Catholic priest blames female victims of domestic violence as being responsible due to ther "arrogance" and the fact they serve cold or fast food to their men.

Not married and celibate, perfect person to dish out advice on abusive relationships.
Courtesy of the Herald Sun:

"How often do we see girls and mature women going around scantily dressed and in provocative clothes?" Piero Corsi said in a Christmas message posted on the door of his church in the small town of San Terenzio in northwest Italy.

"They provoke the worst instincts, which end in violence or sexual abuse. They should search their consciences and ask: did we bring this on ourselves?" it read.

The leaflet, a copy of which was posted online sparking a wave of outrage across the country, said the 118 women killed in acts of domestic violence in Italy in 2012 had pushed men to their limits.

"Is it possible that all of a sudden men have gone mad? We don't believe it," Corsi wrote.

"The fact is that women are increasingly provocative, they become arrogant, they believe themselves to be self-sufficient and end up exacerbating the situation," he said.

"Children are abandoned to their own devices, homes are dirty, meals are cold or fast food, clothes are filthy," he added.

The region's bishop, Luigi Ernesto Palletti, stepped in as the story went viral and said Corsi's words were "unacceptable and go against the church's common feeling on the matter".

Once again ladies why would ANY of you subject yourselves to a  patriarchal religious faith that was essentially founded to suppress women and keep them at home cleaning house and birthing babies while elevating their husbands to a state of Godhood within their homes?

And another thing, why, oh why, do people take marital, relationship, or sexual advice from men who are not married, in relationships, or having sex?

That is like asking an Amish man why my computer is running slow.

I bet an Amish man who has never seen a computer would have more common sense than these "Catholic" eunuchs who obviously hate women. Either that or they are so desperate to hang onto the few remaining congregants that they will villify women to what? Appeal to their abuser husbands? Encourage young men to join right up and hate on women? The man has no reason to say this. None. And he should be kicked out of his position, just like Akin and the rest of the people who think women are here to be abused by men (and then blamed for it.) Sickening.

I doubt he is a eunuch. I am sure he has a woman around or at the very least, a young man. I think the priests in Italy are worse than the ones in the US. Nobody will kick him out of anything because they are the biggest "old boys" network in the world.

The Amish are allowed to have computers as long as they are wireless and someone else charges them. That's why you see them driving with the Mennonites, they are allowed in cars just not allowed to operate them. And as for their barns, they can have electricity as long as it isn't in the house. That's how they keep their puppy mills warmed up.

The Amish aren't saints. There is domestic violence and incest and the quaint custom of shunning, not to mention the &^%$%& puppy mills.

I was born into a Catholic family, no choice about baptism or attending a non-catholic school. I left the church when I left home. But believe me, for the first 18 years of my life, priests and nuns practiced brainwashing on a daily basis. That's why we listened; there was no escape. I expect that a lot of younger RC's pick and choose what they believe and/or follow. But for my generation, it was believe all or nothing, and nothing wasn't acceptable.

Depending on the flavor of the Amish different things are allowed. You might be able to use factory tools if you convert them from electric motors to hydraulic or belt drive.

Amish can in some cases use electricity if they generate it themselves or it comes from a battery. The Amish carpenters thought rechargeable tools were great when they first became common. Some years ago I was on a job where there were Amish, as a condition of the job told you exactly what tools to have for them to use. They weren't allowed to own the tools or handle recharging or switching the batteries, but they used them hard.

It sounds like he's describing Baldy and her house! Remember in Joe's book how he described her house? And in Bailey's book her "thigh high boots"?
Anyway it sounds like a "Personal Problem" to me he can't control his "desires" so he blames the victim, typical.

For nearly 2000 years, the Catholic Church has been guilty of brainwashing the entire population of it's followers. The men and women are taught this kind of crap - the women should be subservient and the men own them. (Of course, they come by this idea naturally since it is part and parcel of almost every monotheistic religion.)

And all of this, as you say, comes from men who haven't the slightest clue about life. And even worse, are protective of those guilty of the sexual abuse of children.

There are NOT that many asexuals in the world that celibacy can be maintained in that population. And even worse, I would be willing to bet that a large number of the priests have tendencies toward misogyny in their psyche!

Catholic priests don't even have the same awe of women that ancient Man had that was simply due to the woman's "magic" of being able to bring forth life!

The Catholic Church is at the top of the list of abusive religions and I, for one, would be exceedingly happy if it were to vanish, taking all it's crap with it! (Not saying the rest of the religions need to stay, just THIS one needs to go now!

As for the Bishop making HIS comment that the priests's statement didn't reflect doctrine, they hide child abuse, too! So, who you gonna believe?

They sure don't have that "awe" of women. They have an institutionalized jealousy of women and their power. That is why they need to vilify women.

