Michelle Duggar gives advice on happy marriages. Somewhere Gloria Steinem is ripping her hair out by the handful.

This according to Radar Online:

The 45-year-old wife of Jim Bob Duggar took to the stage at a conference, which aired in the season premiere of their reality show 19 Kids and Counting, where she spoke to other Christian women about her success story. The deeply religious couple focus on their beliefs in each episode of the show, and Michelle used her faith to help try to lead other women into the same happy marriage she has.

Here are the guidelines that the woman who has a clown car for a vagina  gave to those in attendance:

* A Husband Needs A Wife Who Accepts Him As A Leader And Believes In His God-Given Responsibilities”: Husbands are commanded to govern their wives; God works through a man’s decisions — good or bad; Bad decisions reveal his needs and allow the wife to appeal and demonstrate Godly character; The more a wife trusts her husband, the more careful he will be in giving her direction; Never ask others for counsel without your husband’s approval; reassure your husband that you understand and believe that he is your God-given leader.

* A husband needs a wife who will continue to develop inward and outward beauty: How can you become more of the wife of your husband’s dreams?; discover and conform to your husband’s real wishes; explain your hairstyle to others on the basis of your submission to your authority; separate your “rights” from your responsibilities.

* Ask your husband to define your responsibilities; Ask your husband to tell you when you have a resistant spirit; dispel a backbiting tongue by silence.

I come from a long line of VERY independent women, and I can tell you right now that I have NO respect for a woman who allows herself to be treated like a second class citizen by her husband.

I always thought that a perfect marriage was between equals, not a woman in indentured servitude to a man.

You know maybe if this woman developed a backbone she would not have spent her life popping out kids like a Pez dispenser.

That is just ridiculous!

Instead, they contribute to the downfall of the world with overpopulation.

    Ignorant sanctimonious IDIOTS !

  3. Spoken like a true woman of the Eighteenth Century. One of our Founding Mothers for sure.

I wonder if Michelle Duggar is barefoot? Does she have to ask her husband's permission to vote? Does she vote for whomever he tells her to vote for?

People like the Duggars must have blacked out the strides of the Twentieth Century, especially the rights achieved in the past fifty years.

And they get a reality show to use as a platform for their religious and social agenda, little realizing that a lot of people tune in to watch this strange family in its natural habitat, like zoo animals.

(Frankly, I find them very disturbing.)

Does this sound like a S/M relationship to anyone else? Except I don't see any "safe word" when the submissive is pushed past her physical or emotional boundaries.

I think those kids are raising each other. Mom's attention is focused on the newest, most tiny, dependent baby. The grown-up babies that can walk and talk just aren't as cute and helpless.

I wonder if she'd stop having babies if her television show went off the air. This is just pathetic. How can the faux-Christian fundamentalists in this country decry Sharia law when that is what they are trying to establish here?

  6. This Quiverful "because the darkies are coming for us" Movement is appalling. I don't know what marriage service they had, but nowhere in my wedding vows was I told to "obey" or be subservient to my husband.

Duggar is asking for a world of problems after menopause. She should get her vagina yanked out now before it kills her. My Mom had four children and had many problems with uterus prolapse. The doctors could not do much for her; none of those "guards" would fit her.

I didn't mean to get so graphic. Apologies to all with sensitive stomachs.

    I do like this:
"explain yourhairstyle to others on te basis of your submission to your authority." Now, first wtf does that even mean, and secondly, is she telling us even her HAIRSTYLE is determined by her loving husband, after he consults with God? Somehow I think God is a little busy with famines and wars and doesn't give a flying fig what her hair looks like. But to these dominionists, rule over others is key. They have all these kids so they have their own little army. I was the oldest of six, and my mom was often ill with the pregnancies after mine, so at the age of five, I was maling peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for my siblings and cleaning up after them. My dad was Catholic, so seven pregnancies in 8 years was expected (she miscarried one, or in the words of the GOP, she 'exterminated one baby like a bug!')
These self-righteous people have been brainwashed by their church, and are only able to afford this many kids due to their TV gig. I wonder if 10 years from now one of them will write a book about being a Duggar and slaving away while a child instead of being able to dream, create, and just run around...the girls have all become instant mothers to the babies, and the boys are learning all about how to rule the roost. Disgusting, and not God's will at all.

Michelle shouldn't be held responsible for anything she says. Her mind and will has been depleted by the lack of iron she is suffering from all the pregnancies she's endured.

