At the time I think many of us took the group's ability to affect the outcome of the election with a grain of salt, even though I think the majority of us also believed that Rove did DID indeed have a plot to steal it away from the President.
Later of course we all witnessed Karl Rove's breakdown on live TV as he slowly came to the realization that SOMETHING had gone awry.
However now Anonymous is stating for a fact that the fix was mostly definitely in, and that THEY were both the reason it did not work, AND the reason for Rove's televised tantrum.
Here is their statement in full:
Click for PDF. |
The billing the Republicans gave the tool confused almost everyone inside the Obama campaign. Narwhal wasn't an app for a smartphone. It was the architecture of the company's sophisticated data operation. Narwhal unified what Obama for America knew about voters, canvassers, event-goers, and phone-bankers, and it did it in real time. From the descriptions of the Romney camp's software that were available then and now, Orca was not even in the same category as Narwhal. It was like touting the iPad as a Facebook killer, or comparing a GPS device to an engine. And besides, in the scheme of a campaign, a digitized strike list is cool, but it's not, like, a gamechanger. It's just a nice thing to have.
So, it was with more than a hint of schadenfreude that Reed's team hear(d) that Orca crashed early on election day. Later reports posted by rank-and-file volunteers describe chaos descending on the polling locations as only a fraction of the tens of thousands of volunteers organized for the effort were able to use it properly to turn out the vote.
So I will leave it to you to determine whether Anonymous is actually behind Rove's failure, or whether it was simply buried under the weight of high voter turnout for Democrats, or whether Obama's team of nerds simply outsmarted Turdblossom.
However I will say that if Anonymous is being honest, and they DID manage to sabotage this cyber attack on democracy, then I feel they need to immediately share their information with the Justice department, the Democratic party, and the American press. Because if they are right, then our elections are still incredibly vulnerable to this kind of hacking and that needs to be addressed and dealt with just as soon as possible.
Oh and Karl Rove needs to grabbed off the street and thrown into the darkest, coldest, most inhospitable jail cell in this, or any other, country, until his trial for treason. After which I expect to see his bullet riddled carcass dragged through the streets as a warning to ANYBODY who wants to impinge on the rights of America's voters to choose their leaders fairly.
Update: It looks as if Thom Hartmann is pretty convinced that Anonymous did indeed stop Karl Rove.
Very interesting. I think there is something to it.
ReplyDeleteI think there is ALOT to it!
DeleteFor example the right wingers were always tweeting about #ORCA
I wondered what THAT was all about.
A couple of weeks before the election Romney and POTUS went to a roast and Romeny said something like "Well since your reaching the end of your term"... he was always saying shit like that. And he had no concession speech prepared, he had a fir works ready to go and new website, Rove fucking freaking out on Fox news...
So many things show that this is indeed true.
Now Anon needs to hand over the results and we need to see Rove, Romney and Kocksuckers in pink handcuffs and tried for murder as well as domestic terrorism.
Make no mistake they were behind the Benghazi incident also. False flag.

DeleteHahaha. I took the poll on whether she should run in 2016, I said YES! The only way to get rid of her is for her to run and let the wolves (media) at her until there is nothing left. Good god, I can't believe people are so stupid to think she could stand up to the scrutiny of an election. She would make Rick Perry look like a genius.
DeleteWe know there were 25000 voting machines in Ohio with the suspect "wireless" software embedded. (You know, to allow votes to be changed without leaving a trail.)
ReplyDeleteAdditionally, we know the gentleman in Pennsylvania used his phone to capture the change of his vote for Obama turn to Romney on that machine.
Further we know that Tagg Romney owns one line of voting machines, which were used exclusively in some states. ES&S is another Republican run company that provided voting machines with a history of doubtful vote entries in the past.
With Rove's tantrum when Ohio was called for Obama and Ailes had to intervene and send the staffer to the decision room it seems a dead give-away that the Ohio vote was not quite close enough to "fix" the race as Repubs have been touted as doing in past elections in this century. (The gap in 2 candidates has to be close enough to permit changing few enough votes to try to escape detection - landslides are not do-able with the shenanigans the REpubs presently are accused of using.
This is why we knew we had to have a large turnout for President Obama, because elections are easy to steal. That is how the Repubs stole the 2000 and 2004 elections.

