Like many of you I have been hearing ALL kinds of contradictory information about the movie Game Change.
Some have said it eviscerates Sarah Palin, while others claim that it is sympathetic toward her and will make people feel sorry for her.
Her people have been attacking the film, which convinced me that THEY at least think it is bad for Sarah, but then Julianne Moore has repeatedly stated that she felt sympathy for the person who she was asked to portray, which made me worry that she would fail to adequately represent the mean girl side of Palin that most of us have come to know all too well.
All in all it left me somewhat confused.
Then I received an e-mail from my friend Geoffrey Dunn, author of the book "The Lies of Sarah Palin. The Untold Story Behind Her Relentless Quest for Power," suggesting that we do an interview, since HE had already seen the movie.
Seven seconds. That's how long it took me to type out my response, "You betcha!"
Here is that interview:
Immoral Minority: Geoffrey, it seemed you took a sabbatical from writing about Palin after your book, "The Lies of Sarah Palin" was published. It is very nice to see you back over at the Huffington Post these days, is this in response to the increased interest in Palin and the movie "Game Change," or were you always planning on taking a break and then jumping back in at a later time?
Geoffrey Dunn: With Palin, as you know Jesse, there are no plans [laughter]. And after the publication of my book I felt a need to get away from that subject for a while. I think that I wrote two really important pieces about Palin in the last six months. One for the Anchorage Press called “Palin Redivivus” about problems with Frank Bailey’s book. And another for Firedog Lake entitled “Blood In the Snow” about the shameful attack on Joe McGinniss by Janet Maslin of the New York Times . Covering Palin is a bit like swimming in a cesspool—there’s no way to avoid the stink. So I took a long shower. But with the renewed focus on Palin because of Game Change , I felt as though I needed to get back into the fray. Huffington gives me a much huger audience than anywhere else. They feature my work. And with all the pushback from Palin & Co. against Game Change (the movie), I felt that I needed to come to its defense in terms of its portrayal of Palin as an extremely disruptive force on the campaign. And I will be writing several more pieces about Palin, Game Change and some of the larger issues this all raises about what I am calling “the pornography of American politics.”
IM: There has been much talk that the HBO movie Game Change might in fact portray Sarah Palin as more of a tragic figure, or garner sympathy from the audience for how she was treated by the McCain campaign. What are your thoughts on that possibility?
Dunn: Superb read on your part. But I’ve now watched Game Change twice. One of its missteps is depicting Palin as a “victim,” which of course she was not. At best she is a victim of her own psychological pathologies and delusions. And Bristol’s and Todd’s depictions will be a hoot to anyone who has ever encountered their energy in Alaska. I will be telling viewers to re-watch that footage of the family in Homer while they were filming Palin’s unreality show or the footage of Todd and Sarah at the airport in Valdez. But let me tell you, Julianne Moore absolutely inhabits Palin — and she has her crazy-angry-delusional persona down to perfection. It took me only a few blinks of an eye to fall into her character, and like you, I’ve watched far too much real Sarah Palin footage to be healthy. But Moore captures Palin for what you and I know her to be—a dysfunctional, mean-spirited woman driven by anger and revenge who is out only for herself. That is the ultimate portrait of Sarah Palin that emerges from Game Change . It’s devastating.
IM: Is there anything that you uncovered during your research for your book that you had hoped would make it into the movie?
Dunn: Most of what I uncovered during my research for the book made it into the movie, especially about Palin’s dysfunction and duplicity and betrayal. What the film really misses the mark on is all the prelude to Palin’s selection. It makes it seem as though Palin was discovered by McCain advisors while Googling for a woman candidate. That’s such a distortion of reality that I will focus some attention in the next few weeks responding to that narrative. Sarah Palin did not fall out of the sky. She was angling for that nomination from the moment she was elected Governor of Alaska. And there were right-wingers like Bill Kristol pushing her candidacy. In June of 2008 Kristol said knowingly twice, on Fox News, that Palin was going to get the nod. People inside the McCain camp—most notably Rick Davis—had their eyes on her for a long time. I tell this story in detail in my book, far more than Game Change (either the book or film), and if readers are interested in this issue I strongly suggest that they read my section of the book that deals with this vetting and selection process.
IM: We know how Steve Schmidt and Nicole Wallace view Sarah Palin these days, however many others who participated in the McCain campaign have remained relatively silent. Why do you believe that is?
Dunn: I mean, Nicolle Wallace described Palin as “cuckoo for Coco Puffs.” We know how she feels. Schmidt is far more careful, but he has clearly stated Palin is “unfit for the presidency.” Some of those other McCain operatives, like Rick Davis, are still closely associated with John McCain. Other’s like Jason Recher are still on Palin’s payroll. And the others are simply afraid to go on the record. I spoke to several people from the McCain campaign who are afraid of Palin. As you know, Palin’s minions are a vicious lot. They have gone after Schmidt. And they will go after Game Change . But I think the film will solidify in the public’s mind how dangerous and irresponsible the Palin selection really was. That’s why the Palin pushback has been so hard. This film will seriously push down Palin’s favorability ratings even further—and they are already astonishingly low.
IM: From what I can glean from the trailers for Game Change it appears that most of the responsibility for the choosing of Sarah Palin is laid at the feet of Steve Schmidt. Do you believe this is accurate? Or even fair?
Dunn: Rick Davis was in charge of selecting and vetting the VP process. He did a shitty job. And to be fair to everyone, McCain wanted Lieberman. But when the word got out they were going with Lieberman (blame Lindsay Graham for that), the rightwing nutbags who adore Palin threatened to walk out of the convention. So Lieberman was viewed as a fool’s move. That left Mitt Romney (who McCain disliked), Tim Pawlenty (who has the charisma of cardboard), and Palin (who they knew nothing about). They wanted a woman—a “game changer”—so they went with door Number Three. They initially got a huge boost and then a huge crash with Palin. Could they have won with either of the other two? Who knows? With Palin? Never. Never ever. She’s poison to any campaign. Just ask Joe Miller. Anyway, the “fault” if you will for the selection of Palin falls squarely on the shoulders on Rick Davis. The Davis character is minimized in the film, but remember Davis was busted during the campaign for being a lobbyist for Freddie Mac? Sound familiar? Anyway, Schmidt takes the fall for this and it really is unfair to him. But he’s a big boy and he will survive and thrive. He has as much integrity as anyone I’ve ever met, inside or outside of politics. The dramatic arc of Game Change is about him confronting his conscience re Palin. He knows he helped to create a monster on the landscape of American politics.
IM: Since you have already seen Game Change, you lucky dog, is there anything that was left out that you really wish had been addressed?
Dunn: Hey, I do feel like a lucky dog to have seen it. And since I was worried about it, actually, I was very very pleased with the film. As I said, it contains a brilliant performance by Julianne Moore—she will receive many awards—and it goes after a deeper story about the truly vulgar nature of American presidential politics. That story is larger than Palin. But no matter how the director and writer and HBO try to spin it, Game Change presents an absolutely devastating portrait of Palin. I was moved and shaken by it. And I know this Palin turf as well as anyone. It was still a revelation.
But yes, there is one thing I wish that would have been in the film. I really wish they had included the scene near the end of the campaign with the French-Canadian comedians pretending to be Sarkozy! Moore could have pulled it off. Whenever anyone makes the argument that Palin was prepared for the presidency, I ask them to go back and listen to that interview. I analyze it in great detail in my book. But, damn, it’s not in the film. C’est la vie!
IM: What do you predict Palin will be doing in the next five years? Do you believe her political career is over, or do you think she has any hope of rising from the ashes?
Dunn: She’s done in Alaska. She certainly had her eyes on that 2014 Senate race, and now she hasn’t got a shot. Zero. Cooked. And she really has no place in real American politics, either. I say “real” because Sarah Palin has become a punch line and a laughingstock. She’s a joke. She holds a very small—albeit intense—niche in the American political discussion, and if she stays at Fox News (where my sources tell me she is not well-loved) she will continue to have a presence. But it is marginal at best. She’s had zero impact on the 2012 race. As soon as Todd endorsed Gingrich, Newt’s prospects sunk. People are interested in Palin, but they don’t take her seriously. It’s truly pathetic to watch her talk about the possibility of her being selected at a brokered convention in Tampa. That’s why she really wants the battle to go on between Romney and the anti-Romney forces. It’s all about her. She didn’t have the guts to run. She didn’t have the political traction.
At the end of my book, I liken her to the Wizard of Oz, all smoke and mirrors, “hiding behind a phalanx of curtains and screens with no direct accountability, pulling her levers and turning her wheels to create a fraudulent illusion of power and influence.” She’s nothing more than a snake-oil salesman. She’s a fraud. And the American people have caught on.
IM: And finally, on a personal note, how is your family? Is Tess's singing career starting to take off? The rest of the family doing well?
Dunn: We’re all fine. Tess’s career has really taken off since you saw her play at that party in Anchorage [during the summer of ‘09]. She just had a new album release and has been a cover-girl on a couple of mags. Her new album is killer. She’s going to be on the Warped tour again this year. Dylan’s doing great as well, playing basketball and baseball. But they are all very tired of Sarah Palin. Very, very tired of her. Enough already. I agree.
