Rock band Devo to release song about Mitt Romney's dog, Seamus. Update!

Courtesy of Rolling Stone:

Devo are set to release a track later this month entitled "Don't Roof Rack Me, Bro! (Remember Seamus)." It is inspired by Mitt Romney's notorious road trip from Massachusetts to Ontario, during which he transported the family dog, Seamus, in a kennel strapped to the roof of his station wagon.

According to the Orchard, the distributor behind the track, the digital single will be released on August 25th.

The track also comes as Devo's founder and commercial director, Gerald V. Casale, kicks off his Remember Seamus campaign, which is supposed to help "make 2012 the year where animals like Seamus are valued and honesty is praised."

Devo is also helping to back Dogs Against Romney, with Casale designing a special edition shirt for the group. Casale is also involved in an upcoming smartphone game called "The Crate Escape: Seamus Unleashed," which sees release on August 26th, otherwise known as National Dog Day.

You know I am going to go out on a limb here and say that I believe Devo's founder, Gerald V. Casale, was REALLY offended by this story of Seamus the dog. Don'tcha think?

Personally I think it is a great idea and I hope he sells a million copies. I think everybody should know that this man who says he wants to reach out an help the American people, could NOT even take care of his own dog properly.

Gee how many dog lovers do we have in this country? And how many of them are going to want to vote for Mitt Romney after learning the story of "Seamus the roof rack riding dog?"

Yeah, that's what I was thinking.

I understand that Mitt Romney was reached for comment, and said "Just how long are you people going to hold this dog thing over my head?"

Okay well perhaps he DIDN'T actually say that, but you know he's thinking it!

Update: Here is the song now on YouTube.

Dog on roof story will cost him to lose more votes than not releasing his taxes.

    Go Seamus!

Let us not forget....Mitt wasn't the only one in that car. His loving wife and wonderful sons also allowed this to happen, even after the poor dog shit all over the car. The poor dog not only went back into the roof cage, but was wet!! I can not imagine torturing any animal like that...plus the end of the story
was, as soon as they arrived in Canada....Shamus ran away never to be seen again. This was according to one of the sons, not the media.

On another note....it seems to me if people just were aware of all the good things Obama did, WHEN HE DID THEM, they wouldn't need to sort out the GOP lies. Imagine that...average Americans actually watching or reading the news as it happened. Robme offends me in every way.

Just a thought, but is there REALLY a difference between letting a dog hang out in the back of a pickup and on top of a car in a carrier?

Wouldn't the pickup be more dangerous? Though both are weird to me. I'd do neither.

"Is there REALLY a difference between letting a dog hang out in the back of a pickup and on top of a car in a carrier?"

      Oh hell, I don't know.

Just the other day when we was out at the farm we had a bunch of dog carriers on top of the car tied to the ROOF RACK by my BRO. There was a pickup truck we were taking down to the back 40 also too. Next thing you know, the dogs wanted to go with and just loaded up in those carriers all by themselves! Up on the roof and in their solitary confinement cages all by themselves!

That pick up truck? What self respecting dog would want to ride in the back of a pick up? That damn truck was only used to haul the guns and beer!

Seriously yes it is dangerous to have unsecured dogs in the back of a truck. Do I think Milt and Angry Ann were worried about Seamus's safety? No.

      Delete
    2. Both are dangerous, but I’m sure the carrier is more terrifying, up there with the big trucks roaring a few feet away. Dogs in a pickup can huddle behind the cab and get down out of the wind, if not away from the noise; it’s flimsy shelter, but something. I still think putting a dog in an open truck bed is stupid, since they can flip out, and I’ve seen it happen.

Rolling Stone, huh? I’m glad this isn’t going away.

One reason both would be dangerous is the possibility of eye injury. Its very easy for a piece of anything flying up from the road or bouncing off another car to hit the dog in the eye.

It isn't safe for dogs to hang their heads out windows either, even though some seem to love it.

Many of us advocate for NOT placing dogs in the back of pickup trucks without a proper restraining device. A rope tied to each side of the truck bed with a short rope on a rolling tether can allow a dog to be secure in the truck bed but unable to go over the side or fall out. Best idea is NOT to carry dogs in a truck bed. In Washington state dogs must be crated within the car and the crates must be secured to something in the car. I'd put people in the back of a truck and unsecured in a car, but never animals ;-)

As a non-American, just what is a 'varmint'? I don't get this, its not actually a thing, and I'm fairly certain no one but Yosemite Sam and James Stewart's AWFUL character in the movie 'How the West was won' have ever used it. Yet again Mitt shows himself to be a total fool. It's just like when our politicians here in Australia try to use old working class Australian words and phrases even though they went to private schools and are posh. We just cringe when they try to work in a 'cobber

It's like vermin. Small critters that can carry disease and annoy farmers like rats, mice, rabbits, etc.

