The 2011 White House Christmas card features a content looking First Pup Bo Obama sitting by a roaring fireplace, flanked by Christmas presents and festive Christmasy ribbons and pine wreaths and bulbs. If you listen hard, you can almost hear sleigh bells.
It's all pretty non-controversial. Boring, even. Unless, of course, you're Fox News.
This is the coded hate that spewed from Sarah Palin on Fox News:
Former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin told Fox News & Commentary that she found the card to be a bit unusual.
“It’s odd,” she said, wondering why the president’s Christmas card highlights his dog instead of traditions like “family, faith and freedom.”
“Even stranger than that was his first year in office when the Christmas ornaments included Chairman Mao,” Palin said. “People had to ask that it be removed because it was offensive.”
President Obama’s Christmas Cards have been the subject of controversy in the past. His 2009 greeting card made no reference to Christmas, drawing the ire of Republican Congressman Henry Brown.
“I believe that sending a Christmas card without referencing a holiday and its purpose limits the Christmas celebration in favor of a more ‘politically correct’ holiday,” the South Carolina congressman told Fox News Radio in 2009.
Former President Bush did not mention Merry Christmas in his cards, but had a history of including Bible passages on the White House Christmas Cards.
For his final Christmas in office, the president sent a greeting card that included a verse from the Gospel of Matthew.
“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven,” the card read.
Palin said the majority of Americans can appreciate the more traditional, “American foundational values illustrated and displayed on Christmas cards and on a Christmas tree.”
As for the Obama card, she replied, “It’s just a different way of thinking coming out of the White House.”
"Different way of thinking" of course, as you all know, is code for an anti-Christian and anti-American "way of thinking." Essentially a reminder that Obama is alien, and different, and not "one of us."
So much for that Christian love and acceptance that is supposed to be so prevalent during this time of the year.
So one has to wonder how Fox News and Sarah Palin would judge THIS card, from a former President?
Clearly THIS President was a closeted anti-Christmas, Socialist, Communist, Fascist, America hater!

I think the presence of the poinsetta, native to Mexico and first used there as a Christmas symbol is a code being sent to the Mexicans that the White House continues to welcome illegal immigration. Lord knows what the symbolism of the dog might mean but I'm sure someone can come up with the real meaning instead of just a dog laying by the fireplace

Someone set the fire. Someone decorated the fire place. Someone collected the books. Someone cares for the dog.
The reason Palin and her ilk don’t get it, is that the card requires a level of abstract thinking, they are incapable of. They do not see the very traditional values expressed in this card, as I expressed above. They don’t see that the card is done in a traditional American style. They don’t see that the scene itself could be any room from the beginning of the Republic to today. It is timeless.

I recall a Palin Christmas picture. I don't know if this was their card or not, but the family was coming down the stairs with Christmas stockings hanging over the banister with their names on them. I believe this was taken in Sept (?) It did not show Faith, Love or Freedom. But believe it showed an unwed pregnant daughter. Did the citizens of Alaska raise a fit about this? Most of our Christmas greetings are a form of a letter telling of their past year with picture(s) showing what they did. Has this woman never received Christmas cards to know they come in many shapes, forms and wishing you a Merry Christmas. Some have Bible verses or a picture of the Nativity, a shiny star over Bethlehem, some sheep and a cow and shepherd boy, but most are pretty Christmas scenes, funny, jolly Santa's but I have never gotten one about my freedoms!

Christmas was not celebrated by the Northerners - it was considered pagan and not fitting for the pious. There was too much drinking and merrymaking involved. Thanksgiving was considered a semi-religious holiday instead.

There is obviously family in this scene, just not visible. Somebody wrapped the presents. They are stacked with care and I sense the anticipation of giving and receiving gifts of love. Someone set the fire. Someone decorated the fire place. Someone collected the books. Someone cares for the dog.

When I contemplated the painting on the W.H. Christmas card with Bo on it, I imagined that maybe the family was out Christmas Caroling or perhaps having Christmas dinner with guests and that later when the family would snuggle in front of the fireplace with Mom and the family pet and listen to Dad read them a Christmas story before bedtime. It's a wonderful scene?
What does evil jealous Sarah imagine of this Christmas Libel? Well, she reminds me of a person I met once who just got out of the mental hospital and winded up knocking on our door. How? He was following signs, symbols, letters and numbers that he saw everywhere whether they were on a street sign, wall or scrap of paper. We had to call the police who unfortunately had to let him loose again since someone got rid of all the government hospitals for the insane. No family, no home, no money but he did have some knives on him that they took away while he was in custody. I'm sure he found more. Never knew what happened to him in the end as he drifted on to another town/city.

It is against the teachings of Islam for a Moslem to own a dog. Dogs are considered to be unclean, and Moslems are discouraged from even touching them. No Moslem would allow a dog to live inside their house, let alone use the dog in a Christmas card (two violations in one). Any person familiar with Islamic teachings would know that the entire theme of the Obamas' Christmas this year (Bo) is on its face proof that President Obama is not a Moslem. Look it up.

Then she will mysteriously graduate "with her peers at Wasilla High School." I can already read the People magazine article now. Track, Bristol and now Willow will be doing this exact thing. Leave school and then come back at the last second to graduate. Ethics and the value of education are two things Palins just cannot believe in.

ReplyDeleteI'm much less interested in how people's Christmas cards look than in how they behave the rest of the year. On that scale, Obama scores a lot higher on the Christian scale than Palin does.
Has anybody else noted how much time the far right spends on the minutiae and how little time they spend actually finding constructive solutions to the major challenges we face? For example, does anybody with a life really care what the President's Christmas card looks like? What ever happened to the economy, failing infrastructure, and the national debt? Those are things I worry about. Oh - and since Sarah Palin is so concerned with job creation, just how many jobs has she created with her millions? Zero? I'm not the least impressed with her entrepreneurial skills, and she's the last one I'd take advice from regarding mine.

Wait, what? Aren't the evergreens on the mantle and the poinsettia on the table symbols of Christmas? I just gave a poinsettia to an office I frequent as a Christmas gift, so they could decorate with it, for the season. I thought it was Christmassy. I have evergreen wreathes with red bows on my doors, I always thought they were Christmas decorations, I must, because I bring them out year after year, as a symbol of my Christmas spirit and celebration of the season. I don't put up a tree, I have cats and a dog, and it is just not possible. I didn't know I was a Communist because I have no tree. This year, my cards had berry wreaths on them, some years they've had birds, or rocking horses...Oh, noes, I may as well move to Russia. I'm sure I'd fit right in with my godless Christmas decorations.

Melissa Harris Perry, sitting in for Lawrence, displayed Christmas cards from Reagan and George HW Bush and there was no indication on them of any holiday decorations at all - just snow at the White House. All beautiful cards, just like Obama's.
