Mitt Romney hires Journey to perform during convention. And almost drives a stake through the heart of my rock and roll memories.

"Are you sure hiring the sad leftovers of a once popular eighties rock and roll band to play at the convention will make me look cool? Okay then, roll on! Oh, it's ROCK on?"
Courtesy of Christian Post:

As part of the Republican National Convention, Mitt Romney has called on the timeless band Journey to perform at a fundraiser.

Many other big acts, however, are steering clear of both conventions. Journey has not officially endorsed the presumptive Republican presidential candidate and said they are treating this show as just another paid performance.

I must confess that Journey is my ALL TIME favorite band. So this news hit me like a punch to the  groin.

But then I remembered that Journey ain't Journey anymore.

The iconic, and amazing gifted singer, Steve Perry left the band permanently in 1998, to be replaced by the lead singer from a Journey "cover band." I'm sorry if you DON'T have Steve Perry you DON'T have Journey.

So that is good news at least.

In other news the lead guitarist Neal Schon is still banging Michaele Salahi, one half of the duo that crashed a White House party in 2009, and she will be at the convention as well. You know to class up the joint.

By the way I feel this is the appropriate place to put a video if the REAL Journey performing their song "Don't Stop Believing."

Now THAT is Journey!

  1. Gryph, one of my absolute favorite songs of all time ever is "Feeling That Way." When Steve Perry's vocal joins with the chorus it's like a soaring blaze of light; it always gives me chills. (When the summer's gone, she'll be there, standing by the li-i-ite...) To this day, I never get tired of hearing it. (It's in the workout mix on the IPod.)

Glad to hear Steve is not a party to the RNC circus.

Why would Journey remain a band without its original lead? A band that famous is famous for a reason, and that reason is ALWAYS its members.

    1. Especially THIS one since their sound was essentially defined by Perry's amazing voice.

      Without him, they are nothing.

When I was listening to the song I was wondering the same thing. I haven't heard anything from them in years, and that's probably the answers.

I hate to say this but I jettisoned Journey when Greg Rollie left the band.

Journey simply evolved as many big bands have. Reality of life---Steve Perry could not sing the songs anymore. Foreigner, Van Halen (Van Hagar for a time), etc. etc. but we love the songs performed live by as many original members as can make it happen. Still producing fine music, even with "Cover Boy" Arnel Pineda. Arnel will never be "The Voice" that Perry was, there will never again be Escape/Frontiers albums, but he is a better Perry today than Steve is...I wish that I could turn back the clock 30 years and see Journey again in all their glory. Today we have a capable lead singer in Journey---Go Arnel!!

"Don't stop believing" yes, it so suits because the Republicans have become the party of "faith" instead of "fact".

Steve Perry would be rolling over in his grave. (I saw the real Journey with Steve's incredible voice live in Atlanta back in the 80's)

HW, Steve Perry would not be rolling over in his grave, because thankfully, he is still alive. Every year he does a question / answer for his fans, which you can read on fanasylum.

Sorry about that - I realized that shortly after typing it. But Steve did have throat cancer and for some reason I thought that he had died from it a few years back. Glad I am wrong.

And they got them for the small price of a half a mil. How ironic they have to buy their bands.

Good article in RS about all of the musical acts playing private gigs at RNC.

...A Journey spokesperson backs up that claim: "It's not an endorsement of any candidate and/or party – it's just another private show," says the spokesperson. "These dates are simply listed as 'Private Event' on the tour grid." What's indisputable is the high price of the evening: a package of six tickets to both shows (Journey and B-52's) starts at a minimum of $45,000.
    ...

...RS asked a Romney spokesman if Romney was aware of Kid Rock lyrics, like, "I like pussy, suckin' on titties/ Fucked a lot of different bitches from a bunch of different cities," "Been fuelin' up on cocaine and whiskey," and "I don't want to be your friend/ I want to fuck you like I'm never gonna see you again." Or how about the early Rock song, "Early Mornin' Stoned Pimp"?

"Umm, hmmm . . . right, OK," a Romney spokesperson said after hearing those lyrics. "Let me check on this stuff and I'll get back to you." At press time, Rolling Stone had not yet heard back.

"I'll get back to you" just like Sarah's "I'll find one and get back to ya!". Kid Rock will be retroactively fired after the convention's over.

Have you heard the New Steve Perry? It's uncanny how similar the voices are, which only makes the whole thing creepy. Journey is not Journey anymore- just a mimic band,

The lead singer is Arnel Pineda. He's from the Phillipines and joined the bankd in early 2008.

The only reason I know is I saw an interview of he and the band shortly after he joined. He was in a band and they had put some of their stuff on youtube and he was contacted to audition for lead singer.

      Another youtube find.

Her shoes get slippery from the sweat and tan spray and her feet just sliiiiide down her shoes. lol

Kicking up that desert dust sticking to her sweaty feet, she's going to ruin the bed linens and the carpet in her hotel room if she walks around in bare feet. Wash your fucking feet, Sarah! I can smell them all the way down here in Tampa.

I told you a while back that Sarah ordered a half dozen of those padded panties, let's call them butt enhancers, so I won't have to think about Sarah and "panty pads" (yuck!) for her flat bony ass. Be sure and check SarahPAC expenditures for next quarter for Fantasy Belles. It'll be expensed in the "postage" category, like everything else.

You're too kind. Sarah dresses like a whore.

But as frumpy as she's been looking in her clothes lately, even the old farts in the Teabaggers have a hard time fantasizing about Sarah and her old bag of bones look.

With her new fake specs, Sarah wants to be thought of like C.E. Cupp, but she's been looking more like two girls and one cup. Don't google that and if you do, just remember it was Sarah's concept originally for Bristol and her to make some $$$ if the reality show circuit didn't work out.

But yes, you are correct, Steve Perry was the voice of Journey. They were my first band to follow and see in concert in HS/College in the 80's. That they are playing at the RNC disturbs me. I do think it's funny that Neal is still banging Michaela also, too! I guess HER MS ain't all that bad lol!
