Robert F. Kennedy Jr told HuffPost Live host Josh Zepps in an interview Friday that he believes conservative media outlets such as Fox News are damaging the country.
Asked how he thought things have changed in the political landscape, Kennedy pointed to "big money" and "the right wing control of the American media, starting with Fox News" as hurtful to collaboration between differing political interests.
"Twenty-two percent of Americans say their primary news source is Fox News," Kennedy told HuffPost Live. "It's divided our country in a way that we haven't been divided probably since the Civil War, and its empowered large corporations to get certain kinds of politicians and ideologues who are in the United State Congress elected -- the Tea Party ideologues who control the Republican Party."
And I totally agree with that assessment.
The only question is, do we let things deteriorate until brother is fighting brother in the streets, as they did in 1861, or do we do something about the treason that flows from Fox news on daily basis today?
We say it all the time, and nothing changes except their audience is either dying off or growing up and moving away from the hate. It does get tedious after awhile, thinking everything is a conspiracy and that liberals (including family members) hate America, when obviously we do not, have not, and will not do anything to damage this nation. Unfortunately, the ALEC creeps have eroded our language so much that people think, "What could be wrong about right to work? I mean, people should not be forced to join unions." Never mind that no one is forced to ever join a union, support them or anything else. But by golly, watch what happens when the GOP manages to end unions. Do people have no sense of real history any more? I am really afraid for my Michigan. They already have a law replacing EMs even though we voted them out. They already have legislation pending to make embryos people with rights. They are right here in my hometown, and getting bolder by the day.
ReplyDeleteWhat Kennedy says is true.
ReplyDeleteSo when are we going to stop entities like Rupert Murdoch's that destroy civil discourse through their innate ability to take the money of the weak minded and get them to rave against their own self interest?. Murdoch has pretty well got his ass kicked in England as he set about destroying their media---he and Ailes have just about finished lighting a match to ours where Fox is concerned. Now he's trying to buy up what he doesn't already own.
You closing question is something I have considered for quite some time. I believe the only answer is for the FCC to revoke the broadcast license for Fox. The alternative would be for the government to find cause to force the sale of the network to a more objective entity or to just shut it down.
ReplyDeleteI think Murdoch has an agenda and it isn't good for the US.
" I believe the only answer is for the FCC to revoke the broadcast license for Fox. "
Deleteif things worked logically and rationally, this would have happened a long time ago. but this is an irrational society... unfortunately. could change some day tho, we can all hope.
I agree, but Fox is on cable, not broadcast, so the FCC is powerless in this case.
DeleteThe FCC has no licensing authority over Fox News. They are not "broadcasters" in the legal sense. The only thing that can crush this monster is lack of revenue... and that ain't happening, sorry to say.
DeleteBill Moyers has had some excellent programs on problems with the media that can be viewed at his website. He's also spearheading an effort to keep Murdoch from expanding his empire and provides ways we can help:
ReplyDeletehttp://billmoyers.com/content/stop-the-fcc-from-changing-media-ownership-rules/
What everyone knows, there is nothing we can do that is Constitutionally legal to make Fox News "Fair and Balanced". They have already been taken to court and won on Constitutional grounds. Maybe what we should do is what Canada has done in their equivalent of our FCC by defining what constitutes "news". If you call yourself a news station in Canada, your news has to be unbiased. Canada was able to keep Fox from building a broadcasting station in their country because of it. The FCC, if it hasn't already been approved, is trying to make cable stations fall under their umbrella. Since the FCC has control over networks by licensing them, and just like your drivers license, they have control over what can be said or done over the airwaves.
ReplyDeleteDon't forget the Palins ruined DWTS for America.
ReplyDeleteRuined the dairy industry in Alaska.
Ruined the Anchorage Police Dept.
Ruined the image of Wasilla.
Ruined politics in Alaska.
It must be the Sarah Palin Curse?
Uhhh, dwts is still watched by the people who genuinely love it.
DeleteDairy still exists there.
So do police depts :/
YOURE ignorant judgments ruined things for you regarding Alaska. Most people still view it as the majestic place it is and more and more people are moving there.