Did Anonymous stop Karl Rove from Stealing Ohio again?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=REn1BnJE3do
I have no doubt that Anonymous played a part, or tried to; whatever the extent of their involvement was is anybody's guess. I do think that the Orca failure was as much sheer incompetence as it might have been Anonymous tampering.
ReplyDeleteHere is a great article at The Atlantic about the President's re-election tech team.
http://tinyurl.com/cbqc7x9
Orca´s failure was anticipated by the Obama Camp. They had a similar app in ¨08 that crashed in the same way. Thwarting Romney shenanigans was child´s play for Anonymous, who made a monkey out of Rove (he was warned).
Delete¨Orca was supposed to be the Republican answer to Obama's perceived tech advantage. In the days leading up to the election, the Romney campaign pushed its (not-so) secret weapon as the answer to the Democrats' vaunted ground game. Orca was going to allow volunteers at polling places to update the Romney camp's database of voters in real time as people cast their ballots. That would supposedly allow them to deploy resources more efficiently and wring every last vote out of Florida, Ohio, and the other battleground states. The product got its name, a Romney spokesperson told NPR , because orcas are the only known predator of the one-tusked narwhal.
And besides, in the scheme of a campaign, a digitized strike list is cool, but it's not, like, a gamechanger. It's just a nice thing to have.¨
I saw this on Fark.com and wondered if it was true as it would definitely explain Rove's meltdown regarding Ohio...almost as he was waiting for something to happen for his candidate. I hope Anon turns their evidence over to the authorities - we have had enough of Karl Rove!
ReplyDeleteNow I am wondering how many people were involved with ORCA that had knowledge of the intended vote theft.........so are all these people going to have accidents? KKKarl leaves no trail... http://discuss.epluribusmedia.net/mike_connell_a_trail_of_questions_at_the_end_of_the_road

That embassy person is Julian Assange. A more trustworthy route to exposure than better route than some Bush embed in the Justice Department.
DeleteI think Rove might have a accident, it is said the Koch's drop "Van's" on people!
DeleteI totally believe that Anonymous had a HUGE, if not single-handed effect on the election outcome. It is exactly what they do (hack computer networks), where their loyalties lie (the people)and how easy it was to target Rove's operation, since he thought he could away with it...AGAIN. So, yeah, I do believe it and breathe a sigh of relief that there IS a way around the plutocrats in this country.
ReplyDeleteWhat I'm curious about is what is that veiled threat they're talking about at the end of the letter...about London?
They're talking about Wikileaking their info.
DeleteIsn't Julian Assange still living in the Ecuadorian Embassy in London?
DeleteTehy're referring to Julian Assange, founder of Wikileaks, who is currently residing in the Ecuadorian Embassy in London, trying to avoid being extradited to Sweden on rape charges (likely trumped-up rape charges).
DeleteSo what they're saying is they will give the information to Wikileaks.
Julian Assange--Wikileaks is stuck in the Ecuadorian Embassy in London.
DeleteThe London embassy reference would be to the Ecuadorian embassy where Assange is at in asylum. I'm guessing they are saying they'll turn the whole data over to wikileaks.
DeleteI so hope they do!
I believe that would be a reference to Julian Assange, who is currently enjoying the hospitality of the Ecuadorian embassy in London.
DeleteI believe that it is intended to refer to Julian Assange who has been hiding out under asylum in the Ecuadorean embassy in London.
DeleteJulian Assange of Wikileaks is holing up in London at an embassy. I'm sure that's it.
DeleteI was thinking Wiki leaks but that can't be it.
DeleteWIkileaks, via Julian Assange, who currently resides at the Ecuadorean Embassy in London.
DeletePretty scary stuff. This is why I was so nervous on Election night. I was so afraid that they would steal the election, again.... If in fact Anonymous did this, and I don't doubt but they did, why would they not turn the info over to the Justice Dept so one Mr. Karl Rove could be tried for treason along with a minion of others.
ReplyDeleteYes! Why wouldn't they? Because they themselves might get 'outed' and they don't want that.. But yes, they should somehow anonymously turn their info on Rove over to the Justice Dept.
DeleteOr, perhaps, they have information that leads them to believe that they can't trust the DOJ. I know the DOJ has been hunting them for years.
DeleteOh, I hope they were part of this public FAIL. And I hope thay have the proof. And I hope they turn over any info they have.
ReplyDeleteChubby Cheeks and his clueless leaders need to answer for their actions this time; if they'd been held accountable last time, maybe they wouldn't have been available to try it this time.
If the Romney campaign's attempts to interfere with those early voters hadn't energized the Ohio base to vote no matter what, and turned them out in such numbers that it wasn't possible to flip that 10% to win, Ohio would have been lost...unless, of course, they'd also brought the wrath of the Anonymous into play.
They did it to themselves, for a change, instead of doing it to us. KARMA!!
Proof? Watch that clip of Rove on Fox! He is flippin out!
DeleteI heard him say on NPR like a week before, we would all wake up on Wed and Rmoney would have 300 electoral votes!