Well that is great to hear Geoffrey, I am VERY impressed with Tess's success, though of course I knew she would be a star when I first heard her sing in Anchorage almost three years ago now.
And thank you for this great interview my friend, it definitely went a long way toward calming any feelings of concern I, and some of my readers, had about this movie.
So folks get your popcorn ready because we are only a day away from, in Geoffrey's words, "an absolutely devastating portrait of Palin."
Sounds like "must see TV" to me!
The fact that she did not really drop out of the sky and was on the Republican radar for some time yet was eventually selected as VP candidate is horrifying. Those responsible for vetting and recommending her willingly turned a blind eye to her utter lack of knowledge and qualifications and insultingly believed the American public, women in particular, would be drawn to her ‘real Amuriken’ act and ignore the fact that she was a moron!
ReplyDeleteI think she was to be the GOP puppet but she went all Mavericky on them..she's an expert at pulling the wool over people eyes and faking it but the real Sarah always come out in the end.
DeleteI think game change will also highlight the enormous amount of adulation she got and the narcissist soaked it all up like a dry sponge. It went to her head and it swelled up like a big balloon. "They love me!! They really love me!!!
Delete"That story is larger than Palin."
ReplyDeleteWhat about how the democrats chose to go with the opposite of substance? Why does that garner the attention it should? There's only one thing I detest about America and life, and it's media bias. The media is so far up the left's rear that they have no idea what they're doing. Sarah Palin was most certainly a victim. Despite sexist attacks against her in Alaska when she was first elected, she had no idea that the media was going to eat her alive and slander her as it did. What Dunn fails to say is, there were blatant lies in his book, in every part of it. He's too ignorant on who Palin is, because he doesn't know her, that he will never see these lies. He ignores that many McCain aides still support Palin, not just those on her payroll.
oh blah blah blah...don't you need to go get in line to wait for the Taco Bell to open? I hear they have Dorito shells now...maybe they can replace Crunchwrap Supremes as your favorite thing there.
Delete-sheba
Nothing you say is true Sarah. Stop lying.
DeleteHow is someone a victim when they try and fake it and get caught? Sarah loves being the victim, that's her money maker. Besides that I thought she was a Grizzly Mama, a Pitbull, with courage and a steel spine..guess that was all fake too.
DeleteYou need to be more specific as to what the blatant lies were in Dunn's book. List them.
DeletePalin, being the fearless mama grizzly that she is, should have had no hesitation in suing those people who 'slandered'her.
She keeps crying about how she is being victimized but doesn't take legal action. Why?
The old excuse of how expensive it would be doesn't hold up as her worshippers would be more than happy to foot the bill if it meant a stop to all the lies & slanderous accusations that those nasty Palin haters aim at her.
Waa, waa
DeleteI'm wondering if Geoffrey has read Sailey Tripp's book.
DeleteYou're full of BS. Around here we have a saying about excuses. They're like rear-ends: everyone has one and they all stink. Quit crying about the media. Face it, Sarah failed on her own. Just because the media reports that doesn't mean it's biased.
DeleteYou obviously didn't read his wonderful book on Sarah Palin!!!! He had proof sources galore you idiot!!!
DeleteSo Obama is 'the opposite of substance?" Really? His list of accomplishments as President of the United States and Commander in Chief is longer than the list of Palin's lies. Of course, one would have to have an open mind and turn off Fox to hear anything about those.
DeleteAs far as Sarah, the media did not 'eat her alive.' The media turned a blind eye to her actual governing, her family ties and lies, and ona nd on. She is still calling the President a terrorist when it was her and Todd who afiliated with the AIP...and yet, the media has NEVER followed up on that.
Any criticism she received was due to her own inadequacies, not anything cooked up by the left.
Sounds like her 'dealer' slept in. Waiting for her morning fix!
DeleteGive it up, Meg. She lost. You're lost.
DeleteOkay RAM...we get it...poor Baldy was just a "victim" of the big bad MEN who selected her! Poor helpless Governor of Alaska was just sitting in the snow...minding her own business when these big bad MEN asked her to be VP! STFU!
DeleteYou ought to be ashamed of yourself...Baldy is TOXIC! Everything she touches...including your dumbass...turns to shit...FACT!
Get out while you can...but since you are still begging for her forgiveness for telling the TRUTH about Beefalo...YOU'RE FUCKED!
Oh, horse manure! The media treated Sarah Palin with kids gloves throughout the entire campaign. Most of them still do. I read a review of "Game Change" this morning that basically said "nothing to see here folks, the Obama-Clinton battle was much more interesting." This from a reporter on a major news service.
DeleteSarah Palin was asked elementary school level questions at every interview and could not answer them. There was no slander; proof being that if there had been, believe me she and Todd would have tried to cash in with a lawsuit. She took a civil discussion in this country to the lowest level of hate. She routinely and publicly spreads lies about the sitting President. If she wasn't Sarah Palin, she would be arrested for treason.
The coinage of the phrase "liberal media" is one of the greatest lies and biggest hoax ever perpetuated on the American public. Except for, perhaps, the GOP managing to make the word "liberal" a dirty word. Here is a definition of liberal from dictionary.com:
favorable to or in accord with concepts of maximum individual freedom possible, especially as guaranteed by law and secured by governmental protection of civil liberties.
Now explain to me why the GOP has a problem with that......
To modify the statement of a Judge in a very well known court case
Delete"The truth and Sarah Palin supporters are strangers"
Fair or unfair, I think she does herself a disservice to even mention it. You gotta to plow through that. You have to know what you're getting into -- which, I say this with all due respect to Hillary Clinton, and to her experience and to her passion for changing the status quo also -- but when I hear a statement like that coming from a woman candidate with any kind of perceived whine about that excess criticism or you know maybe a sharper microscope put on her, I think, 'man that doesn't do us any good' -- women in politics, women in general wanting to progress this country, I don't think it bodes well for her, a statement like that. Because, again, fair or unfair, it is there, I think that's reality, and I think it's a given. I think people can just accept that she is going to be under the sharper microscope. So be it. I mean, work harder, prove yourself to an even greater degree that you're capable, that you're going to be the best candidate, and that of course is what she wants us to believe at this point. So it bothers me a little bit hearing her bring that attention to herself on that level. - Sarah Palin
DeleteYou're a hypocrite.
Hi RAM, Welcome Back!
DeleteQuick question, Doncha have to make your post sound more like Sarah to be credible?
My, my. You're sooo worried about this movie. Must be worth watchin', you betcha.
DeleteWhat about "God's Plan"? Do you believe that it was God's plan for Ms. Palin to be elected Vice President? If you believe it so, then your admission above that Ms. Palin lacked substance she did so though her own actions. She could have studied and learned enough basic geopolitical and economic information that she could have made herself a more worthy contender. She could have worked harder, instead she read People Magazine (hint: most real politicians don't even know what People Magazine is).
DeleteIn short, it may have well been God's plan, but she failed God, she felt it was destiny without work - that was her failing, and it continues to be.
A victim--huh?
DeleteWhere is the Mama Grizzly? The Pitbull? Where are Sarah's big girl pants? Where is that NRA, AIP, caribou hunting, self styled tough Alaskan frontier woman? Where is the woman who thought Hilary Clinton was whining and needed to get over herself? Where is that bold woman who puts gun sights on congresswomen's districts? Where is the woman who boarded a ten hour flight in labor, dripping amniotic fluid about to deliver a developmentally handicapped infant? Where is the woman who brought screaming racist crowds to their feet? Where is the woman who went behind John McCain's back and effed him over during the campaign?
Sarah Palin is not a victim. She's a viper. Inept--but a viper nonetheless.
"Not just McCain aides on her payroll"
DeleteRight - don't forget the ones whose reputation would make them un-hireable if the real truth about Ms. Palin came out.
Name them. come on, I dare you. If you refuse to do this, you are a liar.
DeleteAngela..like 100 times!
DeleteSo, RAM/Sarah, where are all the lawsuits? If Sarah is such a victim, surely there would have been lawsuits by now.
DeleteWhat the Palin supporters do not understand is that people who are full of love, compassion, and grace have no reason for people to attack them. It's the bullies, the barking dog's, that folks don't want living in their neighborhoods. The people who know she is evil are voicing their opinions in all forms of media. Reminds me of the pit bull barking, jerking at her chain in the back of the pickup truck. The owner thinks his dog is so cute and lovable. The rest of us think, shit, I hope that bitch doesn't loose her chain.
DeleteNo one's more rapid, cruel, irrational, and devious than the average Palin hater. Just compare comments. Gryphen wouldn't receive liberals' emails cursing at the stars because someone called Michelle fat and useless. He only receives emails from the other side. Whether it's far right or far left, marginalized people don't come across as balanced. But there's more decency at c4p than any liberal, anti-Palin blog. There's also more honesty reflection and less delusion.
ReplyDeleteLess delusion?? Are you serious?? Less delusion at C4P? (spit) Palinbots are still waiting for god to push their candidate into the race for presidency -now isn't that delusional to you??