And could someone tell this woman if she continues to listen to her husband and the voices in her head her flock of children will be motherless and old jim Bob will go looking for a twenty year old to impregnate for the better glory of reality tv.

What baffles me is that these people always talk about how they live their life guided by God. They "listen" to God for advice. She had a premature baby who almost died and then a miscarriage. And yet, it never occurs to them that God might be telling them to stop having babies. Funny how they only listen to God when he/she is telling them something they want to hear.

What about husbands who abuse their wives physically, verbally, and emotionally? Are they Satan's chosen leader?

She's not a woman she's a rabbit or breeder. With so many children they can't pay any tax!. If something happens to one of them think about how many checks the goverment will have to send out every month. Where is responsibility? In the 90's you couldn't even get a glass of water out west if you didn't request one. Lack of water. All the cities that have bans on watering lawns but on specific day for ppl. Now these nuts are telling ppl that the birth rate is down and need every baby conceved to make it. These idoits believe this. Is it fair to hsve 19 children on the insurance? if they have insurance? Why should the rest of society pay for them to keep having children. This why I had only 2 children. I was raised to think you only have children that you can afford. Of course I didn't have a reality show pay us to keep having children. I heard talk about how women should stay at home . They want breeders to keep them with children for labor and anything their hearts desire. This will be the next big industry for corporations child labor. After all this is their jobs plan. They won't need so many jobs if women can't work, they are already defunding public education, so women will havethe responsibity of homeschooling, her brood. The kids will end up taken away and put into the work force or taken because they have too much free time not going to school, can't have idle kids. Corporations and the rich want the children for cheap labor. They aren't making good paying jobs for adults or training them , think about it.

I think she's got in wrong. Mrs. Duggar forgot to read further down Ephesians 5:22. Yes, it says, "Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church...."

But, it also instructs men: "Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for Her". These instructions were also a comparison to the how order of the church should be. Christ, husband, and wife. In those days, it wasn't at all unusual for a woman to have to rely entirely on her husband.

At the end it says: "This is a great mystery, but I (Paul) speak concerning Christ and the church. Nevertheless let each one of you in particular so love his own wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband." It says it goes two ways here. One can't work without the other.

I personally know many of these religious type of christians who dress very modestly, don't cut their hair, and might seem to project what the Duggars are, because of how they dress and look. But, the Duggars are the extreme fringe, in that they seem to salivate at the thought of the woman being so extremely submissive to the man. Whether it's a sexual thing or what, I don't know. If the man doesn't care enough about his wife by putting all that wear and stress on her with all those kids, he's not doing his job in the marriage. They are not setting a good example by selling their story for profit. That says they need money and lots of it and have to market their story to be comfortable with all those kids? Where does it say to do that in the bible?

The Duggars are overloading on the "submissive woman" thing. That guy needs to give his wife a big break and send her off on a vacation by herself. He has that cat just ate the mouse look and can't keep himself continent enough to get her pregnant all the time? That's not love. That's slavery. They're absolutely not living that expression in Ephesians.

Again, the Duggars have overriden God's ways by exploiting their "god-inspired marriage" for all to see on highly-paid reality TV show? They are fakes. And she's marketing her "god-inspired marriage" by speaking and getting paid? That's a sham.

What about a husband's responsibility to protect his wife? Having a baby each year is very stressful on a woman's body, does he not care about that? Does he work, or is the TV show supporting their lifestyle? In this enlightened age, where did these people come from? Santorum would love to have the US populated with couples just like these. Un - bloody -believeable.

So she has a baby a year, runs this household, cooks, cleans, and still homeschools? All these children are getting in the way of schooling is lessons in how to dominate if you're male, and be submissive if God made you a girl. We really, really need some rules about homeschooling in this country.

  26. Well, I don't know who brainwashed her, but I sure know that they are brainwashing those kids. Homeschooled, only associate with like-minded families.

Also, it's about time that they really get called out on their anti-pill BS. Fom their website: "They found that while taking the pill you can get pregnant and then miscarry. They were grieved! They were Christians! They were pro-life! They realized that their selfish actions had taken the life of their child."

But it's not "selfish" when she continues to have high risk pregnancies. Those high risks resulted in the last child being extremely premature, with all the problems associated with that. Oh, no. That's "God's will."

