Statement on Game Change

Despite HBO's best efforts (Do you mean where the producers invited Palin to see a preview of the film and bring anybody with her that she wanted?), we have all seen the movie Game Change.(Thank GOD for Chinese bootlegs!) We stand by everything we previously said on the record. The movie is at best "historical fiction" - historical only in that Sarah Palin was nominated and campaigned for the office of Vice President. The movie is a series of scenes where the dialogue, locations and participants are invented or rendered unrecognizable for dramatic effect.(Palin-bots can't see truth, FACT!) HBO and its surrogates continue to argue that they spoke to 25 sources. None of them are on the record nor is their level of involvement in the campaign disclosed. Not one source is on the record in either the book or in the movie and it is clear why. (Yeah NOBODY like Steve Schmidt or Nicole Wallace are on the reco...wait, what?)The authors of the book never even traveled on the campaign with Governor Palin. We call on HBO to add the fiction disclaimer.

Well that WAS convincing! I mean if people who make a living off of Sarah Palin's popularity, or who are still being paid a stipend to jump through whatever flaming hoop she holds up, are saying DON'T waste your time seeing this movie, well....THAT just makes me want to see it more than ever!

I sometimes wonder - if Palin so amazing and wonderful why doesn't EVERYONE love her? Shouldn't her goodness and warmth just ooze out to the point where she wins everyone over? Why would anyone find fault with someone so full of good?

I convinced one of my republican friends to purchase Shailey's book. My friend was initially excited about Sarah Palin (2008) but her excitement has warn off a lot in the last couple of years. In the case of my friend, it was the fake bus tour and Sarah showing up at campaign spots to crash the party that did it. Lately her husband has been suggesting that Palin is working against the GOP either to secretly support Obama(!) or just because she is ignorant and wants to be famous. I doubt that it is a secret plan to support Obama. She is just not that clever.

This movie was not of Sarah's choosing so now she is squawking because it highlights her darker side - one that has been obvious to anyone following her for years.
Sarah, many of these "fictional" stories were floating during the campaign. They were not suddenly snatched out of thin air. People talked and leaked the truth way back then.
BTW, why didn't she stomp up and down when the book Game Change was released? Oh, yeah, she either doesn't read or someone "put it in front" of her.
As long as Sarah continues to make push herself into the national dialogue, more books and articles will come out - and few of them will be complimentary.

The book had a few interviews, but who wants to look at and listen to Steve Schmidt? No one seems to have pointed out that at the very least Steve Schmidt and Nichole Wallace went on record of the 25, of course! Sarah might want to bone up on her journalism because this is a "movie" it is not being advertised as being factual or a documentary. I have seen plenty of movies and I don't recall anyone going "on the record" for a movie.
Finally, It's funny how when Sarah writes a book, she doesn't use the same journalistic standards that she expects others to use when writing or talking about her.

However, I have lived with the knowledge of the picture of you this movie is going to present for over 3 years, and I really cannot put myself through it! I leave it for others to post their reactions hopefully to share with me their amazement that the GOP was so very desperate to win an election that they made a HUGE mistake and chose you to run with McShame. I will however get me some champagne or a fine wine, some good food, and log onto the blogs as the movie is showing just to watch the fireworks. The fun - sick part is that it sure seems old Sarah just can't help herself. Even if its negative attention, its attention. I've read about scenes with famlies of children with special needs. How impressed the staff was at her ability to work a rope line and connect with voters. The movie is going to show how a campaign was willing to shove an unqualified mentally unstable person on the ticket. The movie will show how some people still use manipulation techniques and flirtation and sex appeal to get what they want.
People already made their own conclusions about this strange woman from the start. This is why McCain lost. The obvious conclusions are:
- that she was willing to ruin her family's life by unnecessarily parading them on stage, rallies, allowing the kids to sign autographs, the youngest being a down syndrome infant.
- that she couldn't answer questions intelligently.
- that she loved the crowds, and caused many to question her motives for running.
- that she needed the job more than the nation needed her.
- that she had no problem causing division in her speeches and publicly rebelling against John McCain's wishes.
- that she had a bad relationship with Alaska.
- she spoke with this silly accent. She put on this silly persona. She acted like a silly school girl.
- she didn't walk the christian walk, by her words and attitude.
- she never apologized for anything, and showed absolutely no humility.
And since the 2008 campaign, she's shown even more unlikable traits.

Given that the movie's protagonist is Schmidt, and to a lesser extent Nicole, that is as it should be. Sarah is merely the shiny apple, the temptation, the seductress; she's not the hero of this Faustian tale.