Oh yes, Sarah ruined ALaskan politics, which is why dozens of politicians 20 years her senior were FAR worse than she could hope to be. Which is why Alaskans think PArnell is FAR WORSE than she has EVER ben depicted as being.
Get a life. Seriously. You're just so sad.
Hey, 5:18.
DeleteEncourage your QUEEN
To run 2016
Rhyme intended. The slap down will MAH-ve-lous.
Bristle, Is that you?. The spelling and context seem familiar. Yeah we're sad all right. Sad that you are still contaminating our airspace.
DeleteMoron. the OP didn't say Sister Sarah eliminated or decimated those things, just that she ruined them. Sarah Palin has done more to tarnish the reputation of Alaskan politics than anyone before her.
DeleteYou can have Alaska. I'll stay here in beautiful Colorado.
5:18pm
DeleteSure, the "dairy" still exists but from the beginning I felt that I would not wish to risk my life and health to eat anything that came from that dirty and disgustingly run place that masquerades as a "dairy". Ick.
Granted, the local "cheese" that they prepare and sell really isn't even cheese. We have gourmet cheese bars in our local grocery stores and craft food stores that actually sell real cheese. Yes, it's not cheap, but cheese is a craft and it is best done by some of the more established dairies in Europe and even in America there are some great options from NoCal. Matanuska Dairy/Creamery?
Wouldn't touch any of their products ever, even though I buy local when I can. The disgusting nature of their products and even more disgusting nature of their management turned me off long ago. There are some things you can't "Buy Alaska" for and one of those is cheese.
Hey 5:18 what about your Pimp Daddy's Prostitution Ring? Will any of you Palins ever DENY Todd Palin's Pimping? What's that, 'CRICKETS'? Your HOME-SCHOOLING in Wasilla does not teach you UNEDUCATED MORONS any of the Basic English Grammar usage. Try using a Teleprompter or a THESAURUS(PALINS:What's that?).
DeleteThesauruses walked the earth 6000 years ago and humans rode them. Ask any Heath/Palin.
DeleteYour, you're. Learn spelling and usage, you stupid cocksucker.
DeleteThesauruses? Well Jesus rode them; it's in the Bible. Jerry told us so.
DeletePlus, Sarah Palin (Todd and Bristol) have ruined the reputation of Alaska. The majority of us wish we'd never heard of the family and wish they'd get the hell out of dodge! They hide when in state - you never see them - in Wasilla or Anchorage.
DeleteThey understand they are NOT regarded well.
Sarah has gone down as Alaska's worst 'quitter' governor. She was, and continues to be, a total idiotic mess and the Juneau folks really disliked her.
Hell awaits her there is no doubt!
I don't have friends that do not excel at critical thinking. I do not engage family members that do not exercise critical thinking. I have neither time nor attention to give to idiots.
ReplyDeletethat cartoon really sums it up.
ReplyDeleteI have family members who are glued to faux... you would think that after this last election, they might have done some soul searching. but no. makes me think there is some truth to the whole idea that there are several sub-species of humans - that we may look the same, but we're not all the same.
Did you hear the Penn Gillette interview? That's one way to do it. Gillette has been on Beck and w/ Trump - and he explains why.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/11/17/penn-jillette-donald-trump-atheism_n_2151055.html
I love the cartoon as well, but she, herself, has become a caricature of the caricature they portrayed her to be, and a poor one at that.
ReplyDeleteI watch Fox every once in awhile for giggles and squirts, mostly from your blog posts. (It's like a flu shot to prepare my immune system for family gatherings.)
I think the 22 percent who rely on Fox as their only source of news ARE dangerous.
Well, there's a petition at We the People to revoke their broadcast license and prosecute them for treason . . .
ReplyDeletewh.gov/lxFl
It's invisible until it gets 150 signatures.
I have friends who are educated and have maintained outstanding careers that are Republicans and watch nothing but FOX. It just amazes me!
ReplyDeleteTheir talking points no longer have substance as far as I'm concerned and it has harmed our friendship. I've lost respect for them and really don't want to be around them.
Why hasn't Todd Palin come out and publicly deny that he is a pimp or had sex with Shailey Tripp?
