 'Palin for President' rumors and then send them into overdrive.

I mean, the mainstream media practically wrote her a valentine with their reaction to Rogue.

The only conclusion here is she's not interested in that 'presidential' news cycle being revived (maybe she's seen the latest poll numbers).

As it is Palin is filing a lawsuit. Or threatening to...she hasn't actually done so yet. And otherwise -- notwithstanding Todd's statement a few weeks back -- she' been totally silent on the book. Which is very strange. When Palin is silent it usually means she has no idea what to do (or she's in the process of making another blood libel video).

Or maybe she's over at Joe McGinnisses's Rogue blog ghost-writing.

    Heal the sick, for free?

The new GOP Mantra (only they don't get it.)

The sick are parasites on society. In a certain state it is indecent to go on living. To continue vegetating in cowardly dependence on physicians and machinations once the meaning of life, the right to life, has been lost ought to occasion a deep contempt within society.

The delusion is setting new standards at C4P:

"She wants to be the last one in for strategic reasons...also to blunt the establishment GOP Smart Set, who have plans to block her, most recently with Christie.

It's too bad she has to keep us in the dark along with her political adversaries, but those are the breaks. I wish some on our side had the mental capacity to see and understand what she is facing, and the reasons for her staying quiet.

Here is the bottom line, if she weren't running, she would have told us...the rest is designed to throw others off her trail, but we should stay resolved.

It is so obvious to me, I just wish others would "get it." It 's not about you dude. Man up and quit whining about it...maybe catch a clue while you're at it. This ain't bean ball..this is hardball.

There will be plenty of time for kicking butt once she announces...she's playing to win, not to assuage the impatient wishes of some supporters. I would have had her in last spring, or after Huckabee dropped out, or before Perry jumped in, on a million other times I felt just like you ...I want her in NOW. But I also can see the wisdom of her strategy, and now that she has embarked on it, it doesn't make sense to abandon it.

She has a ready made campaign (O4P) and donor support lined up that can be ready to go on a day's notice, so I don't expect her to announce until the very very last minute of the last possible hour...once all the establishment GOP has completely moved on from even considering she may run...that is how she can defeat them."

"All anyone that really wants to know if Sarah Heath Palin is running for president of the United States of AMERICA is to go back and look at every speech she has made since Wisconsin's magnificent "in the blizzard" speech.

The woman I see in all those speeches obviously is running for POTUS. If that's not Sarah Palin, somebody, please, tell me who she is. I want that woman to be restoring our country ."

"Sarah knows the once silent majority ( tea party ) cards are in her hand...that would be America... She holds America in her hands..impossible to beat..millions and millions of us out here will vote for her, even if she just waits until the last day. The only day we care about is Nov 6th 2012.That's when we put our cards down.... "

but a few are waking up, albeit painfully:

    "My farewell:

I've had fun here and I wish you all the best of luck in the future. But I must say farewell now as this is a pro-Palin site and I am no longer pro-Palin. I don't know who I'll end up supporting (I'll probably sit it out), but after what's transpired in the past week, I'm now quite certain it won't be SP (or any of the current crop of candidates, for that matter).

I'm really depressed about our prospects of beating Obama when our current set of announced wannabes includes: 1) Michele Bachmann, who unintentionally beclowns herself every time she opens her mouth, 2) Flip-Floppity ('nuff said), 3) A corrupt Texas good-ol'-boy, and, 4) a man who's never held elected office and couldn't even win a primary in his own state, and our unannounced candidates: 1) An obese loudmouth who acts like a mob enforcer from "The Sopranos", and, 2) a woman who can't make a decision by a deadline that she herself set (if she thinks the decision to run or not is tough, she's not qualified to be President) and then blames the media for her inability to meet her own deadline.

But whatever the case is, I won't be commenting here anymore as I have better things to do than obsess over the intentions of a person so indecisive as to disqualify herself from consideration for higher office.

    Goodnight and best regards"

  33. Hysterical. Thanks for posting, Gryph.

When Palin was first introduced to the general public in 2008, I thought she looked like what Britney Spears would at Palin's age. (As a reminder, Britney dominated tabloid news during 2008 because of her bizarre behavior.)

Palin has peaked, just like Britney. She had the audacity to believe that quitting her elected job and defying Roger Ailes would have no adverse consequences. Welcome to the real world, Palin.

The GOP need to wake up to Palin's legacy and not cower before their candidates without the qualifications to seek the Presidency, e.g., Christie (less than 2 years in elected office), Bachmann (congressional rep with no record of accomplishment), Santorum (Google him), etc.

    Not holding my breath, though.

Would someone please tell me what the phrase "With an Alaskan Heart" means?

Do you have some kind of special organ up there that is different than what we have down here? Since Sarah was not born up there, does that mean a persons' heart somehow undergoes some magically transformation from a, say, Colorado heart into an Alaskan heart? How long after you live there does this happen? Can a medical person listen to a heart and tell what state that person lives in?

And I wish the Christians in general would just get over themselves, puleeeeeese. Don't stand by and allow someone like Sarah Palin not only stand under your tent, but speak out against her, and anyone like her that grifts off your beliefs. Where is the outrage from the Priests, Ministers, Rabbis, Preechers and congregants?

Crickets chirping, because they're all pushing one issue and hoping a rabid pro- life candidate gets in the White House.

And as a former believer, the comment from the person demeaning me for my non belief and non contribution to a Church that I once belonged to is, for lack of a better word, absurd.
