The real reason for Bristol's blog is made obvious as her ghostwriter defends Palin against pundits who are using her VP pick as the worst case scenario for Mitt Romney to avoid.

"No, no, no don't use MY picture! Bristol wrote this! No really!"
Courtesy of Nancy French's blog:

Most of you know I’d rather post photos of my family and write about Alaska than talk about politics. But after reading and watching some recent commentary, I can’t help myself.

The chattering class (The "chattering class?" Really) is talking – endlessly – about Mitt Romney’s choice of a Vice Presidential running mate. Will he choose a Governor? A Senator? A Congressman? There are many good options for Governor Romney – and all of them have already been dissected in the media – with a list of pros and cons beside their names. One is too “northern,” another is too “boring,” another is too “white.” I’ve lived through the scrutiny the family will endure, and it can be a nightmare.

Talking Points Memo in an article titled, “Why Mitt Romney Won’t Take GOP Down Another VP Rabbit Hole” quoted a strategist who said my mom is “a case study on what not to do. The McCain campaign really screwed up by going in and picking someone who was just gonna shake up the ticket when they should have picked someone who’s safe.”

In other words, the pundits say Senator McCain made a huge mistake. But where’s the evidence to back up this conventional wisdom? I’m not a pundit, but I remember the race. I was there. I remember the frenzied crowds after my mom joined the ticket. I remember the huge fundraising surge. I remember her convention speech. I even remember how McCain/Palin took a polling lead over Obama/Biden.

Yes the polls went up because Sarah Palin was new, and nobody knew anything about her. EVERYBODY loves "new."

But then they learned about her, despite the campaign's attempts to keep her away from the media, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Perhaps Nancy ought to read more because then she would learn that the group of people the MOST adamant about Romney not picking a Sarah Palin like VP choice are the Republicans.

I am not even going to bother picking apart Nancy's argument, because JUST the fact that she believes that ANYBODY would buy that this post was written by Bristol is almost too funny to believe.

I can hardly wait until somebody catches Bristol out in public and asks her on camera ANYTHING about what is written on her blog.

"Wait! Wait did I say?"

A correction for you, "Bristol." "I’ve lived through the scrutiny the family will endure, and it can be a nightmare."

No, you ARE living it, I hope it IS a nightmare, and it's NOT going to stop. Your mother (in name only) gave McCain a temporary surge until she opened her mouth and exposed just what a know-nothing she is.

You're an international JOKE, all of you, including your pimp daddy, so look in the mirror if you want to assess blame.

I wish this site had a way of showing the readers approval of what a commenter wrote, because if it did I'd be all over your comment with "Like" showing my complete agreement with what you wrote. Sarah acts nothing like a responsible and mature parent should act raising her kids, and I predict the worse failure of the family will be Piper. She has gotten none of the real positive reinforcement and attention she should have gotten in the past four years, and it will start showing up as she enters her teenage years. Her attitude towards schools will be where it shows up first.

Outside of adding my comment about Piper, everything else you said hit it on the nail.

Before you openly trash talk a lady maybe you should think about how you would feel if someone talked about your daughter that way. I feel sorry for you guys who have such great role models as the Kardashians and Snooki and would trash someone who's mother did more in one day for the service to her country than you will do in a life time. Mitt Romney's pick for running-mate will be no Sarah Palin-like 'game change'

...Choose wisely, as Barack Obama did in 2008, and you get a safe, mildly re-assuring running mate like Joe Biden.

Though long-winded and prone to the knee-slapping gaffe, Biden did what he was supposed to do — ease anxiety about a Democratic candidate lacking experience both in Washington and on the foreign policy front.

Choose poorly, as John McCain did, and you get a vice-presidential train wreck.

If Americans have learned anything about Mitt Romney through the 2012 presidential cycle, it is that he is no John McCain.

There will be no Sarah Palin-like “game change” moment leading to the Republican national convention in August — it’s just not in Romney’s DNA to gamble away his long-sought shot at the White House.

Sarah Palin factor puts women in back row

Mitt Romney’s running mate will not be a woman. And we have Sarah Palin to thank for that. At least in part.