Their ultimate selfishness? The premi daughter, when they brought her home, they had a couple, 3 of the oldest kids trained as "EMTs" so that if their premi sister stopped breathing or whatever (she was still on monitors, oxygen etc even though released from hospital), her siblings could give her CPR or whatever until the ambulence arrived. Can you imagine what it would have done to those kids if their sister arrested, they tried to resessitate her & failed and their sister died? Jim Bob & Michelle are the f***ing parents, not the kids. F*** them for shifting that responsibility to their children.

When I was a young wife, there was a series of Bible Study groups aimed at stay-at-home moms. This philosophy she's spouting is just the same as it was in 1980. I actually bought into it briefly, and then realized that I could actually thimnk for myself, amke decisions without my husband's demands, and was a worthwhile person, with or without him. We are still married, but our relationship is based on equality, not some fake messages from God. I pray, but my husband doesn't even attend church, and he is one of the most honest and true people I have ever known. This woman is headed for some real health issues down the road, if the next baby doesn't kill her first.

Ick. I have been following the creepy saga of the Duggars since I was living in Arkansas and received a postcard pimping Jim Bob's failed Congressional campaign several years ago. It was a photo of his family (there were maybe 14 kids at the time), and the kids were all holding violins and dressed in ridiculous prairie clothing. I thought WTF! Is this a joke? This post highlights their wacky beliefs, but it just scratches the surface of the seemingly endless amount of patriarchal crazy that comes from these people. There is an excellent forum called freejinger.org (it is named after one of the Duggar girls) where members explore these religious nuts and others like them in a snarky way. It is informative and entertaining if anyone is interested in that sort of thing.

One point about this couple, after the early delivery about 2 years ago, she took medicine to strengthen her uterus so that she could carry another pregnancy to full term. It is reported in news stories. So, on the one hand they say they will take as many babies as God gives them. On the other, even though her body is saying "Enough!" they don't just accept that that is God's way. They want to get to 20 kids one way or another.

So you think St. Paul knew more than Duggar knows. Well, some people (like me) think both of them are full of it. You cherry pick the "bible" to fit your arguments. Because it seems to bear repeating around here, lest some equate this family with Christian practice universally (I am not saying you personally, Gryphen, but others who habitually turn to knee-jerk condemnation):

These people are far right fundamentalists. They are extremists to the nth degree. Michelle's views may be passionate, but they are first and foremost entrenched because they are sustained in an insular cocoon - by design, and/or by her choice, perhaps. I guess people want to assume she is brainwashed, but then again she seems like a pretty happy lady, if so. She obviously views motherhood as her career, whether people like it or not. Regardless, the Duggars do not represent Christianity as it is practiced, by the vast majority, around the world.

I know you all would love to think these people are typical Christians, but they are not.

I would not present Lubavitcher Hasidim as representatives of Judaism. I would not present Wahabist Islam as representative of all Muslim practice. All of these fundamentalist groups turn to the same holy books as their more progressive and less literally- interpreting counterparts. Doesn't make the groups equal, however.

Let's educate ourselves a bit and stop cherry picking examples to support prejudice and ignorance.

The only reason anyone even knows or cares about the Duggars and the Sister Wives family is because they are basically fascinating (freak) sideshows. They make for good television precisely because they are extreme.

They aren't going to feature mainstream religious practitioners on television for one reason, and one reason only: it would be boring and uneventful.

Stop being led around by the nose by mainstream, profit-making media, how about?

The balanced, fact-based information is out there. It's easy to become hysterical because we have some extremists currently running at the national level and this reinforces the idea that they are "taking over". My hope is that they expose their reactionary views and thus end up being marginalized.

Our President is a mainstream Christian. His entire demeanor and way of life is the best evidence for what typical Christianity looks like. People may not want that to be true because they have axes to grind, but that's how it is.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Once again, I believe President Obama says it best:

‎"There are a whole lot of religious people in America, including the majority of Democrats. When we abandon the field of religious discourse—when we ignore the debate about what it means to be a good Christian or Muslim or Jew; when we discuss religion only in the negative sense of where or how it should not be practiced, rather than in the positive sense of what it tells us about our obligations toward one another; when we shy away from religious venues and religious broadcasts because we assume that we will be unwelcome—others will fill the vacuum. And those who do are likely to be those with the most insular views of faith, or who cynically use religion to justify partisan ends."

    — Barack Obama

I don't care what people believe or don't believe. Actions speak louder than words, in my opinion. These people are selfish, egotistical idiots. What good are they doing for the world? What contributions are they making to society? A crappy reality show and so many kids that they can't even take care of them all - the older kids have to do it for them instead of having childhoods and learning about the world and other people.

    Disgusting.

