"Look Mitt, I'm lying even better than you!" |
Not only were most minorities kept out of the building, but the truth itself was persona non grata as well.
So the fact that Paul Ryan played fast and loose with the truth should not come as much of a surprise. Both MSNBC and CNN could not miss the plethora of lies that fell easily form the lips of Ryan.
However what might be of some surprise, at least it surprised me, is that there were indeed SO MANY lies that even Fox News could not take it.
Fact: While Ryan tried to pin the downgrade of the United States’ credit rating on spending under President Obama, the credit rating was actually downgraded because Republicans threatened not to raise the debt ceiling.
Fact: While Ryan blamed President Obama for the shut down of a GM plant in Janesville, Wisconsin, the plant was actually closed under President George W. Bush. Ryan actually asked for federal spending to save the plant, while Romney has criticized the auto industry bailout that President Obama ultimately enacted to prevent other plants from closing.
Fact: Though Ryan insisted that President Obama wants to give all the credit for private sector success to government, that isn't what the president said. Period.
Fact: Though Paul Ryan accused President Obama of taking $716 billion out of Medicare, the fact is that that amount was savings in Medicare reimbursement rates (which, incidentally, save Medicare recipients out-of-pocket costs, too) and Ryan himself embraced these savings in his budget plan.
Elections should be about competing based on your record in the past and your vision for the future, not competing to see who can get away with the most lies and distortions without voters noticing or bother to care. Both parties should hold themselves to that standard. Republicans should be ashamed that there was even one misrepresentation in Ryan’s speech but sadly, there were many.

You know just like an ACTUAL news organization would do.
Update: You know if Paul Ryan wants to keep telling the lie about that GM plant closing on Obama's watch, he may want to scrub the internet of this photo.
Hmm, now WHO again was the President in December of 2008?
Sally Kohn is great.
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile, Mr. Obama actually said he thinks there should be a Constitutional amendment to overturn the Citizens United decision. Yea!

lol, the link is deceptive, the headline is that her contract MAY NOT be renewed..Mystery speaker is dirty harry, she's officially been kicked to the curb...

DeleteShe has been poison for political discourse since she was foisted by McCain on America and showed the way right-wing politicians how to campaign. She is a sickness and has legitimized arrogant ignorance.
She needs to be quiet once and for all.
Time to make another donation to Obama... anything to keep the GOP liars from having their way. Good on the overall media to call Ryan out!
ReplyDelete+2 (my husband and I both contributed this week)
DeleteSame here. The Ryan lie fest encouraged me to donate. Thanks GOP! You're helping President Obama!
DeleteI made another donation to Obama during the Ryan lies, too. Just like I did after listening to Sarah 4 years ago.
DeleteI have been contributing every month since the beginning of his campaign for 4 more years. Bless Pres. Obama!
Delete@ Ardiva and all, Same here... Making another donation tonight after Mitt. The GOP do indeed make it easy to support the president.
DeleteI'm always sending donations, especially when they're matched or triple matched. I keep wishing I would win the lottery, but send the money on a sure thing instead.
DeleteIt is amazing Fox would make known to their viewers the lies Ryan said during his speech. While that is truly surprising, I have noticed what may be a slight change for the better at Fox. Recently I've noticed a couple instances of Fox actually being fair towards the Democrats, but I'm still not ready to say they are improving until I see a definite trend. Hopefully, they are starting to turn themselves around into a real news organization and not just a Republican propaganda site.
ReplyDeleteAnd MSNBC is not a Democratic propaganda site?
Deletea news site that reports facts and opinons versus one that reports misleading information and inflammatory opinion.
Deletehmmm.
I read an article recently (sorry can't remember where) that discussed how Fox News was secretly rooting for President Obama to maintain it's ratings and how a Republican administration would render their programs dull and boring. Makes sense to me, every gripping story needs a good protagonist. What better for Fox viewers than a black Democratic president with a foreign father and a foreign sounding name!

DeleteGeez, why does Palin have to be injected into every thread? This thread is not about her.
Anonymous 3:33 - don't look now but the only one of the 2 of us who mentioned her is you!

