Polls show that the Republicans are suffering from an enthusiasm gap, whereas it looks more and more like the Democrats are getting "Fired Up, Ready To Go!"

Courtesy of Public Policy Polling:

The paltry turnout in the Republican Presidential contests over the last week reflects what we've seen in our recent national polling: Democrats are now more excited about voting this fall than Republicans are, reversing the enthusiasm gap that plagued the party in 2010.

Our last national survey for Daily Kos found that 58% of Democrats were 'very excited' about voting this fall, compared to 54% of Republicans. Six months ago the figures were 48% of Democrats 'very excited' and Republicans at the same 54%. Generally you would expect voters to get more excited as the election gets nearer. That trend is occurring on the Democratic side, but not for the GOP.

Going deeper inside the numbers:

-25% of conservatives are not at all excited to vote this fall, compared to only 16% of liberals.

-The percentage of Tea Party voters 'very excited' about voting in November has declined from 73% to 62% since late July.

-The single group of voters most enthused about turning this year are African Americans, 72% of whom say they're 'very excited' to cast their ballots.

The MSM and Republicans have certainly tried their best to sell the idea that people are seriously dissatisfied with this President, but the closer we get to the election the more it appears that the dissatisfaction is meme with little merit.

However after Romney lost big in three states to Rick "frothy mixture" Santorum yesterday, it seems the enthusiasm gap is real, it was just identified for the wrong party.

With Rick Santorum’s three victories yesterday in Missouri, Minnesota and Colorado, the whole nature of the Republican race has changed. And changed in a profound way.

That air of inevitability that Mitt Romney was once again exuding following his decisive 15 point win in Florida has vanished overnight. Once again, the GOP race is wide open.

No longer is this a one-man race, nor is it even a two-man race.

Yep it is a good time to be a Democrat.  Especially considering the alternative.

Rick the douche "won" MN with a paltry number of votes and if one examined the demographics he probably benefited from the Twin Cities mega churches getting their flock out to vote along with the Catholics. Then throw in the crazy ass mess of Shelly's dominion in the 6th District and you have a "win". In a general election against Obama he would not stand a chance with the majority of Minnesota folks. We may be frozen into numbness much of the time but we are smart enough (most of us) to wear proper attire when we go out in the winter. He would be toast up here if he won the nomination

Absolutely beautiful news!!! What I also want to hear is that Republican Congressional candidates up for re-election, or running for office are having a hard time getting donations and are behind in the pools. As much as I would like to see Obama re-elected, I would love it if we took over the House and maintained control of the Senate. I would especially like to see the Tea Party candidates from 2010 kick out. People such as West, Wales, Cantor, and McConnell would especially be great!!

Am I asking too much and setting myself up for a big fall?

So long as they don't take this election for granted. The big money behind the Republicans/Conservatives is alarming and their desire to take government away from the people completely is unrelenting.

What if Santorum had been correctly been declared the winner in Iowa the first time around? Perhaps Willard The Mutt Crator might not have won New Hampshire. And if he didn't win NH then maybe he would not have won SC and then FL. A little voter fraud goes a long way, eh W? Eh, Willard?

I expect the Dem's increasing enthusiasm and the Repub's diminishing enthusiasm result from the same thing - the Republican candidates. Republicans are doing face-plants on their coffee tables during the debates, and Dems are looking at each other saying, "Holy shit - we can't let any of these jackasses in the White House."

Romney's trying to salvage his losses by now claiming that primaries "are supposed to be long processes." Yes, I'm sure we all believe that Romney wants to blow through millions more in his desperation to buy the nomination.

By the way...just how electable is this guy, anyway? Hasn't he lost five out of eight primaries now????

A good time to be a Democrat, considering the alternative? What, you're not prepared to re-enter the 19th century, when women had a baby a year, gays were non-existent, blacks were living in cotton-row shanties and the white man ruled the world? Not ready for president Santorum, who would try to drag us all kicking and screaming back into the 19th century, by outlawing contraception and treating gay sex as "man on dog?" Or Million dollar man Mittens who doesn't care about the poor? Or how about multiple-married moon man Newt, who's meaner than Scrooge? A good time to be a Dem? My goodness, you must think this is the 21st century, Gryph.

