It appears that the women may be our greatest hope in the upcoming 2012 election.

Courtesy of the Pew Research Center:

The gender gap in presidential politics is not new. Democratic candidates have gotten more support from women than men for more than 30 years. Even so, Barack Obama’s advantages among women voters over his GOP rivals are striking.

In the Pew Research Center’s most recent national survey, conducted March 7-11, Obama led Mitt Romney by 20 points (58% to 38%) among women voters. It marked the second consecutive month that Obama held such a wide advantage over Romney among women (59% to 38% in February).

In both February and March, Obama ran about even with Romney among men. In the March survey, Obama’s overall lead over Rick Santorum was 18 points. Fully 61% of women voters said they would favor Obama in a matchup with Santorum, compared with just 35% who backed the former Pennsylvania senator.

Of course this gap is only helped by the incredibly misogynist attitude that seems to permeate the Republican party right now, And let's face it ladies WHO among you is going to be able to resist that smile and instead vote for "Mr. Beige" himself , Mitt Romney?

Yeah that's what I thought.

I am always confounded by people who claim that the President is cool, or aloof, or that he is not good at connecting with others.  THAT is certainly not the man that I see.

A point, by the way, only reinforced at seeing President and Mrs. Obama interact with supporters during this dinner in Washington D.C..

This is a campaign video, so of course it is staged to make the President look good, but in my opinion there is no way to fake the compassion that he so readily provides to the young couple whose son required brain surgery, and who tell him how important the Affordable Care Act is to them personally. (Starts around the 2:39 mark in the video,) And then again (Around the 3:15 mark) when he talks about the time his daughter Sasha had Meningitis as the hardest time of his life.

I think that sometimes we men tend to vote with our pocketbooks, but women vote with their hearts.

So I guess the question for all women (And let's include the guys in this as well) is, "What does your heart tell you is the candidate with this country's best interests at heart?"  I firmly believe that if THAT is the question guiding our vote in November then the choice should be clear.

The choice is simple: vote for the man with a heart and compassion or vote for the cruel and heartless GOP. What kind of country so we want to be?

      There really is no choice.

There is only ONE candidate running for President who has intelligence, compassion, integrity, humanity and courage.

There is only ONE candidate whom I trust to make decisions that will affect me, my family, my country and my world.

And he's already in the White House.

I think the President is most likely to win 80-20 with women - or 100-0 with women who think about their self worth.

The GOP is treating women as chattels - and men - other than the wealthy - not much better

Did you wake up this morning hoping that Barack Obama being PRESIDENT was all just a bad dream? Too bad. Because you’ll be having bad dreams (and suicidal thoughts, I hope) for the next 4 years!

Are $arah, and Bri$tol still dreaming about that phone call (that they are never going to get) from President Obama?

Then there’s the fact that President Obama will always ignore $arah Palin.

$arah Palin is a nobody. And, your brain is getting shall we say “littler.”

    3. Not being acquainted with the word "littler", I looked it up: Littler is a grammatically incorrect word that is used by too many Americans and especially by females. When a speaker uses the word littler in a sentence, such as "That boy is littler than the other" it makes the speaker sound... completely uneducated...

Could it be that this poster is uneducated? Perhaps s/he is making a feeble attempt at a joke. Or perhaps there is a legitimate meaning of the word littler.

      There is! Littler:

A specific type of family which continually breed females of which the youngest child is always the most peculiar and often thought of by others as deluded.

Ahha! So you are a youngest child.

I don't know how many women voted for Obama compared to Hillary in the 2008 primaries, but as a woman, I felt that Obama showed more empathy than she did. And I think that's a very important quality for women.

I also think Hillary tried to overcompensate for being a woman by trying too hard to act like a man. Obama just seemed so much more comfortable in his own skin. Yes, he has athletic prowess and masculinity, but it's an intelligent, un-selfconscious masculinity that's not afraid to show genuine warmth.

I can't remember which writer wrote this, but it was a striking observation - he said that Hillary lost because she acted too much like a "Dad." And after eight years of authoritarian George Bush, America was ready for a Mom.

We ended up with both in Barack Obama - a protective "Dad" and an understanding "Mom" in one package.

How does one “act” like a “mom,” or a “dad?” How does one “act” like a “man,” or “woman?” A mother can be protective, and a father can be understanding.

For all the issues that we as women stand up for and fight for, I have to say one thing I truly fight back against is that we are supposed to or expected to vote for the women -- just because they are a woman.

We fight for equality and that too should be in the voting booth. If they as a woman do not meet what I believe in -- there is no hope in hell I'll mark that ballot 'just because the candidate is a woman'.

No automatic votes for women -- just because they are. They too have to earn it.

      Michelle Obama 2016!!!! LOL

Barack Obama doesn't need to act; he is the best thing that happened to our country in a long time. I don't think all the money the right wing throws at the GOP candidates can prevent him from being re-elected in November.