The tv was on in another room last night with Fox and the RNC on. I was repairing the refrigerator and couldn't believe it when as soon as Paul Ryan was done Chris Wallace discussed some of the things that were not true. I was stunned and I don't remember what exactly he said, but I'm pretty sure the Janesville plant shut down was one of them.
ReplyDeleteI can't find the clip, did anyone else hear this?
Behind the Latest Palin-Fox Fight
ReplyDeleteSarah Palin's Fox News Contract May Not Be Renewed: NY Mag
Last night's kerfuffle between Sarah Palin and Fox News was a classic display of Sarah Palin being, well, Sarah Palin. But her Facebook outburst complaining about Fox canceling her appearance at the Republic National Convention reveals something deeper about Palin’s often rocky relationship with the network. Palin's contract is up in January, and according to sources, Fox News executives are now weighing what kind of deal they would sign, if they sign one at all.
Essentially, Palin and Fox are in the early stages of an elaborate contract negotiation. Palin earns roughly $1 million per year from Fox, making her the highest paid contributor at the network. Fox executives have been disappointed with her ratings; Palin has been disappointed by Fox's decision to not give her top billing on bookings. According to sources, the relationship at times has gotten so bad that much communication has been conducted via Palin’s husband Todd. One thing is clear: It's risky for her to push the envelope too far. Fox has been a central pillar of Palin’s national reach since quitting the governorship, and without the network's platform, it's unclear how she could maintain even her current, much-diminished level of visibility.
Palin's Facebook outburst surely didn't endear her to Roger Ailes, who prizes message discipline and loyalty among his troops. Ailes has been at times frustrated with Palin's erratic public moves since her decision to ignore his advice to remain quiet in the wake of the Gabrielle Giffords shooting in 2011. Palin crossed him again when she gave her decision not to run to talk radio host Mark Levin, not Fox.
For now, both sides are making peace. Fox offered an olive branch this afternoon and returned Palin to the conversation via a phone interview with Megyn Kelly. Later tonight, she'll be on with Sean Hannity and Neil Cavuto.
Palin's agent Bob Barnett did not respond to a request for comment; Fox spokesperson Brian Lewis said: "We look forward to having a long and beneficial relationship with the Governor."
http://nymag.com/daily/intel/2012/08/behind-the-latest-palin-fox-fight.html
Fox is probably just embarrassed that it got fleeced out of all that money by such an obvious grifter for so long
DeleteI'm sorry, Mr. Lewis, what Governor is that?
DeleteEverybody keeps mentioning that Sarah Palin hasn't endorsed or hasn't praised Mitt Romney yet but nobody hasn't figured out why or hasn't mentioned why.
ReplyDeleteWell you are about to hear it first right here in the Immoral Minority.
The reason Sarah hasn't endorsed Romney is because Sarah needs President Obama to win in order for her to stay employed.
If Romney wins then FOX doesn't need Sarah Palin anymore to attack President Obama because Sarah would then be useless since she doesn't have anything else to say anymore.
It is President Obama who is keeping Sarah Palin employed which enables her to buy her face lifts, wigs, tighten up her turkey neck and bailing out her children and supplying them and Todd with lawyers to keep their troubles out of court and out of the public.
Sarah Palin is to President Obama as the Washington Generals are to the Harlem Globetrotters.
No Harlem Globetrotters and the Washington Generals cease to exist!
No President Obama and Sarah Palin will cease to exist!
She is also SOOOOOO jealous that she isn't in the "big game." She is a bitter woman who doesn't want anyone but herself to succeed.
DeleteThat is the perfect analogy for Sarah--- best I've heard. For some reason, that "clicks" with my simple mind.
DeleteJust about the same level of competition, also, too, as the Globetrotters once only lost 2 games over a 38-year period to the Washington Generals, winning more than 12,000 games.
I guess over a 38-year period, President Obama might make a mistake filling out paperwork and Sarah would "win" a couple. Naaah, maybe once, but not twice.
But I agree. No Obama, no still spine Sarah.
(CNN) - Clint Eastwood will be the "mystery guest" at the Republican National Convention's final night, a GOP source confirmed Thursday.
ReplyDeleteEastwood, a longtime Republican, is expected to walk through the convention floor in the afternoon for a brief rundown of the night's events.
http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2012/08/30/solved-eastwood-is-rnc-mystery-guest/
I love Clint Eastwood as an actor and a director, but I also know and disagree heartily with his politics. You have to wonder what exactly about this election made him agree to be a speaker at the RNC.
DeleteSarah's pissed, I'll bet. Tahd drove that friggin' bus for 3 days through a hurricane to get her down there, and Pfffft! They chose Clint, a lesser celebrity!
DeleteHoly shit batman... "“The demographics race we’re losing badly,” said Sen. Lindsey O. Graham (S.C.). “We’re not generating enough angry white guys to stay in business for the long term.”"
ReplyDeleteLOL sounds like something Sarah Palin would do.
ReplyDelete"In order to maintain control over all official campaign souvenirs, the Romney-Ryan campaign has barred small vendors from selling campaign buttons and other political souvenirs at the RNC, KCBS found. As a result, small vendors are "are conspicuously absent" from the convention, the news outlet reported."

