It looks like the GOP clown car might be shy a few clowns when it rolls into Virginia. You Democrats should love this!

Bachmann, Huntsman, Santorum fail to make Virginia ballot

That’s not even the worst part. The worst part is that Perry and Gingrich, either one of whom could still become the Great Grassroots Hope against Romney, might not have qualified either. You need 10,000 signatures to make the ballot but 15,000 are recommended since a bunch are bound to be thrown out as false or duplicative as the petitions are scrutinized. You also need at least 600 signatures from each of Virginia’s 11 congressional districts. Romney submitted 16,026 and Ron Paul submitted 14,361. Perry’s total: 11,911. Gingrich’s: 11,050. If they end up getting bounced, the Republican primary ballot for one of America’s key swing states will consist exclusively of … Mitt Romney and Ron Paul.

Seriously, is this the BEST the GOP can do?

Barack Obama for President in 2012. Because really, who else is there?

ho ho ho - haha!! Have you seen these eejits that want to impeach Obama? For PRO-ABORTION support to Kenya. I finally checked out one of their sites - it's equal parts hilarious and very sad. These are people we share the country with. Ugh.

It's like none of them are really trying because they know that Barack Obama is virtually umbeatable in November.

They're just going through the motions.

They'll be doing the same in 2016 when NY Governor Andrew Cuomo runs for President.

Oh poop! I got to vote for John McCain in the 2000 primary as a protest against Dumbya Bush and I was thrilled since it had been a closed primary up until then.
This year I was planning on casting my vote for Sanrectum just to keep Mittens from sweeping the primary.
The repubs hate when Dems vote in their primaries, but since they have no problem stealing elections all the time, it's the very least I can do.

Just read this morning Perry didn't make it.

How long before they all mess up and a state has no choices.

Now that's the small goverment they have been talking about. Save on primary money too.

What this tells you is that only Mitt and Ron Paul actually have enough money and campaign infrastructure for a national campaign. If the old rule of he who has the most money wins, Mitt will be the nominee.

Here in VA we have open primaries, and don't register by party affiliation, so the rest of these losers didn't even make an effort. I think Hunstman is running for VP at this point.

What I can't get over is the Gingrich LIVES HERE. It takes a special kind of loser to not even be able to compete in his home state.

Disclousure: I voted for Dr. Ron Paul against Dubya Bush. Yes, he is a racist and a bit of an old crank, but he is a principled man who has patiently and tenaciously built a campaign organization and staff that have done their homework.

I would be so proud of America if Dr. Paul won the nomination. Could he win against Obama? No; - but there would be an elevated national discussion on REAL issues, not the idiot mudslinging we have seen from the other candidates.

Ron Paul is the strong medicine America needs to recover from the reality-show circus Sarah Palin, Heman Cain, Donald Trump and Newt Gringrich have brought to the national stage.

If the nomination goes to Mitt Romney, watch out. If he wins it will because the R's will try to pull another "Diebold Voting Magic Trick" and I put nothing past those bastards.

Ron Paul is a racist, that's not okay as a President. Who cares about his other attributes. No racist in the White House, thank you very much.

(Beldar Dice Conehead will be appearing this New Years Eve at "Yuck Fu", Peoria, Illinois' premier comedy club and faux-Cantonese eatery since 1984. Closed for health code violations in 1991. Knock on the back door marked "Danger! This Property Condemned. No Trespassing!" and someone will let you in. Bring a flashlight, a blanket and something to eat. And also something to drink. No cover charge! But also no lights, no heat, no food and no booze. Just awkward laughter and an unsettling suspicion that you shouldn't have come... see you there!)

Rocky won't be as popular as Ralph Nader. Also, you need to consider - anybody can say they support/believe/advocate for anything -- tell me how they can bring about change? Nobody is running to be a dictator

Fox News Panel Blasts Newt Gingrich For Not Making It On Virginia’s Primary Ballot

On Fox News earlier, two political analysts criticized the Gingrich campaign for not being organized enough, and called into question how he did not amass enough signatures in his home state.