In the search for Mitt’s Number Two, perhaps Beth Myers will try to pitch South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley or Gov. Susana Martinez of New Mexico. Either woman would bring both diversity and southern-state gravitas. And there’s U.S. Sen. Kelly Ayotte of New Hampshire, Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer, Condoleezza Rice — plenty of seemingly qualified conservative women to choose from.

But Romney won’t choose any of them. He’s playing it safe. And after Election 2008, safe means Mr. Wonder Bread. (Pack those bags, Rob Portman.) Picking a woman may make people think of what happened four years ago — that gamey-changey stuff — and Romney does not want that. At all.

    Thanks, Sarah.

Being a woman in the world of politics was a hard enough endeavor to begin with. But now we are feeling the full brunt of the additional Palin Factor: Whatever a candidate’s political liabilities may be, they seem somehow amplified by the lack of a Y chromosome.

“I do think that the extent to which Palin had liabilities as a candidate and as a public official has had some implications as to what we think of all women in office,” said Kay L. Schlozman, a political science professor at Boston College.

Palin wasn’t the only one who had a hand in creating this situation, of course. Sexism in American politics, both the overt kind and the silent variety that lies hidden like black mold in a dank basement, is as old as this nation. But as a candidate, Palin not only had a responsibility to her party not to catastrophically implode; like it or not, she had a duty to women.

And that responsibility included knowing not only her strengths, but also her limitations, and assessing both wisely.

And having done so, her duty was to decline the offer.

Well, I was reading your comment, nodding in agreement until I reached the following: "And there’s . . . Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer . . . — plenty of seemingly qualified conservative women to choose from.

You may not realize that Jan Brewer's educational foundation is iffy at best: though she graduated high school, she could not even graduate from community college. She did get a radiological technologist certificate, but that's it.

Think about that. She had even less formal education that dear little Sarah Palin!

Do you really think someone with so little discipline, so little ability should be a heartbeat away from the ability to set off nuclear warfare?

That anyone would include The Brewster in a list of qualified vice presidential candidates horrifies me, and should horrify anyone.

It is obvious that Sarah Palin was chosen simply to put a woman on the ticket hoping to capitalize on the female vote. She was a bad choice even for that. She was not well known and had no real experience and certainly no knowledge of world affairs and current events. She later proved that she could not even be counted on to fulfill the role she was given as Alaska's governor. I think we can all thank our lucky stars that John McCain was not a more compelling choice. Can you even begin to imagine what things would be like with this woman a heartbeat away from the presidency? That thought is totally mind boggling.

    Picking a Veep in a Post-Palin World

Four years ago, when Sarah Palin was tapped for the GOP’s number-two slot, her inexperience on the national stage was seen as an advantage by many Republican consultants. She was a fresh face from Alaska and a self-styled maverick, and in a campaign where both parties ran against Washington, her selection fit the times.

The times have changed. Many senior Republican politicos, including some who were burned by the Palin backlash, are now urging Mitt Romney to consider inside-the-Beltway experience as a plus rather than a minus as he mulls his veep pick. Mild-mannered federal lawmakers with long résumés are in; fiery rising stars are out.

    Dear "Bristol,"

We -- the voters -- were "there," too.

Sure, nice convention speech, fundraising surge because there finally was a vice presidential candidate, and crowds eager to find out what she was all about.

THEN we found out. We stopped giving money, the media attention created crowds, and the poll numbers sank quickly after her novelty wore off.

THEN Sarah Palin said a few words ("Any of them, all of them," "In what respect, Charlie?") and poor Mr. McCain knew he was saddled with a loser. But it was too late to change.

We remember it well, "Bristol," and so does the Republican party. The people who send your mother their spare change might continue to do so, but the big money people who fuel the GOP won't be writing any checks, to her, her PAC, or yours.

I was a life-long midwest republican until 2008 (am in my 50's). The last election changed that permanently.

Admittedly, I always admired Barack Obama and there was a good chance I was going to vote for him regardless. However, I was still on the fence up to September 2008 when McCain announced the VP pick.