Unbelievable isn't it?
DeleteThe gig is up on Rove. People know exactly what a slimebucket he is. I've known it for a long time.
ReplyDeleteIn 2006, after the midterms when Democrats made advances in the House and Senate, Rove 'quit' his cushy job with Bush in order to spend more time with his family, which was code for: To concentrate on keeping the White House in the Republicans' hands in 2008. Not everyone was fooled, however.
He feverishly started putting plans together and raising mega-bucks in order to thwart the 2008 Democratic candidate, whomever it was going to be. I believe Rove thought it was going to be Hillary Clinton, and my god! Conservatives couldn't have that! He made every effort to undermine her whenever he could, which was often because upon leaving the Bush White House, he was free to be on Fox News whenever he wanted.
Rove has a history of dirty and devious political operations. Remember him starting the 'rumor' about John McCain having a 'black daughter?' (McCain does have a black daughter - she was adopted) He started that rumor in 2000 in South Carolina when McCain was threatening to win the primary there ahead of Bush.
He's a Lee Atwater protege..If only Karl would come down with a brain tumor. Might make him more human, too.
If you're not familiar with Lee Atwater, look him up.
True.
DeleteRove has been castrated, literally by Megyn Kelly who had more than a professional dislike for him.
He did not heed the warning.
I've always wondered when the final results were in, Obama won Ohio by only two points when it was shown He was up by 5 or 6. In all the other States he won by even larger margins than expected. This may have merit. Certainly Rove's stuttering hissy fit when Ohio was called is suspicious.I remember VIVIDLY during the 2000 election they asked Bush the dumber about Florida being called for Gore. He said "my brother assures me that I have won Florida" and we all know how that turned out. IT was a calamity for the World.
ReplyDeleteI would love to find out that 'Anonymous' really did stifle Rove's plans, and that 'they' are keeping a close watch on him! That would seriously scare Rove, I think.
ReplyDeleteWish they'd do something similar to the Koch brothers, 'cause you know they've got their fingers in all sorts of skullduggery.
DeleteM.from MD
There was a young reporter on one of the MSNBC programs that cover the Romney victory/concession speech. She said something that was interesting. Many Romney aids were told to bring a packed bag the night of the election for the aids to be disbursed to several states to oversee the count of the votes, Of course when the President won at 11:12 they were not needed. Can anyone add to this why these aids were to go to the various states? Guesses?
ReplyDeleteGood question. I also remember hearing (on tv news) that the Romney team had a team of lawyers lined up and ready to dispute the count in each individual swing state... Does anyone know if that is standard procedure?? I found it strange.
DeleteThe information Anonymous has is already in the government' possession. Al Gore gave the GOP a pass on electronic election theft in Florida. John Kerry gave the GOP a pass on electronic election theft in Ohio. And Obama arrogantly refused to let the DOJ act on what it knew because Obama just wanted a win, not a mandate. The two major parties are twins of each other. The only difference is that the Republicans are the really, really evil twin.
ReplyDeleteThis is a beautiful sight to behold. This press briefing after he emerges from the Petraeus testimony will be marked as the moment when John McCain lost all credibility. His craven selection of Sarah Palin couldn't do it. His loss to President Obama couldn't do it. Even his bitter service on the Senate these past four years couldn't do it. Instead, an attack on our consulate in Libya and his surreal vendetta against the Ambassador to the United Nations, Susan Rice, has finally pushed his relevance forever over the edge.

