Obama campaign strikes back at GOP claims that Joe Biden is not "mentally competent" or "bright" enough to be VP by using a bludgeon called "Sarah Palin."

"Yeah, what kind of Presidential candidate would want an idiot like Joe Biden on the ticket?"
This courtesy of Politicususa:

While responding to Rudy Giuliani’s assertion that Vice President Biden is mentally incompetent and a joke, Stephanie Cutter shut down all vice presidential behavior talk by reminding Republicans what real mental incompetence looks like.

video platform video management video solutions video player TAPPER: But isn’t the fact that these remarks are being attacked by both Democrats and Republicans, doesn’t that suggest that Vice President Biden to a degree has become something of a liability?

CUTTER: Absolutely not. And, you know, on Mr. Giuliani’s remarks, I would like to point back to his glowing introduction of Sarah Palin during the 2008 convention. So if he wants to criticize the capacity of a vice president to take hold of this country, he should go back and look at those remarks and whether he still believes that they’re true. The vice president is a critical partner to the president of the United States. Joe Biden is out there every single day talking about our vision of where we want to take this country.

Sometimes I believe that the Republicans are the LEAST introspective people on the planet.

As long as they bear the shame of having chosen Sarah Palin as their number two for the 2008 ticket, they should forever keep their mouths shut when it comes to giving advice about the mental competence of any other political party's choice for their running mate.

And good for Stephanie Cutter for not pulling her punches,. Though she DID say it far more politely than  I would have said it, that's for damn sure!

I love the fact that the Obama/Biden team is hitting back hard at the Republicans! They should after all the CRAP that has been horribly spewed for the four+ that began on the campaign trail w/Sarah Palin! And, it hasn't stopped since then - especially against President Obama (who has done an outstanding job in spite of them!).

And, the fact the White House Press is crying the blues just cracks me up. They think themselves so superior to the 'entertainment' people/show the President and Mrs. Obama recently interviewed - Monday night showing more of the interview!

Don't know about the rest of you, but I sincerely appreciate the fact the president and his wife are out there trying to reach ALL Americans across the nation.

Chuck Todd is an ass! Never have liked him and turn the channel as soon as I see his face! He has an attitude that is for sure!

And, VP Biden and his wife are wonderful assets to their reelection campaign! They have ALL represented us so well.

The Republicans are just throwing anything negative out there that they think will muddy the water for our president and vice president. They cannot find much else so we are down to this CRAP.

Palin started the zingers about Joe Biden - McCain followed and off it went. Amazing!!!

Someone might remind Mr. 9/11 that Biden NEVER married his cousin like he did, nor EVER dressed in dressess and makeup like he did. Questioning someone's mental capacity should be left to people who actually have some of their own! Bob Schieffer let Rudy spew the lie about $716 Billion taken from Medicare by President Obama. He should have given Dick Durbin a chance to refute that, just the way Soledad O'Brien did with Sununnu. Being superficial here, but how come the repub. party attracts the uglies?

Rudy Guliani? I'm impressed that he was finally able to say two sentences without referring to 9/11 and the terrorists. Rudy is the joke that was the early GOP favorite in the 2008 primary who didn't bother to campaign until Florida where he thought he was a heavy favorite. After he was crushed in the Florida primary, he was never a factor again. And still isn't. It's time we heard what Herman Cain thinks about Joe Biden. Then Trump. lol

Hey Mitt, when you run through everyone in the clown car commenting on Joe as VP as a distraction, we still want to see your tax returns. Or not, and you can be in the same pile of GOP "never was" or "has beens" like Quayle, Palin, etc.

They chose to attack Biden because his approval numbers are the lowest of the close Obama advisers. They also pick on Biden simply because their base needs an animate enemy on whom to focus their attack. This way, they do not have to discuss the issues.

In the 2010 midterm elections, they used Nancy Pelosi, and Harry Reid as the enemies. This is a very common, time-tested Republican strategy.

He provides a stark contrast to the carefully scripted, cottage cheese comments offered by Mitt Romney. So occasionally he puts his foot in his mouth. Joe Biden does not need to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars as Sarah Palin has to learn what is going in the world. Joe Biden knows more than most what is going on in the world. He actually reads newspapers and books, etc.... He has actually visited all the hot spots in the world. He has had actually conversations with the major players - he knows them; they know him.

Vice President Biden has done an excellent job; he is supremely well suited because of his long experience in Congress and he and President Obama complement each other well and get along together so well. No big ego issues between them.

The GOP brouhaha over Vice President's mention of the word "chains" is absolutely ludicrous; their assumption is that no one understands a metaphor when it is spoken. Frankly the modern GOP, child of the Koch Brothers and their billionaire right-wing buddies, will leave all of us "chained" - to a failed country where the 99% does nothing but serve the 1%, to a failed civilization where the refusal to face the reality of climate change brings devastation to generations to come. Sarah showed us last summer what her problem is-- she simply cannot learn anything, no matter how simple the lesson. During Sarah's Family Vacation/One Nation Bus Tour, she visited Paul Revere's home and heard the guide tell the story of The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere. Most of us learned that lesson in school, so the guide would just be reinforcing something that we learned-- maybe adding some new details.

Sarah came and and was asked what she took away from her visit. In her disjointed ramblings, we were treated to a vision of Revere firing those warning shots and ringing those bells. Revere warned the British that they wouldn't be taking away our arms. If Sarah couldn't remember a simple lesson of history five minutes after the guide told the story, Sarah never learned and retained anything during school, or in the course of her political career. She cannot learn anything.

Joe has been such an asset to the team that I think they are quite nervous about the VP debate. . .hence the calls for replacing Joe as VP w/ Hilary.

