Perhaps THIS has something to do with why Mittens will not release his tax returns.

Jesus what could have been so frightening in those returns that McCain would have overreacted so severely?

I think the American people have the right to know, don't you?

It doesn't take a genius to figure this one out...Bain income between 1999-2002, years where his tax liability was well below 14%, more offshore accounts, multimillion dollar IRA's, tax deductions for Ann's dancing horses, ridiculously low SSI payments for his housekeepers and maids, etc.

Romney has been living in his bubble of rarified air for so long he has absolutely no idea that getting elected president of the US, is not like getting elected chairman of the board. He thinks the rules don't apply, his lawyers and accountants can fix everything, and he doesn't owe anyone an explanation for anything. His ability to lie and obfuscate is breathtaking in light of concrete evidence of his actions.

This is only the beginning...if you think the Obama campaign isn't sitting on mountains of other filings, etc you sorely underestimate them.

We already know he got a $100K payment per year from them during the time he was supposedly not in charge.
Also Bain invested in a Chinese company in 1998, one that made sure jobs died here and were reborn overseas. This is one he cannot get away from no matter what he says.

    2. Willard is lying about Bain and it doesn't matter what the lie is about any more. It's the fact that he's LYING to the voters. His own party dislikes him already, now this Bain mess makes him a liability. He may be replaced at the GOP Convention. I hear the Ron Paul supporters have a plan in play. Let's hope!

hahahahahah the returns must have scared McCain. I mean, why else choose a middle class woman over a billionaire with interesting employment history.

Btw, I have no problems with Bain Capital. Nothing was illegal. People who are pisses should be pissed at their companies and higher ups for selling them out. All Bain and Co did was make agreements like good businessmen. THAT is business.

      I basically agree about Bain.

My biggest issue is that it is no model for how to run a government. You can't outsource the poor. Being president means that you have to balance the entire welfare of the nation, and all of its citizens, as efficiently as possible. That means providing a social safety net for the disadvantaged since cutting them off entirely will lead to a vast number of other problems that cause the economy great expense (i.e. crime, hospital care). Besides, its morally the right thing to do. There doesn't seem to be a single republican anymore that understands this principle.

Mittens is certainly one of the least qualified because of his experience at Bain. His experience as governor has more bearing, but he is currently totally unwilling to acknowledge that history in his campaign.

For anonymous 4:43 and those who responded: The problem I have with Bain is that there WERE no laws broken! And a lot of other companies fall into that same arena. When people created the free trade agreements they didn't expect (stupid, I know) that every business with no moral compass would immediately move where it was cheaper to operate and manufacture so they could make more money. Remember "That giant sucking sound!"?
The authors didn't put any penalties in place to prevent it or even slow it down. And now, with the Republicans in control of the House, our President hasn't a ghost of a chance of getting any kind of penalties in place. Hell, he can't even get them to remove the tax credits for the oil industry removed. And they have TOLD Congress they don't need it! And as far as I know, even suggesting that tax CREDITS be made for RETURNING can't pass them!
5:14? 4:43 makes a very valid point. Selling out to a known destroyer puts them in the same boat as the likes of Bain. And there are a lot of companies like them. He wasn't trying to say that what they did was right. Only not illegal.

    4. Anonymous6:28 AM

Really??? So you think it's moral to buy a company, rack up debt and use this borrowed Monet to pay your shareholders and then declare bankruptcy? This not only screwed the people in the company, it screws taxpayers. Are you one of those? This isn't good business. Are you out of your mind. Do you work in business?
This is sleezy and unethical. Making millions off the backs of people and screwing the government ( taxpayers) is a disgusting and immoral way of doing business.
Have you really read about all the ways Bain made money only for the purpose of paying its wealthy shareholders?

    5. Leland7:23 AM

Anonymous 6:28. Learn to read and COMPREHEND! Where exactly did I say ANYTHING remotely like it was good business? I said nothing about Bain being moral or doing GOOD business. I merely said they DID NOTHING ILLEGAL! And I further pointed out some of the other negative things business has been allowed to do. NOT ONCE did I say they were RIGHT in their actions or moral.

I thought I was quite clear in saying they way the laws are set up they could do as they pleased. I believe I even stated - obliquely, I'll admit - that the laws should be changed, but that with the Republicans in control of the House it would never happen.

And further. I believe that if you read again what I wrote you would see I even specified "Companies with no moral compass...". And I further stated that owners who sold out to destroyers like Bain were putting themselves in the same boat. Merely spreading the moral failures does not mean I said anything remotely like I was saying it was morally allowable.

As I said, learn to actually comprehend what someone writes.

And reread the last sentence. "He wasn't saying that what they did was right. Only not illegal." That is a far cry from saying what they did was right!

