Morality is not determined by the church you attend nor the faith you embrace. It is determined by the quality of your character and the positive impact you have on those you meet along your journey

Can't fault the logic.
You see, we are only ONE god away from being in perfect agreement.
That doesn't work well for me. It *is* kind of annoying. As an atheist, I don't care who believes what. But I do care how beliefs shape how people interact with and think about the world around us. I'm more worried about lack of respect for science and how that interacts with politics than belief in god.
Just temporarily and happily dismissing the fact (with good reason) that over JUST ONE god, some of the more radical religious adherents would gladly kill others, themselves and everything on the planet for their belief system.
I guess we all owe future-president of the United States of America Rick "GOOGLE ME NOW!!!" Santorum a bit of an apology. Trouncing Mittens in three - count 'em! - primaries/caucuses yesterday firmly establishes Santorum as a serious player on the world political stage! Who knew that ferret-faced lil douchebag had it (up) in him! I, for one, welcome our new homophobic, mega-xtian overlord!
A wise man once said "I would crawl through a mile of broken glass to vote against Mittens but I'd EAT a bucket of broken glass to vote against Santorum/Gingrich/Paul/Perry/Cain/Screechy/Bachmann, et al." Of course, this only proves that even wise men don't make much sense now and again, but the point is clear nonetheless.
Ah, you bring up my favorite subject, Gryphen...ATHEISM. Is it my imagination that more and more, like myself, have gone all the way and no longer cling even to the safer "agnostic" label?
Many atheists have come out of the closet just in the last decade or so. I hope I live long enough to see a self-proclaimed atheist run for political office, and win. Even say, mayor of a small town... This would give me hope for humankind, that maybe someday we'll have shed the whole abominable crap load called religion.
"I'm dreaming, aren't I?" Why do you care what other people believe, Gryphen? You imply that people who believe in a superior being are delusional and in some cases, assholes imposing their beliefs on others and dumbing down society. While there may be some truth in that, it isn't behavior limited to people who practice a religion. Fanatical assholes cross all strata, including that inhabited by atheists.
Logically, the Universe wins the contest of the multitude of gods.
But, if those scientists who consider the probability of the existence of a multiverse, we are once again "At the Beginning" (cue in the music and lyrics of Emerson, Lake and Palmer).
Wishing you Happy Dreams and a good Morning coming up...
Praise be unto Zeus, Richard Dawkins wrote “We are all atheists about most of the gods that societies have ever believed in. Some of us just go one god further.”
Hunh, it's funny, ya know? I was just reading my bible earlier today and happened to stumble across this:
Isaiah 32:5-8 is about LIBERALS vs. CONSERVATIVES: The vile person shall be no more called LIBERAL, nor the churl (Republican) said to be bountiful.
For the vile person will speak villany, and his heart will work iniquity, to practise hypocrisy, and to utter error against the LORD, to make empty the soul of the hungry, and he will cause the drink of the thirsty to fail.
The instruments also of the churl (Republican) are evil: he deviseth wicked devices to destroy the poor with lying words, even when the needy speaketh right.
But the LIBERAL deviseth liberal things; and by LIBERAL things shall he stand.
(That's the King James Version - no kiddin', look it up. I said I was an atheist - I never said I haven't read the Bible.)

ReplyDeleteHow many wars have been waged on the basis of "My non-deity is better than your non-deity"?????
Humans do dispicable things in the name of God.
