Game Change open thread.

It dawned on me a little earlier that most of you will see the movie well before we get it up here in Alaska, so it would make little sense to have a post up that I could update as the movie progressed, since most of you would have already finished watching it.

Actually that is not a bad thing as I would much rather give my full attention to the movie and leave the worry about blogging about it for tomorrow.

However I thought that all of you who are already watching might want a place to discuss the movie and share your impressions.

So go ahead and do so here. Don't worry about giving away any plot lines as I think most of us have read the book, and of course ALL of us experienced the campaign in real time back in 2008.

I may not be able to review and post your comments for a little bit at first because I am supposed to be at dinner with my daughter at the newly opened Olive Garden as the movie starts on the east coast. But as soon as I arrive back home I will update the comments section.

Have fun, and a Happy Game Change day to all!

Tonight is payback for SP really thinking that Americans were dumb enough to care more about her silly Naughty Monkey pumps than about what came out of her mouth beginning with the Repub Convention speech in 2008. This is payback for thinking she could get away with saying things like she did not support the Bridge to Nowhere because Alaskans who noticed and spoke up would be too insignificant on the national stage to matter. Friends wonder why I am so obsessed with seeing Sarah Palin exposed. I am obsessed, as an Alaskan, because when I heard that she was picked to run for VP I felt like I had been kicked in the gut, because I knew how unfit she was to lead. It scared the heck out of me to think that the country I love could have such a person in a leadership position. It shamed me as an American that we had come to this. It made me sad for my kids and grandkids that the country I love had become so shallow. So tonight will be my vindication ... all the friends Outside who I emailed non-stop about SP might finally understand why I was obsessed with seeing her downfall. Let's hope we have learned our lesson.

Amen to that from another Alaskan.

Has taken much work to even get through to friends and relatives to even consider that she is a liar. They just can't believe the gas pipeline has not even had one shovel full of dirt dug and that the Bridge to Nowhere money was never returned to the Federal gov't.

When she winked during the debate it made me physically ill. Only the second woman ever to rise to that level in a presidential election and she WINKS at all the "joe six packs." It was shameful.

That is the Sarah Palin brand of feminism. That is the Republican brand of feminism.

Couldn't resist, so called Time Warner to sign up for HBO -- discovered I could subscribe then cancel and be charged on a prorated basis. It should cost me about 53 cents to watch this movie.

Speaking only to the value of watching Sarah, that is 52 cents too much - but hey, for the pleasure of boosting a movie that shows how unqualified she was (and is) it is quite the bargain.

Maybe the popularity of Game Change will nudge others to come forward with truthful, well-researched books and movies so Sister Sarah will finally be disgraced into silence.

I figured Faux News has kept her around only to profit from the fuss about the movie. Maybe now, it will find her of no use whatsoever. We can only hope. Only and hour to go until the Game begins.

Of course I have to choose between missing opening night or watching the MN State High School hockey championship game and despite the fact the two finalist are Catholic Schools I think I better record the GC and catch the game live - if I try channel flipping I know I'll miss the best parts of both - enjoy the movie everyone - I'll have to read the posts and wait until the game is over to catch it.

Wait a minute. I thought this was going to vindicate her. No, I thought it was historical fiction. No, I thought it was a sympathetic portrayal.

I guess Sarah Palin really IS ambivalent (although not on purpose, because she thinks ambivalent means the same thing as apathetic, not that she's apathetic. She's the opposite of apathetic about this movie).

Bloggers- Stay proactive. Jump on the chance to get the main message across when HP posts news of the movie. Mention the faked pregnancy and also plug Shailey's book, Boys will be Boys. HP can's censor it all and remain credible. Also be sure to mention this blog for everyone to learn more about Palin. While people's interests are up following the movie, this is an excellent opportunity to expose Palin's big deception. And that's what matters the most.

March 10, 2012 – HBO continues its tradition of producing provocative docudramas about politics with the debut of the much discussed and anticipated “Game Change,” premiering Saturday night, March 10, at 9 p.m. Eastern Time on HBO East and HBO Latino East (with Spanish subtitles); followed by airings on HBO West and Latino West at 9 p.m. Pacific Time. All four channels repeat the film three hours later.

HBO will repeatedly air “Game Change” through the weekend with two more showings on Sunday, March 11; plus showings nearly every day through March; and April 3, 7, 9, and 17.

“Game Change” will first be available via HBO On Demand starting on Monday, March 12. There is currently no date set for a DVD or Blu-Ray release.

My post on HP that just made it through the censors:

“If anyone thinks the Palin expose' is boring then they haven't been keeping in touch with the whole ugly story. Check out immoralminority blog for a lot more. Also check out Shailey Tripp's new book, entitled 'Boys will be Boys. Supposedly it's already made the best seller list. It's an expose' of Todd Palin and his alleged prostitution connections, including the alleged coverup by the Anchorage Alaska police department.
The truth has been hidden for too long and the movie is just a teaser of much more to come.”

We need many more like it and now. Keep it up steady for at least 24 hours. HP has a lot of traffic and is probably the best site there is to get our message across.

Now is not the time to sit on your hands bloggers! This is an opportunity to put this blog in the spotlight as well as destroy Palin for goood.

