David Letterman confronts Herman Cain on sexual harrassment allegations.

Letterman really goes after him here, and does not let him bullshit his way out of answering.

Cain's response is far from satisfying, and he puts himself in a real corner by claiming that NONE of the allegations are true. Of course we already know that they are, so now he is caught in yet another lie.

And I have to say that considering Letterman's own difficulties in this area, he may be just about the perfect person to confront Cain on these scandals.

Did you notice how Herb said that no settlements were paid to any of the women? He claimed that these were "severance packages" and had nothing to do with the allegations.

Then how come they had to sign nondisclosure agreements in that forbid them - even today - from speaking about the allegations?

    Severance my ass.

We just witnessed Cain digging his own grave.

    Herb Cain't be president.

Let's get Sarah Palin to go on the Letterman show.

Letterman was credible to highlight his own difficulties as he pretty much robbed the Right (i.e., Faux News) of a talking point, and left Cain without any by way of his (Cain's) insistence that the accusations against him are trumped up.

You KNOW they are, yet you say to give Sandusky (sp) a fair trial??????

    Dude, you sound mental.

Why did ALL the accusers some from Chicago? Why did that one chick know Axelrod personally?

If I were you and I had blog credibility problems you have, I would not write crap like that.

The difference between Letterman's affairs and Cain's are that Letterman has no aspirations to hold the highest office of the land. Both involved women who were in their employ, whom they held power over, and both are equally reprehensible in their behavior.
At least Letteman came clean about his affairs and saved his marriage.

Cain is an absolute jerk for putting his wife in the limelight to blindly defend him, when everyone knows he HAD to be culpable, four women don't conspire and have similar stories.

David did a fine job of smacking this ego centric, ignorant buffoon in his place.

Why can't the MSM do the same?

  6. Mr Smarmy thought if he talked fast enough or tried to change the subject when he was pressed for an answer he could outwit, outsmart and outlast Dave.

BTW, there is no match-up in their respective 'sex' scandals. Dave was a single man when he was criticized and vilified for dating members of his staff. Said employees entered into these relationships consensually. Getting your honey where you get your money may not be the best idea but it doesn't quite rise to the level of sexual harrassment.

I love how Cain now uses the 'it was a joke' line whenever he paints himself into an embarrassing corner. He goes to the trouble of getting an audience with Kissinger to ask him if he would serve as his Sec of State. Of course Henry is not a total fool so he let Cain down gently. Now when asked about making such a presumptious Joe Miller like move, you guessed it --- 'it was just a joke'. Cain IS the joke and sadly, he's the only one who doesn't get it.

I am incensed by the way Herman Cain is handling this situation.Lot of women(me included) have faced similar situations. I believe we have to speak out!
I don't think there is anything to laugh about. These are serious allegations but because it is about women being harassed by Cain,he thinks be demeaning and disrespecting them,it is ok.
It seems like having 2 payouts to women in the past by the American Resturant Association would make it a sobering conversation between Letterman and Cain..
His warning for to his victims that might want to talk is disgusting.
And what about his Princess Nancy Pelosi remark?
He will never win and hopefully we will never hae to see his face after the primaries.
So Republican fathers think their daughters should be torn apart slandered if they are harassed and speak up?

With your writing skills or lack of it is difficult to understand what you are attempting to say, but two of Herb Cain's victims were in DC and another is unknown. Only one was from Chicago.

Why do you comment about something when you are ignorant and a fool.

Look what happens when someone asks real questions live and the candidate can't take the mic off and run away.

Cain thought he'd be BSing with Dave and getting a lot of free publicity. Cain probably remembers what Letterman did to John McCain for lying about his no show. When the grilling begins Mr. U Bekki Bekki Stan Stan Stan is caught standing on his dick and can't figure out what to do. Trapped.

Now Herbs moment of failure stands with McCains. There is nearly a year for Letterman to make it a hat trick.

  13. Herm "Pimp Daddy" Cain just "stepped in it"!

No that fool did not say that those women got a "severance packages"...I hope those women release the "settlement agreements" next week so Pimp can say it was JOKE! What a fucking idiot...Dave looked like he was so sick of listening to his bullshit....at one point I thought Dave was scream out....BULLSHIT every time Pimp said 9 9 9!

Well, in Letterman's case it seemed to be a mutual thing. Not cool as he is the boss and he is married, of course, but he owned up to that.

Cain keeps using the phrase "no settlements" to cover up the idea that these women filed legal complaints and got money as compensation - as if using another word for it changes what happened.

@ 7:45, you are here again, like clockwork. Go away. You don't even sound coherent.

Herman Cain's problems aren't going anywhere, regardless of your tantruming.

The objects of Dave's dalliances all (who have come forward) stated that they liked and even adored him. They never had to be bought off nor did any attempt to bring law suits against him.

The man who tried to blackmail Dave was the boyfriend of one of Dave's exes....who was jealous because he felt she was still in love with Dave.

Cain, you have no fellowship with Letterman.

Funny Ed Muskie cried and it was the end of Ed Muskie. Something about his wife.

Cain cries (thinking about his wife holding the bible when he is elected POTUS) and he is merely emotional, not portrayed as weak.

What a crazy double standard the Republicans are upholding.

The Republican party are hypocrits in everything and their candidates are god awful.

Dude, you are an idiot. The NRA verified that, yes, there were two settlements. They were not "severance" packages. So, yes, we KNOW that the NRA settled with two women who made sexual harassment claims against Cain.

