President Obama in Afghanistan talking to the American troops.

Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

In my opinion THIS is how the Commander-in-Chief talks.

I thought he demonstrated great passion and hope for the future and great empathy for what the soldiers have been through these last eleven years.

The President also spoke to the American people, laying out the plans for the future in Afghanistan, and you can find that video here.

Amen Uncle Gryph! Can we even imagine if McCain and Palin had won in 2008? Thankfully we don't have to.

I have to say, my heart stopped when the network I was watching flashed 'Breaking News' and it went directly to President Obama without any intro.

On another note, as much as many stories are crap on Huffington, I just read one posted with regard to President Obama titled:

"Obama Can't Use Bin Laden but Bush Could Use Saddam and 9/11 -- Really?". The first paragraph starts: "Are you kidding me? Seriously, are you kidding me?"

Loved it!! It not only goes after the Republications but the media too -- those pundit talking heads!! What did surprise me is the author is listed as a political junkie and a Chamber of Commerce Exec. Now that surprised me to read support for the President from an Chamber of Commerce Exec!

  3. Yeah, well, we should also get the eff out of Afghanistan.
There's nothing to be gained, but many lives to lose if we stay. It's insane.
To some level I can understand US forces staying in (South)Vietnam, (South)Korea, Germany even. Wars were fought, to some level won, keep the fought-for territory.
We won NOTHING in Afghanistan. We need to get out. Period.

I am not happy about an agreement keeping us there until 2024, but then, once you invade a country, you own it. That is why this whole operation was so wrong. No wonder Bush is still smirking...he and Cheney and Rumsfeld, who is all over Fox again (lock this felon up, someone!) set this whole process in place, got millions to their sponsors, and left the sewage for Democrats to clean up, as always.
I do admire the President, and he is painting the GOP into a corner from which they can't crawl out. That is actually entertaining to watch. Greta asked Rummey is he had fault with the way Obama has handled Afghanistan. He hemmed and hawed and finally said, "I really don't know enough about what's going on." They should have Sarah on...she'll give your Rupert's opinion no matter if she understands it or not!

Well, if Rumsfeld "doesn't know enough about what is going on" (per his own admission), then why is he charging Fox large sums of money to be a paid talking head, just for the purpose of criticizing President Obama about it?????

And Gryphen, you forgot to mention something else important: just the other day, the Obama administration, working behind the scenes, got the rest of the bin Laden family kicked out of Pakistan and deported back to Saudi Arabia.

In total contrast to the way in which the bin Laden family, which was very close to the Bush family (and business partners with them in the Carlisle Group), was allowed by President George W. Bush to sneak out of the US quietly and illegally on a chartered flight (by Bush's FBI) after all aircraft had been grounded in the immediate aftermath of 911???

      http://www.infowars.com/articles/sept11/bin_laden_fbi_let_charter_flight_after_911.htm

So, Bush, who refused to chase bin Laden down, saying that bin Laden is not important and that he (Bush) "doesn't think about him any more," nevertheless proclaimed "Mission Accomplished" in order to pose for a bunting-draped, campaign-poster photo-shoot.

Then when Obama actually gets bin Laden killed, the republicans cry foul, scream that Obama should not be able to talk about it, whine the mission is not accomplished, but are still, 11 years later, unable to define what the mission is, was, or should be in Afghanistan. What's wrong with this picture??????????

Most important, Romney, while Bush was still president, said in reference to bin Laden, “It’s not worth moving heaven and earth spending billions of dollars just trying to catch one person.”

Yup, catching bin Laden sure would have shut down a bunch of war profiteering, wouldn't it, fellas?

As a Canadian I certainly have been rooting for Obama, at least as a bystander and not-participant. But now I see that it doesn't make a damn bit of differenc which one of the political war apologists you'all get for a pres.

Judging from the way the 2024 announcement was received so well by the lemmings here, it's pretty obvious that it's pretty easy to spoonfeed any old war to you muricans. You're all neatly lined up and ready to march right off the cliff when the pres gives the word!

I really love President Obama and our great first lady. McCain/Palin would have finished the job Bush started and finished this country off.

  8. Love that PBO just does things - doesn't ask the GOP for their permission - sends them crazy. Also too every time the WH Correspondents dinner is held - the President follows up with something of significance to the security of the US.

The press still annoys me - every time he travels they rarely cover the trip or how he is received so well by other countries - yet the press are with him overseas and reporting on what is happening in the US. Guess visiting the troops is something they are obligated to report. A change from the never ending "stupid" questions based on GOP talking points.

Oh what a wonderful speech! And he's going to end your war just like he promised. In another 12 years but that's just the fine details that aren't important to the faithful and the indoctrinated.

Which explains why most everybody on this blog is already slobbering their praise on him!
    luv from Canada.

p.s. elect Romney. there's no reason that creep wouldn't be able to lie just as well while keeping a straight face.

You repeatedly demonstrate ignorance of the issues discussed on this blog. Hopefully you are not as ignorant of your country and its issues.

Your posts certainly don't demonstrate any "luv" from Canada, just snotty ignorance and an unfounded sense of superiority. Shoo.

  11. Gryphen...thank you for posting this! I love how the President made a "surprise" visit to Afghanistan and the Press had to keep their big fat traps shut otherwise they would have compromised his safety!

