Gabby Giffords gives powerful testimony in front of Senate Judiciary Comittee on gun violence.

Perhaps the most powerful single spokesperson for gun control legislation in this country, and hands down one of the most courageous people on the planet.

I actually choked up a little while watching her struggle to get her words out.

You'll notice that NOBODY dared to heckle Gabby as she was speaking.

Marriage is meant to protect society from the threat of Bristol Palin's out-of-wedlock baby

In the quest to protect 'Merica from the creeping Sharia feminist gay threat, the brave defenders of the sanctity of Newt Gingrich's three marriages have come up with what is quite possibly the most epically ridiculous argument ever:

Marriage should be limited to unions of a man and a woman because they alone can "produce unplanned and unintended offspring," opponents of gay marriage have told the Supreme Court.

Waaaaaaait a second. Only boy-girl sex can produce unplanned pregnancies—and that's a good thing? The very same sanctimonious whiners who say they're only hating gay people to protect family values and the kids and stuff ... Now they want to encourage unplanned pregnancies? Even though all the research in the history of forever shows that unplanned pregnancies actually undermine those precious boy-girl relationships? And are also bad for women. And their children. And society. And the almighty dollar. But let's just put all that stuff aside so the bigots can 'splain how this isn't totally bugfuck crazytalk:

The traditional marriage laws "reflect a unique social difficulty with opposite-sex couples that is not present with same-sex couples — namely, the undeniable and distinct tendency of opposite-sex relationships to produce unplanned and unintended pregnancies," wrote Clement, a solicitor general under President George W. Bush. "Unintended children produced by opposite-sex relationships and raised out-of-wedlock would pose a burden on society."

"It is plainly reasonable for California to maintain a unique institution [referring to marriage] to address the unique challenges posed by the unique procreative potential of sexual relationships between men and women," argued Washington attorney Charles J. Cooper, representing the defenders of Proposition 8. Same-sex couples need not be included in the definition of marriage, he said, because they "don't present a threat of irresponsible procreation."

Waaaaaaait a second. So unplanned pregnancies are a bad thing after all? And only heterosexual couples can impose this "social difficulty" and "burden on society" by getting accidentally knocked up, so only they need marriage to protect us from the threat of their children? That's the new legal argument against marriage equality? Marriage should be limited to one man and one woman **because Bristol Palin's accidental, unplanned out-of-wedlock baby threatens and burdens society**.

Well, okay, maybe they have a point. Or maybe, just maybe, they should accept that it's the 21st century, and the number of cranky old people who don't believe in equality is dwindling every day—and most Americans are just fine with that.

Gabby is certainly one courageous woman. I respect Mark for being there with her every step of the way.

Every time I see Gabby, I think of the fact that she called Palin out for the crosshairs map. Just disgusting that Palin was allowed to rattle on the way she did for so long.

Giffords: ‘Be bold. Be courageous’. She uttered just 71 words. But Gabrielle Giffords, in delivering her first extended public remarks since she was gunned down in Tucson two years ago, created perhaps the most emotional moment in the fraught debate over the nation’s gun laws.

Gabby Giffords To Lawmakers: "Speaking is difficult but I need to say something important. Too many children are dying. We must do something. You must act. Be bold. Be courageous. Americans are counting on you."

The conservative claim, made by Trotter, that guns are an "equalizer" is about as serious a misrepresentation as you can muster when it comes to violence against women. Most violence against women is perpetuated by men the victim knows in situations that are intimate or social, where guns aren't usually out. If someone during a domestic violence incident scrambles for the gun, it's rarely going to be the person who doesn't want this situation to get more violent. It's particularly outrageous for Trotter to float this line of nonsense so soon after the headline-grabbing murder of Kasandra Perkins. Having guns in the house didn't save her, and if Jovan Belcher hadn't been able to unload nine bullets into her by simply grabbing a gun on hand, it's likely she'd still be alive.

The fact of the matter is that more guns put women in danger. The Harvard Injury Control Research Center has found that states with more guns have more female violent deaths. Their research also found that batterers who owned guns liked to use them to scare and control their victims, and would often use the gun to threaten the victim, threaten her pets or loved ones, clean them menacingly during arguments, or even fire them to scare her. The Violence Policy Center's research showed that in 1998, the year they studied, 83 women were killed by an intimate partner for every woman who used a gun in self-defense. Futures Without Violence compiled the statistics and found that guns generally make domestic violence worse, both by increasing the likelihood of murder and also by creating situations where abuse is more violent, controlling, and traumatic.

An intoxicated woman in Milwaukee says that she fired a weapon because she had heard a sheriff's ad saying that citizens should get “in the game” instead of calling 911.

So it's a "game" to him?

The sheriff should go to jail with the drunk lady. If a bartender can be jailed for over-serving a customer, that man should be jailed for encouraging law-breaking.

As Wayne LaPierre Testified Against Gun Control, Another Multiple Shooting Occurred in Phoenix, AZ

...This is the argument that LaPierre has made for hours today, and it was completely undone by one piece of news out of Phoenix, AZ. According to the Arizona Republic, “At least three people are injured after a shooting occurred in Phoenix Wednesday morning, officials said. Around 10:30 a.m., officials reported that three people had suffered gunshot wounds in a building on the 7300 block of 16th Avenue, officials said. It is unknown if the shooter is in custody.”

In a nutshell, this is why the NRA is going to lose this fight. Every time they try to argue that guns aren’t the issue, more people get shot. The NRA has adopted a strategy that I like to call Crazy and Gamey. According to the NRA, the real problems are crazy people and violent video games. The Crazy and Gamey strategy is meant to shift the focus away from the role of guns in gun violence. The fact that people with mental health issues have easy access to guns is not the problem.

While the NRA is blaming everything but the gun, more people are being shot with guns.

For this reason alone, the NRA and their smokescreen of pro-gun propaganda are destined to fail.

Gabby is an inspiration. God bless her and her husband. In my opinion Sarah Palin didn't pull the trigger but she certainly was provoking the gun nuts with her "surveyor marks" cross hairs, scope sight marks or whatever you want to call it. She should have been yanked from broadcasting on the air after her "blood libel speech" never to return to the screen. I will forever blame her for the severe dangerous US hate filled country that we are living in today and total disrespect of our sitting president.