I was angry that the republicans were willing to trade the safety and security of this country for a cheap political attempt to gain viagra-driven old geezer and Hillary-supporting voters (doesn't say much for their attitude towards the intelligence of female voters).

As a result, I joined my democratic-party-supporting wife and gladly voted for Obama/Biden.

I will never go back and vote republican again. Funny thing is I used to vote for Democrats once in a while just to prove I wasn't a 100% party man. Now, I absolutely refuse to vote republican (also protesting Citizens United).

Funny thing is that 4 republican couples we know all went through the same thought process and voted for Obama/Biden due to the choice of Palin as VP. By extrapolation, I would say this was a very common pattern in the 2008 election.

I was still too bound by my republican traditions to offer monetary support to the Democratic Party in 2008, but am heavily doing so this year.

I watched with a completely open mind to see who had the better sales pitch. (I actually liked McCain back in 2000, before he flip-flopped on every principle he ever had).

In the end, it was McCain continuing the Bush fear-mongering and his disastrously embarrassing "handling" of the Bush financial collapse that made it clear I couldn't possibly vote for him.

I'd find it hard to believe, if not downright impossible to let that one go...but so far no one is squealing from her crew, other than the pee pond of course. I suspect she will find a way to snark something out if she goes on one of her Fox pundit rants, but not a tweet or facebook sound.

Brisdull will be back to her Beefalo status soon, even after all the liposuction she had on her face it won't take long to puff up cuz she was spotted at DQ

After the engine passed, I looked in my mirror and saw a car pull into the turn lane a bit behind me, so I didn't stick around to photograph the freight and tanker cars that it pulled. I turned straight into the Dairy Queen drive-through lane, where I found myself behind a big, shiny, black, pickup truck with the word, "Tripp," emblazoned on the vanity license plate. The face of the driver was perfectly framed in the side rear view mirror. It was a pretty face, young and looked a bit familiar.

I thought about taking a few photos to show the truck, the license plate, the pretty face in the mirror and then the hands and face of the Dairy Queen girl as she reached out to serve her. There could be money in such a picture - and it is not as if the young lady who I figured was likely behind the wheel is not used to having people take her picture all the time, anyway, wherever she goes, her image being plastered on magazine covers and TV screens. Being a public figure, she is considered fair game and could not have legitmately protested - and probably wouldn't have, anyway.

Maybe she would have even been glad.

But damn! I'm not a papparazi!

After seeing Bristol's behavior and hearing her speak on various programs, no one can honestly believe she writes that blog.

She lacks the ability to put coherent sentences together unless she has rehearsed them. Her vocabulary is that of a middle-school mean girl, and her ability to think on her feet in a poised and mature manner is laughable.

Not that she couldn't improve herself, but given that the Palin family tradition seems to come down to avoiding education and self-improvement (other than cosmetically) at all costs, I doubt that she ever will develop any intellectual heft. She is her mother's daughter; using her looks to get what she can from gullible people.

That is Sarah's legacy, as sad as it is: women should be valued for their looks and looks alone. Sarah could have sought out mentors, could have paid people to help her learn. If she has a learning disability (which many of us suspect), she could be educable. But no, learning is hard work. Slapping on more makeup, fake glasses, phony boobs and short skirts isn't hard work but it does get some people's attention and loyalty.

Bristol should think about learning a real skill, taking classes and setting an example for Tripp. I doubt her choice in men will serve her well when it comes to providing for her son.

Okay, first I want to say how disturbing and creepy it is that Nancy likes to play Palin dress-up.

Second, I want to comment on how bizarre it is for her (playing the role of "Bristol") to bring this subject up, while pretending it's a "liberal" phenomenon (the obvious intention of using TPM as the prime example).

What is bizarre about it is that when this is done (and I see it all the time) I have to wonder what the author thinks the result is going to be. Because, as you pointed out, MOST of this talk is actually coming from REPUBLICANS.

What I mean is, the only person who is going to give a shit about "poor $arah" being used as the worst case scenario, is a right winger (and apparently, not even a majority of THEM anymore).

So now, having been indoctrinated that the point of view is an evil librul invention, that right wing person wanders out into the world filled with new hate for those evil communists that hate America and everything it stands for.