Oooh, this is going to piss off Romney and the GOP! I can predict with great certainty that they will be howling like banshees about how President Obama is politicizing foreign policy and reminding people of what a wussy GWB was for not going after bin Laden and what a wussy Romney was for saying we shouldn't go after bin Laden.

If you listen very closely, you can hear their tiny heads exploding.

Hahahahaha! Love these comments, Nefer and Gasman! And just think, with Obama/Biden 2012 - that 2024 withdrawal date might just be moved up. With a GOP prez - you can be assured that 2024 withdrawal date will morph into 2050, or NEVER!

Grypen, I get so much more out of your serious posts about Barack Obama, politics in general, religion, and the occasional inspirational theme, than I do out of your posts about Sarah, Bristol and Levi. Yet the comments on those latter posts always far out-number comments on your (in my opionion) better and more informational posts. I find this a curious phenonemon. Because I will admit, I too go first every day to your posts about the witch from Wasilla. I don't comment much, but I read a lot of the comments. It seems to be an obsession for me, that I have to admit I am embarrassed about. How can I give so much of my time to reading about a woman whom I perhaps irrationally hate?! Why do I chuckle or groan over the candid or insulting comments...and come back for more? Why can't I just shove the whole damn subject of this witch from Wasilla under the carpet and never pay attention again? I guess it's in the league of enjoying murder mysteries (Agatha Christie) or horror stories (Stephen King).. I used to read Stephen King too, until I realized that every time after finishing one of his riveting suspense novels, I was left with a distinctly uncomfortable feeling of vacancy. Like, why the hell did I just spend all those hours, reading that horror with so much attention, only to finish with absolutely no point or moral or inspiration, just emptiness. And I have to admit that my obsession with Sarah Palin leaves me with a similar feeling. Bugger! I am going to have to quit, somehow. I don't understand why I am so obsessed.
Anyway Gryph, I am still your fan and I love all the posts you put up about Obama. He is gracious, talented and is doing the best he can. By the way,you should check out the sea of pee from yesterday. They are having a meltdown, in-fighting between members who are finally coming to terms with the fact that Romney will be the GOP nominnee, and those who delusionally refuse to give up their belief that Queen Sarah will come marching into the convention and take over the whole process in one fell swoop. --Damn, there I go again, back to my obsession. But you know what, it is just too damn entertaining! Real life, no less! Still, there are lots of better things to think about. Oh well, sorry for the wordy post, I'll be clicking on you again in the morning no doubt, hoping for a juicy bit of gossip about you know who!

Wow! I feel the same way! I feel like I need to "kick the habit", too, but, I don't think the obsession is without merit. I think everyone here recognizes the danger that Palin represents to our country - and by Palin, I mean all of the Palinlike cretins out there.

I almost didn't visit here today (almost decided to discontinue, really)- but, heck, like a rubbernecker - I needed to see if the Palins, et al, have gotten their just desserts yet! Truly, it may take awhile - but their day is coming - and I want to see that iceberg take out these vicious traitors, once and for all!

Plus, it's always good to read about Newt's implosion and the GOP unable to put a dent in President Obama's foreign policies! And wonderful to read the post about Palin's epic fail with women, and the struggle for equal rights for the gay community, and . . . well, so much more! It gives me hope! It's not such a bad obsession if it keeps you informed and gives you hope that the extremists don't own us yet.

This is how it's done! Let the gnashing of teeth and wringing of hands begin.... they're tripping all over themselves about the 2024 timeline, but he's the commander in chief and he's a true leader.

For Shrub and Cheyney, let me explain it to ya in words you can understand-

    Mission Accomplished
    Mission Accomplisheder
    Mission Accomplishest

And Romney took 24 slices of pizza to 24 firefighters while politicizing Obama's decision to take out Osama Bin Laden, after complaining about Obama's ad with the list of accomplishments, politicizing OBL'S death.

Shake the etch a sketch harder next time, Mitt!

Its hard not to get really frustrated and angry at the "24/7 Whine About the Darkie in the White House Network" and the blowhards like Sean Hannity.

I see such idiots blathering on and on about how every single thing the President does, is a huge pain in their sides...all in hopes of inspiring hatred in their viewers.

Jon Stewart really bitchslapped them tonight, showing clips of them crying over how events are making Obama look good, claiming he is being "devisive." (Another of those "call the other guy what we are" techniques.)

Then we are shown an older clip of those same scumbags, rooting for George Bush, saying the exact same words as they are now criticizing the President for saying.

People who ARE trying to be devisive, like to say how its the same on both sides. Bullcrap. Show me a clip of someone like Rachel Maddow bellyaching about some rightwing nutjob, followed by an earlier video of her saying the opposite.

Won't happen. Progessives don't expect anyone to forget the recent past, as Fox hatefesters obviously believe their lowbrow fans do.

"The President also spoke to the American people, laying out the plans for the future in Afghanistan"

Sorry, Mr. President. There is no "future" for American involvement in that deeply corrupt, violent, god-forsaken dustbowl. Staying there another decade is an abomination.

How come a few thousand(?) insurgents can pick up some rusty old AK47s and become an existential threat to the country but the "government" requires 20 years and untold billions of dollars of American dollars (not to mention the loss of American life) to mount a credible defense? It's a travesty.

If the Afghani people really wanted to secure their country from the insurgents - which they clearly do not - they'd do it the way every other patriotic peoples have done it: united determination to defeat a common enemy.

Very disappointing. Not "Vote for Rmoney" disappointing, but still a low point for me.