DeleteAnd isn't there more banning of anti-Palin comments at the c4p site, so that only pro-Palin comments are allowed to display?
DeleteNice word salad Sarah but as usual you make no sense. Keep trying.
DeleteHow do you know what his emails say?
DeleteIs this comment suppose to be a joke.."more decency at C4P"..remember when Ram was there, the nastiest group of people, going after everyone with your nasty vendetta for your idol. "Less delusion" your the one's who said she was Iconic, Queene Ester, the Saviour..now who's delusional???
DeleteHAHHAHAHAHHAHA..and yet, here you are, lacking honesty and civility.
DeleteThey don't just remove the anti-Palin comments over at C4P, they ban people from the site immediately. Talk about censorship and bias. I wonder if the site will go empty once SarahPAC money dries up.
DeleteAnonymousMar 9, 2012 06:06 AM
DeleteSure RAM...whatever you say! I know you have to defend your fellow patients at "Crazies4Palin" since you are the one who introduce them to that Insane Clown Woman...as far as whatever else you said.....GIBBERISH...pure gibberish.
So maybe you need to get some rest...because this weekend is going to be VERY stressful for your crazy ass bald headed boss!
Good luck..you're going to need it!
. . . . .And yet your comments actually appear here. Someone opposing Sarah at the crazy's site---not so much.
DeleteI've often thought the C4P is probably populated by a handful of real posters (who will always love Sarah Palin), and a bunch of bots whose job it is to post nice things she can read. Basically they knew of Ms. Palin's love (or obsession) for reading blogs and they made one that would make her feel nice when she read it, as opposed to most of the newspaper comment sites and other more reality-based blogs.
DeleteROFL, Once I waded through your terrible grammar and abuse of the English language, I laughed hysterically. No one can take you seriously because you are illiterate!
DeleteRAM can't be the ones writing these troll messages. Yes she is an angry, sad young woman, but she can write. I will give her that. The troll that is obsessed with this blog writes at a 3rd grade level, but uses a Thesaurus to add big words. She is so slow, she thinks she can trick us into believing she is bright. It is clear that she lives in a tiny little bubble, in some tiny tiny town and has never traveled anywhere or met people of different beliefs. Yes, our troll is the epitome of a misinformed, low information, home schooled voter.
Why do you assume I hate Sarah? I dislike her, I do not respect her, I think she is a poor excuse for a mother and grandmother, I think she is a poor excuse for a wife, apolitician and just as a person in general. But I do not "hate" her, but your 3rd grade vocab certainly labels YOU as an undereducated fool.
DeleteI do not think it is RAM. It is someone illiterate. RAM isn't that. It is more likely April M or one of the Palin relatives. Someone who doesn't have a grasp of the English language... They are also sick in the head. Very obsessive and mentally ill. Their constant repeating of the same illiterate, ignorant statements proves this. If you put this person's posts in one place, they are all alike. It is a very disturbed obsessive illiterate person.
DeleteMy guess is it's Meg Stapletongue, rising from the grave.
Delete'''but then Julianne Moore has repeatedly stated that she felt sympathy for the person who was asked to portray'''
ReplyDeleteIMO, this is my Moore should not have played the part. They should have chosen Tina Faye.
Moore acts like she is a wannabe girlfriend of Palin's.
AnonymousMar 9, 2012 06:06 AM
DeleteIMO, this is my Moore should not have played the part. They should have chosen Tina Faye.
Moore acts like she is a wannabe girlfriend of Palin's.
That's Tina FEY...and maybe you should wait and watch it first before you go with the "wannabe girlfriend of Palin's" angle.
What I found most enlightening of all the run up to "Game Change" interviews was the comment by the director last night on Lawrence O'Donnell that additional scenes not in the book are in the movie.
ReplyDeleteI'm wondering if that is what has $carah most scared, and that aligns with the well she could have already sued comments, book has been out for years...the unknown is coming
Klondike Kardashian & her ilk had not seen the movie prior to their hate filled spew.
DeleteIf she was not such a narcissist - she could have said NO to McCain & his staff knowing she was massively mentally challenged. She believed her looks were sufficient but as we all know -- time is not your friend as we watch the 'Hag Sag' has set in.
Truth is Palin propelled the ticket to first place up until the markets crashed. Without McCain's reaction to that and the actual event, they would have won. I would bet my first born on it.
ReplyDeleteIn the last 3-4 years, we've seen a gradually growing economy, something that would have happened despite who took office in Jan 2009. No decisions that this admis has made impacted the economy in that way. There's been no focus on it.
Sure he bailed out unions without giving them a spanking. Sure he fails to hold union leaders and his wall street friends accountable, for the most part. People forget how Obama really is ineffectual and dividing when they choose to obsess over things that do not matter. The more personal attacks our candidates receive, the more we stray from the hope that one day this can be a respectable society again. The downfall started early in the century and will continue without honest, intelligent, moral, responsible leaders. I see none so far who have national recognition.
Despite what liberal filmmakers wish to convey to the masses, Palin didn't begin the war. Only historically ignorant people believe that. She's the perfect scapegoat because she obviously doesn't care what her haters think. She knows the truth. Her friends know the truth. Her faily knows the truth. And they all stand behind her.
Awhile back, I read the article about how Obama is an island, how he really has no close advisors and drifts through his job alone. (will find) The same cannot be said for Sarah Palin.
Don't you get it? Nothing you say matters Sarah. President Barack Obama will be re-elected and there is nothing you can say or do to stop it. But keep being our puppet as it provides endless amounts of entertainment.
DeleteYou would have lost your first born. As Dunn said, this country was tired and broke behind a republican leader and wanted change. History shows the country financially suffers under republican rule, mostly due to war and bad policies. Palin is a coward and a fraud. This is fact. Judge her by her actions and what she says. The two don't coincide.
DeleteI agree with your last sentence. Sarah is required to have "advisors" around her constantly because she cannot do anything on her own. Look up the definition: "An advisor is normally a person with more and deeper knowledge." Exactly. Well said.
DeleteYou just proved that our President is so intelligent that he can make hard decisions on his own without a meltdown. That says a lot. Sarah still has a staff of what? 20? For what, exactly? She cannot do her job reading outloud at fox without them????
Oh, Man, I hope you don't have children
DeleteSarah Palin sunk that ticket even further than it was already sinking. Everybody knows that.
Your comment is laughable. We are all laughing at you.
PLEASE STOP SMOKING SO MUCH CRACK!
Deleteits eating away at whats left of your brain.
So why didn't her political career take off? Other than a few speaking engagements and periodic FOX appearances, she's not relevant in the political arena.
DeleteWow, really been drinking that koolaid today, huh troll? So no decisions by the administration have impacted the economy you say? How about rescuing the auto industry? Good thing you'll never have to be taken up on your bet - certainly McCain's reaction to the market crash didn't help, but c'mon - Sarah's exposed word salad brain 'in what respect Charlie, I read all of them any of them, not knowing the actual role of the VP, the "Sarkosy" radio call, the list goes on and on and on. The woman is an abject moron.
DeletePretty obvious you are full of shit!
DeleteSarah needs Obama to win, how else is her hateful money making scam going to work?? With Republican President she is done, she will have on one the bash and bitch about on Fox.
DeleteGot the 'newness' bump for about 2 weeks from scripted speeches then you tanked -- just like the 'Hag Sag' you're suffering now
DeleteMY GOODNESS! Did you get ANY sleep??? Why are you going on and on about shit you don't know anything about troll!
DeleteBaldy Palin is OVER...DONE...TOAST...screwed the pooch! "Game Change" is as Gryphen said "MUST SEE TV"...so I MUST watch this and so will most everyone else including Baldy! So....
Fuck off already!
Sarah needs close advisors as she drifts through jobs since she is incapable to do them alone. She hires people to do her work and to write up what to say or submit as op-eds. She's a figurehead or a title, not a worker. She's all image.
DeleteThe reel Sarah is an island. She's alone in her room, curled up in the fetal position, and stunned by God's will.
Sarah is the ultimate hater.
DeleteLOL. Bailed out unions?? No, this did not happen. You are so stupid it hurts to read what you write.
DeleteAwhile back, I read the article about how Obama is an island, how he really has no close advisors and drifts through his job alone. (will find) The same cannot be said for Sarah Palin.
Delete$arah uses her CHILDREN as shields!
$arah hopes people won't boo her kids if they're standing with her.
It's obvious by their acting-out behavior that those kids have been p$ychologically abused.
Geez RAM, does Sarah let you lick it? what blinds you so much?
DeleteRe: Palin as a fraud including orchestrating her popularity I remembered this morning the organizations that just happened to pop up for her speaking engagements then ceased to exist.
ReplyDeleteIt is clear that Palin does not chose to build her credibility or self improve. Her personality lives to destroy the credibility, decency, morals, character, lives of others. She is a convincing liar. Anyone who does not agree to lie, do her and Todd's dirty work, or raises objection to her tactics will become targets of revenge.
