New grass roots organization, Tea Party for Obama. Wait, what?

"Even I don't know what to make of this."
I know what you are thinking, "No fucking way!"

But you know what? There might indeed be a fucking way.

Check out their About Us page:

Our Mission
We strive to bring the truth to light. We have no hidden agenda or single cause to endorse. Ours is but a simple task…Freedom to live our lives without governement interferance, lower spending, fair taxes and a health care system that reduces spending and creates a health and happy nation.

Our Values
We value the truth without bias or opinion. The truth is what sets us apart and here is where you will find it.

Our Beliefs
We manned up and realised that the problem is that the recession began during the previous administration. And while it certainly worsened for the first year of Obama’s term, there are now signs that the economy is slowly improving. Unemployment is reducing and we are more secure not that bin Laden is no longer walking the earth.

We’re tired of getting criticised for not having a plan to back up our boisterous protests, we’re tired of being called racists, we’re tired of being called nutjobs.

So we looked at the situation with clear heads and realised that barring any true, qualified leader on the right, Obama is the only choice for 2012.

Oh THAT is going to make some heads explode in the GOP!

And if that was not convincing enough take a look at one of their posts:

The Greatest Presidents in the Last 50 Years

John F. Kennedy
• Stared the Soviets in the face and did not blink.
• Cleared the path for the Civil Rights movement.
• Pioneered man’s exploration of space by uniting the country under a common goal, to put a man on the moon.

Ronald Reagan
• Stared the Soviets in the face and did not blink.
• Increased wealth of the country 500%
• Reduced Government size
• Decreased spending

William J. Clinton
• Brought incredible prosperity to the country
• Created a budget surplus
• Reduced government size
• Reduced taxes and put the country back to work

Barack H. Obama
• Reduced government size
• Largest tax cut ever
• Provided health care for everyone
• Protected medicare
• Saved country from the worst recession ever
• Saved the US auto industry
• Took out bin Laden

In my opinion just the graphic alone will probably prove fatal to at least a dozen Teabaggers. And I have to imagine that the REAL Teabaggers would take serious offense at their characterization of Reagan, who seems to be "damned with faint praise" here.

Well I am not absolutely positive these folks are on the up an up, but I have to say that I absolutely love the fact that this website exists.

If they turn out to be the real deal, I may have to stop referring to the Tea Party as "Teabaggers."

Not yet though.

You can visit the website yourself by clicking here.

  1. Sounds too rational to be any members of the "old" tea party.

  2. Reagan may have decreased spending on social services (closing mental health centers for one thing), but he increased the defense budget in a major way. Overall, Reagan increased the budget deficit big time. Whether or not this group is legit or not, it still makes me smile.

O/T Young Turks' Cenk Uygur's guest stated that: Prior to marrying Rick Santorum, his now wife was a live-in girlfriend of an Abortion Doctor 23 years older than she. Also, that same Doctor had delivered Mrs. Santorum at birth. FAMILY VALUES?

Andrew Sullivan has a piece on the Beast about the brilliance of President Obama's long game:

The only problem I can see is what they claimed Reagan accomplished. They didn't mention anything about his deficit spending or the huge amount of spending he gave to the military. They also didn't say anything about him raising the taxes when he realized what he was doing to the national debt. They need to look at Reagan a lot closer and stop believing what the far right is trying to make us believe. Other than that, I'm glad they are finally seeing the facts but hope they realize what falsehoods FOX has been giving them for so long.

I LOVE THIS! I give enormous credit to them for taking the time to pursue the truth and to take a stand on it. I'm heartened by this tremendously and if it is for real, and I've looked pretty closely at it now, I hope they will survive the beat down that will come from the rabid Tea Party NON-GRASSROOTS crew that is headed up by Dick Army and Koch bros.

I will definitely keep an eye on this site. Thanks Jessie for posting this. I'm hoping those who Tweet and Facebook will take it viral.

Even The Fox News Poll Thinks Obama Is Going To Win Reelection

A new Fox News poll delivered some surprising news, as 52% of those surveyed believed that President Obama will win reelection in 2012.

The latest Fox News poll showed Obama leading Romney by a single point in the head to head match up (46%-45%), but a deeper look inside the numbers revealed why the hypothetical head to heads don’t come close to telling the real story.

Obama’s approval rating has gained a net five points, while Romney’s has gained a net three points. Mitt Romney currently has a 25 point national lead over his nearest competitor for the Republican nomination, but there are red flags everywhere concerning the GOP’s 2012 prognosis if the current GOP frontrunner is their nominee.

Even though there have been dozens of GOP debates and the race for the nomination is in full swing, voter enthusiasm for the 2012 election is going down. The number of respondents who were extremely interested fell from 33%-32%. The number of respondents who described themselves as very interested increased from 32%-34%, and those who consider themselves somewhat interested experienced the biggest jump from 24%-28%.

Most tellingly when Romney supporters were asked if their vote was a vote for Romney or a vote against Obama, only 33% said they were voting for Romney. Fifty eight percent of Romney supporters considered their vote a vote against Obama. In contrast, 74% percent of Obama supporters said that their vote was a vote for Obama. Only 21% of Obama supporters considered their vote a vote against Romney.