But... unexpectedly they are confronted by ONE OF THEIR OWN saying the SAME THING! Does not compute... cognitive dissonance... setting in... beep... sizzle...

And then it happens AGAIN. And AGAIN... and over and over they're seeing people they're *supposed to like* saying the same "horrible thing" that they were encouraged to attack as a "librul plot".

For me, it would eventually lend credence to the "horrible thing" and make the person who initially complained about it seem like, I dunno, a paid apologist.

But it's like you said. $arah was initially interesting and exciting... until they let her talk. So of course there was an initial rush of enthusiasm.

After that, it was just her core following of fellow know-nothings clinging to the excitement of one of their own possibly getting into the White House.

I mean, from what I hear, heroin is also awesome the first time you try it, it's only later that you realize the giant mistake you've made...

In the grand scheme of things - she was & still is an uneducated, incurious, uninspiring, and an insignificant not-long-ago-pregnant teenager who had little to no influence about political events of 2008. Sure, she might have been a 'guest' on that campaign trail, but that's the extent of it.

About the only thing she has to offer is what she remembers her opportunistic 'mean-girl' mother told her.

If she is trying to make herself relevant, well, sorry, this isn't going to help her. She's been trying all kinds of tricks, & nothing positive seems to stick.

Sarah Palin boasts of boarding a transcontinental flight after an amniotic fluid leak without a medical check for a premature Down Syndrome baby when she was a high-risk mother (over 40, 7th pregnancy, history of miscarriages).

Mitt Romney is already getting nailed for boasting of dog abuse. So why didn't Sarah Palin get the real scrutiny she deserved for doing something far, far, far worse? Answer: the media needed to make the election "exciting" and "fresh" because "news" is a for-profit business.

Palin was given a cake walk of a campaign. Her family has ZERO idea how difficult a real campaign can be. Sarah Palin is too stupid to see how gently she and her family were treated and are still being treated.

I didn't care much for Frank Bailey's book, mostly because he had the chance to the the right thing two years beforehand. Instead, he waited to cash in, using religion as an excuse for his "Come to Jesus" moment.

However, I will take one of Bailey's stories as truth-- namely the fact that Sarah Palin's ego was so fragile that she sent letters to editors under false names, praising the Governor's record (praising herself). Sarah had friends gaming the polls, accounting for her amazing popularity and an 80% approval rating. I see Bristol's Blog as the ghost written attempts of Sarah Palin to promote herself, even now when she has become a joke and is not an important part of the political discussion.

I can hear Sarah seething, "I'm on Fox. I still matter. I'm someone." No, Sarah, you are a cautionary tale not to select the game changer. Romney will pit someone more qualified and more boring. He learned the lesson, no matter how you try to spin it.

At first I thought that Bristol's blog was a way to promote her with the goal being a reality TV show. Bristol has no talent, no personality and she certainly doesn't write the stuff on her blog. Now I can see that it is another cheesy way to promote Sarah Palin and keep her in the public eye. As sure as Lou Sarah wrote those phoney letters, had friends voting for Bristol on DWTS, this is just another one of Sarah's cheap tricks of self-promotion.

Bristol, Honey, and Nancy, too, also: We also were there. We saw crowds cheer for Sarah. They still do. All she has to do is get in a bus and drive around for a while, and the media goes crazy. Then, she opens her mouth. Whether it was "ringing those bells and firing those warning shots" or being unable to name a Supreme Court decision with which she did not agree (Exxon/Valdez is a good one), Sarah is not an intelligent person. When she speaks on Fox, those are not sentences. Those are phrases strung together by word salad.

If Sarah is SO worried about what people still think and will go to these length to hire an author to befriend Bristol to raise ratings for Sarah is beyond creepy.

I hope Nancy French loves her children more than Sarah. Because very soon Sarah will be asking her for an abnormal amount of devotion and allegience. Sarah is using Bristol's blog to have a ghostwriter paint Sarah as a saint. And, it will just get more and more bizarre for French. On the other hand, Mitt's paid literally and figuratively for top spot on the ticket. He's campaigned almost 6 years now and will barely get enough support for the nomination. He will play it safe because if he brings out a "Palin" as VP -

I'm sure Sarah Palin has been prod of her country all her life were as the Current First Lady was never proud till her Tupperware organizer got elected. But this is what you all chose to proud of. Hey you've got the Kardashians and Snooki as role models too.

