Here is the story behind the American Family Association courtesy of SPLC:
Initially founded as the National Federation for Decency, the American Family Association (AFA) originally focused on what it considered indecent television programming and pornography. The AFA says it promotes "traditional moral values" in media. A large part of that work involves "combating the homosexual agenda" through various means, including publicizing companies that have pro-gay policies and organizing boycotts against them.
Here are some of AFA's stated opinions in their own words:
"[T]he homosexual lifestyle is characterized by anonymous sexual encounters and celebration of sexual obsession and perversion unparalleled in any other social group." – Richard Howe, "Homosexuality in America," AFA publication, 1994
"As with smoking, homosexual behavior's ‘second hand' effects threaten public health… .Thus, individuals who choose to engage in homosexual behavior threaten not only their own lives, but the lives of the general population." – Gary Glenn, president of Michigan chapter of AFA, 2001
"Homosexuality is not only harmful to homosexuals themselves, but also to children and to society." – Stephen Bennett, AFA writer, 2004
"If President Obama, Congressional Democrats, and homosexual activists get their wish, your son or daughter may be forced to share military showers and barracks with active and open homosexuals who may very well view them with sexual interest." – AFA press release, February 2010
"The homosexual movement is a progressive outgrowth of the sexual revolution of the past 40 years and will lead to the normalization of even more deviant behavior." – Don Wildmon, AFA website, 1999 (still posted as of 2011).
"Homosexuality gave us Adolph Hitler, and homosexuals in the military gave us the Brown Shirts, the Nazi war machine and six million dead Jews." – Bryan Fischer, AFA director of issue analysis for government and public policy, 2010
So not only are there FAR less than a million members of One Million Moms (When I checked, One Million Moms was liked by 47,062 people on Facebook. Not quite a million.), they are not even REALLY just a group of mothers, but are instead a hateful group of homophobes hiding behind the skirts of imaginary mommies.
I have to imagine that there are therapists all over the country literally salivating at the opportunity to get THESE nutjobs on a couch in their office. "So how long have you feared the gay man and imagined a great mother figure to defend you from your latent homosexual desires? Hmmm?"
As a general rule of thumb, any organization with the word "Family" in it is usually just a phony scam group run by extreme right wing zealots, like the Family Research Council, American Family Association, etc.
ReplyDeleteBristol can start "One Million Unwed Moms"
ReplyDeleteWin!
Delete"American Family Association (AFA) originally focused on what it considered indecent television programming and pornography. The AFA says it promotes "traditional moral values" in media."
DeleteHmmm, you would think they would definitely be against a show about a unwed mother, playing house with one of a string of "Daddies" for her son? No job to speak of.
Didn't even get a diploma, it was bought for her.
Promiscuous, Bar hopping, grifting, slut by her own admission...the list goes on.
Are they going to protest her show? Beefy's show?
Someone should bring it to their attention on their facebook page.
Don't they know that homosexuality is the best thing that can happen to a world that is overpopulated!
ReplyDeleteHelp convert the weak minded to homosexuality
reduced population, reduced unemployment
I think the first time I heard of Promise Keepers, I was weary. I don't understand this need to celebrate and put a title on normal things we are all expected to go about doing in this life, like for these men to make a commitment to an organization to be a good husband and father instead of the commitment they made in their vows to their bride. These are exactly the kind of people that are so offended by "Participation Badges" and spout that we are an Exceptional Nation when they put grasping, over-reaching troglodytes like Sarah Palin up as a mantle of leadership.
ReplyDeleteThe most judgmental and hypocritical people in our society are the ones that put "Christian, God, Jesus, Husband/Wife and/or Mother/Father" in their Twitter handle or Facebook descriptions. Why? What is the point? Are you worried we are going to not recognize you as a human being if you don't put that title down? Do you really have to walk around saying you are a good parent, a good spouse and Jesus is your best friend?
Why can't we just be good people and like each other for whatever common ground we have, like being human? If you need more, than being parents of similarly aged kids? From the same area? With similar interests - be it as simple as knitting to as advanced to restoring muscle cars?
People with righteous labels are the one I care least of engaging with, their superiority complex makes my skin crawl but it isn't that I'm wishing them judgement - I'm happy with them having a sense of comfort and happiness in life - but that they wish to take away our decisions, our privacy, our family planning rights and affordable care just smacks of a two-facedness that can't be explained away.
I'm venting and preaching to the choir.
I'm just a unchurched okay mom with good kids and a nice husband. We pay our taxes and donate to charities that fit with our style. It perplexes me that people like me are a threat or imperfect in the eyes of these viscous women in the 47,000 Moms group.
And I agree with Anon 4:56 - I'm sure inexplicably morally superior mean girls like the unmarried Bristol is considered a pillar of moral society over a normal person like me.
But then hey, I'm just a Hater and I just don't know them.
I'm praying for you.
DeleteExclusive: One Million Moms Deletes ‘Green Lantern Is Gay’ Post After Flood Of Pro-Gay Comments

Damn, Green Lantern is Gay? What was it, the form-fitting matching ensemble? Or the accessories?
DeleteHitler created the Nazi's because he was a homophobe or because he was "turned"? Why didn't my history teacher tell me this part? Now I get the uniforms and that march!!
ReplyDeleteYou can inhale gayness? Wow! Who knew?
And any Mom worthy of the title will love her child, no matter what kind of stripes he/she wears.
The homophobia just burns!!
""If President Obama, Congressional Democrats, and homosexual activists get their wish, your son or daughter may be forced to share military showers and barracks with active and open homosexuals who may very well view them with sexual interest." – AFA press release, February 2010".
ReplyDeleteWell gee, not that that doesn't already happen in gym dressing rooms, showers, YMCA/YWCAs, public swimming pool dressing rooms, etc. In fact, in any place where people get naked for whatever otherwise innocent reason. The military would be one of those places.
In theory at least, an organization of women who call themselves One Million Moms would be all about guarding their teenage and younger children. But here they are talking about members of the military who are old enough to make their own choices -- whether their doting parents approve of it or not.
So what would these homophobes propose? Shall we have laws that specify "might happen" and "if seen naked" or "may very well view". Possibly some other phrase even more vague?
To those members of One Million Moms who might read this, let me add: Get the fuck out of our lives and quite trying to dictate to other humans how they should live. If I want to look at another naked man in the shower it isn't because I'm looking for a hookup, it is a phenomenon we men know as curiosity about the competition, mentally comparing.
God, please give all of us a break from ignorance! Right now, please, and not a moment later.
Geez!
Guillotine !!!!!!
ReplyDeleteIf we had any reporters left that had balls, we'd be seeing documentaries laying bare the facts behind such hate groups.
ReplyDeleteThe Tea Party itself, is nothing more than a rich man's dream of conning the old white farts into hating everyone, especially the government (the one sending them social security checks faithfully, and paying for their medical expenses).
So right!
DeleteNo real jornos left w/ ballz!
True, if we had real journalists, there would be no need for the Southern Poverty Law Center, whom I respect and support as much as possible.
DeleteIsn't it ironic that to these hate groups, the word "Family" has little to do with real love, but with the gender of the parents?