The consistent mirroring (projection) IMO pathalogical lying is crucial to the personality disordered's existence.
Well said.
DeleteEnjoyable interview. Thanks, gentlemen.
ReplyDeletePalin has over exposed herself in all venues of media that people have seen that she is just an ugly, nasty person. All the pushback has only heightened how mentelly she is.
ReplyDeleteHer enablers have also been exposed. People see her greed and manipulations and are revolted. She has not done anything to improve her knowledge and The Palins grifting has turned off a lot of people.
We must never forget that Mccain forced her on us and together with all his people did nothing to stop her racist, divisive rantings.
Sarah has been her own worst enemy and she will forever live in a hell of her own creation.
Boy I like this guy. Got his book on Palin as soon as it came out - great read considering the subject. Fervently hope (pray, wish) that "Game Change" is instrumental in putting permanent skids to Palin's game. I am an Alaskan of many decades - Palin and her camp sicken me to my core. Tis true we are done with her. Went to a recent "Capitol Steps" performance at the Atwood Theater. When one of the performers came out as Palin the entire audience (and it was a full house) responded with clapping, whistles, and whoops when the actress said "I know I'm not your governor anymore". Yes, we are done - be gone bitch!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed this interview too. Read his book on Palin which was outstanding.
DeleteI can't wait.
ReplyDeleteGreat interview!! At the end of Morning Joe the other day, they had Steve and Nicole on and played that clip from the movie about what questions Steve asked her. Joe asked what happened with the vetting. Steve said they vetted her, but did a very poor job. And Nicole looks up at him and says, "They thought she was pret-ty," in a teasing voice. The way she said it was very funny to me, but probably true. The men seemed to give her a pass because she looked good. Nicole saw through all that immediately. Too bad Nicole didn't do the vetting. Then on Ed last night, he had Nicole on and he said Nicole couldn't even bring herself to vote for them. I'm curious if they put in the movie their plans to fire Sarah if they won.
ReplyDeleteI don't have HBO, is there a way to purchase a viewing of it through HBO without a subscription?
Towards the end of the campaign, I think McCain lost his enthusiasm for winning when he found out what a terrible mistake they mad in choosing that deranged women.
DeleteIt's on Pay Per View on Monday, 3.12.12
DeleteThanks for this, both of you. It has occurred to me that when she gets asked if she will run for anything it is because there are people who want to know if she'll be around to keep the political joke that is Sarah Palin, going. But she and her tiny (yes it is TINY) following are dumb and deluded enough to think it's because she's viewed as a capable, qualified candidate.
ReplyDeleteI think we all check into IM with the hopes that one day we will see...."News sweeps the country that Sarah and Todd Palin, not the birth parents of Trig (at least not Sarah), found guilty of running a prostitute ring, tax evasion, ethics violations and other illicit activities." I don't know if that will happen to our complete satisfaction any time soon or ever, but seeing the way things have played out has been incrementally satisfactory and I am hoping that we are close to her virtual disappearance from anything mainstream. It may take years before the full story is told but at least we know that she will only be remembered as the punch-line that scammed the country and the most poorly vetted VP candidate EVER. She doesn't have the constitution to be anything but that. She is literally laughing stock. I don't care how much money she has. In the public's eyes she's a dunce and in the 3 plus years of national exposure she's solidified that almost every time she's opened her mouth.
I have a hunch that the Palins will run out of money OR one of them is going to have to become employed for which I think both will be screwed! The oil industry won't take Todd back because of his disclosure of information. Sarah would be fired within 90 days in the private sector. They'll have to become self employed in some manner. OR, they could end up in jail as is indicated in the above commentary.

DeleteI agree with everything you say AND feel like the GOP's deliberate know-nothing direction with Palin "energizing that base" so well, small as that hard-core base may be, is still very very dangerous.
DeleteThe combination of:
-- future dirty tricks funded by endless wealthy donors
-- voter restrictions on the books already and growing
-- and naked voter fraud in some key areas
can still end up winning the election for the GOP, esp in the wild-card world of a possible third candidate. We have thought all along that SP and her ilk will be toast any minute, and they have survived. Yes this movie will be a big blow, but people who discount the movement SP represents underestimate its success to date. Like in pre-Hitler Germany. I point to the huge and continuing redistribution of wealth that is beyond our ability to fix any time soon, with its enormous consequences.
THAT is why I believe exposing the hoax is important: we must not think the bankruptcy of the Palin campaign will go away easily all of a sudden. It has persisted in spite of everything for way longer than anyone like me ever thought possible.
Come on, G-man and Dunn: step up to the plate. Please!!

Well remember, Tawdry can always resort to moon-lighting in Anchorage.
Gosh Ol' $cary, I'm not sure what to call you anymore:
- can't be Gov, since you never completed your term but instead quit your term half-way through
- can't call you Mayor since you couldn't handle the responsibilities and had to hire a City Manager to do your job
- guess that leaves the title of Mrs. Pimp, you know in honour of your husband's predilections.
...we all check into IM with the hopes that one day we will see...."News sweeps the country that Sarah and Todd Palin, not the birth parents of Trig (at least not Sarah), found guilty of running a prostitute ring, tax evasion, ethics violations and other illicit activities."...
Deletethat is my hope (but not holding my breath) and one of the reasons I pop in to read IM a couple times a day - but there are lots of reasons for popping in to IM - the writing is well done, Palan and Alaskan tidbits can't find any where else, the occassional non Palin topic that is also interesting, inspiring, and-or informative.
i'll have to wait until it comes out on DVD. SP was definitely ramped up on Hannity last night. Lots of spitting and hissing. it will be fascinating to see how she handles the reviews and fallout after the movie airs. We might just see another meltdown
ReplyDeleteSheesh
But I thought she was supposed to be ambivalent. Wha' happon?
DeleteNo wonder the SarahPAC people are protesting this. They may be out of a job soon.
ReplyDeleteFor all the sympathy the pundits are spouting about Palin being thrown into this, I so wish someone would grow a 'set' and just say -- When asked, she could have said NO.
ReplyDeleteBut then pops quicklyu back at me the fact she's narcissistic and therefore that would never happen.
Not only "could have" but "should have." Her family should have come first but it obviously came last.
DeleteBeaglemom
Blinkin' is hard! It's much easier to say, "Yes, I'm ready to be the president of the United States of America." Also, too, they'll put me on the tee vee!
DeleteExcellent interview, Gryphen. Thank you very much.
ReplyDeleteGryphen,
ReplyDeleteThanks for including the question and link about Mr. Dunn's daughter, Tess. What a fabulous young woman! Smart, Obviously talented, motivated, good head on her shoulders.
You know, everything Snowbilly Snookie's children aren't.

Our puppet is here and spewing her delusions again. She can't go a day without commenting here. We really do own her.
ReplyDeleteGood interview. Reading the comments, I'm surprised at home many Palin supporters are reading this.
ReplyDeleteWatching Morning Joe today, Joe was saying many nice comments about Palin. That she was thrown in the ring with only 5 days to prepare. They made several comments that the movie was favorable to her.
Perhaps I am an enigma for U and U believe most people would have prepared. It makes no sense to me to say you want a job, know you are under consideration and not prepare.
DeleteMore important is the question have we seen a new informed, knoweledgeable Palin? No.
End of story. Her rogue way was easy money, gain adoration via DWTS, SPA, and books. Teaching rill Amerikans 'bout Paul Revere. She could not even grasp Revere's ride. She belongs on tv.
I also watched "Morning Joe" today and I was appalled at the reaction to seeing the movie yesterday. Joe said that Palin was "superhuman" in surviving the campaign ordeals. He acknowledged that she was unprepared, but minimized that (pretty condescendingly, actually) and emphasized her "grit and determination" to get through it no matter what. (I call that a huge ego). He did say "she could have said no," but then quickly moved on. Oh, he also said that she was a good governor and "didn't know what she didn't know" before accepting the VP bid. It was nauseating. It seems clear that people who already like her will see what they want in the film and those who don't like her will see her glaring failings.

Wow, someone is sure earning their SarahPAC money. Lots of posts here this morning from someone desperate to keep their job. Hates this blog, yet takes the time to post multiple, desperate denials of reality. The economy had tanked before he picked her. Once people knew who she really was, ran far away from the ticket. She lost it for McCain. Face it. You might want to find another job soon. I doubt SarahPAC will have enough to keep you on.
ReplyDeleteGryphen.. please ask Dunn if anyone has ever spoke about McCain's reaction when the fake Sarkozy hit the news.
ReplyDeleteMcCain and his staff must have been cringing when Sarah got punked by the DJ's. How many curse words flew that day?
Bet McCain called her and said, "Jesus fucking Christ, how fucking dumb are you?"
Why did Bristol name her son after Shailey? That's weird. Did Levi trick her into it after he saw Todd leaving out the back of the "massage shop"? Signs point to yes.
ReplyDeletewhen the little trig was born they told the local news his name was going to be Tripp then changed it to Trig, at first it was going to be Tripp Paxon Van Palin. All very strange at any rate.