Also I might add. Hillary turned a lot of women and men off, when she kept talking about how she will obliterate Iran if she is elected. People were very disturbed about that kind of talk.

Me personally,I was always going to vote for then-candidate Obama from the time he announced his candidacy.

Absolutely, but Obama showed both qualities while Hillary did not, at least not to me. She seemed to be almost solely emphasizing how she would protect us in war; she came across as very hawkish. And don't forget, it was her campaign that introduced us to the "bitter clinger" meme, Jeremiah Wright, and Bill Ayers, if memory serves. She really went rightwing with her campaign, and America was sick of rightwing authoritarianism.

Honestly, I felt like I was watching a redux of George Bush's 2004 campaign at times.

  8. I have watched the You Tube videos of the Dinners with Barack. He just seems like someone you would be friends with, hang out in the backyard, have a beer, grill out, and talk about everyday things. I have always felt he and Michelle are very genuine people. He is definitely a hands on kind of guy, hugs others without restraint. Reminds me of the qualities I loved about Bill Clinton. I want a leader who is genuine, will hug, laugh, cry with his constituents. And, at the same time, doesn't get his panties in a wad because of a "perceived" slight. He MUST win in November and women WILL make the difference. The GOP bit off more than they can chew when they started the War on Women. As the Stop Rush campaign says - "ONWARD"!!

Interesting that you say that, when Bush was always the guy everyone said they wanted to 'have a beer with.' The difference, I think is, that President Obama would talk to you and listen, while Bush would talk about himself and then stiff you with the bill. I agree about Clinton too...a real person (with issues,) and a man who cares about more than power for himself and cash for his buddies. As much as Obama gets a rap from Palin about being a 'Chicago thug,' I think he is a real person trying to do good.

We have to re-elect this man. He is so compassionate about everything and that is what we need when we are all so fragile about everything right now. We are going thru a very difficult time in most of our lives. History repeats itself, but this is our problem. Others have had similar situations...recessions, wars, climate issues, poverty...but this is our time and this man is listening and he truly cares as it has touched his life so personally. Just hearing him talk about Sasha being sick and how he felt made me weep. He truly does care for us. Did you see how Michelle hugged that mother at the end. The tight hug at the end...she felt so deeply for her. I loved when the president took a french fry off his plate when they set it down in front of him. SO HUMAN! Can't you just see him dressing Malia for ballet class and doing her hair! He is so real. He is so smart. He is so caring.

After some serious soul-searching sessions of observing and researching all the current GOP presidential candidates 'mandates' and with usually being a 'conservative' woman voter at that (now independent), I have come to the conclusion that there is NO WAY I will vote for the GOP ticket again. Not that I like the hardcore liberal platform, which strikes me with extreme 'entitlement' issues or 'anything goes' attitudes, I do have confidence in our current president, Barack Obama, and his lovely wife, Michele. They are down-to-earth, very intelligent, family-orientated, outgoing and obviously at ease with everyday Americans - of ALL races - despite the ENORMOUS political pressure they experience every single day. President Obama will get my vote this November. I don't consider him an extreme liberal, but more of a middle-of-the-road Democrat.

BTW, I voted for Obama in 2008 because McCain and Palin scared the hell out of me, especially Palin. She's been part of the good-ol'-boys since Day 1 and NEVER addressed women's issues that would have benefited women themselves. Not to mention her LIES and DECEIT throughout her political career, family issues, and a distinct lack of intellect, bordering on insanity. What a EPIC disaster McCain/Palin would have been. Americans escaped a horrible nightmare, along with the rest of the world.

So MISSION ACCOMPLISHED GOP - you've destroyed your chances with (independent) women voters, with the help of your 'conservative' talking heads such as Rush Limpballs and all your misogynistic airheads at Fox News.

    Sexist stereotyping.

Any one who actually makes a decision about who to vote for (ie not a party loyalist) looks at all the candidates and makes a mental decision based on their qualifications and their political positions.

That is a right and our responsibility. Gender has nothing to do with it.

There's no doubt in my mind that this man is genuine in his compassion for all people, especially women. He saw firsthand what one catastrophic illness can do to a family, his own mother had to fight insurance companies while losing her battle with cancer. I've experienced this in my own family, but at a much older age. To battle an illness while worrying about everything you've worked for and valued being destroyed is a position I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy, nor anyone. President Obama "gets it" and has handled himself with courage and grace despite the cowardice, ignorance and disgraceful way his political adversaries have made it.

The fact that he chose Michelle as his soulmate and his respect for her as his equal is always evident. Did you notice how he stopped and listened while his wife spoke? Did you see him begin to tear up when the lady in blue shared her son's story? I saw no gloating nor bravado that "he made the affordable health care act his major issue. I saw a man with genuine concern and a good heart.

As much as I wanted to see a female president in my lifetime, Hillary convinced me that my wish could wait because I saw the warmth behind the intelligence of Candidate Obama. And he'll get my vote again in 2012.