  46. I have watched many of the Duggar epidsodes and I have almost always been impressed with Michelle (bless her heart). JimBob reminds me of my overbearing bro-in-law, so I'm not that into him. I hope that having that many children, however, is a MUTUAL decision and not imposed on her from her leader husband.

She seems truly happy with her choices and her family, and if she wants to take the role of follower and let her husband be the ultimate decision-maker then that's her call. If others want to take her up on her advice, again, that's their call, and if the rest of us want to be how we are, and have equal roles in our marriages, then that's our choice. I don't want to raise my daughters thinking that they have to take a submissive role in their relationships, and I don't want to raise my son thinking he is the ultimate authority in his relationships. I would see that as unhealthy and unfair.

But I have to say again, Michelle is a sweet lady and she's entitled to her opinion.

PS. Does this mean that that silly hair style of hers is Jimbob's desire? Was she subtly telling us that if it was up to her, her hair would be done differently?

I have never heard of these people before but this is utterly frightening. And from Santorum to this couple, it's very clear that we are one step away from Margaret Atwood's predictions where women are simply breeders.

Do these people have money or are they on welfare? I they have money where does it come from? Only Mitt Romeny can support that many kids. And NO WAY are those children getting their needs met. I have 5 cats and there is no way I can give any one of them the affection they need and ask for. And cats are much easier than kids, and she has 3 times and many kids as I have cats. Those kids are going to be f-ed up majorly. And probably all having incest with each other, if the dad is already poking the young girls. Very sorry state of affairs. It's like Israel too, they have their fundamentalist Jews who are also women-haters and breeders and uneducated and all under the guise of being the holy ones. And yet they all condemn the middle east for these things, yet this is what they are themselves. It's all very weird. BUT it is in the powers-that-be best interests if they breed and entire population of dumb people because then they can be frightened and easily controlled. It's just astounding.

I wish I could say that I pity this woman, but I do not. She has willfully donned a mantle of obdurate ignorance and submission in deference to a hopelessly outdated neo-Bronze Age superstitious view of society. She imagines this as piety and being devout. She's just plain stupid.

Using the bible to justify the social repression of anyone is not piety, it is utter ludimocrosity. The same logic could be used to justify slavery, polygamy, and stoning epileptics.

Nothing pisses me off more than when fundagelicals try to put the imprimatur of Jesus Christ on their own bigotry by citing the social codes from Israel of antiquity. They pick and choose from among the Levitical laws to see which best suits their ignorant conceits. Want to oppress women, gays, and blacks? No problem! We've got biblical verses that endorse all of that ignorance and more!

I just hope that some of her sons and daughters break free from this cult of imbecility and repression and realize that their parents represent the Christian equivalent of the Taliban.

I cannot fathom why some people are so willing to go through life with their brains permanently switched to the "OFF" position.

I see a woman who defines her worth only in terms of her submissive relationship with her husband and the number of children they bring into the world. The fact that their older children have to do a lot of the actual hands-on parenting shows what a bad idea it is to just keep on bearing kids, even at great risk of maternal and/or infant mortality. This also says a lot about him, because it suggests that he predicates his own manhood on her submissiveness.

What is so sad about this, is that these types of personalities need someone else to "guide" them because they basically have no self-esteem. They do not believe their views, beliefs, needs, etc. are valid without the consent, approval and direction of their Male-in-charge.

It is the ultimate co-dependent relationship. The man gets to feel oh so manly, without nary anyone in his household daring to utter any kind of opinion, direction, statement, etc. that is negative to his own way of thinking.

This is not being a man. A real man is not threatened by his wife's intellectual capability, her sexuality or her "independence". Instead those qualities in his wife should work to make the marriage and family a stronger unit.

I wouldn't have a problem with Mrs. Dugger's "choices" if they really seemed to be her own. But knowing such people firsthand, I doubt she'd be able to form an independent thought if her life depended upon it.

An how utterly unprepared those children will be if they are ever asked to function outside of their unreality bubble.

I think TLC needs to switch the Duggars from "19 Kidsand counting" to "Hoarders" . These people are truly sick, if someone had that many dogs in their house, they would be taken away and fined, possibly jailed . Think about it.

And I agree with Angela. I just told my husband the other day , that I think Jim Bob is truly trying to kill Michelle with all these pregnancies so he can get himself a new young breeding bitch. Michelle just had a miscarriage, and the last pregnancy almost killed her

  64. The real tragedy is that there's nobody in Michelle's life she trusts to tell her the truth.

I have two adult children and their spouses as well as numerous friends who would instantly speak up if they thought I was making breathtakingly stupid decisions about my life. Not that my husband is remotely like Jim-Bob, thank fortune. But nobody in my life would let me lie down and be a victim without a fight.