I've always thought it was strange about the massive fail of ORCA. I wondered if there was a backstory beyond incompetence. I'm confused about one thing - I thought ORCA had to do with identifyng who had and hadn't voting. How does the vote switching fit in?
ReplyDeleteLucy
I doesn't. Orca and the vote flipping were two different activities.
DeleteElizabeth 44
Annon blocked the servers Rove was going to use to make the flip!
Deletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=REn1BnJE3do
Thom Hartman kind of explains it.
2nd question: The focus of this article seems to be on ORCA & Ohio? Was ORCA trying to switch votes in other states too? Did Ohio turn out to be irrelevant?
ReplyDeleteLucy
Orca was supposed to be a program which would inform in real time, the Republican poll watchers who had voted and had not voted, so the Republicans could get out the vote. The vote flipping was separate which is why the two anti-Rove program were uploaded at different times. The Anonymous message indicates three states. That would be Ohio, Virginia, and Florida.
DeleteElizabeth 44
The reference to London is a threat to release the info obtained from Rove to Wikileaks.
ReplyDeleteThank you Anonymous for saving the USA's democracy. As an American citizen, I am truly in your debt.
ReplyDeleteDo you guys wear white Hats :)
Too bad they won't target Queen Moosehead Dumbass Tundra Tart at least just for fun since now she is irrelevant & small potatoes. Still I could hope that one day she will be exposed.
ReplyDeleteIf I understand the letter from Anonymous, disrupting the ORCA ground game was only one of their achievements. More significant would be protecting the vote count. A successful effort to shut down a planned vote-flipping mechanism would help explain the Ohio Republican Sec. of State's last minute addition of experimental vote-counting software.
ReplyDeleteOh, I think they did it. If you’ve read Stieg Larsson (especially the last book), you know the abilities of some of these people, and that was several years ago; the old white guys can’t buy that level of talent because money doesn’t drive them.

Yes, they do need to expose everything thing they found, all the proof. But not turn it over to the DOJ. They need to expose it publicly as widely as possible.
The pieces need to be put together, from the 10% switches in votes for Rmoney during the primaries to the attempts to steal this election.
Yeah, I believe Rove was so confident about Ohio because that was one of the states he had set up to steal. And when it didn't happen, he went apoplectic live, on camera.
I think he stole 2004 and 2000 too. If Anonymous had proof of that, then I'd love them to expose that too.
I want Rove arrested, tried, convicted and put in prison for the rest of his life if he so much as changed ONE vote.

ReplyDeletehttp://harpers.org/archive/2012/11/how-to-rig-an-election/1/
Good for Anonymous. Possibly something to deal with John McCain would be a very good thing. Patraeus, also, too.
ReplyDeletePatraeus/Bales: One man is at the center of a story you can’t avoid in the media, since last Friday. General David Petraeus, architect of the U.S. “surge” in Iraq, pulled in to “save” Afghanistan, then bumped over to the CIA last year, was forced to resign because the FBI, we are told, found out about an affair he was having with a fawning biographer.
The other story is one you could barely find until days ago, despite the subject being a soldier who allegedly killed 16, including nine Afghan children, on March 11 last year near Kandahar. Robert Bales, an Army Staff Sargent, is said by the Army to have gone on a rampage in two villages, and is facing a court martial involving the death penalty.