All the priests I've known were gay and living miserable, self-hating lives where they'd take their collars off to go and find a rent boy or two in the evening, then return to their church duties preaching about how evil the gays were. :)

It wasn't that they hated women, it's just that they thought females had major cooties and didn't understand them at all.

Exactly why I left the church 30 years ago. 8 years of catholic grade school, the incessant (almost blackmail) for money, and the constant harping on subservience and sin were more than enough. In 8th grade, a priest (who later quit and married an ex-nun) told our class that we "should learn to think for ourselves". He was the only one who ever said to question what we were being taught.

In high school, we were also taught to "follow our conscience" to make the right decisions. I know that the priests and nuns who said that would be horrified to find that many of us "followed our conscience" right out of there.

Rape is not about sex, it is about power and control.

This priest associates women with domestic chores, another power and control issue. And presumably this priest is anti-choice, another power and control issue.

Realistically, what woman in their right mind would marry this creep. Celibacy is what he deserves.

Yes, because whenever I see a man in a swimsuit, I instantly want to rape him in the worst way.

    *um, not*

If you have no sexual control, then you're already a rapist in the making. Doesn't matter if you're responding to a fully covered Egyptian woman suffering from unwanted groping as she tries to take the morning train to work or you're ogling a pretty woman in a cute, fashionable dress going out with friends to dinner and calling her "Babe" or telling her you'd like to fuck her as you laugh with your buddies drinking beer on your front porch.

If as a man (or woman) you have no control, then you're a criminal in the making.

And that is YOUR fucking problem. Not the woman's.

Recently a woman in Mali, which is being overtaken by fundamentalist and VICIOUS Muslims, made the mistake of giving a drink of water to a man who was not her husband or an immediate family member. When word of this got out (interesting question -- who spread that information, and to what purpose?) she was grabbed in the middle of the night from her home, viciously beaten, put in prison to rot, and I believe still awaits sentencing/i.e. punishment.

And this is seen as an appropriate response by the locals who have fallen under the toxic spell of hating women and abetting violence against women.

We need to root these beliefs out EVERYWHERE -- looking under every rock, within every sexist dad, granddad, and so on within our own culture. To this day I still see this a lot in the US, especially within older generations of men.

For example, they honestly think it's their daughter's fault if she gets groped by her college roommate's drunken boyfriends at two in the morning when she's innocently sleeping in her bunk bed, trying to get some sleep, and they ambush her in the middle of the night. That happened to me, thankfully I wasn't raped, but it's funny how my own dad holds these horrific beliefs that when bad things happen to me, bad things done by psychopaths and violent people, it's MY FAULT.

I'm not allowed to kill my dad, so it's hard to enact justice in these situations. If I was in a fundamentalist Muslim country and I was male and he was female and I felt he disrespected me, I could beat or kill him, and local law enforcement would side with my religious elders, who would say this was perfectly fine.

It's hard to even talk about this stuff with him because it's so deeply engrained in his generation's convenient, sexist thinking. So what do we do? Keep trying to shine a light on it and SPEAK UP ABOUT IT and shame the fuckers into either shutting the fuck up or hopefully, no longer holding ANY power in our society, not financial, not interpersonal, not political, not religious.

BECAUSE THIS SHIT NEEDS TO STOP.

*end morning rant; thanks for listening!*

Same here. By the time I was a teenager, I knew that I couldn't ever tell my parents that I had been molested, which happened on several different occasions. It would have been my fault and I would have been punished for it.

This kind of thinking is very common among older American men - among many races. My own F-I-L, who is primarily a liberal person, goes over the deep end when we talk about things like SS. In his opinion, the wife who doesn't work, yet benefits from her deceased husband's SS is a moocher. Her 50 years of house cleaning, child rearing, and putting up with hubby crap earns her no right to have those SS dollars.

While we are not talking about violent actions in this instance, it is the same kind of mind set that sees woman and their contributions to society as inferior.

I was raised Catholic, and am still trying to recover from the experience (I'm 51). The guilt and shame heaped upon women and girls is beyond belief. I was molested as a child, and actually led to believe that I somehow encouraged it. I was so fucked up emotionally I actually married a gay man. It was so obvious that he was, and I was blind to it. He convinced me that I was such a poor excuse of a wife, that I drove him to be gay. I have struggled with drugs, alcohol, depression for decades.

Long story short......organized religion, especially catholic, is nothing more than a vehicle to control the masses. I have found peace and consider myself to be a more spiritual person now that I search for my own answers to the wonders of the world.

G, I really do appreciate your blog, it has helped me more than you will ever know.