...The big shock is that by a margin of 52%-42% respondents in the Fox News poll believed that President Obama is going to win a second term. Obama has gained a net 20 points since the last time this question was asked. In September, only 40% of those surveyed thought President Obama was going to win in 2012. Today, 52% think Obama is going to win. In September, thought Obama was not going to in 2012. Today, only 42% believe that Obama is going to lose.

The lack of enthusiasm for Mitt Romney is certainly part of the reason why voters are starting to believe that Obama is going to win reelection, along with an improving economy also makes an Obama win appear more likely.

Republicans are going to vote for Romney because they hate Obama. Democrats tried this same strategy in 2004, and it failed miserably. Without a nominee who can energize the electorate in a positive way, the challenging party is almost certain to face defeat. If Mitt Romney can’t get Republicans and Independents excited about voting for him, he isn’t going to beat Obama.

"Freedom to live our lives without governement interferance, lower spending, fair taxes and a health care system that reduces spending and creates a health and happy nation. "

If they truly believe the above, they can't honestly place Obama's name amongst their statement of purpose. He is the exact opposite of freedom FROM govt and fair taxes (he is FOR taxing 250k more).

Until people who create and believe in this group can see all that I pointed out, things will not get better.

They 'manned up' and sought the truth. Good for them. I will give credit where credit is due. Then I will wait for consistency. Bravo if they maintain the site, their support and their eventual vote for our president. Because NO MATTER WHAT your complaint about Obama, he is head and shoulders the statesman we need right now to get the job done.

I don't expect to agree with everything any president or politician does, but I do see that Obama doesn't 'shoot from the hip', but in fact is deliberate and cautious when need be and hard hitting with his 'velvet hammer' when need be. It's a great balance of choosing how to use power.

  26. Why does their manifesto read like the twelve steps of AA?

Ex-teabagger version: We manned up and realised that the problem is that the recession began during the previous administration.

AA version (steps 4 & 5): Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.

Admitted to God, to ourselves, and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.

Ex-teabagger version: We’re tired of getting criticised for not having a plan to back up our boisterous protests, we’re tired of being called racists, we’re tired of being called nutjobs.

AA version (steps 6, 7, 8, & 9): Were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character.

Humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings.

Made a list of all persons we had harmed, and became willing to make
    amends to them all.

Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.

Ex-teabagger version: So we looked at the situation with clear heads and realised that barring any true, qualified leader on the right, Obama is the only choice for 2012.

AA version (step 2): Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to
    sanity.

    ---

I do believe in recovery, but these guys are going to have to prove their intentions before I buy it.

I've got to wonder what teabaggers would spell realized "realised." Are we sure they're American?

  30. I think there were large numbers of hard working, decent moderate folk initially caught up in the early TParty movement when it was thought to be pushing for positive change in government and taxation.
As the movement was hijacked by extremist right wing propaganda and big money opportunists like the Kochs, the intelligent and sensitive among them bailed.

These are the ones leaving. The intelligent ones who observed or informed themselves about the President and discovered that he isn't a communist, socialist, dictator hell bent on destroying our Nation. These are the ones who finally figured out that the Repubs have an agenda that doesn't favor a better future for them or their families. It's one thing to opt and rally for fiscal changes, yet another to be swept into civil, social and religious wars with one's fellow citizens.

They also began to see the divisive actions of the candidates elected under the TP mantle in their name realizing that they were as self-serving and corruptible as they perceived those they hoped to replace. Seeing the GOP/TP presidential roster had to be the last straw for many.

I welcome their support. It doesn't have to be the Hatfields VS the McCoys. It truly can be the Hatfields AND the McCoys.

The real TP started out much in the same manner as OWS. It was quickly hijacked and infiltrated by the crazy ass people who love Sara Palin, then the Koch's saw an opportunity and jumped on board and the real people behind the real TP were quickly shoved aside. These people are probably the originators and they are fed up with the way the TP has gone and is being characterized. I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt or it's a great punk job that will make the "rill" TP come charging back calling them frauds. I will await their response - it should be hilarious

Well, something just isn't feeling right about that website. It certainly would be a great antidote to the Teabaggers who would like to get President Obama assina. . . ., however, since I see they are asking for donations - I recommend you make sure they are the real deal before donating hard-earned $$$ to an unvetted website - where you can't find ANY information on who is actually running this website. It could be a money grifter endeavor modeled after schemes ala Palin.

To be sure, I'm sure there are a lot of disillusioned Tea Partiers out there who have left the movement due to it being hijacked by the Koch Brothers, Wall Street, the GOP, and the Christian Extremists and perhaps some of these folks are behind this Tea Party for Obama - but, beware! Personally, I think it's prudent to wait awhile, check them out, see if they are legit.

In the meantime - any donations I make will be directly to President Obama's campaign, or the Democrats. Or to well-known politically liberal/progressive blogs that cover a lot of material, topics, and issues that educate and encourage discussion - along with some enthusiastic irreverence - like IM!

I'm pretty sure Jesse Griffen is who he says he is, is incredibly funny, yet manages to corral a great deal of news (that matters) from all over the Web. I think the posts and comments here are well written, thoughtful, and so much fun to read (even the trolls can provide comedic relief!). Really, it's like participating in a rousing, passionate, interesting, humorous, educational, intellectually stimulating conversation about politics in America - and its impact on us, our lives, our ideals!