Delete1 Day Left!! I'm really excited! Stocking up on soda and snacks and having a viewing party with some friends. It's going to be great!

Terrific interview! Dunne really is a champ. I am eager to read his forthcoming pieces. Thank you for posting this.
ReplyDeleteBut G-man: surely you discussed the hoax with Dunn? Does this interview tell us that no one will ever touch the hoax? That all our research was for nothing? The hoax just symbolizes all the rest SO WELL that I hate to see it remain buried. Please give us a status report on the hoax, incl your take on the Fred/Audrey effect on it. Mar 10 is a perfect time. I guess after that, all will be over with the hoax intact.
Gryphen, so appreciated that you shared your interview with Mr. Dunn and was glad to learn his assessment of the film.
ReplyDeleteI hope the movie includes Nicole Wallace's admission (on The Last Word) that she could not bring herself to vote in the 2008 presidential election. Nicole could NOT vote for Palin.
That is a very small amount of sweet justice for the horror of Palin that they unleashed upon the American public.
Did you watch that interview (The Last Word)? The whole point was that it's in the movie and wasn't in the book. Wallace didn't tell the authors of the book about it but did tell the people who interviewed her for the movie version.
DeleteWhen O'Donnell asked Wallace about it, though, she skirted the subject. Coward.
Thank you for clarifying Nicole's comment for me. When I watched Lawrence's show I took it just the reverse, that Nicole's no-vote was mentioned in the book but not in the movie.
DeleteThe movie will be well worth it just for that "slap in the face" to Palin.
Hey Sarah: Where's the birth certificate?
ReplyDeleteGreat interview - thank you both for the time and effort to share the review with us. Have my popcorn ready and can hardly wait until tomorrow! Any one live blogging about it or tweeting while watching?
ReplyDeleteI will keep IM up on my laptop in case I just can't contain myself and need to share a reaction in comments while watching.
If Bristol wasn't such a doormat she would tell the truth about Tri-G. But she can't because she's Sarah's puppet. She has no mind of her own. How sad and pathetic.
ReplyDeleteThis is so true. She would be set for life financially and could separate from her toxic mother. But they have such a sick symbiotic relationship, that will never happen.
DeleteI know some of you despise Bristol. But I feel sorry for anyone with such sick, narcissistic parents. I hope that Bristol is smart enough to seek out serious therapy and can separate from her mother. It is very difficult to do.
Bristol - read Alice Miller's book - the Drama of the Gifted Child. The previous title is and should have stayed Children of Narcissistic parents.

hey..breitdead??...did your tape bring down the president yet??
see? Thats The Point!!
BWAHHAHAHHAHAHAAHA
I heard Sarah was about to burst into tears on Hannity last night! She was more unhinged and deranged than usual. I wonder what got her so wee-wee'd up?
ReplyDeleteMovie needs a scene showing Todd sniffing used panties.
ReplyDeleteBristol ... you ever catch your dad smelling panties in the laundry room?
But Moore captures Palin for what you and I know her to be—a dysfunctional, mean-spirited woman driven by anger and revenge who is out only for herself. That is the ultimate portrait of Sarah Palin that emerges from Game Change . It’s devastating.
ReplyDeleteThis quote from IM sums up Sarah and "Game Change." Watching Sarah on Fox, her wig slapped on her head, wearing a Jewish star instead of her cross, I knew that I was watching a person with serious mental problems. Her anger has grown in the past three years and is destroying her. It shows every time Sarah appears on TV.
Wish I had HBO. Rats.
ReplyDeleteIt is Todd's fault McCain lost...
ReplyDeleteIf Todd had won the Iron dog a few more times, McCain would have won in a landslide.
I hear Todd's new email address is FeK9loser@yahoo.con
Tomorrow!

I love ya~ Tomorrow!
You're only a day ~ away!!!!!
=)
Gee!!!!
(Although I have to watch it on Pay Per View on Monday, but that's okay with me! )
If Sarah only cared about Sarah, she would have run for President. She has the "balls". Funny how people who are actually around her everyday don't have negative words for her. Those only come from people who don't know her.
ReplyDeleteShe will never run for president because she is a coward with TOO MANY SECRETS to hide and she can't take the criticism. She will never be as brave and strong as President Obama. Just accept it and move on.
DeleteNope. She doesn't have "balls". Saying she didn't keep running (she DID run, last summer) because of her family was really her way of dropping out so she wouldn't get trounced, as was obviously going to happen if she kept at it. BTW, Sarah does have blind ambition, which is not the same as "balls".
DeleteI thought those were Todd's ball in her purse.
DeleteIf she couldn't make it through a VP campaign without going batshitcrazy how in the hell was she going to run for President? The people around her everyday are family or being paid by her.
Catch Sarah's balls! Catch 'em! Good enabler! Good boy! Tired? It's ok, you can quit like Sarah. Now, go lie down on your blanket of delusion.
DeleteI think that the people who know Sarah the least are her own family. Or is everyone OK with faking pregnancies and birth dates, extensive drug use, and Dad's prostitute? Few people share their skeletons and unethical behavior with their families and families who do, learn to accept it. Poor decisions do happen but that doesn't mean that they are forgotten or excusable.
Delete@7:30 Funny how you still think anyone here believes anything you say. Sarah is a sociopathic nutcase. The only people who don't "have negative words for her" (Where did you learn to speak? In Casa Palin?) are on her payroll. Funny how you seem to have lots of "negative words" for our President, whom you have never met.
DeleteReally? Your statement only PROVES to us that you really do not know much at all. Your statement is 100% FALSE.
DeleteThen you are all a bunch of dimwit crooks.
DeleteBecause the people around her everyday are PAID to hide the truth. Duh.
DeleteAnonymousMar 9, 2012 07:30 AM
DeleteBWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA....OMGoodness....thank you for the morning laugh...almost as good as doing some jumping jacks!
Baldy and "balls" is not a good image troll! YOU ARE NOT HELPING! Baldy can't run for "President" of ANYTHING!
Your continued delusion is not healthy. Baldy is an INTERNATIONAL JOKE! If she ever attempted to push her mannish face into the politcal arena again....the REPUBS will take her out!
So go ahead and spew your fantasies..but make sure you are watching "Game Change" on HBO tomorrow...you're going to LOVE it!
Be there or be square troll!
I dunno, Gryphen, it just doesnt seem right for this Dunn fella to be bashing someone he doesnt know personally...
ReplyDeleteHe really should spend some time getting to know The Screechy Wretch(tm) as a person and not just a political caricature. If he could just sit down with her and talk, maybe go for a long walk or go fishing on a quiet lake together... find out her dreams, her plans for the future, her likes, dislikes, what kind of food she likes, what makes her smile and what makes her frown, it could change the whole level of public discourse about this controversial figure.
You understand what I'm saying? Get to know the REAL Granny Lou before making these outlandish negative statements about her. Is that too much to ask?
And after he gets to know her personally and uses language like "a dysfunctional, mean-spirited woman driven by anger and revenge who is out only for herself" to describe her, even Screechy herself can laugh out loud and say "yep, that's me, all right!"
Julianne Moore At 'Game Change' Premiere (VIDEO)
ReplyDeletehttp://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/03/08/julianne-moore-game-change-premiere_n_1333758.html
Quick questions:
ReplyDeleteHow does Sarah like Shailey's book? Does she ever think about what her family was doing while she was busy playing politics and absorbed in her own activities? Does she ever think that maybe she should have made better arrangements, that she and Todd have failed at being a family, why God opened doors that led her husband to a prostitute, her daughter to pre-marital sex and her first born away from them? Why she didn't prepare her teenage daughter for preventing an unwanted pregnancy? How and what she and Todd should have done to prevent that? What would she do differently? Is she to blame for anything?
What makes you think Sarah wasn't in tune with her family? There's quite a bit of evidence that contradicts this. What does "failed at being a family" even mean? They are a unit of love and support and togetherness. FACT. You speak from a place of ignorance. Are you even a parent? If no, then why are you speaking about these things? This comment has the potential to offend millions of people.
DeleteHer three oldest children have all been in trouble with the law. None of them earned (or will earn) a traditional high school diploma. None of them pursued (or will pursue) a traditional higher education. None of them value education, something they learned from their parents.
DeleteHer youngest daughter is desperate for attention and has aggressive tendencies.
At one point or another, all the kids have been either kicked out or pushed out of the house to be raised for a time by other people.
None of the kids are monitored by their parents as evidence by the trouble they get into.
Her husband pays prostitutes for sex and is a pimp.
I have children. I also have parents who monitored me, cared for me (physically as well as emotionally), and encouraged my education.
You've written before that the kids are "independent."
Well, as a parent, I know that "independent" in the Palins' case is short hand for "lazy, self-centered parents."
"They are a unit of love "
Delete"speak from a place of ignorance."
ROFL. There you go again racist troll, pretending you're smart. Nothing is funnier than reading an idiot pretend they're smart. Thanks. I'm adding this to my list of "palinisms" along with "people are people" and "baby-obsessed bristol".
Thanks for the laugh TROLL.
