If you thought we were all One Anchorage you were mistaken. But now there is hope to rectify that.

Early voting has started for the upcoming Municipal elections in Anchorage, and once again our citizens have the opportunity to cast an important vote to protect our still vulnerable LGBT community:

Right now in Anchorage there are no federal, state, or local laws of any kind protecting people from being unfairly fired or refused an interview because of their sexual orientation or transgender identity. In Anchorage, a woman can be fired solely because her employer believes she is a lesbian – for reasons having nothing to do with her job performance. A family headed by a responsible tenant with a perfect credit history could be kicked out of their home in a large apartment building – just because someone in the family were gay.

All other Alaskans would be protected from this unfair and unequal treatment. The current Anchorage Municipal Code ensures Alaskans who work hard and play by the rules won’t be unfairly treated because of their race, color, sex, religion, national origin, marital status, age, or physical or mental disability. Only lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Alaskans are excluded from these protections we all depend on.

No hardworking Alaskan should have to live in fear that she can be unfairly fired for reasons having nothing to do with job performance.

As some of you may remember Anchorage already passed a similar ordinance over two years ago (During what was labeled our Summer of Hate), but it was vetoed by incoming Republican mayor, and Sarah Palin protegee, Dan Sullivan.

Back then they had to bus in hate spewing homophobes from Wasilla, and the Mat-Su Valley, to join Jerry Prevo in fighting this proposition, and it still passed! It was only because Palin had helped inflict our open minded community with a Right Wing pandering son-of-a-bitch that ALL of our citizens are not currently enjoying the protection of the already in place Municipal anti-discrimination laws right now!

So if you can, please join us in taking back our city from the forces of hate and repression, and giving ALL of our citizens the opportunity to work and live without fear of discrimination.

Thank you

Gryphen

P.S. And if you are in Anchorage, PLEASE do not forget to vote!

  1. If I live to be 100 I'll never understand where the fear comes from.

Of course, ignorance is the root of fear, hatred the result of fear...

And why then does the GOP promote the party as small government when they are Sooooo interested in what goes on in the privacy of my own home?

¨If I live to be 100 Iĺl never understand where the fear comes from.¨

      My sentiments exactly.

How can something harmless be threatening?

(Do gay fruit flies scare them, too?)

Let me explain it., as it was explained to me, by a very, very intelligent feminist blogger.

Most of these fundernut "men" are in traditional marriage. Just by getting married, they get a sex slave and fulltime maid service.

The existence of happy, successful same sex marriages scares thee bejeebus out of them, because then even their clueless, cocker spaniel imitating wives would be able to see that there is no "god-ordained" reason that men should do so little and demand so much and get it, just for being men; that women should be the ones to cook, clean, and parent.

After all, that same sex couple had to actually discuss who had to clean the toilet, and who gets to pick the restaurant, and IF they'll have another child. And actually existing, right in front of your face example of equality WITHIN a marriage does scare them - and in that way, it should. The same way that my straight but equal marriage does - they just haven't figured out a way to outlaw mine yet- though the RCC has tried.

Good luck, Anchorage. Traverse City MI passed an ordinance and then gave it a huge voter approval in a costly and unnecessary referendum - equality matters!

O/T I have an ad on this blog with photo of praying Billy Graham and son asking people to sign up and pray for the country in 2012. I won't sign up with them but my prayer is for American voters to tell these hypocritical Republicans to just plain go away in November 2012.

Obama 2012 for four more years of great leadership!

  3. What is wrong with these people? What kind of human being are they that
fear and loathing overtakes their lives. These same homophobes would have been torch wielding villagers during most other civil rights movements.

Sometimes I want to just weep. I get over it though, and just never miss a vote.

Equality - such a simply concept, such a huge step forward away from fear and ignorance.

Equality - what we should be proud to embrace.

Equality - what a wonderful legacy to leave for the next generation.

Vote for equality and for those who support it.

    Please.

Until you good people of Alaska stand up to corrupt government officials and demand a recall, nothing will change. The AIP and the Palins want Alaska to live outside of the DOMINION of the United States of America. They want Alaska for themselves, not you. Until you stand up to them, this will be the kind of treatment can can expect to see.

Equal rights has been a long, continuing process since its inception. Whites were the primary beneficiaries of "equal rights". Blacks were not afforded equal rights, nor were women, until the 20th century. Gender-based people are still not entitled to the full equal rights. Equality has been a slow, frustrating battle but it has changed and will continue to change despite the ugly hypocrites who are filled with hate and fear.

  10. What's to prevent Sullivan from vetoing it again?