Back in the early 1960's I babysat for a lovely family with four young children. The mother, a practicing Catholic, had had 9 pregnancies in 10 years of marriage and four children. After a difficult pregnancy with her fourth child, she was told by her doctor not to get pregnant again. She talked it over with her young and inexperienced priest who told her that it was her duty to bear as many children as "God sent her." She almost died when she lost the fifth child during her fifth month of pregnancy. The ignorance and audacity of that priest almost took the mother away from four young children and he caused the mother and her husband much grief.

When my Son was 2 my MIL was bugging us to "Baptize him".
So to please her we went through the motions.
Had to have a talk with the priest who asked if I was on Birth-control or used it....
I calmly told him... "if its any of your business....? Yes and unless the pope's going to pay for all the children I have if I stop, I'm not stopping"...!
The Baptism went off without a hitch.

My mother is one of nine. My grandparents are Irish Catholics, my grandfather served in the navy and was in the pacific theater during WW2. And after their fifth child, they went to their priest, to ask if it would be okay if they were to use birth control.

The priest said that they should sleep in separate rooms, if they could not "control their urges"

I think the only reason any women adhere to any of the Abrahamian faiths (Jew/Christian/Muslim) is simply because they haven't read the Old Testament/New Testament/Koran.

Either that or their reading comprehension leaves much to be desired

    OR

...they, like many in their faith(s), think they can pick and choose "the good parts"
-- the parts that support their prejudices --
of their religious text(s) and disregard the rest
    -- sort of a religion ala-carte.

But, you should know: if you ARE doing that, you're simply picking passages out of your "holy books" as an excuse to be an asshole.

  11. I find that the Catholic Church and Southern Baptists have views that are very similar when it comes to women. I am so glad that I broke away from that.

That was almost 20 years ago. Even then, I remember having a difficult time consolidating the teachings of the church, the bible and my view of the world. There were many pieces that just wouldn't fit. Part of the problem was that one year, I read the bible all the way through, from cover to cover. To stay Christian, I had to stick with just the passages that they would talk about in church. I can see why the Westboro Church is able to legitimately use the bible to spew their hate. Everything they are protesting is also in there. Since that time, I have read the bible again all the way through two more times. Mainly to find all the passages that I found to be offensive and counter to what a caring, decent person would follow.

My break from the church came out of a tragedy. A little boy in my son's Mother's Morning Out group died unexpectedly after x-mas day. He was only six years old. Going to his funeral, thinking how easily it could have been my son, it was too much. The religion I had been raised with wasn't helping through the pain and the fear of that incident.

I started doing what the church told us never to do. I started studying other religions. I was trying to find something to help me through the crisis. What I found was much more. I finally started critically questioning the Christian religion, and I began to see how manipulating it is.

Gryphen, I would love to see a post (if she is comfortable telling it) where your daughter describes in her own words what helped her crack through the Christian mind-set (brainwashing) she had been subject to in Georgia. From your posts, I know you helped her, what do you think helped her the most?

Maybe in the comment section, others could tell their story of what happened to them or what they did to break through the grip of religion.

You never know how a post like that, might help others.

My mother told me that I should listen to my brother because "he's older". Hard to believe she really thought a 36 month head start makes much difference at age 50 plus. And my older sister wasn't mentioned as an adviser. I suspect my mother's religious training was the true culprit.

When your family, your religion, your teachers, your economic standing pretty much condemns you to a life as an obedient pious breeder and servant to men, it's a long hard road to independent thought and demand for simple respect for your intelligence, leadership, etc.

With luck, this priest's actions ignited a fire that will free a few women from the mind control. A few more soldiers for the army that is changing people, one tiny attitude adjustment at a time.

I was raised Catholic and sent to Catholic elementary school but began to rebel when I started recognizing the hypocrisy of what I was being taught by the tender age of 7 or 8. I switched to public school in 7th grade and stopped going to church as soon as I was old enough to refuse my mother's request. I now consider myself a fairly spiritual person but don't follow any particular formal religion.

Stories like these make me truly appreciate what a wonderful and forward thinking man my father was. He was raised in an Eastern Rite Catholic church and was never particularly religious himself, although he attended Mass with my mother more as a matter of habit than anything else. Although being of a generation that SHOULD have had more traditional views of a woman's role, he encouraged all three of his daughters to become educated, independent women. He never regretted having only girls and NEVER made us feel that we were less valuable than sons.

It horrifies me that people who think as this priest does still exist and are permitted to counsel and advise anyone.

He rails against the media (Sound familiar????) and wishes bad things (a (gun?) shot, an accident, terminal illness) to happen to the evil female reporter for DARING to ask him about his letter. First he denied he wrote it, then defended it, and now says he's taking a break from the priesthood, but not giving up his frilly frocks.

I found this link, the translation isn't that good, but you can get a "taste" for the hornet's nest he's disrupted. The Bishop came out against him, saying that the letter doesn't reflect the church's stance on the dignity of Women (WTF?Where's the female priests?)

Even the mayor of his town spoke up against him.
