Rachel Maddow exposes the crazy conspiracy theories behind the Republican's "Fast and Furious" witch hunt

Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

I have been watching this unfold over this last week, and have become increasingly angry at what I clearly recognize as a witch hunt, however leave it up to Rachel Maddow to discover just how completely out of line and insane their crusade truly is.

By the way I just wanted to mention that I was there for the portion that Rachel talks about when she came up here to attempt an interview with Joe Miller, and was standing behind her when she was talking to the crazy, horribly uninformed Miller supporters on the street that day in Anchorage.

"Hey, I've read your blog!"
Even I, a lifetime Alaskan resident, was amazed at their complete lack of intelligence when it came to understanding just what they were supposed to be so angry about. Of course they were Joe Miller supporters, so what could you expect?

I always watch Rachel...her staff goes deep and she presents the most complicated story so even the learning impaired should understand. This story is so shameful, so obvious....you keep wondering how low this congress can really go. I agree wit Pelosi....they want Holder becuz of the other things hes doing, like voter suppression, DOMA and immigration. Ah, the legacy of Bush, will it ever end?? The Republican party deserves to die, lets hope 2012 is the last year for all of them.

  2. I used to have friends who lived and died by Fox news. On New Years Eve Day we were all together and politics came up. I made the mistake of saying how I get my world news from the BBC, CBC, NPR and the various news sites I read online. These friends informed me if I hated America so much to just leave. In their eyes Fox is the only news network for "real Americans." I have not had contact with them since....

It's amazing how politics is dividing family and friends today!!!

As to Rachel - I wish they'd put her on as a host of a Sunday show. She does an outstanding job - explains things well - does the research - and is very well educated. Don't forget that she has her doctorate!!! Dr. Maddow folks! She doesn't use it or flaunt it, so I will!

I think she is superior to any other host out there - on all channels and dials!

Love love love Rachel. I feel like I get a brain cell/IQ boost watching her. Perhaps a few notorious Wasilla residents could try that method of supplementing what they are sorely lacking in? #supplementbrainsnotboobs

I'm amazed that the idiots from Wasilla, AK (Sarah, Bristol and Toad 'the pimp') would get more coverage than someone like Dr. Rachel Maddow (as to responses on this blog).

The United States of America has become a third world country - we lack in education and it is no more apparent than today!

Rachel's is one show that always gets things right. She (and her staff) make the show one of my "go to's" for the news and the truth.

It IS a shame, what's become of today's politics and the GOP, but where were these people when Saint Ronald Regan, the standard bearer, the benchmark of excellence in the GOP, did the same exact thing, on a much grander scale, during the "Iran Contra" days?

I'm glad Rachel just happened to slip in the fact that Gabby Gifford's office was one who's windows were broken, and later almost killed in cold blood.

She is in a class by herself. I have this strange fantasy. By some inexplicable twist of fate, Palin appears on her show. The interaction is then posted on YouTube, titled - "Palin deconstructed and scattered to the wind." A boy can dream, can't he?

Gryphen, why didn't you chauffeur Rachel around Alaska when she was up there instead of Tank Jones?

Yes, I've always wondered how Tank Jones got into the middle of that.

OT: I'm a fan of Pelosi, most of the time, however when she refused to go after Rove and other corrupt bastards in the Bush Administration I was so pissed off! What she did just gave the green light for what continues today by the Rethuglicans. They know that no one from the Democratic party will ever challenge them so they just continue to thumb their noses at the American citizens and the low-information voters just think that they are dandy. If Nancy had taken Rove to task we may not have had to worry about him and his corrupt Crossroads money grubers for making mayhem again. Democrats need to quit bringing a knife to the 2012 Presidential gunfight!!!

I will have to watch online. I listened to Diane Rehm this am and i got so mad. Especially at that phoney baloney "lifelong Dem" caller who didn't get all the hope he wanted from Santa. And that smarmy Repub on the Committee. And Shep who contantly piped in with irrelevant comments (the sky is blue).

That "lifelong Dem" nonsense annoys me too. Democrats, like me, who truly are "lifelong Democrats" are very aware that President Obama has done a fantastic job given the circumstances: an economy in tatters as a result of the previous administration's gross failures and an opposition party that has chosen the path of treason rather than working towards a future for all Americans. "Lifelong Dems" want to see President Obama re-elected and they want to see him with a truly Democratic Congress.

  12. I tried to follow Dr. Maddow's explanation, but I still don't understand how the crazy ideas of a rube from Alabama (my beautiful home state) have resulted in a huge stink being visited at the feet of the Obama administration, resulting in Attorney General Holder potentially being formally charged with contempt.

How did our government get so out of whack? Are the inmates really running the asylum?

The corrupt and smarmy Darrell Issa is engaging in election year politics at its dirtiest level. House Republicans knew that Obama would assert Executive Privilege over the emails that they want. (They knew this because George W. Bush did the same thing in 2001.) The truth is that the Republicans don’t care about the facts surrounding Fast and Furious.

Republicans kept screaming to America about what a sad day for democracy this was, and they were right. It was sad that the majority on a committee would abuse their power in this way. It was sad that they thought the American people were so dumb as to fall for a contrived scandal like what the Republicans were pushing.

Even the media didn’t bite on this one. Issa was probably hoping for wall to wall cable coverage, but his big moment wasn’t even large enough to make it on to C-SPAN or C-SPAN 2. Issa’s big score was shuttled off to C-SPAN 3, and the cable news networks gave the vote itself scant live coverage.

In short, even the media was bored by such overtly partisan hackery.

The whole thing was more predetermined than Wrestlemania. When Rep. Dennis Kucinich asked Chairman Issa if he was prepared to go to court to test the President’s claim of Executive Privilege over the emails, which Republicans on the committee claimed were vital evidence, Issa’s answer indicated that he was planning to find Holder in contempt without the evidence.

The House Oversight Committee found Holder in contempt without even seeing the evidence that they claimed was essential. That is how much of a rigged game this was.

The whole investigation has been nothing, but a giant political con. Republicans are desperate for a scandal to attach to Obama, but they have been so shallow and transparent in their tactics that everyone knows what they are up to.

Yes, it is true that Palin has divided families. In fact, today, my own father and I had a horrible shouting match about Palin and her political 'accomplishments', not to mention Bristol's latest 'reality' show. All the FACTS about Palin would not deter him (see Malia's "Palin by the Numbers"). Unf*cking believable. Talk about stuck on stupid.

Yep, it's depressing to see this stupid, stupid woman (Sarah) turn people's minds into mush (mostly old, white men to be accurate).

I've never seen anything like this in my life.

These people (mostly Republicans) have lost their freaking minds. Democrats, too, have their issues that I take offense to, including Rachel - however, she IS obviously very intelligent, a trait I enjoy over that trailer trash Wasilla hillbilly who, because of her looks alone, got selected as a VP candidate.

America has become a nation of morons for the most part. We will NOT survive this onslaught of ignorance not to mention our military and political arrogance throughout our own country and the world The world hates us and we have no one other than ourselves to blame. In other words, we've become 'Idiocracy' (the movie).

Only the smart ones are going to survive this mess. There will be NO savior in either a political or religious venue. It's up to ourselves, as individuals, to help ourselves and our families. It's either that or go down with the sinking ship called 'America'. If you doubt me, look at Greece, Spain, Iceland (and other European countries) right now. You don't it can't happen here? Don't be stuck on stupid. I like Obama but even he can't save us. It's waaaaaaaay past the point of no return.