Millions of people ?? ROFL ! A unit of love, support and togetherness!? You are DELUSIONAL. FACT! Another fact is that you are clueless about what real family togetherness is. So sad. A narcissist is not capable of being a good parent. And either is a pimp.
DeleteI am the parent of two lovely teenagers. What millions are offended by questioning someone's parenting? Bad parents do exist. If someone asked me whether I was at peace with the way I raised my kids, I wouldn't be offended and I'd be happy to give my thoughts on parenting.
Delete1) Track cut the brake lines on school buses
Delete2) Bristol preggers at least once
3) Willow guilty of breaking and entering, and trashing someone's house
Doesn't sound to me like these kids had a mother who was "in tune" to their activities. Unless Sarah just didn't give a crap.
Hmmm. The pushback here is quite interesting; certain obvious key players (and their associates) are clearly very nervous about this film, but I perceive what appears to be a "wider" concern surfacing in these comments. It's as if the GOP has specifically appointed/hired people to come round and discredit the notion that the Republican party bears a huge portion of the blame for foisting this woman onto the national stage. We have been stuck with her ever since, and to our very decided detriment.
ReplyDeleteThe critical errors committed by Sarah Palin during the end of the 2008 campaign did major damage to McCain's chances, so no one can convince me that the GOP had any real chance of winning in the end, in spite of the outrageously reckless chance-taking that led to her VP nomination in the first place. She exposed her lack of qualification and knowledge time and again, as we all saw. Compare that with the years of on-the-ground experience of Joseph Biden - no contest. (Even though he puts his foot in his mouth sometimes, which has nothing to do with his unquestionable level of experience and understanding of extremely complex issues.)
I tried to post a similar comment here yesterday, but I don't think it went through, for whatever reason: The Time review of Game Change, by a James Poniewozik, demonstrates the disturbing "misunderstanding" re the basic facts, among MSM writers/journalists, when it comes to the Palin pick. He seems to believe she was selected suddenly and out of nowhere, when nothing could be further from the truth.
Is he truly this poorly informed, or is he pushing a conventional narrative because the deeper implications of this tale are potentially explosive? I can only think once this movie gets out there, the next step will be a deeper examination of the lead-up to the McCain/Palin ticket, something that in actuality was years in the making. It's scary stuff, indeed, and they need to be held accountable for trying to put their pretty puppet in the White House so they could control world affairs from behind the scenes. They probably dreamed she'd be able to run for the Presidency after one or two McCain terms. What a nightmare that would have been, for the country and for the world.
She is a charismatic and dangerous person who has shown that she has a deeply flawed moral core, if she has one at all.
Maybe McCain figured out that if he had won, Sarah already had plans for the newly elected president's untimely demise.
ReplyDeleteSarah Palin Throws Brokered Convention Threat at Mitt Romney
ReplyDeleteOh boy. Sarah Palin is at it again. Yes, she’s flirting with the disaffected Tea Party base and brokered conventions while baring her mama grizzly teeth at poor Mitt Romney. She’s not closing any doors, no matter how much the Republican Party wishes she would.
Ms Palin told CNN yesterday that she isn’t ruling out a run in 2012, “Anything is possible. I don’t close any doors that perhaps would be open out there, so no, I wouldn’t close that door. My plan is to be at that convention.”
http://www.politicususa.com/sarah-palin-brokered-convention-threat-at-mitt-romney/
Shailey Tripp's book has closed the door on Sarah running anything.
DeleteGreat interview!
ReplyDeleteI so wish there were more like Geoffrey Dunn who would stand up to this woman. Why don't elected Democrat representatives ever speak out about Sarah's untrue attacks and unfair criticisms of President Obama and his policies. They speak out against Rush Limbaugh, but Sarah's tongue is just as sharp and we hear crickets.
I was thinking about Hillary Clinton, who went through more than Sarah could ever have during her husband's scandal in the White House. As humiliating as that was, she acted like a strong individual and didn't engage with critics. If that had been Sarah? She would have created a media war, and had the whole administration in turmoil. Hillary, through it all, acted like a real lady.
So many others who've had to endure the humiliation during their tenures and didn't have a 'bully entourage' sending them crazy emails and threats. Only in SP's world, has this happened. This explains why she is out of her mind.
You should have seen and heard the things they said about Hillary when she was Arkansas' first lady.
DeleteI do think one of our resident Trolls is RAM. The other ones (the ones that come out to bash Levi and Mercede and scold us for criticizing Jeremy Morlock) are Bristol, filthy-mouthed Willow, and probably April Morlock.
ReplyDeleteBecky Mansour is doing penance for the nasty things she wrote about Bristol.
Remember Mudflats outed the troll as posting from Michigan. Isn't Becky from Michigan?
Oh, Becky, were you exiled, forced to do 50 Hail Marys for your sins against the Palins?
Sarah's never sworn at President Obama. She's never attacked him personally. She's never called him names. She's never spread lies about him. She has only said what other's more connected to DC have hypothesized about him, his election and his goals. Nothing is randomly spoken or attributed to him. Everything has research behind it and evidence in his or another's words. Most have come true or will come true when things begin to take effect.
ReplyDeleteRemember, most of what Obama has done in office hasn't taken full effect yet so it's impossible that any even slight change in status quo is because of him. That's just common sense.
Now back to my point. I've never heard one hateful word from a republican about Obama the MAN. All criticism is directed toward his decisions and past professional experience (what exists of it).
I cannot say the thing about democrats, who constantly throw out personal attacks as their only ammunition in political races. I hear the harshest words and most offensive sentiments from democrats at all social levels.
If you see nothing wrong with people like Maher, you are just a despicable human being. I'm sorry to say that about anyone, there's a reason I've never met anyone who respects Bill Maher. And I am frequently in urban, liberal environments.
Well, now that you've gotten that nonsense out, you can ponder it while watching Game Change (or, gasp, read the book) because you need a wake up call very badly.
DeleteAnd watch out when you are in urban, liberal environments. Thinking for yourself is contagious.
The delusion is strong in this one, Master Yoda!
DeleteThis is 100% crap. Never spread lies about President Obama?????????????????? I mean, you have to have a wall a mile thick around your brain. Just go away, please.
DeleteAnd the President has never sworn at Sarah Palin, in fact he barely pays attention to her, so limited is her importance. She is loud and angry, but only her narrow group of fans have any appetite for, or interest in, her comments.
DeleteRepublicans have been responsible for the most reprehensible ads and emails and disgusting racist insinuations about our President, as a matter of fact. If you need us to collect the examples, we will.
Great you get around and risk coming in to contact with "liberal, urban environments". That's actually rather amusing, as the two are not synonymous - though this points to a clear bias on your part. Thanks for demonstrating why the GOP is so completely out of touch.
PS If you aren't following - cities have plenty of conservative, pro-business people living and working in the very "urban environments" you mention. Think Donald Trump, if that helps ;-).
You are delusional. Enjoy!
Delete" I've never heard one hateful word from a republican about Obama the MAN. "
DeleteI stopped reading your comment at this point. You are obviously delusional or just totally ignorant. Have you not been paying attention in the last 4 years? The republicans can't stand the fact President Obama is half-black. They are racists. It's as simple as that!
Palin should consider herself among the very fortunate because babygate is not part of Game Change. It actually helps solidify her lie as truth. She is not Trig's bio mother and that will be made public at some point. But for now, bitch should be thankful she's getting away with it, again. Not forever. Not forever.
DeleteThere you go again. Why do you bots feel the need to constantly equate sarah with anyone and everyone? Maher is a loudmouthed entertainer who called another loudmouthed entertainer a four letter word. He was widely criticized at the time. Limbaugh is the de facto head of the Republican party who spent three days lying about and smearing the sexuality of a young private citizen who testified before Congress, and by extension attacked any woman who ever used birth control. Rather than criticize him, Republican politicians and Pox News echoed and amplified his lies and smears. If you don't see the difference, you need to go back to school and learn how to think straight.
DeleteAs for your ridiculous assertions about our President, you are too ignorant to even begin to educate.
Sad, sad, overgeneralizing moron. Former politician Sarah never shuts the fuck up about her obsession, President Obama. I bet seeing the young, confident, handsome, and just plain hawt appearance he made in that old Harvard video has really ramped up her envy and sexual frustration. Also, too, when you venture out into the scary urban, liberal environments, you walk around soliciting opinions about Bill Maher? Really. I can't say that I have ever heard anyone randomly discussing Bill Maher in public in my entire life, but maybe I just haven't been anywhere scary and/or urban enough.
DeleteAs a fellow conservative, you're deluded big time. Seems everything is either black or white to you. You and your ilk are ruining the GOP by not seeing at least two sides to issues. Unwilling to compromise. Thanks for nothing.
DeleteHit the road.....OMG... delusional much?
Deletethat woman is a C --with a capital C-- and don't ever forget it.
you too RAM, Bristol and the rest of you nutballs.
"And I am frequently in urban, liberal environments."
Delete= Dog whistle for "scary black people". Yep it's our racist troll.