Petraeus seduced America. We should never have trusted him.

Please see this analysis from addictinginfo.org for some more insight into this story:
ReplyDeleteWhile some might consider this a random letter, or a jump to claim responsibility, if you step back and study the letter carefully a very clear message comes out.
They cite specific numbers. They state precisely how many tunnels are there. They cite how many passwords were attempted. But, there are key words which look innocent but, to a computer engineer, are very much a trigger.
These phrases are (our emphasis):
We noticed these tunnels were strategically placed to allow for tunnel rats to race to the sewer servers from three different states.
Now, to a normal person a rat is just that: a furry animal or a slang term for a scoundrel. But to a computer person, a rat is something radically different, a r.a.t. hack. The Remote Administration Tool hack is a method of remotely accessing a machine as if it were local. Using such a hack, you would have full access to the machine, at a level someone physically at the machine may not have. A “sewer server” is a term used to denote a hack over a secured tunnel, known as a Secured SHell (SSH), using a form of encryption designed to make it appear to be innocent background traffic.
This is not some general discussion, making claims in order to claim. They have released clear and specific details on what exactly was done, information which the people behind Orca can verify. Even more telling, however, is the name the group used for their denial of service attack:
The Great Oz
“Oz” refers to the land in the classic movie, The Wizard of Oz; more currently, it refers to the television show Oz,which is about a prison. And the actions the group took was to attempt to hack the election into jail, locking it away. It broke, absolutely. We reported on the failures of Orca and its public face earlier. What Anonymous is claiming is that Orca’s public face was a farce, a lie. It was not to coordinate poll challengers so much as to steal the election.
The little cherry on top, however, is the hint that Anonymous not only blocked the operation, but kept copies of the code and data from Orca and are planning on leaking it to wikilinks. If and when this happens, you know AI will be there.

I find the 11:14pm and 11:13pm incidents very suspicious.
I so hope Anonymous has proof that Rove has been rigging elections and flipping votes.
I have read the same claim from a group with another name. It could be they are both anonymous. The details were identical even the 105 tries to break the firewall. I love how all they did was find the "back doors" and block them. No damage to the programs, just block access. Wonderful! I also read an article by a Fox reporter who was with Rove on election night. He reported that he and Rove kept trying to get into the SOS in Ohio's webpage and kept getting error messages. So Rove had no access to the SOS webpage until after Ohio had been called for Obama. He couldn't see the numbers come in.
ReplyDeleteBTW, they said the Orca program was not very good and easy to bring down.
I don't know the truth of the anonymous claim, but boy, I hope it is true and the evidence will be published!

According to the Obama administration, there are no American “boots” on the ground in Libya. But there are American orthopedic dress shows on the ground in Libya. John McCain latched onto one of our predator drones and parachuted down into the country Friday because he loves U.S. intervention in foreign wars so much he had to go see this one for himself. The last time he was there, Walnuts hung out with Muammar Gaddafi. But since a war started, McCain suddenly no longer likes this dictator, and spent his time meeting with the rebel troops instead. ReplyDeleteI think Anonymous DID it. This time, Too much points in that direction, especially Hartmann's article.
ReplyDeleteI can overlook the 2008 election, Sarah Palin was doing their job for them.
This explains why it took so long for Romney to concede and why Romney's people were telling MSNBC that they thought there was something fishy about the numbers -- they were trying to figure out what the password was!
ReplyDeleteWhat sucks is that people would have fallen in line and assumed that Romney really did win because for weeks and weeks the media were ignoring polling data and were pretending that the race was close!
More frightening to me is that possibility that Anonymous may have tampered with the vote numbers in either direction. If they had that kind of access they could have changed any numbers they wanted.
ReplyDeleteBut it is VERY "strange" that the Ohio equipment went down at almost the exact same time as it did in 2004. Something seriously fishy about that. As stated above by many, Anonymous needs to post the information they have on line. Put it up on Facebook or something. Once it's out there, like Romney's transition website, it can't really be removed.
