Can I have an hour of your time? Update!

The image above is from Aaron Sorkin's incredible new show, "The Newsroom."

I watched it on Sunday, and immediately fell in love with it.

It just so happens that HBO has put the entire first episode online over at YouTube, which you can view for yourself by clicking here.

I know that a lot of you complain that you don't have HBO and miss some of the great programs that we all talk about here. Well I certainly do NOT want you to miss this one so get some popcorn and your favorite beverage and sit back to enjoy one of the best programs I have seen in quite some time. (It lasts about an hour and thirteen minutes. Don't worry, it'll go by quickly.)

Perhaps afterward you could come back here and let us know what you thought.

Update: I saw this on Facebook and thought it belonged here.

This is where I got hooked.

  1. Huge ratings for this fantastic show! Been waiting weeks for it and it didn't disappoint. Aaron Sorkin SO has his finger on the pulse of this country. Sorry Sarah and Bristol -- oh ye of paltry ratings -- the 'Day of the Teabagger' is OVER. As are your uber-lame shows.

    OBAMA 2012!!!

I loved it and wish there was a show like it in real life. I think it got some bad reviews because networks were afraid people would want the bar raised on the news.

As Gryph mentioned, many of us don't get HBO and miss out. Here is my link I found sometime back to watch Bill Maher. The person uploads usually on Saturday the full episode (Vimeo) instead of bits and parts that may show up on youtube, most of which get pulled.

Was your tease about the message from Tank sincere or a shot across Tank's bow? Reminds me of Alaska WTF telling us Willow was pregnant and saying, "Wait until you hear who the father is" and then falling totally off the radar.

Go up to the search box and give it a try. It is an exhilarating feeling when you learn a new skill and it is empowering to do things by yourself rather than wait for someone to do it for you.

When it got to the end, I noticed I hadn't taken a full BREATH the entire show! Same terrific fast pacing like "West Wing" had.

Cracked me up that the main character went off on a rant about people who mindlessly like to claim "We're number one!" (I'm pretty sure Romney yells that out a dozen times a day.)

I had been saying that the only thing America holds the top position in, anymore, is GULLIBILITY...and Jeff Daniels expounded on that nicely.

I loved it! Looking forward to this Sunday night.

OT...big day tomorrow at 10 am eastern time. Best kept secret of the healthcare law outcome since Palin's faked pregnancy..At least we will know truth tomorrow on something!

  12. Good on you for sharing this...the news as we wish it were...just like we wished House was our Doctor if we were seriously ill......after the first 5 min. I said YES another winner.....network programs are hardly worth watching any more.

I hope they keep putting this out on YouTube...they should pit others out as well.

I love Justified....the Crowders always makes me think of the Palins....lol

What I want to know is who were the assholes who panned this show? I thought it was great. In haven't had a TV for 7 months now and have relied on the inter(tubes). I think I'm going to get HBO on line so that I can follow this show.
Great show, great ensemble cast. Love Waterston.

  14. I watched it on the HBO website.

    I loved it too.

I'd love to be able to continue to watch it, but it looks like you'd have to subscribe to see it on the web and I just can't afford that.

My union just reopened our contract, gave back our raises and accepted two MORE years of furlough days. That is a minimum 3% pay cut for me for two MORE years. My car insurance just went up. I haven't been able to save anything into my 403b for the last two years because of the furlough days. My pay is frozen at 2007.

I really want to see this show, but I can't afford to. I'll have to wait two years to do anything that used to be normal. Like buy a new pair of shoes.

Maybe once it's released on DVD I can check it out from the public library for free.

If there are any more public libraries.

i agree, i saw it last nite and was highly
impressed. there is not much on tv that makes
me Literally Laugh Out Loud: SamWaterson character is great!

its sharp witty and also makes nice use of, at least, two characters who are most always ignored while also showing them as highly
efficient and productive after being in war zones. About Time!!

best show ive seen in a long long time.