So, who you gonna vote for? Yo mama is not on the ticket, darlin'. Maybe you should consult with Snooki before you decide. LOL!

      @boomer:

Fuck $arah Palin, and fuck you, too! America should be thankful $arah Palin will never have access to the nuclear codes! My life does not revolve around $arah Palin. She is NOBODY! $arah Palin is a loser who’s life revolves around destroying President Obama. $arah Palin only had the guts to run on a presidential ticket, while STUPID! She was in over her head! She had no business running! $arah Palin is nothing! She accomplished nothing! She failed! I don’t want to try to be a laughing stock like her! Because that’s all she is!

$arah Palin’s fake “devout conservative values” didn’t rub off on her bratty children, since they fuck in canvas tents, and have babies out of wedlock! And, fuck Jan Brewer’s wrinkly old ass! I don’t care about her lack of a “proper education.” Jan Brewer is a BITCH! I know not all great presidents had a fucking Harvard degree! President Obama may not be the smartest president, but he is one of the smartest, and a million times smarter than that IDIOT $arah Palin! The only jerks who think President Obama isn’t smart, are racist fools, like you! The black president is smarter than you, get over it!

I got news for you, troll: GWB graduating from Harvard isn’t “news” to us liberals. The creep went to Yale, too. Duh. President Obama has more life experiences, and leadership skills, than $arah Palin has in her raggedy wig! Barack Obama got Osama Bin Laden, and the stupid republicans didn’t! $arah Palin hates America. That’s why she and the First DUD were “palling around” with the AIP, a secessionist party, and the president, and the First Lady were not! And, FYI, Michelle Obama is POPULAR, $arah Palin is not.

Yup, we’re proud of our president, and our First Lady. Your idols are trash! Your side has Britney Spears, and pedophile Ted Nugent as role models!

boomer honey, take an adult english class at a community college and learn grammar and spelling. whatever argument you were going to make got completely lost in what you typed.

another thing. have you heard of "bleeding heart liberals"? that term is coined for us, for liberals. why, you may ask me boomer. the answer is because we want to take care of everyone. because we are the ones who want to feed the hungry and heal the sick and give homes to the homeless. we are the ones who want all children to have equal educations regardless of their socioeconomic background. republicans have NEVER been accused of having a bleeding heart over anyone or anything with the exception of their own investment portfolios.

education is a good thing. if you don't have the monetary means to go to an accredited school you can go to a public library and educate yourself.

choose your idols carefully. you sound very similar to your false idol sarah palin. if this is sarah palin-STFU and go back to your pathetic existence. it is pathetic.
only someone incredibly miserable could so happily spew so much hate and divisiveness.

Poor jealous boomer. Your post is a pile of lies an really bad grammar (not to mention misssing words.) What Sarah has doe with her life is not leadership. Having to get married is not intelligence. Flitting between community colleges does not show intelligence, particularly when one claims "journalism" as a degree but cannot articulate a complete thought ehile speaking or writing. Having three children who could not graduate from high school is nothing to be proud of. Using your national platform to criticize the President is catty and immature, not leadership. Taking huge sums of money under false pretenses should be illegal. Calling yourself Christian while acting as if one has never read about Jesus is silly. Supporting Israel when they are terrorists to the Palestinians (many of whom are Christian) is an interesting approach, but not very wise.
And we do not hate 'conservative women.'We hate peopel who lie, cheat and prance around grabbing money, and have nothing positive to contribute to this life.

Maybe it has been said already - "the chattering class" was a phrase famously used by Laura Bush. When she used it, it became abundantly clear the Bushes felt they were better than most people.

What's this Nancy French's problem? Way to go, fool. Why would you invoke GW Bush and clan? Most Republicans with half a brain try to distance themselves from that era.

She looks like a Sarah Palin wannabe, btw. Probably why Sarah chose her to pretend to be Bristol :-).