I so wanted a Mitt Rmoney button for my collection ;-( So.Sad.
DeleteUmmm so much for supporting small business!!
Deletejob creator? not so much eh.
DeleteWhy would Ryan purposely lie? Did he not see what happened to Collin Powell........... or maybe Karl said buddy just do it cause we will cook the numbers the nite of the vote....good boy.
ReplyDeleteBecause his boss doesn't need to be popular or truthful or anything else: he intends to buy the White House.
Deletelow information voters do not fact check.
Deletethey do not believe their relatives who do fact check and try to correct the record.
they do not think - they check the box at the top of the ballot and call themselves patriots.
You owe me a new keyboard for that headline dammit. I just spit wine all over the place.
ReplyDeleteWhat always amazes me is the ease in which the GOP lies...it's like breathing. Their total platform is based on giving the insatiable rich more, shredding the lives of anyone less and controlling women, oh and more wars. How Obama has managed to do as much as he has is a plain miracle. America...please give us 4 more years with a Democratic congress and senate and just watch us soar.
ReplyDeleteHere Here! Ditto!
DeleteOT but according to twitter chatter Clint Eastwood is the surprise guest. NOT SARAH! It took 4 freaking years but the 15 mins of Sarah is OVER. We did it guys! We win! Sarah loses! She's not good enough! GOP got her to sit down and shut up. Woohoo
ReplyDeleteoff-topic, but have you noticed how the tempest in a teacup (pun intended) concerning the "use of teleprompters by President Obama" has disappeared ... no comments despite the pics of Ann R-money and others practicing with the teleprompters. *SMH* The level of "stupid" is just overwheming
ReplyDeleteGryphen, Sally Kohn is indeed the person at Fox who wrote that indictment of Ryan's lies -- but be aware she writes only an OPINION column for them, and occasionally serves as the token liberal on their panels.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure Fox Nation has attacked her in the coarsest of terms for that column.
She's also their token Rachel Maddow; a woman who doesn't look like a bimbo or blow-up doll, and is a lesbian.
Four more years of Obama bashing is much better for Faux News than ANY time trying to make Romney look good. They know which side their bread is buttered on. (The hate side.)
ReplyDelete^^^^this says it all
DeleteMaybe it is time to re-read the article from the Daily Beast before we hear Mitt's speech to night.
ReplyDeleteWhy we can expect Romney to lie, by someone who should know: Brigham Young's great-great-granddaughter, Sue Emmet. As detailed by to Jamie Reno in the Daily Beast on August 7, 2012. I am quoting three paragraphs from the article, which I hope does not exceed fair use:
Emmett says she thinks Romney’s biggest fault is that he has a “serious problem telling the truth. There is flip-flopping, which he has done more than any politician in modern history, and then there is out and out lying,” she says. “This kind of thing has sadly been a part of the church from the very beginning. Some modern apostles actually taught that it is not always the best thing to tell the truth if it interferes with preaching gospel.”
Emmett says the notion of “Lying for the Lord,” as it has been called, implies that teaching the whole truth about the church should be avoided. At a presentation on Lying for the Lord at the 2008 Exmormon Foundation conference, Ken Clark addressed the issue. Clark, who worked as a teacher for the LDS Church Education System (CES) for 27 years and also served as a bishop before leaving the church in 2003, tells The Daily Beast, “Lying has become an institutionalized method of administrative control with the church.”
“Every Mormon grows up with the idea that it’s OK to lie if it’s for a higher cause,” says Clark, who now works for a company that markets employment and labor market data. “But what happens is when this becomes a part of your ethical tool kit, you develop a condescending attitude toward people. Like Ann Romney saying 'you people.’ This idea of lying for the Lord gives you license to place people on an inferior level. It’s OK for Mitt Romney to ignore the principle of full disclosure because it’s in his DNA. Look what he’s doing with his taxes, and how he talks only in generic and sanitized terms about his religion.”
The Daily Beast:

Intriguing, but sadly the article does not appear there...anywhere that I can find it. Maybe not so good at this, but do you have a link to the story>
DeleteJamie Reno in the Daily Beast on August 7, 2012.
Deletehttp://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2012/08/07/exclusive-brigham-young-s-great-great-granddaughter-on-mormonism-and-mitt-romney.html
Ah, erm, unh, between my two husbands, I dated a sociopath for four years. Even HE would never have lied that blatantly to the WHOLE WORLD!
ReplyDeleteI think Mitt’s excuse is that he got dropped on the head (just a guess), was in a car accident, can’t have alcohol, or is a Mormon and they always lie, but what the HELL is Ryan’s excuse?
Sally Kohn, sincere good wishes to you.
The GOP’s Mitt makeover isn’t going over well with American television viewers. Compared to night two of the 2008 Republican convention, viewership is down by 17 million.
ReplyDeletePaul Ryan is no Sarah Palin. The viewership for Paul Ryan’s speech was down across every network compared to what Sarah Palin averaged in 2008. NBC was down 3.5 million viewers. ABC was down three million viewers. CBS and MSNBC were down 2 million viewers each. CNN lost a whopping 5 million viewers compared to Palin’s 2008 speech. Even Fox News was down 1.5 million viewers. In total, only 20 million people tuned in for Paul Ryan compared to the 37 million who watched Sarah Palin.
Ryan’s ratings nosedive isn’t the Republican convention’s only problem. Only Fox News and ABC saw their viewership rise or stay the same from night one to night two. Fox News saw their viewership rise from 6.89 million on night one to 7.70 million on night two, while ABC has drawn to 2.86 million viewers on each night.
What really jumps out in the ratings data is how limited the appeal of this convention is. Fox News has led the ratings for all networks on both nights. If the Romney campaign was hoping to reach Independents with their convention, it isn’t working. Over one third of the total audience is coming from the Republican cheering section known as Fox News.
Ryan’s ratings collapse highlights his limited popularity. As you could tell by the reception in the convention hall, Paul Ryan is beloved by the right. His appeal though seems limited just to the right. Ryan and the Romney campaign did themselves no favors by having him give a speech that was loaded with falsehoods, while also being completely devoid of any hope, optimism, or vision for the future.
Republicans love nasty negative politics, but America doesn’t. Voters love optimism and vision, but Mitt Romney has not highlighted any of this during his convention. Instead the Republican Party has presented an angry gloom and doom fest where speaker after speaker tell us all how lousy everything is, and that it is all Barack Obama’s fault.
Since voters don’t like Mitt Romney, it seems the Republican Party has decided that it must terrify America into supporting him. That type of strategy makes for a depressing convention, and even worse, it’s bad television.
Paul Ryan’s speech was delivered like an oral book report by someone who was making up the book as he went along. It is no surprise that viewers aren’t tuning in to the Republican convention. This is convention that lacks warmth, charisma, and star power.
The Republicans were hoping to reinvent Mitt Romney, but they got was confirmation that America is just not into both of them.