Thanks for posting, Gryph. LOVED it. So ironic to see quality television after the last post about the pathetic Paylins and their embarrassing attempt to be "stars". Clearly shows what's right and what's wrong with America, doesn't it? (Pssst, Paylins, you are what's wrong.)

There's a short clip going around on Facebook that I saw in the auditorium. Awesome! The looks on the faces and complete silence. I don't have HBO, but thinking about getting it even more now.

As usual Sorkin is brilliant....omg this is needed to be seen by every news executive. The original speech at NW was soooo true, I have said it for years. The question Sarah couldn't answer when Gibson asked her...What is American Exceptionalism?
Bush and his evil pals often stated....America is preordained by God to be the best country and therefore anything we do is right. I often thought how children in the rest of the world feel about their country as they grow up, 2nd best? The cast is awesome, and Daniels is showing he can really act...bravo HBO, again.

I saw it on YouTube two nights ago and sent the opening scene out to everyone I know.

    Maybe there is hope?

I do wish our President would take the time to speak to the people more; it has been a mystery to me how poorly he has communicated in the last 3 1/2 years. I finally decided he is just so busy doing his job and will focus on speaking to us after the conventions, maybe/

Gryph, I do appreciate how you have been 'boosting' him here at IM; even if I don't comment on a posting.

Assuming you are not a concern troll ...

It is not that the President doesn't speak - it is that the MEDIA never reports anything he does or says. Use whitehouse.com or theobamadiary - you will find what the MSM doesn't want you to know.

I have to enter another comment on this subject: who would have thought to cast Emily Freaking Mortimer, in the role she has?

If I was the casting director for something looking for a lovable librarian character, yes...but as a firecracker news person?

That she pulled it off so well, leaves me almost speechless!

I saw a promo, where Jeff Daniels looks into the camera, and says, "This is a group of highly intelligent people, saying extremely well written dialogue...QUICKLY. So: PAY ATTENTION!"

    Gryphen,
I've been waiting for this to come on and it was really great. I have added personal reviews to many sites to dispute the bad reviews the show received. Beats any reality show the Palins have come up with, lol..;) Keep up the good work.

After the little diatribe about the US as the "best country," Emily Mortimer (I think it was her character) says that what makes the US great is that the country constantly tries to be "better."

And I agree with that. As long as this nation does not wallow in the past, which is what the Republicans want to do, it succeeds. When the welfare of all of the people comes first, the US does well. When Americans try to turn back the clock and live in some mythical world that never did exist, we fail. When Mitt Romney and other Republicans rhapsodize about some time in the past when things were better, they are simply lying because, if things were better 200 or 150 or 100 or 50 years ago, they were only bette for part of the population, not for all of the population.

I thought that the show was absolutely brilliant and I hope that it continues for several seasons!

We are an exceptional nation when someone like Sarah Palin is pushed and passed off as an iconic representation of Americana.

Have never witnessed such extraordinary attempts to celebrate and herald mediocrity as noteworthy. Played in a state championship bball

  30. Trolls, neo-nut bags, flying monkeys from Wasiller or Turd blossoms from the stone age will whine for weeks.... All you'll hear is that constant, cluster-fox whine...

The opening scene and the monologue delivered was the closest thing to real truth I've heard uttered on teevee in a LONG time... Even as a 'sit com' of sorts, the monologue delivered a talking point bitch-slap that needs to occur more often....

The lingering scene was also when the lead guy came out, after delivering his monologue, and one of the talking heads that was on stage with him said 'You can't talk to me like that'... and was on the verge of tears.. With Boner's propensity to cry like a two-year-old at the drop of a hat, you may actually SEE some tears TODAY...

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH !!!!!!

My question is what is the reference for the overall statistic. Out of how many countries are we 27th in math?

But we are #2 in murder?

So 27 in math but 2 in murder?? I would prefer the numbers were switched. Says a lot about our society when we would rather incarcerate and terminate our citizens rather than nurture and educate them.

I have to expound somewhat on what I believe exacerbates the incarceration problem...the criminalization of marijuana.
