Oh and by the way since many of you were asking, yes I recognize this guy's point, but I find his timing insensitive and unnecessarily provocative.
I feel that what the President said yesterday, whether I am a person of faith or not, was the correct and appropriate response for a grieving nation.
And speaking of appropriate responses, this from "The Dark Knight Rises" director Christopher Nolan:
Speaking on behalf of the cast and crew of The Dark Knight Rises, I would like to express our profound sorrow at the senseless tragedy that has befallen the entire Aurora community. I would not presume to know anything about the victims of the shooting but that they were there last night to watch a movie. I believe movies are one of the great American art forms and the shared experience of watching a story unfold on screen is an important and joyful pastime. The movie theatre is my home, and the idea that someone would violate that innocent and hopeful place in such an unbearably savage way is devastating to me. Nothing any of us can say could ever adequately express our feelings for the innocent victims of this appalling crime, but our thoughts are with them and their families.
He be from Texas, land of simplicity.......where the simple-minded politicians opine "simple as that"........
ReplyDeleteAs a christian believer, I see the message of Christ in President Obama's words yesterday, where he humbly contemplates how evil in this world happens, and that what's important at the end of the day is for us to walk in Christ's footsteps and overcome with love. He spoke the gospel message. He gets it.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, Mr. Gohmert, who claims he is afraid that Judeo-Christian beliefs are attacked, doesn't encourage people to lay down weapons as Christ would have, "turning swords into plowshares". He, like so many on the fringes of christian right, believe it's their mission to "fight" against evil in a warfare mentality, and building a Kingdom on earth by force, or armed defense. His understanding of gospel message, is a false belief that christians are supposed to rise up as an army and fight back, which is wrong. In fact, the Bible explicitly teaches that the those who follow the Lamb of God are going to be targets of misunderstanding (persecution), but to regard it as a spiritual battle and fight back with the armor of God, which the first one is peace.....and 5 others......am still on my first cup of coffee.
The Bible is bullshit. Stop drinking coffee and start educating yourself about how it came to be in the first place. It is hardly "the word of God," it is very much the words of many men -- period.

No YOU are full of bullshit!
I am not a "christian" yet Anonymous3:27 AM put it very well and You don't get it!
Its supposed to be about we are all connected on this earth. Humans, animals, plants, trees, Mountains."lay down weapons as Christ would have, "turning swords into plowshares" is very relevant here.
Instead this christian clown Gohmert says MORE guns would of prevented all the people from getting killed and I call BULLSHIT ON THAT!
This motherfucker had over three guns all Legally bought! The laws must change.
The R's will sell a gun to a Illegal before they will let him vote!
This country has turned into crazy gun toting idiots spewing nonsense.
Well said, 3:27. The Gospel has a powerful message of love, compassion and courage which all can take inspiration from.
DeleteIt's too bad Gohmert doesn't seem to have been able to comprehend it. And certainly doesn't choose to live it.
Gohmert and others who call themselves Christians but who preach a message of hate aren't following a spiritual path. They are following a path of self-righteousness, self-aggrandizement, greed and aggression. They are serving ignorance, not wisdom and are interested only in self-gratification.
There is a belief among the hard core evangelicals that the founding fathers "assumed everyone would be a Christian of some sort".
ReplyDeleteThey are apparently taught this so they can misinterpret
the US Constitution and be able to counteract clauses like Article 6, paragraph 3 where it states
“but no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States“
The evangelicals then can twist this most important mandate , and say that since everyone was assumed to be Christian, paragraph 3 only applied to the various sects and movements within Christianity.
This clearly perverts the true intent of the our secular Republic, and underlines how much they want a theocracy, and to codify laws based on the bible, instead of the US Constitution.
This behavior is despicable, and Gohmert is a sadly deluded fool to say something like that.
And it's not the first time Louie has embarrased himself and his country by being a total asshole, since he advocated for reducing ALL corporate income taxes to ZERO, ZIP, nada.
Yep, that sure makes sense letting the robber barons, the banksters, and the corporate fucks like the KOCH brothers pay ZERO taxes, while the rest of us pay our 20%.

This Republican representative clearly suffers false beliefs that his affiliation group is immune to mental illness manifesting in pathalogical revenge in acts of depraved indifference of innocent human life. His statement screams a message that his kind, judeo christian, do not do these things.
ReplyDeleteThis is rich considering republican Sarah Palin who formerly was their prominent christian who is incapable of self improvement dependent on revenge destroying people using words as tools and weapons.
Sociopaths I have encountered claim to be pillars of christian church communities claiming to serve God. Evil persons who do evil defining themselves serving God are preying in those who truly live with a moral
compass.
That includes abusive parents, blamers, who have polarized thinking, poster personalities of dysfunction who get a free pass lying God is on their side.
I was watching Anderson Cooper question this right wing fanatic Gohmert about his terror babies rant. Anderson pointed out that this had been debunked as absurd but Gohmert would't backdown. Then Gohmert brought up that he had been a JUDGE (in the style of "Judge" Roy Bean I would imagine). He then said "Anderson you use to be good..what happened." To his credit Cooper laughed at him. After the interview was over another journalist said about Gohmert ... "People say if you think he's bad you should see his constituents". That explains alot.

DeleteThat's the same problem with Shelly - her constituents are far crazier than her. One of her main counties has the highest rate of incest in the country. That much inbreeding can only lead you to doom.
Chances are, James Holmes is a Christian. And then, there's the fact that he shot up innocents in a movie theater, not a church.
ReplyDeleteSo, is this a war on Judeo-Christians the same way there is a war on Christmas?
Fuck you Gohmert. Why don't you stay asleep on the dais.
This development deserves empathy, introspection and mourning, not a fucking dog-whistle for fundies to bemoan the loss of their strangle-hold on all facets of America, in terms of wealth, sex and health disparities.
And I hate people like you, YOU people, who bring out hate and ire in a populace who normally handle these situations with brevity.
I doubt if I'm the first person to think that we should not just allow, but enthusiastically encourage Texas to secede from the Union.
ReplyDeleteRemember when wackjob Chuck Norris wanted them to secede so he could be President of Texas? There is Alot of crazy going on in that state.
DeleteHate Group Blames Colorado Massacre on America’s Lost Fear of God
ReplyDelete“You wonder why all these terrible things are happening to us when there is no fear of God.”

If it is God's intention to subsidize faith with fear and violence, then I say to hell with him.
Delete“Mitt Gets Worse”
ReplyDeletehttp://mittgetsworse.org/category/videos/
These professed and loathsome "Christians" are the worst examples of what true Christians are all about. They certainly do not follow Christ's teachings but pick and choose what suits their agenda. Jesus would have thrown them out of the temples for their lies, bigotry, self-serving agendas.
ReplyDeleteI feel the President's words were appropriate (BTW where's the outrage that a "secret muslim" is quoting the bible"?)
ReplyDeleteMitt Romney's message was very similar, and he believes God appeared to some dude in Utah and said he's cool with polygamy, then made two saints appear and the dude was so impressed that he took dictation and wrote "The book of Mormon". But he didn't quote the book of Mormons.
Gohmert's reaction is common, atheists aren't "anti judeo christian", they simply don't believe in any religion.
