Maine's outgoing GOP party chairman freaked out to discover that Maine has black voters.

Courtesy of TPM:

Maine's outgoing Republican Party chairman plans to investigate claims that "dozens of black people" unfamiliar to local officials voted in rural Maine towns, the Bangor Daily News reports.

“In some parts of the state, there were dozens of black people who came in to vote,” Charlie Webster said in an interview. “Nobody in town knew them.”

Webster plans to send thousands of postcards with a picture of the state capitol to registered voters. He is interested in the postcards that are returned as undeliverable in his investigation of voter fraud.

You know the guy has a point. I visited my sister who lives in Maine once a few years ago and I don't think they even ALLOW black people into the state.

Clearly the Obama campaign parachuted black folks in over Bangor JUST to steal the election away from that good Caucasian candidate Mitt "a whiter shade of pale" Romney. It must have been several plane loads of them too, because Obama won Maine by over 100,000 votes.

Later Mr. Webster tried to clarify. But I think he just made it worse:

“I regret saying the word black because it wasn’t like I was singling out black,” Webster said. “The reason I said it, ‘cause I don’t know where you live, but where I come from in rural Maine, it’s a small percentage of the population. I think we’re the whitest state in the country. So if you go to the polls and see people who are black, it’s unusual. And when you see a lot of people who are black, like six or eight or ten people, you think, ‘Wow, where do they live?’ That was my point.”

Yeah, he DIDN'T mean that the black people did not have the right to vote, he just meant that he has no fucking idea where all of these non-white people are hiding themselves.

You know it's almost like they don't live in the same neighborhood he does, or don't go to the same parties he attends, or that they avoid his racist ass like the plague.

Whatever, the fact remains that he does not know them, so HOW is it that they are allowed to vote? Definitely needs investigating.

I'm confused, WHY do we think the Republicans are racist again?

  1. No, what he meant to say,

"The Republican Party can't win if we let all these goddam niggers vote. Where I live, only good christian white people are allowed to vote, and I thought we'd shut those shuckin'-n-jivin' mother-fuckers down everywhere else, too!"

"See, in no way did I intent to say the word 'Blacks'"

Keep on talking, Charlie Webster, you Republican racist piece of shit.

Perhaps he meant 'BLAH' People, as Rick Santorum
    tried to explain.

I remember when Sanctimonious blurted that out, and just barely saved himself from saying what he really thinks.

Too bad, because I was hoping a gaffe like that would take him out of the race.

I'm sure that being the superior, morally perfect, holy Catholic Opus Dei, militant christian that we all know he is,
he WILL be running again in 2016.

SOMEONE needs to point out how all the libs and moderates are snobs, and how everyone but Christians have no moral compass

I saw another quote from him chuckling that now he would probably be in trouble with the black guys he plays basketball with. So the asshole plays bball with black people(highly unlikely) but he thinks there aren't any black people in his state that would vote?

From the looks of him, the only basketball he plays is on Playstation. Those 'black guys' he plays with are the ones in the game.

Good job by the folks getting new voters registered in Maine!

Charlie Webster is just like Rick "Frothy Mix" Santorum and Donald "Mad Comb-Over "Trump... I'll bet the BLAHS just LOVE him, too!

I don't think the PO returns post cards. That would be funny when none of them come back. They probably never see them because they go somewhere else to shop.

Yes, we do return undeliverable postcards, just like undeliverable letters, if they have first class postage on them. This jerk will probably send them 'bulk rate', which, like all junk mail, would be thrown out if undeliverable.

And thrown out once it IS delivered. My County Clerk sent Voter registration cards out with our precinct etc. It was funny, because written right ont hem was "this may not be used for ID when voting." I THINK they were sent out just to see what might come back.

Correction to my 3:39 PM post above: That should be 'Maine'. I was so pissed when I was typing my post, and so anxious to post it, I left the 'e' off of Maine.

Maine is not only the whitest state, it also has the oldest population of any of the 50.

Yet again, like Akin and Mourdock, someone rips the covers off the naked corpse of the old, fat, white, real Americun male

huh.I did not know that about Maine. I would've guessed FLA. has oldest population. Maine must be scary place, full of racist old men like my father then...yuck. Hope they all die off soon and liberal minorities take over!

  9. They could very well be living where he doesn’t see them. There may be small grocery stores in the boondocks (guaranteed!), plus there are home delivered groceries. I know this for a fact, since my husband and I knew a wonderful man who was also a chronic alcoholic. He didn’t like to drive so his groceries were often home delivered.

Even though I lived in the red state of Alaska, in a small town population 5,000-ish, there a few black residents and they were treated equally and with respect. The first black teenager that attended high school was treated like a rock star.

Did he fire The Donald for being an ass? Or did he fire him for not delivering the extra 4 million votes he promised when he was declaring that Mittens would win in a landslide? Or did Mitt just buy him off?

Charlie Webster is a lot like Sarah Palin: a stupid pigheaded self-promoting poxmark on humanity. This is not the first obnoxious thing he's done but since he believes in the Republican current-line-of-poop he wanted to make a nice impression before he goes to total obscurity....

Now, having said that, I've got a bone to pick with you, Gryphen. I'm a Mainer. Are you painting all Mainers with the same brush when you say "You know the guy has a point. I visited my sister who lives in Maine once a few years ago and I don't think they even ALLOW black people into the state." Not nice, Gryphen. Many of us have black neighbors here; hundreds of families have been here since there was suddenly no need for the Underground Railroad, a main northern terminus of which was Bangor, so they've been here longer than most Mainers. We're friends as well as neighbors. Better be careful or we're going to send you Charlie Webster and you'll have to put up with him AND Palin.

I enjoyed reading The Help yet, it left me with a vague feeling of distate. I had a sense that I was participating in the a level of bias that we Americans need to overcome.

So, although you may think your being clever, your blanket statement implies all black people in Maine are domestic help. This type of assertion only furthers the "lesser than" axiom of black Americans. It is something that has been spoon fed to all of us in our society. Just as the sexualization of women is prominent. It's so prevalent we often are unaware of it's influence over our own consciousness. So, much like Charlie Webster himself, you are expressing the exact denigration of the "other" only in a less obvious way.
I apologize if I'm coming across as supercilious. I felt the need to point this out simply because even those of us who adhere to our liberal philosophies are guilty, on a certain level, of engendering the very doctrine we find offensive.

What I always find odd about racists is their "corrections" aka "wite out" are even worse than the original statement.
    Webster's a piece of work!

In addition to what Sarah said about longstanding black families, there ave been many African refugees who moved to Maine (Lewiston, Portland) in the last 15 years.