Angela McGlowan said the failure calls into question Gingrich’s organizational skills. Bashing the process can only do so much when you’re a popular candidate with widespread support who couldn’t get 10,000 signatures in Virginia. What hurts Gingrich’s campaign the most in this process is that he was actually polling ahead of all the other candidates and in a statistical dead heat with Mitt Romney. As McGlowan put it, if Gingrich couldn’t get it together enough to abide by the rules in Virginia, he might not have the discipline necessary to be the next President of the United States.

When you’re running to be the next President of the United States, it’s generally a good idea to make sure people are able to vote for you. But in a surprise twist in this already twisted-up campaign, both Newt Gingrich and Rick Perry will not be on the ballot when Virginia Republican voters go to cast their vote for their party’s nominee, meaning the primary in that state will boil down to a contest between Mitt Romney and Ron Paul.

  17. So what?

This is just for the nomination.

The RNC will nominate whoever they want, whether they made the Virginia ballot or not.

Mostly it means those candidates don't care enough about Virginia to make the effort.

Too bad they ALL couldn't fail to make the ballot.

I pity John McCain. The Arizona senator is a pathetic man. One of the best things to happen to America is that the McCain-Palin nightmare never had a chance to realize itself in the executive office. McCain would not on any level have been able to handle a presidential schedule and would have had to hand off to Sarah Palin, an astonishingly stupid person—far too often. This would have caused a major threat to National Security.

John McCain, however, is not alone in his pining for the good old days from last week when there were still some American soldiers in Iraq. Now the soldiers are back in America and instead of trying to find ways to help these amazing men and women find jobs and other opportunities now that they have returned, all he can do is whine like a bitch that his fucked up war is over.

The toxic effects of right-wing extremism in Washington were vividly on display during the payroll-tax fiasco — even to the right wing. On the campaign trail, though, those lessons are being ignored. The leading Republican presidential candidates are overtly competing for the title of Most Conservative, distorting their own records and advocating increasingly radical positions.

I don't like any of them, and while it's a good thing that Perry and Gingrich fell short, we still have to contend with Willard the Rat and Ron the Anachronist. I despise Willard for his dishonesy and readiness to switch his position on an issue any day to be in alignment with what he thinks will win him the nomination. As for Ron, he's too old at 77, and the few good ideas he has are outnumbered by his many bad ones. In addition, his lame excuses about the offensive newsletters that he signed and profit from don't pass the smell test.

And what is lovely is that one of the reasons they didn't get enough qualifying signatures is the application of some of the new voter suppression rules.

Apparently the biggest issue was people moving and not updating their addresses with the election board.

It will be interesting to see the break down. Va outside of the DC areas and its bedroom communities is very republican.

Of course those bedroom communities lost a lot of Republicans in 2009 and the administration changed and government department heads changed parties and office help.

There are tons of Asians and Hispanics living in the area I live in west of Fairfax. Wonder if those folks are elegible to register. How many would have a SS number of government id?

No, Virgina, no Santa Clause for you!

I'm shocked, SHOCKED, I tell you! Newt and Calista "helmet hair" list their residence in Virginia, so they can't vote for themselves, why should anyone else bother?

Yeah, Gryph, they're making this a Cake Walk for Obama, along with Weepy Mr Cheeto's, the house leader who can't lead.. I have no problem with that whatsoever.

    @4:44 p.m.:

You just confirmed what I have been saying in reference to how these voter suppression laws would affect Republicans as well as Democrats. They have been introduced mainly by GOP governors and GOP legislators, in order to game the system in their favor, but they are so sweeping and far-reaching that they were bound to also affect Republicans although they were designed to mainly affect Democrats. It serves these clowns right that it happened to cause them to fall short in Virginia. With the cast of clowns that are running for the GOP nomination, it would be another case of Karma if something like this happens to them again.

You Virginians are so lucky! :^(

But, I am loving the fact that the members of "the Party of Personal Responsibility" can't accept any blame for forgetting to sign up for the primary ballot. Instead, once again, it's somebody else's fault!

Newt Gingrich went so far as to compare this to the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, which means he'll probably "write" another dreary alternate-history novel, this time about the Virginia primary.

What IS it about these Republicans who dodged military service that they have to load their speeches with military analogies, similees and language? Gee, I guess I answereed my own question at the start!