    3. Well, i do lovingly refer to one cat, two ferrets and two dogs collectively as 'varmints' and also use it as a bookkeeping category.

... mostly i call the ferrets 'disrespectful little shits'; of course, they just laugh at me because they know i am a pushover (which they wield as a psychological weapon).

(one of my friends said "You are spending too much time with your varmints!")

An old New England farmer (grew up plowing behind a team) used "stock" for farm animals and "varmint" for all other animals. However, the little "non-working" dog rescued from some people asking directions to the animal shelter was invariably called a "varmint". He spoiled that dog shamelessly even while holding forth about the waste of animals that don't earn their keep.

So in some cases "varmint" can be a term of affection.

    5. One of my neighbors had ferrets. She talked about wearing loose silk underwear at night with billowing sleeves and legs, and the ferrets would climb up the sleeves and legs, and it was so much fun, and I think I’d better stop now…

I agree with you there vegaslib! You must hear terrible stories everyday about irresponsible animal caretakers leaving their charges in sweltering cars. I've taken more than one animal under cover of darkness from a yard where it was being neglected. My mother has also involved police in and animal control in more than a few cases of dogs locked in hot cars. I wish I'd had the balls to actually confront the owners and possibly punch them in the face!

What It's Like to Play Basketball With Obama

"I guess the thing that sticks out most about him is that he was always an adult. If there was some conflict on the court, over a foul called or ball out of bounds or something like that, he was always a voice of calm and reason. He was an adult before he was a basketball player. He never got wrapped up in the outcome of the game, like some people who play as if its life or death. He tried hard, but never crossed the competitiveness line, he was always under control. I can't ever remember him rattled, like some of the other professors would get."

I said all of this at dinner, dispassionately laying it out like it was a scouting report. Then the woman said,

"Um, you just described his presidency."

  15. I would urge any skeptical readers to recall that the mighty Devo bravely tackled the prickly question, "Are we not men?" which had stumped professional philosophers and backyard thinkerers, alike, for centuries.

The answer, of course, is "We are Devo".

I think Seamus would be pleased.

White House To John McCain: Thanks But No Thanks On VP Advice

White House Press Secretary Jay Carney has a response to the vice presidential advice Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) offered President Barack Obama: Thanks, but no thanks.

During a Fox News interview on Wednesday, McCain suggested that it "might be wise" for Obama to run with Hillary Clinton this time around, since Vice President Joseph Biden has a propensity for putting his foot in his mouth. McCain, of course, tapped Sarah Palin as his running mate in his failed bid for the White House in 2008.

During his Thursday briefing, Carney said McCain isn't one to talk about picking vice presidents.

"One place I would not go for advice on vice presidential running mates is Sen. McCain," Carney said to laughs and groans. He noted, though, that he has "great admiration for and respect for" the Republican senator.

In case there was any confusion, Carney also confirmed to Fox's Ed Henry that Obama is, in fact, running with Biden.

"Yes," he said. "That was settled a long, long time ago."

Both McCain and the other target of Carney's putdown, Sarah Palin, have suggested that Obama reconsider his running mate, after Biden drew fire this week for making what some saw as a racially charged comment at a rally on Tuesday.

Biden has since defended himself, and Obama has backed him up.

Mormon Proxy Baptism May Have Been Performed On Paul Ryan Relatives

A researcher who has found documentation that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was performing proxy posthumous baptisms of Holocaust victims, celebrities and other non-Mormons said that relatives of Rep. Paul Ryan, the Roman Catholic running mate of the country's most prominent Mormon, Mitt Romney, were on a list of future baptisms or had the ritual performed on their behalf.

Helen Radkey told The Huffington Post that despite recent security measures, she found the names of Ryan's father, grandfather and great-grandfather in a genealogical database open only to Mormons.

  20. When I was in high school (long ago), I worked summers for a vet that owned a dog that had fallen out of the back of a truck. He shattered one of his front legs so badly that it had to be amputated. The former owner wanted him euthenized, but Dr. Smith asked if he could have him. Ian got a great home and learned to run with 3 legs, but I've never forgotten the pain that dog went through while recovering. I have a habit of telling that story to total strangers I meet with a dog in their truck bed.

I'm so glad Devo did this project. The entire Seamus story, complete with Mitt and Ann reiterating how the animal LOVED riding in the crate after eating raw turkey and scared shitless isn't going away.

How a person treats animals, especially pets, says a lot about that person's character, Seamus's "Wild Ride" still has traction. Seamus didn't die in vain.
As a dog owner and advocate of pet adoption, this act of cruelty is deeply offensive. I've seen the aftermath such cruelty manifests in such helpless creatures. Seeing how his policies will affect the poor, middle class, elderly, immigrant and female population shows me how indifferent and callous he truly is to the suffering of others.

I wonder if Devo will do one on Sarah's Wild Ride?
