George Zimmerman, charged with second-degree murder for the killing of Trayvon Martin, is shutting down his old social media accounts. (Not helpful: The 2005 MySpace page where he wrote “I dont miss driving around scared to hit mexicans walkin on the side of the street, soft ass wanna be thugs messin with peoples cars.”) Zimmerman isn’t going dark online, however. Instead, his defense lawyer, Mark O’Mara, started up a new Web page for his client this week, with Facebook and Twitter accounts to go with it.
O’Mara noticed that Zimmerman had raised $204,000 from a website he started in April, and the new page will raise money, too. More interestingly, O’Mara said that social media will be his tool for responding quickly and efficiently to “misinformation” about his client and the case. If his strategy works, O’Mara will be the Sarah Palin of defense lawyers: The guy who changed the legal publicity game via the Twitter and Facebook blast.
Interestingly enough I am not sure who this comparison hurts more, Sarah Palin or George Zimmerman?
However it is interesting to note how far Palin's brand has fallen, in that now her name can be attached to one of the most racially divisive, and politically sensitive cases in the news today, and that it may further damage George Zimmerman's defense to have that be so.
However it is an apt comparison in that Palin did indeed utilize the internet in an attempt to reinvent herself, while staying away from attempts to by the news media to cross examine her and reveal the pathology buried behind hr media persona.
It might be worth noting to Mr. O'Mara that in the end it did NOT work in Palin's favor. While, much like Zimmerman, she was able to retain her hard Right Wing fan base, her ugly personality managed to shine through in anti-Obama diatribes and defensive soliloquies (Think Blood Libel) which essentially destroyed any chance she had of ever being seen as sympathetic by reasonable, rational people.
Which of course is why we now see her name attached, even in a tenuous way, to such an incredibly racially provocative and emotionally sensitive case.
And you know, now that I think about it, this really does hurt Zimmerman more than it hurts the Palin brand. I don't believe the Palin brand can get much lower.
Well, that is until we see Bristol's new reality shows hit the airwaves of course.

Fox NEWS: Megyn Kelly's Fox News show had quite the ending on Thursday.
Just before she tossed to the next Fox News program, Kelly said that many viewers were interested in seeing her interview Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren about how she listed herself as having Native American heritage in law school. Warren, who is currently running against Republican Massachusetts Sen. Scott Brown, said she listed herself as Native American to meet students with similar roots. She criticized Brown's campaign for suggesting that Warren listed herself as a minority in an attempt to get teaching jobs.
Kelly responded to viewers requests and said she would be happy to interview Warren on her show. "She is more than welcome to come on the program and I already know exactly how I would begin it," Kelly said.
She then raised her hand and said, "how," mimicking a stereotypical Native American greeting.
Kelly started laughing hysterically, as did individuals off camera. She then announced that Fox News host Shepard Smith's program was coming up next.
"Oh my god, Megyn. Are you kidding me?" Smith asked. "You're out of your mind."
"Shepard, I've been drinking again!" Kelly said through her laughs.
"I can tell. You enjoy yourself," Shepard responded. "Wow."

Why didn't anyone scoop up the concept of Bristol and the Massey Brothers working for some unknown small charity? What happened to Todd Goes Snow Machining? Life is a Tripp? How many concepts can Sarah peddle before the reality show market gets tired of her?
Bristol's latest version is supposed to be a Trial Marriage. That sounds as if we should start the program watching Bristol and Gino wake up in the same bed, arguing who gets to make the coffee and who has to make Tripp's breakfast. Wouldn't it be cute if Tripp walked in on them, saying, "So who is going to get my breakfast, Mom or Trial Dad?"
Then we learned that Bristol and Gino do not spend the night together, in fact, she is staying in an apartment at her folks' compound-- no boys allowed upstairs, Willow! Bristol's latest post was been about being a child of God, a good Christian woman who happens to be single right now and she's also a mother.
Bristol, honey, you're not unique. There are many single women raising children without getting all of the lucky breaks that have come your way. Stop using this to define yourself. Your mother defines herself by retelling the story of Trig's birth-- which really isn't her story to tell. All that defines you is that you made a mistake when you were a teen, maybe more than just a few mistakes. Yes, people do give inspirational speeches telling people not to make the mistakes that they did. Let's be honest, Bristol, you don't have much of a story, you're not inspirational, you don't have the personality or the talent to sell that story, and we don't feel sorry for you. Delete... there is a bitterness as to how they perceived Palin has been treated by the GOP establishment. They see her as being left out to dry by the etsablishment by not being defended over the "Game Change" hack job, the Gifford's "blood libel" incident, the backstabbing by the McCain forces, and the insult from the Bush clan.

Giving Palin a ten minute slot early in the afternoon, or late at night, would not cut it either. For such a high profile, former VP candidate with a massive and loyal following to be given any such fobbing off will be seen as the ultimate insult.
If the Tea Party/Palin following is so visibly insulted it would be suicidal for the Romney forces surely, especially in a close election.
Palin has wisely rented a site near the hall where she can talk directly to her supporters, the whole GOP, and the media. This will ensure she will have a voice either inside or outside the convention. If the Romney forces drive Palin outside then on their heads be it.