I'm going to uninstall the program. I don't think I need multiple seasons of Jersey Shore and vampire shows, etc. And Game Change Episode 1?

  28. We don't have cable so will never see this movie unless it goes to Netflix. Even that will be a couple of years. So we have to depend on trailers and reveiws to get any sense of it.

Or, we could just review all the genuinely stupid comments the WGE has made over the past 4 years, look at old videos, remember old glories like the phone call from Nicholas Sarkozy, the famous turkey pardon, the too-big shoes, the dirty clothes at the reception [before?] [after?] the White House journalists' dinner, and so on, ad nauseum. One of my favorite images was a clip of the entire Palin family wandering around in the dark waving to stage techs after the Republican National Convention. Or maybe it was the WGE trying to force Piper to apologize for public rudeness, and then when she wouldn't do it, apologizing for her. The sweaty inappropriate clothes in Iowa? Barging in to that motorcycle extravaganza? Trying to upstage Mitt Romney in New Hampshire? The list IS kind of endless. The worst of course was the outrageous complaint following the Giffords shooting that somehow SHE was a victim. Oh stop me now...

Olive Garden: Long story short. Friend wanted birthday party at Olive Garden in Anchorage. We went. We waited for table. We waited for drinks (my martini took 1 hour!) Ordered food. My dish was not available so made do with the iceberg lettuce salad that they offer and a chewy stuffed mushroom appetizer that seemed to have been previously frozen. Partner actually ordered beef medallions w/balsamic reduction on fettuncini. Beef was cooked nicely, fettucini was overcooked and a stuck together mess. We have not been to an Olive Garden but we thought that at least their pasta would be cooked perfectly, but no, this "italian" joint could not even accomplish an al dente pasta. Spent $45 with tip on one meal, two drinks and one appetizer for really substandard food. I hope that they have improved since we were there one month ago. If not, you might actually be cooking a "real meal" at home right now after spending money at the Olive Garden!

Took my kids there for a nice night out. Ordered up the fettucine alfredo for myself thinking it sounded good---but it was TERRIBLE. Totally smothered in alfredo sauce to where the noodles were floating. I didn't eat but about 5 bites of it.
When the server took my plate away he must have said something to the manager because the manager came over and asked me what was wrong with my meal. I told him and he took 50% off our entire bill.
Very, very cool of him to do that, but didn't really ease the pain of the food poisoning I got an hour after leaving the restaurant.

So we went to the Cattle Company instead, a restaurant I have not been to since the late eighties.

You had to have had a better meal at Cattle Company than you would have at Olive Garden. But for steaks, Sullivans kind of rules, for Italian, Villa Nova is best and for pizza Moose's Tooth. The best meal you can get in Anchorage, by far is Marx Brothers. If you want to drive to Wasilla, The Grape Tap is fabulous; sort of a Marx Bros type meal in our redneck town of Wasilla! If daughter is taking you out, make sure that you both make it memorable, and local! Don't spend money on chain restaurants!

John McCain comes off the best, very noble, kind..somehow I don't see his character being so kind when all this is going on. Sarah I think finally comes to grips with her real sense of self. She loves the applause, the adoration and doesn't see any reason for knowledge about anything. She just talks plain like the morons that adore her, just spewing negative with no solutions. I have sadness for Steve as he knew, along with Nicole really quickly she was dumb as a doornail. I mean dumb as in no interest to learn anything that doesn't instantly serve her. I always laughed at the Katie Couric interview when she asked about the Supreme Court...and DUH the Exxon Valdez ya think how they screwed Alaska after years and years would have been easy. 114. Fantastic movie. Palin doesn't come across as a victim. She is at first extremely arrogant (this is God's plan), then extremely ignorant, mentally ill, and finally, completely power-hungry. The chilling line for me was McCain whispering to her "don't let Rush Limbaugh use you to destroy the party." The movie was compelling and, at times, very funny (favorite line was Schmidt groaning at the thought that when Dick Cheney is taking the high moral ground, you really need to re-think your life). Moore is rightly praised as Palin: she loses herself in the role. But Harrelson was equally stellar, as the guy who makes a really bad decision, immediately recognizes that, and then barely treads water for the rest of the campaign.

She is clearly anorexic during the movie, not eating, focused on how heavy she is, etc.

The only scenes that weren't accurate were those with her family that weren't witnessed by any of the campaign staffers.

There were many themes in this movie: 1) Show vs. substance 2) Polish a rock long enough and it can perform in a debate 3) Politicians have an unbelievable need to be loved 4) Palin was the start of the hateful rhetoric that took over politics with the tea party 5) McCain was taken back by the vitriol 6)Schmidt and Wallace have more patience than I could ever have.

Wow, just finished. Incredible movie - Julianne deserves the Emmy.

Here was my take: there was a short time where Sarah appears sympathetic, early in the campaign where she's way over her head. And maybe you think she's mentally ill. But you lose any sympathy when you realize she lied to get the nomination, and then feel sorry for the people stuck with her. Then they do their job of propping her up and she becomes evil, mean, vindictive...

Sounds like her cycle: play victim to elicit sympathy, get what you need, then fuck everyone over.