And now we know that Cain, for some stupid reason, chose to blatantly lie about it on national television, demonstrating yet again his contempt for the American people's intelligence.

And dude, what difference does it make that they are from Chicago? Are you really suggesting that in the mid-90s, Axelrod, knowing that years down the road he would be working on the re-election campaign of a politician from Chicago and that one of the opponents would be a pizza company executive, singled out two women, enticed them into making claims against said pizza magnate, so that years later the claims would be in place to attack Cain?

If I were you and had credibility (and reasoning) problems like that, I wouldn't write such crap for all the world to see.

By the way, are you one person repeatedly yapping this immensely stupid talking point, or are there a bunch of you all drooling over the same chain email?

Goodness, you people are morons. Here, I'll toss you a treat. Axelrod, boogy boogy boogy man, Axelrod, mysterious man of all-knowing, cape-shrouded evil. Boogy boogy boogy.

    Cretins. All of you.

I liked the fact that Letterman continued the questioning and therefore one of his other guests will be invited back at a later date. Shows you who runs that show and he wasn't giving Cain a pass -- at all!!! Excellent!!

These serious, direct questions I suspect will appear in ads against Cain!!

I was hesitant to watch this when I saw Herb was on for virtually the entire show. But Letterman handled him perfectly. Herb is so stupid he thought Letterman was just joking with him, and Letterman got a number of great zingers in. Letterman was also relentless. Most "journalists" could take some pointers from Dave. Yes, David Gregory, I mean YOU.

I liked Letterman's manner of questioning..admitted he had sexual problems in the past too. Truthful, where Cain wasn't.

I just wish the media would be direct and relentless in their questioning of Cain...he would be finished by now!

    Yea, President Obama!!!!

'Cause sex sells TV programs! Letterman could care less that a profoundly stupid woman might have been VEEP to an aged President like McCain.

There's no virtue in Letterman's handling of Herman Cain. Letterman is just an over-priced salesman hawking his wares.

I really do think Cain might be as disturbed as Sarah Palin. Totally narcissistic. Thinks he can game the system and just keep on going forward, ignoring everyones' concerns.

As in, "I want what I want and no one is going to stop me from going after it".

(Thinking about his wife holding a Bible when he is sworn in? He doesn't have a chance to be on that ticket! No way is the GOP THAT stupid. [I know, I know...] These rumors are going to follow him from now until whenever he drops out of the race, but it's clear he is in denial. Crazy denial, if you ask me.)

Letterman's problems weren't sexual harassment but a threat of blackmail based on his relationship with an intern. Cain sexually harassed women.

Letterman did a better interview of Cain than the fawning mainstream media has done. Not one debate questioner asked Cain hard hitting questions like Letterman did.

In return, Cain's responses were jokes. He was playing to the audience, trying to get a laugh, as in Uzbeki-beki-beki-stan-stan or claiming that Cuban was a language, ha ha. The problem is that Cain is supposed to be running for president, not auditioning for his own late night show.

Rachel Maddow has pointed out that Cain is an art project. He is a joke. He cannot answer substantive questions. He thinks that the Taliban is in Libya, that is, when he learned where Libya was and what's been going on there.

Cain saw how a totally unqualified candidate like Palin turned her failed candidacy into a multi-million dollar business. Right now, Cain gets offers of $60,000. to $75,000. per speech. He must have his eye on Palin-sized-payoffs and speeches, another book and make a TV show. (He used to have a radio show).

I think that we should view Cain's candidacy for exactly what it is, a joke. The fact that he is polling so well is an insult to the Republican Party. They are hypocrites, preaching family values while failing to ask Cain to reveal what's behind those confidentiality agreements that his accusers had to sign. The GOP's continuing support of Cain makes them look foolish. I hope he stays in the race, diverting attention and money away from any serious candidates.

You do realize that Letterman cannot force people to be on his show, right?

There was no way Palin was going to step out of her safe little cocoon and appear on a show like Letterman's (nor would the McCain campaign allow her to, once it became clear that she was an idiot).

Cain, on the other hand, thinks he is truly hot, smoking, King Turd of Shit Mountain. And he doesn't have a well-organized top of the ticket campaign to keep him restrained.

    Anon @ 12:42,

"Why didn't someone like Letterman take on Sarah Palin to expose her stupidity?"

Have you been in a coma for the last three years? Few people mocked Palin as much as Letterman. AND, she was never on his show. How's he going to grill her if she's not on his show? By mocking her mercilessly WHICH IS PRECISELY WHAT HE DID!

Letterman questioned Cain more forcefully that ANYBODY in the press. There sure as hell WAS "virtue in Letterman's handling of Herman Cain."

You don't know what the fuck you are talking about.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Letterman brought up his own history with a sex scandal just to disarm Cain because their so-called scandals are not comparable.

Letterman was not accused of sexual harassment, and he wasn't cheating on his wife.

When he was single, Letterman had affairs with women who worked for his show. They were mutual-consent relationships with adult women. His last affair with an employee was with the woman he's lived with for many years, with whom he has a child, and to whom he is married.

A man jealous of Letterman's relationship with a past lover threatened to expose Letterman's history of sleeping with women who worked for his show and was attempting extortion, so Letterman went straight to the authorities and had the guy arrested, and he told the public about it. Except for the attempted extortion, it wasn't even really news of any interest.