That picture of Michelle looking up at her husband?

She looks like an old dog that somebody dumped by the road... lost.... uncomprehending. "Are you going to be my human? I don't know where my human went..."

Her life has gone completely off the rails and the only person close to her is telling her it's God's will that she be a victim.

And if she died, he'd remarry immediately and insist his wife have more kids.

    It's so sick.

Just wait a few years; intelligent people are thoughtful, want to care for only as many as they can take care of (themselves, not the poor eldest kids) busy and have 0 to 2 kids, usually.

People like the Duggars, and others who really don't care about how many babies they pop out, or father, just keep churning out more and more kids.

Gryph, just last week you posted several articles about the righties' attempts to stick their noses into the rights of women to utilize birth control. Today, you have posted this article, and over 99% of the comments are about the lefties' attempts to stick their noses into the rights of women to NOT utilize birth control.

The hypocrisy is astounding. Either we believe in live and let live and mind your own business for everyone, or we don't believe in it for anyone – ourselves included. If we have the right to publicly trash women who have a different belief system and choose a different personal lifestyle than ours, then we open ourselves up to allowing others the same rights with respect to trashing our belief systems and chosen lifestyles. We simply can not have it both ways, or we are nothing more than a mirror-image of the extreme right wing, an exact clone of what we find to be reprehensible. We are blindly destroying our own position by what we are doing here.

I would never choose the Dugger's lifestyles. However, I do not see evil, lies, manipulation, and negativity emanating from them (unlike a certain family in Alaska). Moreover, I do not see them attempting to forcibly impose their views on others (having a website where they express their opinions is their 1st Amendment right, just as it is our 1st Amendment right to post our opinions here).

The Dugger children and their parents seem happy, hard-working, and to enjoy one another's company. The children look like the kind of children I would enjoy being around. Hurray for them all, and shame on us for mocking their right to choose their own religious beliefs and to have freedom of expression, freedom of choice, fundamental privacy and, yes, the freedom to make money by having their own unfaked reality show. Mind your own business is a virtue that, when broken, sets the violator up for all kinds of unintended similar assaults. I do not want to 'go there'.

Our President is a mainstream Christian. His entire demeanor and way of life is the best evidence for what typical Christianity looks like. People may not want that to be true because they have axes to grind, but that's how it is.

    6:57 AM

    --------------

I'd be more comfortable with a President that practiced NO religion, but since the majority of Americans proclaim Christianity as their religion we always get a Christian President. If there were more Muslims in America would our POTUSs tend to be Muslim? Same with Judaism; if it were to predominate in the US would we have Jewish President?

I feel as if the Presidents, any of them and all of them, are kowtowing to the religion of the majority because one certainly can't get elected in the US if you are an Atheist or practice a religion that is in the minority.

Case in point, look at all the hoopla created at the possibility of Pres. Obama being a Muslim. Why, that just wouldn't fly here in America now would it? No wonder he says he's a Christian; they all do because they HAVE to.

It's just sick the power that religion holds in our non-theocratically based society and government.

This crazy family puts their lifestyle choice up there on TV (so much for your "fundamental privacy"!), they run around making speeches in an attempt to convince others to emulate their sick lifestyle, and they stick their crazy noses into our political process, advocating dominionism and a sick theocracy. All of that means that we certainly have the right to comment on what they are doing and preaching. They are trying to take away our freedom of choice, our freedom of religion, and you tell us to sit down and shut up while you shout "Hurray for them"?

Yet it actually goes beyond that. We are living on an overcrowded planet hurtling toward self-destruction, and these crazy, selfish people have 19 children! This mindset is a threat to our planet's survival, as are the people who preach it. That sure as hell gives me the right--no, the duty!--to push back and say, "Shame on YOU."

I remember seeing this show when it was fairly new, and it was presnted in a "cute" documentary format, kind of like an old newsreel. Jim Bob and "the boys" (who ranged in age at that time from about 4 to 16) were "building" that huge house you see in the background. On their own. Being taped by TLC. Oh...for sure! Then they "ran into a few problems" and couldn't meet the deadline when they had to leave their other house. Gee willikers, what to do? TLC came to the rescue of course, sending in professional contractors and finishing it for them: outfitting the place with a full, commercial kitchen that would be the envy of a 5-star restaurant; an in-home laundromat (that the little slave girls use); huge playroom with all the latest electronic goodies; etc. etc. etc. Michelle kept saying how the boys "built the house themselves--with help from their friends at TLC."