Not to put too fine a point on it but, you are a fucking moron. Your statement "I've never heard one hateful word from a republican about Obama the MAN," pegs you as either a congenital moron or a goddamn liar. I suppose you could easily be both.
DeleteHere are SEVERAL attacks on President Obama the man, and NOT "his decisions and past professional experience":
- the birther attacks on the legitimacy of President Obama's citizenship
- the constant meme that President Obama is a socialist
- the occasional meme that President Obama is a communist
- the comparisons of President Obama with Hitler
- the constant attempts to hold President Obama responsible for the words of his former pastor
- the incessant attempt to link President Obama to William Ayers
- the incessant attempt to ling President Obama to Saul Alinsky
- the insanely idiotic bullshit meme that President Obama is planning to unleash FEMA/ACORN concentration camps upon America
NONE of the above bullshit is based upon President Obama's "decisions and past professional experience" but on hyperbolic, febrile delusions that are prompted by racial animus.
Please, Google "palin's lies about obama" and feast your eyes upon the cornucopian of mendacious sewage that has erupted directly from the fetid and festering piehole of Sarah Palin herself and then tell me how Palin has "never attacked [President Obama] personally."
Your remark "I've never met anyone who respects Bill Maher. And I am frequently in urban, liberal environments," rings so laughably false that it exposes your fraud. I'm more liberal than anybody you've ever met. I AM a socialist and I'VE NEVER HEARD those sentiments about Maher uttered by ANY liberal and I guarantee that I hang around with FAR GREATER quantity of liberals than you do.
The problem with teabagging buffoons like you is that since you congregate exclusively with those that are moribund, inbred, cousin humping imbeciles with more toes than teeth, you assume that everyone else does too. Thus, your intellectual standards are exceedingly low. In your case, "mental sloth" is not merely an adjective, but a descriptive noun.
Sarah, you are stuck at home afraid to even move around your own town. Todd is posting for locals to be nice and quit talking about the poor reality show family. This was not the result of a "servants heart",you are considered one of the dregs of society for your thoughtless actions then and especially now. Just go away gracefully and put down the backberry for one 24 hour period.
DeletePretty much everything that you are saying in this post is flat out lies. It's too exhausting to even begin to address this delusional post. Sarah should be thrown in jail for treason as far as I'm concerned. She has not ONLY attacked our President, but his wife and children and that is PERSONAL. As far as the rest of your delusions, I'll leave it to others on the blog to respond... GinaM...WE NEED YOU!
DeleteAll I can do is laugh at this. It is so ridiculous and so off base.... Listen to your fellow conservative at 8:32 am. And here is a message from another one, i.e. ME ! I am a college professor, conservative, with many bright liberal Democrat friends. We have great discussions and are dismayed at people with attitudes like yours. You are ruining the GOP and our country with your divisive, angry, polarizing and uninformed comments. Please, get some education.
DeleteWow.
DeleteThat's PRESIDENT Obama, to you.
And the garbage that is said about him, his wife and his children is appalling. And you know it.
Democrats are capitalized; not "democrat."
I'm writing from a hilly rural area, where we liberals are plentiful in the mountains.
I like cities, but I know there are like-minded people in the suburbs and little towns, too.
And Bill Maher? Nobody much watches him, and he's an "entertainer."
Rush Limbaugh has a big -- although not as big as has been reported -- daily pulpit from which to spew his hateful, nasty, evil thoughts and words. He's attacked our President and our First Lady numerous times.
It took you SEVEN whole entire full seconds, G?
ReplyDeleteBet it only took 3!
Nice interview, but please please remove Jeffrey's kids' names. We all know who we're dealing with, so just to be safe...
ReplyDeleteAs always, I am bouncing in my chair, waiting and watching Palin and her monkeys squirming and writhing in anxious fear as the movie date approaches.
ReplyDeleteMy real reason for commenting here is to congratulate Tess Dunn on her well-deserved success in her music, colleges and especially in coping with and overcoming the reality and stigma of cystic fibrosis to shine like the star she is so deservedly is destined to become. Congratulations, Tess! Go Girl Go! And Geoffrey, you should be so proud (I'm sure you are) your daughter will eclipse your notoriety. As the grandpa of a talented and rising musician (10 year old drummer/band leader) I'll be watching her rising star.
Waa, waa. Nobody's buying it, Becky.
ReplyDeleteI come here for insight into the liberal/progressive mind. I leave feeling sorry for the sane democrats out there. You should all be ashamed that you're so presumptuous and woefully judgmental and ignorant.
ReplyDeleteGo away dumb racist troll. No one cares what you say. You are an insignificant gnat.
DeleteYou do no such thing. Are all these comments in anticipation of IM being swamped by new readers in the very near future and these are Sarah's attempts to bandage her hemorrhaging image.
Deletethere you go...projecting again.
Deletego away!
-sheba
Methinks your mind was made up before you came here.
DeleteKeep your pity. You're going to need it for the Paylins and the rest of the pathetic GOP.
DeleteWoefully judgmental and ignorant? Are you kidding? What is wrong with you? Are you really so dense? You are an embarrassment to conservatives everywhere. What kind of idiot makes generalizations about people of ANY group based on the comment section of a personal blog??
DeleteIt sounds as if the movie does portray Sarah as ignorant and mean and vain, but they're still running with the whole loving wife and mother lie, and even in the reviews we're still reading about how "horrible" poor little Sarah was treated by the big bad press. The truth is, the only reason people are still able to talk about how "horrible" the press was to Sarah and how "hard" they were on her is because of Trig.
ReplyDeleteFor those who don't know the truth, the Trig Truth movement--and that brief window of a few hours at the beginning of the campaign when a few brave media personnel dared to question her ridiculous birth story--seems the height of indecency and character assassination. After all, what is more horrible than accusing a woman of not being the mother of her own baby? THIS is why exposing Babygate is so important, because as long as the Trig lie is perpetuated, Sarah is given a free pass on so much else; anyone who dares to criticize her is accused of being misogynistic, as if this ignorant, sleazy flirt is somehow a stand-in for the Virgin Mary, mothers, and women everywhere.
Nicole and Steve know that Sarah did not birth Trig, as do the McCains, and I've no doubt the Romney campaign, too (they would have done opposition research last year when she looked like she might still be a threat to Mittens). But no one has as yet had an incentive to leak the necessary proof.
Like a good little wannabe lap dog, Becky Mansour is trying to get back into the good graces of her master. Any ideas why Sarah Palin would want you posting anonymously on blogs instead of on the front line where you used to be, Becky?
ReplyDeleteHere's a fresh concept that democrats haven't considered. Why not choose not to judge people you've never met, therefore could never truthfully judge?
ReplyDeleteI know, it's a big one. Just take it in and let it mingle with all those hateful words you're dying to direct at me just because I posted something that is mature in thinking.
You're an idiot if you believe that "never met him so you can't judge him" bullshit. Only immature small minded low intelligence people believe that. Smart people are able to judge someone based on their words and actions without having met them. It's something people with a brain can actually do because they're you know....smart enough. But for know-nothings like you, its too much for your small feeble brain. By your own explanation you never met Hitler so you can't judge him. The troll thinks Hitler is a good person.
DeleteHere's a concept for you Einstein. Has it occurred to you that Palin is despised by Republicans and independents as well? This isn't some color war. This is an actual person who despite all emperical evidence to the contrary clings to the delusion that she is qualified to run the world. She's a phony, a fraud and a self-serving narcissist. She needs to go away. I hope that if she does make some sort of scene at the Republican convention that she is shamed and humiliated beyond all recognition. She needs to suffer the curses of Job.
DeleteWhy do I always get the feeling when I read the rehash of the same "hater" and "you don't know them" and "they are happy" comments, that it's written on days when Sarah is in a foul mood and her kids blame IM for that?
DeletePeople who are happy don't feel the need to convince others they are.
I think the critical line in this interview is something I've been thinking as well: the only thing keeping the Palin "brand" afloat is Fox. If they fail to renew her contract, she will finally disappear.
ReplyDelete...And we know she won't let THAT happen with or without Fox, so the fun will REALLY begin! What will it be? Mental breakdown? Vicious attack book? Attempt at a musical career? Talkshow on an Alaskan public access channel?
This movie might be the force that initiates political party campaigns to create strict vetting rules.
ReplyDeleteSarah's ability to waltz in and bewitch these guys so easily because of her looks, and sweet charm, and down home goodness is the reason they pushed her vetting process under the rug. Like men, they saw the outside and their brain shut off momentarily. They had themselves convinced that such a sweet woman COULDN'T have anything to hide.
So without placing blame on any one person, the SP saga was a one in a million event. All the ducks lined up. It appeared she was just "meant to be" at that moment. One questionable christian prophetic movement had her believing she was the chosen one. Then the kingmakers were drooling all over themselves to get a wink from her. One would expect this to happen in ancient times.
But in America? Where reason and intellectual freedom and the greatest learning institutions can be found, and in a new time where women are treated as equals in all affairs?