ReplyDeleteWe all saw Sarah Palin freeze when Katie Couric asked her three times what she read to inform her world opinion. Sarah took it to mean, "What to you read, way up there in Alaska, far away from the rest of the world?" Sarah's defensive, "any and all of them" was a hint that Sarah hasn't opened a book since she was forced to read something in school.
We also were treated to Sarah's total and complete lack of knowledge about The Bush Doctrine (In what regard, Charlie?), geography, politics, history, and almost anything else that we've learned in school. Proof that Palin couldn't prepare for the debate-- they had to move the group to the McCain ranch in Arizona so she could practice. Prepare? Study? Minutes after hearing a history lesson about Paul Revere, Sarah still couldn't get the story straight. Sarah has a problem processing information. Even when she reads from a script, her mind races and it comes out as word salad.
If everything in the book "Game Change" was a big lie, where was Lawyer Van Flein and his lawsuit? He loves to threaten people, yet there was no hint of taking action against the book. The movie is based on the book. The only difference is that Sarah's fans are low information people who don't usually read, but they do watch TV.
Did Sarah turn out to be a good candidate? When McCain suspended his campaign in Michigan because polling indicated that he was going to lose there, Sarah was caught on video demanding to go there anyway. She referred to it as the Palin/McCain campaign. Gryphen is right. Those dedicated, true blue, loyal fans of Sarah stand to lose their jobs if/when Sarah becomes irrelevant. They need to make her appear more intelligent and important to the McCain campaign than she really was. We have all heard the tape of Sarah talking to "Sarkozy." Not only do I believe Wallace, Schmidt, and Game Change, I believe that we dodged a serious threat when McCain lost. The moral of the story should be to take a little more care in selecting our political candidates. Seeing Sarah appear on Fox, unaware that her wig is slipping, lets us know which group to believe-- and it is not her staff.

They conveniently forget the public saw Palin in interviews that she had people to prep her for so we heard how uninformed she was. Her debate performance did not pass the smell test guven she would not answer the questions. As poster Pat Padronos wrote Palin knows phrases and talking points but she is unclear which go with which.

I challenge Palin's perception of being a puppet. She demonstrates disregard for rules, boundaries and limits. She acts entitled angry held to standards everyone else is expected to do. When she disregards people vested in her ultimate success it appears to me she becomes vindictive. It is easy to speechify lying running on an assassination distortion campaign in contrast to
mastering basic geography, civics, and catching up on national and world news. Oh, and learn what the duties of the VP are!
I hypothesize that Palin's behavior, melt down, funk was never seen before in a politician. I suspect her entitlement came to light as she refused to prepare. Her way was to lose weight, tell whopping lies, charm and lie about her competition. She got far in life doing that. The mask of sanity came off.

This man is going to go down in American History like no other President has. And you know what? He knows it! Why does he know it? because he knows he is a decent person and when he took his vow to the U.S. he took it damn serious! He is a very compelling President and no matter what or how or what the Republicans/tea'ers do to him they will never be able to bring this very intelligent man down. He is just to smart for any of them.

DeleteEverybody needs to spend some time considering the reason why Palin and co. want to kill this movie. If it's well received by many viewers it will plant the seed of doubt that has been planted. It will destroy her chances of attaining any higher political office in the future. She still has big plans and ambitions. Believe it! She's hoping to be ready by 2016 with the necessary background knowledge she now lacks. And face it, she got the looks and that's more than 50% of what's required in America these days.

Gryphen's title/headline says it all. Sarah's people are paid to think like she thinks. I don't believe that Sarah had ever received any criticism in her previous jobs as mayor and governor. Oh, there was criticism in the media, but her advisers were paid to "yes" her and support her. When Schmidt and Wallace tried to work with her, Sarah did not know how to follow directions. Without any constructive criticism from staff, trying to help her, Sarah remained the same mean girl that she has always been.

As I read through that, I found the reference to having watched a Chinese bootleg copy very off putting. Sarah Palin always takes the low road. She is so oblivious to the concept of ethics that she thinks it is acceptable to watch pirated copies of a movie. On the campaign trail she carried around a fake Louis Vuiton purse that she had bought on her junket with Bristol in New York.

ReplyDeleteAll the Eisenhower boys grew up in genteel poverty, but their mother emphasized the importance of work and education.
All of her children went on to solid, respectable professions. One became the president of Johns Hopkins University. The other became president of Columbia University, after he was Supreme Allied Commander, and then head of NATO.
He was so intense, his doctor had to constantly remind him to take a break. He worked on military time, rising early, reading, studying, discussing, planning.
Whatever you think about Ike, he was the embodiment of the old Republican party.
Imagine what he would think of Sarah Palin. Since he was a nice man, he wouldn't say anything publicly. But he would know that her reach had exceeded her grasp when she was on the Wasilla City Council.
I understand why Sarah supporters are loathe to point out that, in real life, she's an ignorant psychopath. They don't want people to know that they were so easily suckered by her. Makes them appear more foolish than Sarah, if that's possible. It's a painful process. Only the courageous admit their mistake and start healing their bruised egos.