There's gold in them thar chillun!

On the TWOP* forum, I read that Dad often bragged about how HE has all these children and NO debt--I think he's a minister of the Quiverful movement; probably takes donations and pays no taxes since it's a cult...er, "religion." And now they have a nice income from their reality show, which most people who yearn for a brood that needs its own zip code do not.

And, yes, I believe that the Quiverful husbands ARE allowed to look for a fresh young chickie if Mom is no longer able to reproduce--or just wilts from exhaustion. I kid you not--which is why Momma probably keeps trying her best to crank them out before her Master drops her like a hot rock, along with a lucrative TV deal. And this is supposed to inspire young women to follow the same creepy path?

More babies = more wage slaves for the rich. And more little warriors for Jebus.

9:29, I would normally agree with you, but your post has some very obvious omissions.

The first being that Jim Bob and Michelle's income comes from HAVING A TEE VEE CAMERA Record everything they do! They regularly sell themselves and their children to the tabloid media, film their son's honeymoon, and their fetus's funeral, and appear on talk shows when they have a miscarriage , write a book, or become grandparents. This family has absolutely zero limits on how far they will go to sell them selves and their children and concurrently proselytize about their religion and choices.

They use their "fame" to promote the Quiverfull movement, tell everyone God says not to use birth control, and keep their older daughters enslaved in their home to parent their younger siblings. I would say it is our business when the Duggars try to present themselves as a model to emulate.

I'd take Paul with a pound of salt. He was never an apostle. His (misogynist) spouting is his own PR and the fact the church thought including him in the bible (while excluding others) worked to support their own agendas counts against him. Namely that women are property and should submit to their husbands, barefoot and mouth shut.

I wouldn't take anything Paul says at face value. My Dad taught me not to deal with middle management but go straight to the top. So Paul is out, Jesus is in.

If any biblethumper can support their (warped and twisted) views without using Paul or the old testament, then I'll listen. Otherwise, they're just another Pharisee or false prophet.

It's one thing to have a large family where the older siblings help the younger siblings on occasion but the older girls have no life other than taking care of the little ones, cooking, cleaning, laundry, etc. The Duggars never would have had such a large family if the older girls weren't willing to play mother to their siblings from an early age. It's disgusting how they take their childhood away from them, teaching them at an early age that this is all they are supposed to do in life, raise little girls to grow up, get married, take care of babies and repeat the cycle, having as many children as possible. Do they ever stop to think about population control? If each of their kids were to have even half the number of children that they do, they would end up with close to 200 grandchildren. Let's see them remember those names and birthdays! Then the grandchildren go on to have half as many as their parents, they would still have 1000 great-grandchildren!! The only thing that's funny about this is that there is definitely going to be some of their children, grandchildren, etc. that are gay. There's no getting around that one. The percentages are too high. How will they handle that one??

I love the comments that call for people to go to the Bible and read a passage (for any reason), when what we see here is an extreme case of fundamentalism that's beyond logic. This is exactly like the Amish, where the older girls are forced to care for their siblings, so not only is Mrs Duggar willfully a slave, but her daughters are forced to raise childen when they should BE children themselves.
I'm married to my husband, but we don't own each other nor owe each other to lose our autonomy. I have a daughter and a son, they both know how to use every appliance in the house, how to sew a button, iron, mend socks, cook, do minor household repairs, change the oil etc.

Because we raised our children to be able to take care of their own needs and not have to depend nor demand someone else do these things for them.

We're not living in the biblical ages, when childhood mortality rates were high and having a big family was insurance for our old age and cheap labor to toil in our fields.

This family is a disgrace, but "entertainment" has become a joke, in return they get a new house and a platform to promote their sick lifestyle, along with motivational speaking gigs and sponsorship money. If they were doing this with pure intentions, they wouldn't be on television at all.
As "boring" as my "normal" family is, the last thing I'd do is put money before their well-being. And I wouldn't trade them, warts and all, for the Duggar's sick life.

She's is training her kids, if nothing else but by her own example, that women are less then men. Her daughters are cheated of their potential in life and her sons are burdened with the additional pressures of maintaining dominance. With the challenges we face, we need more thinkers and less intellectual freeloaders. Women like this creep me out.