Everyone in their own little way were responsible for allowing this to happen. Every group was thinking of his/her own gain. Example, women's groups were going to have a woman VP=Woman Power. Family Values' Councils were high-fiving, thinking they had their woman who would support all their agendas. Messianic Jewish churches (not all) neded her. Christian evangelical churches needed her. The Down Syndrome, Disabled Children organizations needed her. Teen abstinence orgs needed her daughter Bristol as a spokesgirl. The Energy Commissions and and Oil Industry needed her. Even the liberal left felt she had a rogueness quality and might stand behind liberal interests. It was the perfect timing, the perfect recipe for a girl like Sarah, but thank God, one ingredient was missing. Truth.
How Makeup and Contact Lenses Turned Julianne Moore Into Sarah Palin
ReplyDeletehttp://stylenews.peoplestylewatch.com/2012/03/08/sarah-palin-movie-trailer-julianne-moore/
This is in response to another comment. Like Sarah and Bristol have both said. You give your child guidance andset them on a path (a path Bristol was doing just fine on) then along comes the obstacles and rebellion. One of the few truthful things Levi has said is that Bristol constantly talked about her parents and what they want. He said Bristol was often guided by her mom. I say, hasn't it done her well? I mean, she's happier now than all the reports we received then when people constantly said all Levi and Bristol do is fight and there's no harmony there. It's telling to me that the only true unhappy time in their lives was when Levi was in the picture, beginning in 2007. Stepping off the wrong path will do that.
ReplyDeleteYes we know you're still obsessed with Levi. You remind us everyday Bristol.
Delete"I say, hasn't it done her well?"
No. No it hasn't. Not at all. Unless you consider having no job, no life, no education and 2 or 3 young children all before the age of 21 doing "well". LOL.
You've got to be kidding. This is pathetic. Excuses, excuses... No accountability for their mistakes? Levi caused the only problems they ever had? A teenage kid? Who were the adults? Everything is always someone else's fault. We all know people like this. Whiners.
DeleteBristol is one of the most fucked up young woman I have ever seen. Happy my ASS. A happy, well adjusted 20 year old does not have multiple babies, multiple plastic surgeries and does not seek out reality shows. A teenager who is emotionally stable does not "crave babies." What a joke your comment is and really very irresponsible. If you love Bristol, tell her she needs psychological help and to get AWAY from Sarah.
DeleteIt is not healthy to live off the back of your young child. Bristol has been taking the easy way out since she gave birth to Tripp. Poor little boy has never been out of the public eye since birth and now he's the subject of his mother's reality tv show because without him, nobody would ever tune in.
DeleteAnd, to suggest that Levi was completely to blame for Bristol's diversion from her parent's so-called path is patently ridiculous. You've written here before that Bristol's life long dream (at 15!) was to have a baby. Was that the path the Palins set her on? Or perhaps Bristol was so short on character that she was easily swayed by your villain in this story, Levi. Was she so desperate for love and attention?
And now, Bristol's desperation for fame and attention(and quick, easy cash) falls on her young son.
She WISHES thoughts of her would keep him up at night, but it just isn't so. She is trying to find any way she can to interject herself in this latest media controversy and all she ends up doing is making an utter ass of herself and flirt with treason.
ReplyDeletePalin: I don't know how Obama can sleep at night with Maher's 'dirty money'

Gryphen,
ReplyDeleteCan you PLEASE make a POINT to let people know they can watch GAME CHANGE on Pay Per View on Monday? You don't have to BUY an HBO subscription.
Thanks!
If she uses "bodes well" improperly one more time, ack! Does she even check the definitions when she learns new phrases?
ReplyDeleteThis was an excellent interview... Please make sure Mr. Dunn knows how much your readers appreciate it as well. Kudos to you both.
ReplyDeleteAny chance of getting a comment or similar from Joe McGinniss (though I gather he is even more "sick" of Palin)?
Great interview! Thank you Geoffrey and Gryphen.
ReplyDeleteSchmidt, and somewhat less so with Wallace, have been rather slow to fully expose Palin. I think the reason is quite clear: to fully admit their willingness to put Palin within a 72 year old cancer survivor's heartbeat away from the presidency pegs them as unscrupulous Machiavellian hacks who place transient partisan gain ahead of concern for their country.
ReplyDeleteDunn is far more charitable toward Schmidt than I. Schmidt may have had a tiny wrestling match with his conscience about Palin as VP, but at the end of the day he was willing to put all that aside and work mightily to see that vapid peawit elected.
As for Davis and the others connected with the McCain campaign, I suspect the same. To admit their calumny in foisting petty, vindictive, imbecilic Palin upon the national stage, they must admit to either being congenitally stupid or utterly indifferent to the fate of our nation with Palin in office.
I still say, "fuck Steve Schmidt," and to that I'll add "and Nicole Wallace and Rick Davis too."
I'll respect them when they admit they were 100% wrong in working to get Palin elected and that their response should have been to resign from the campaign, expose the blackmailing of McCain by the fundagelicals, and publicly trumpet how feckless and incompetent Sarah Palin was/is and to tell the world just how reckless an idea it was to even consider putting Palin in line for the presidency.
They are fairly emblematic for the lack of integrity honor within the upper levels of today's GOP. As was clearly demonstrated by the selection of Palin as McCain's VP, their mantra "Whatever it takes to win" means just that, nothing is off limits if it results in GOP victory. Thus, all of the Republican resources were happily focused upon elected Sarah Palin - that thicker-than-shit buffoon - Vice President of the United States.
As a man of principle, I say that some things are bigger than my narrow self interest. Apparently, that concept is utterly foreign to Schmidt, Wallace and Davis.
One shudders to think of what the last four years would have been like had McCain/Palin actually won.
Let's see...war, war, more war, no US auto industry....
DeleteHBO’s ‘Game Change’ Goes Easy on Sarah Palin, John McCain in 2008 Saga
ReplyDeletehttp://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2012/03/09/hbo-s-game-change-goes-easy-on-sarah-palin-john-mccain-in-2008-saga.html
I agree with that article and can add another post about the same:
Deletehttp://politico-junkie.blogspot.com/2012/03/canada-disastrous-palin-gamble.html
"I do not have any empathy for Sarah Palin in the way that she was treated by the McCain campaign. They made a huge mistake in chosing her and at least Steve Schmidt and Nichole Wallace are trying to attone for that blunder. But the biggest mistake in that campaign rests squarely on the shoulders of Sarah Palin. Movie reviewers point to the pressures put upon this woman in the political world...a woman with a new-born baby and a son leaving for Iraq and a pregnant teenaged daughter. Are they discounting something here? Did Mrs. Palin not know about these personal pressures when she accepted McCain's offer? Her naivity and inflated sense of importance and incredibly misplaced hubris was the real reason for her problems on the campaign. "
Also, I saw a slide-show about the film on the ulta-conservative National Review website. One slide is captioned thusly:
"Woody Harrelson is cast as Steve Schmidt, McCain’s main adviser. The real Schmidt has described the film as very accurate."
On a side note, why did they change her backdrop on Hannity? It's not even animated, just a screen shot of some city. She looked like crap, some out-of-place lime green sparkly top covered with a wrinkly, ill-fitted too big jacket. She looked embalmed. No amount of make-up can fix that.
ReplyDeleteHi Quittler, listen up honey, I got your "PAC" announcement this morning about YOUR movie, the "undefeated" showings and I laughed so hard I spewed coffee on my new MAC. You're about to be exposed in film like you've been in print. All those narratives have one really big thing in common; they expose you for the petty, little small-town, small-time, rotten to the core person you really are. I for one am thankful that you don't have a shot in hell to hold public office again. You have lowered the bar on political discourse in this country and have exposed the ugly underbelly, giving it oxygen to fester. Now go away and do something for society instead of leeching off of others. Try being a REAL mother and grandmother. Take "personal responsibility" seriously for once in your life. And while you're at it, tell Todd he's gonna need a good lawyer.
ReplyDeleteDoes ‘Game Change’ Capture or Demonize Sarah Palin?
ReplyDeletehttp://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2012/03/08/does-game-change-capture-the-reality-of-sarah-palin-s-campaign.html
Okay but he really, really did an injustice to the Wizard of Oz. The Wizard was a kindly, decent man, trapped by circumstance in a position of authority he was not qualified for. But his intentions were good.
ReplyDelete"Covering Palin is a bit like swimming in a cesspool—there’s no way to avoid the stink. So I took a long shower." Geoffrey Dunn
ReplyDeleteI think that just about sums up the long nightmare that is Sarah Palin.
Sarah's accent was pumped up and amplified on the campaign trail. It is not her voice. She realized that the more emphatic she got with her folksiness, red meat/neck verbiage, the more applause lines they ensured.
ReplyDeleteThere is a scene where they are dressing the poor man's and less likeable Eliza Doolittle with her six-figure wardrobe, and they draped a SCARF on her. She shook her head no - there was no 'pregnancy' to hide this time. That wardrobe stunt worked it's purpose to get her where she was in this movie.
Great interview! It calmed my feeling as well regarding the movie. I have read the book "The lies of Sarah Palin". It is a great book deserving more press than it has gotten so far. Lets hope the renewed interest in Palin following the HBO movie will help.