Romney has been unemployed for 10 YEARS, working full-time on his life-long aspiration to become president and spending countless millions of his own moolah along the way. What's hard to grasp is how someone could spend all those years planning for the job, and then be unwilling to take questions from even a carefully screened audience, and unable to answer softball questions from a friendly press (and have to do an "oopsie, what I really meant was . . . ." the next day). In other cases, he failed to comprehend that his statements were beyond stupid, and thus did not even try clarify the next day.

Seriously, how can someone that stupid have amassed over a quarter of a billion dollars from his own efforts? How can someone spend that many years aspiring for a job and yet still be unprepared to fill it?

BTW, Bain Capital owns Clear Channel, a global media conglomerate that is also the largest radio station group owner in the US. It owns most of the conservative talk radio stations in America. If Romney is ever 'elected' president, he will literally have have an ownership interest in most of America's media. Think about THAT one. Knowing this, we can also understand how it 'happens' that right wing radio walks in lock step and is anti-Obama.

O/T but this was a really interesting and informative article. I hope it gets more exposure.

Catholics’ Enraged Response to Obama Birth-Control Policy Is Misplaced

...The Obama administration, then, was acting in line with several longstanding state and federal precedents when it issued these new regulations, something that’s been totally obscured amid all the caterwauling we’ve heard in response. “Women who work at hospitals or universities or social-service agencies with religious affiliation don’t need contraceptive access any less than women who work at other sorts of hospitals and universities and social-service agencies, the ideology of their employers doesn’t affect their health-care needs and shouldn’t affect their health-care access.”

    @ 7:22

I also have been wondering what motivates Romney. He's got all the money in the world. I've worked for a nameless billionaire who always belittled other billionaires. It was always about how much money he was worth than the other guy. They are heavy into themselves. They could be reincarnated 20 times and still wouldn't be able to spend their wealth. What they do have in common is the craving to control people. They want something money can't buy. They want power.

Romney will make a paltry 400K a year as president. He makes that much now on interest alone. Hardly a salary for the toughest job in the US. Look at past presidents after a mere 2 years in office. Look at what 4 years of stress does. You age fast. Look at Obama and how gray his temples got. Look at George Dubbya before and after.

I'm wondering if his church has something to do with his motive. The LDS is a cloak and dagger religion with hidden agendas. Romney is the same rank as a cardinal in the catholic church. He's way up there in status. Some say he's been groomed and propped up by the LDS to achieve the goal of the presidency.

And since I like Gryphen's stance on religion...I'm wondering..

"I'm wondering if his church has something to do with his motive. The LDS is a cloak and dagger religion with hidden agendas."

DING DING DING, ladies and gents we have a winner. Just read One Nation Under Gods all the way through and you will be educated as to the real motives behind Romney and his "church". Way back in the 1800's Joe Smith ran for president planning on making the USA a Mormon theocracy. It didn't pan out that way, but Romney was raised to be the thing you see today. That's why he cannot connect with anyone, he is truly a constructed candidate from day one. This is how a lot of Mormons are, paper cut outs of who they really are as their church has brainwashed them from birth.
If Romney does not follow his church's and president/prophet's exact word, he will be denied his heavenly reward (own planet, celestial wives, etc.) The LDS church has no out clause like the Catholics do (confession). He MUST do what his church says, period.

I can hardly wait to cast my vote for President Obama AGAIN! In talking w/family and friends - most of them plan to do the same. They (and I) think the Republican party a horrid mess and the United States Congress an absolute embarrassment (their approval rating is now at 10% per a poll done yesterday - 2/8/12) to American citizens and the world.

Anon 9:34 am: "I also have been wondering what motivates Romney. He's got all the money in the world."

Keep in mind that his father was governor, and I *think* ran for the presidential nomination at one point. So Romney probably just made an impulsive decision at some point that he would simply follow in his father's footsteps. And why not? He was born on third base with loads of money and political & corporate connections at his disposal.

In short, he probably feels entitled to the presidency, even though he's lost election after election and even in this race, has lost more primaries than he's actually won. Actual voter rejection does not seem to be affecting his strong sense of entitlement to political office.

I want a Democratic landslide in November 2012. I want over 60 Democrats in the Senate so that they can undo that ridiculous rule put in place by the Republicans. I want a hefty Democratic majority in the House so that time is not wasted redefining "rape" or talking about defunding NASA, NOAA, and a myriad of other essential government agencies. I want President Obama to be our country's leader until January 2017. And that will take lots of work on all levels.

    OBAMA 2012!!!