I think that maybe they just assumed Hilary was going to be the candidate in 2008 and they had "oppositional research " on her that they didn't have an opportunity to use.

She has been doing an excellent job as Sect of State!

It seemed "odd" that both McCain, Palin, and others were suggesting a switch

He was Bill Kristol's choice for VP.(saw a clip of BK being "congratulated" on his prophetic powers with even a goofy psychic hat and a crystal ball to go along the ha-ha happiness)

He was also one of the main rah-rahs richies for the Sarah Palin VP pick in 2008.

The PLUTOCRAT PUPPET MASTERS will do everything to privatize schools,(vouchers) government services, medicare(vouchers), social security, etc. There are way toooooooo many potential profits and rewards for them.

Of course that means no regulations for anything & redirecting $-everything-$ to their coffers at a higher cost to "We the People".

This has been the subversive agenda for quite some time:

    PRIVATIZE = PROFITS FOR PLUTOCRATS

Palin, McCain, & others wouldn't be "suggesting" Hilary vs. Joe, or removing Joe, unless the PLUTOCRAT PUPPET MASTERS wanted it.

The Denver Post, in an editorial entitled "Palin an odd choice for VP", wrote: "John McCain... has picked a running mate who just two years ago was serving as mayor of Wasilla, Alaska, population 5,470."

    5,470?????

    5,470?????

LOL, my neighborhood high school has about that many high school students!!!!!!!

I know with Sarah Palin's knowledge of the English language, I'm proud to say that our school district wouldn't hire Sarah to be the school principal or a teacher.

Sarah Palin is as ignorant as her children.

3:37....I have often thought the same thing. We had a three grade high school(soph. jr. sr.) with about 5,000 kids. That was in the 70s, probably double now. I have always been absolutely positive that the principal of my high school was much more qualified for the VP than Palin.

    Sarah!
    Todd!
    Bristol!
    Willow!

How come the Palin family will not make a public announcement regarding Todd running a prostitution ring in Alaska?

How come the Palin family are so quiet about it?

The Palin family and especially Bristol wants to comment on every thing President Obama does but refuses to address the prostitution scandal of Todd.

Do the Palins think it will just go away?

@anon 2:44... I thank you for the link to this excellent article. The way I read this, there are just waaay too many politically/commercially incestuous relationships going on.

I hope this will get print/airtime over here.

All VP Joe Biden did was tell the truth. All the hypocrites ever do is try to exploit every comment, in order to advance their racist agenda. Lets have a honest conversation about VOTER Suppression. Black, Brown, Gay, Women, and the young vote, will be blocked by Karl Rove, the Koch Brothers, and the rest of the Aristocracy in this country. They stole it in 2000. They stole it in 2004. They would have stolen it in 2008, but they screwed themselves when they ran Ms. Dumb Ass for VP. We all need to get real. If President Obama loses Ohio, Pennsylvania, Florida, Colorado, or Wisconsin, we should all take to the streets and reclaim our country. By Any Means Necessary !

I always enjoy a good smackdown of the GOP for nominating Sarah Palin. But in this case, it was irrelevant. I hate that the media is covering this nonsense but, since Stephanie Cutter was asked, I wish she'd logically defended Biden's 'in chains' remark which was aimed at GOP use of the word 'shackled'.

Why not suggest Guiliani be asked about Republicans' frequent use of the word 'shackled'? I think Cutter missed an opportunity to point out GOP hypocrisy and to talk about their dangerous deregulation plans to 'unshackle' Wall Street.

  42. Oh please trolls, VP Biden is on the same page as our President. He also doesn't embarrass the dems. We are proud of him and know he's better than any gop.

The Republicans are scared of Joe Biden. He has far more experience and knowledge than Ryan--especially foreign policy. He will provide answers during a debate while Ryan provides talking points. Biden may make gaffes but people know he is smart--we've watched him for years.

My reaction to Guiliani is always "Why is that idiot talking again?" and it's the same with Palin. Both criticized the President for being a community organizer--and neither one of them can even organize their thoughts to sound like anything other than hateful, jealous snarks

Exactly! The GOP wants to discredit Vice President Biden. It has all of its surrogates trying to start "The dump Biden, pick Hilary" bit...again.

The debate between Vice President Biden and Mitt Romney's mini-me, Ryan will be must see TV!

While I like the fact that this woman spoke so eloquently, it's just pathetic that Sarah's finally getting the attention she so craved for years. She's now taken a place in history that no one wants, the measure of the most ill prepared vp pick to take over the office of the President, if need be.

That has to leave skid marks!

Did you hear that, Sarah? You're a footnote in history.

Dan Quayle is doing a happy dance!

  45. PBO said it best last week when the "Replace Joe with Hillary" chatter started that it was "just the WWE Wrestling part of politics". Just a lot of blather and talking shit, in other words. Or for you Shakespearean types, "Much ado about nothing".

Leave it to our Prez to explain the nonsense in a way that even the teabaggers can understand and relate to, other than the ones who don't realize wrestling is fake. Those baggers ain't gonna vote for Obama anyway. Nor Romney. One's too black and the other's too white. Something like that.

  46. I was surprised to see coverage of this story at the Sea-of-Pee. My eyes are bleeding from reading this. If there was ever an example of "two America's" this is it. http://conservatives4palin.com/2012/08/stephanie-cutter-snarls-at-palin-in-defense-of-joe-biden.html

While I'm not crazy about Biden and would prefer Hillary Clinton, Biden isn't stupid enough to be flat as a pancake one day, and wear Belmont boobs the next. In his case he doesn't feature a cod piece on his suits.

I would prefer Biden over the GOP vp picks any day.
