Mitt Romney to be charged for violating the federal ethics in government law. Mitt Romney unethical? Whodathunkit? Update!

Courtesy of Truthout:

For Mitt Romney, it's one scary Halloween. The Presidential candidate has just learned that tomorrow afternoon (November 1) he will be charged by the United Automobile Workers (UAW) and other public interest groups with violating the federal ethics in government law by improperly concealing his multi-million dollar windfall from the auto industry bailout.

At a press conference in Toledo, Bob King, President of the United Automobile Workers, will announce that his union and Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) have filed a formal complaint with the US Office of Government Ethics in Washington stating that Gov. Romney improperly hid a profit of $15.3 million to $115.0 million in Ann Romney's so-called "blind" trust.

The union chief says, "The American people have a right to know about Gov. Romney’s potential conflicts of interest, such as the profits his family made from the auto rescue. It’s time for Gov. Romney to disclose or divest.”

“While Romney was opposing the rescue of one of the nation’s most important manufacturing sectors, he was building his fortunes with his Delphi investor group, making his fortunes off the misfortunes of others,” King added.

The Romneys' gigantic windfall was hidden inside an offshore corporation inside a limited partnership inside a trust which both concealed the gain and reduces taxes on it.

Holy crap! So what, it's not ethical to condemn an auto bailout, greedily profit from it, and then hide those profits from the government and the American people?

You know considering that Romney literally used his church as cover to avoid paying taxes for fifteen years, and has refused to provide more than two years of his tax returns, this fits right in with the idea that Romney is essentially Gordon Gekko come to life, (The point is ladies and gentlemen that greed, for lack of a better word, is good.)

He is all about making money in any way possible and simply does not care about morality or ethics. Remember the favorite quote of his campaign is that he "operated in accordance with the law."  Not that he was ethical, but that he cannot be prosecuted for what he has done.

Well perhaps this time Romney will learn that the bar for determining what is right or wrong should not be whether or not you may have to serve prison time for it.

Gee and here we thought that Mitt the Twit received his biggest fright yesterday when he saw this image.

Update: Believe it or not I actually found something even more frightening to Mitt Romney than the image above.

And we thought the Republicans were panicking BEFORE!

Now, what would really be the icing on the cake? Chrysler taking Rmoney to court demanding he remove his false ad about them!

I'd love to see that. What Romney has done to Chrysler could affect the company's business and companies take that very seriously.

They will demonize unions as they have always done...ever since workers first dared to demand safety and living wages.

Let us all hope this initiative comes early enough to make a difference to voters on November 6.

Un-freakin' believable. This is one morally bankrupt piece of mitt. How dare this crook think he can be President of the US. Him and his nasty wife are entitled, snobby, rude and arrogant. I can't wait for him to get his ass handed to him next week. Hasta la vista MF and take your whiny little sidekick with you.

Oh look it's fat bastard get in my belly Chris Christie! Donno bout you but I find it hard to take the word of a politician who obviously has self control issues with, uh, shall we say stuffing your face till your jaw gets tired.

Many folks are thinking of voting for this guy should he run for president. If so, Christie's choice of VP should be of the utmost concern
cause that's who's going. The stress of the job combined with the waistline the size of a pregnant beluga whale is heart attack that will happen.

There's a lot of things I dislike about Chris Christy, but he will tell is like he see's it and it's good to see he isn't playing politics right now.

Um, he only " tells it like he sees it" when he is desperate for government help.

Anyone want to grab some interesting sound bites from his convention speech?

I do believe he was quite insulting to our President.

This story isn't on any of the "MSM" webpages. It must be because of the "liberal" media people are always complaining about.