Maybe? Mitt Robme has been slippin' and slidin' around financial laws for years, skimming and skirting whenever possible because he CAN. After all he's rich, ultra rich and we all know that the laws don't really apply to the ultra rich, right? Well, that is the general mindset of those who feel they are 'entitled'. The chickens are coming home to roost with the national and international spotlight on Mitt in a way that has not happened before and he is squirming to learn that he can run but he can't hide...well not for much longer, anyway.

Obama is an astute, capable, brilliant politico when he needs to be and he has a stunning way of letting his adversaries have enough rope until they hang themselves, and then he just reels them in. This is fascinating watching how this a playing out. And all Robme can do is sputter and whine and deflect and call names and stamp his feet like a toddler. Presidential material? Not even.

But I don't think he's ever had his credibilitiy, his record, his pronouncements challenged in a serious, documented way until now. He's been a son of privledge, a CEO etc and he seems to think he can just say whatever he wants.

also--his severance from Bain was spread over ten years. That probably shows up in his tax returns in a big way.

You would think, but not really. McCain definitely didn't spend much time with Palin AT. ALL.

Also, strategically speaking, the campaign wants to cover more ground, so they split up the ticket.

But, You are right in that John McCain - and MOST of the BIG Rethugs, really, really, REALLY do. not. like. Mittens.

And these men are old money and all that. Mittens "came up" just fine. I think they are freaked out by his strict adherence to Mormonism (He's a member of a cult!), and his "oatmeal" personality.

*Now I know people will defend Mormonism by saying they know some kind Mormons. That does not mean those people are not in a cult.

If you REALLY want to defend Mormonism, you need to learn about Mormonism. Not just "approve" of it b/c you happen to know a nice family. That's great for them, but it's not about your friends/family, it's about the Mormon cult.

  14. Romney is a master at obfuscation, just like Nixon was, but maybe even better. He's hidden who knows how much money all around the world, and I bet his tax returns wouldn't help the taxman find it all.

That being said, do we really want a president so skilled at outmaneuvering the law? Both Bush and Obama stretched the constitution to the breaking point with the Patriot act and further attacks on freedom. And in case anyone thinks I'm a TeaParty crazy person, you can come and check out my Obama yard sign that has already been up a month, and if you knock on my door, chances are, I'll answer in my stylish 2012 Obama t-shirt (this year's shirts are way cool).

But the fact is, Romney is a cheater, and the last thing we need in the White House is an immoral (yes, for all his 5 beautiful kids and Morman crap, I think anyone who lies as much as this guy is totally immoral) scoundrel who is unused to being held accountable for his actions.

If anybody who reads this blog is still on the fence about the election (other than Kristy who probably supports Bristol/Willow 2012 and doesn't know what a Syria is), remember all the countries Willard thinks are our super enemies: Russia, China and, of course, Iran. He understands foreign relations as well as most of us understand particle physics. We'll be in another war fast, and only the military industrial complex will be happy. And the Supreme Court? He would quite possibly have 3 picks. Bye bye Roe vs. Wade and hello to an amendment that gives a brand new fertilized egg more rights than the being in which it lives.

Romney would be a disaster - maybe even worse than Bush.

Palin was chosen because she looked good, could fake that irksome folksy down-home charisma and could connect with the segments of the right that hated McCain. Simple.

Gryphen, once again you're off track here. All of this talk about ethics, morality and dishonesty is just a distraction from the real situation that you and your librul Bolshevik blog buddies are too myopic to see.

Mittens Rmoney IS going to be president. Sure, if it turns out he's a lying sack of shit, it wont be this year, fine. But Amercia has a very short memory. By 2016, this tempest in a toilet bowl will be forgotten and Mittens will be back as strong as ever working the GOP fundraisers like a surgically re-virginized street whore.

And if new allegations surface then, he'll scuttle back to his lair and wait for 2020. Or 2024. Or 2028!

Don't you understand, man, he will NEVER give up! He failed in 2008, he'll probably fail in 2012, 2016, and 2020. But he WILL keep trying.

Wouldnt it be a lot easier on everyone to just let the guy be president for 8 years starting in 2013 and get this nightmare over with? What harm could it do?

And this is why I'm endorsing Milliard Mittens "Mitt" Rmoney for president in 2012.

The key to the Bain attacks is to force Romney to disclose his tax returns. If he could show 23 years to john mccain why can't he show them to the American people? Did Romney do anything illegall? Very doubtful. His tax returns will show how decades of tax benefits will allow a member of the 1% to accumulate hundreds of millions of dollars with out even getting his hands dirty and only paying 15% or most likely lower at the same time..not to mention not taking responsibilities for business decision that directly made him money. Even if bain wasn't being actively managed by Romney he still made tens of millions of dollars from the company made deals that offshored jobs. He still profited from it and he can never run from that especially if his tax returns for the time are in the public eye. Obama's team wants to split the lower middle class blue collar voter from the republican party fold and romney being a symbol of the benefits of the 1% could do it.