    1. Why isn't it being broadcast as the lede? Because Romney wasn't the only 1%er betting on the government bailout. THey all made out like bandits. The money class would win either way. Government bailouts prop up the industry and the big money wins or the industry goes bust and they win on their short options. It's called a straddle and it pays off whenever there's a lot of volatility in the price of a stock or index of related stocks. Mitt made a lot of money through Ann's (not very) blind investment portfolio that is managed by Mitt's personnel counsel. But he would've scooped up all of GM and the satellite companies that support the industry if the govt hadn't issued the guarantees prior to the managed bankruptcy. There was about $5 Trillion out there offshore and in cash ready to pounce on the stocks for pennies on the dollar, if that much. It's a hell of a lot easier to make money with money than it is working or running a business. Politicians like it when you vote for them, but they love cash more. With money, they can not only get elected but they can also become wealthy.

When these guys an make their bets today knowing what the news is tomorrow, the single investor class loses every time, because they are the last ones to find out the results of the back-room deals done "in quiet rooms", as Romney prefers.

Romney isn't a leader. He's a rainmaker for the billion dollar hedge funds and vulture capital class that trades on the misery of mom-n-pop investors and small businesses. Mitt is a predator. Fuck Mitt.

Sorry about saying the word "Fuck". I thought long and hard and nothing else expresses my disgust with this crook they call "Mittens".

    2. Correction: I typed $5 Trillion. I meant $2 Trillion. Big money on the sidelines at that time, nonetheless, looking for bargain-basement prices while there was blood in the streets.

Shades of the Nixon campaign of 1972. The press knew Nixon was a crook prior to the election, and yet he got elected in spite of his dirty dealings. BTW, you may know but it's worth repeating, Karl Rove and Roger Ailes got their start in the Nixon campaign.

Massachusetts was the only state (D.C. also) in which he didn't get the electoral votes. If Romney should win (God forbid), Massachusetts can bring back the bumper sticker "Don't blame me I'm from Massachusetts." Because Romney will lose this state--big time.

President Obama appears under the hot lights, trotting up the steps to the stage and flashing that blinding grin. Hello Virginiaaaa!, he is shouting. He leans low over the podium for emphasis, stiff-arming the air next to him. We don't quit! Together we're fighting our way back! The marching band thrums; the multiracial crowd goes bonkers. Blow-dried correspondents from the local news station go Live at Five, placards waving giddily behind them. This is the reelection, the way you always see it, rally upon rally upon rally, in swing state upon swing state.

Then there's the back and forth of tweets and press releases, the boom and bust of the cable-news controversy du jour, the gauze-filtered appearance with a morning show anchor to come out in favor of gay marriage or the DREAM Act or to explain away a gaffe. The swooning and fulminating that follows. The three debates, the micro-dramas onstage, the gnashing and wailing after. This is what has preoccupied reporters and pundits and surrogates all year. It's what decides the race, supposedly.

Except none of that is the real campaign. That is the in-flight entertainment.

The real campaign is startlingly simple:

What is it with some GOPPERS? Sounds like Sarah Palin’s comment while mayor that she will continue doing what she has been doing until the law says she can’t. Where is the ethical compass with these people?

  14. "Be honest, Mimi. Does this Governor make me look too skinny?"

I think more of Christie if he can be an asshole on a bipartisan basis. A good governor needs to be able to play good-cop/bad cop on national stuff with the needs of HIS state being his primary concern. Any Republican that calls Steve Doocy a douche is part of the old guard that I miss in the GOP. Unfortunately, there aren't many of them left in the party.

Christie may have been the Koch Bros. first choice for pres. Could it be that even the Koch Brothers and their right wing agenda are totally disgusted by Willard's solitary vision of pure GREED? Willard not only holds you up and takes your wallet, counts the money and credit cards in it, but before he pushes your face into the dirt, he asks you to empty ALL your pockets and to give him ALL your change.

  18. Ethics has been an issue for a lot of people in many ways. We should learn on it and act in a right way.

  19. If the filing of this ethics complaint is true, that is very big news less than a week from election day! Especially highlighting Romney's underhanded dealings directly with the auto industry, raking in the bucks from the bailout, blind trust trickery, etc. So why isn't is all over the news? I haven't seen a single mention of it anywhere but here and on Litman's blog.
