Courtesy of Politico:
Actress Ashley Judd privately met with officials at the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee in Washington earlier this week, as she continues to weigh whether to mount a Senate run against Kentucky Sen. Mitch McConnell, according to two sources familiar with the session.
According to one person familiar with the matter, Tuesday’s meeting was Judd’s first formal one with officials at the DSCC, which coordinates strategy, recruits and fundraises on behalf of Democratic Senate candidates. DSCC officials refused to comment, saying they would not discuss candidate recruitment.
The meeting indicates that the Hollywood movie star and eighth-generation Kentuckian is still seriously weighing a political foray after spending the past several years as an outspoken environmental and liberal activist. But sources said it remains uncertain whether Judd wants to leave acting to take on the Senate minority leader, who is the Democrats’ top target in 2014 when he runs for a sixth term.
You know the thought of the very liberal Ashley Judd knocking the obstructionist Mitch McConnell on his ass is such a compelling idea that I can barely see straight.
The guy has been a HUGE thorn in the President's side, and his defeat would be a great step in helping to move the President's policies forward in his second term.
And let's face it, if there is no legal reason why Judd cannot be on the ballot, she is almost guaranteed to take this seat. At least that's my opinion.
Is this the Democrats version of Sarah Palin...but with real beauty and real brains? Just might work. It got Gpryph's attention. :-)
ReplyDeleteI bet Ashley can show up her college degree! LOL
DeleteShe has a PhD from Harvard in public policy. She's the "rill dill." Suck it up Sorry Sarah.
DeleteAshley Judd has a Mid-Career Masters in Public Administration not a Ph.D.
DeleteShe is well educated, articulate, certainly attractive and holds her own in conversations and as a speaker. McConnell really has done so much damage because of his/the right's obsession with making Obama a one term prez. It is way past time for him to go. I wish her the best and hope she runs.
ReplyDeletePat Padrnos
I so hope she runs against him. I've heard her speak - outside of being an actress and she is excellent. Plus, she is extremely well educated and would be a much easier person to handle vs the grumpy old white guy that is a proven jerk! It's way past time that he goes!
ReplyDeleteFun Constitutional factoid: No Person shall be a Senator who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty Years, and been nine Years a Citizen of the United States, and who shall not, when elected, be an Inhabitant of that State for which he shall be chosen. [U.S. Constitution, Article I, section 3, clause 3]
ReplyDeleteAll the pissing and moaning about her currently living in Tennessee doesn't mean a damn thing.
Ok, first, DAMN she is such a radiantly gorgeous woman to gaze upon, isn't she? Like a cool brook or a soft whisp of wind in a quiet meadow. That woman has POWER!
ReplyDeleteI applaud your sunny and optimistic attitude Gryphen, but I'm afraid you are underestimating how ugly McConnell and his cohorts can be. They will do EVERYTHING they can to smear and discredit her and sully her reputation. They will dig deep in the archives to find something to spin and twist her background, her family, her movie roles, her previous speeches, taking things out of context by creatively editing. They'll track down people in Hollywood who've worked with her, they'll try to go after her newly ex-husband and his reputation/history...trust me, the better she does, the more desperate they will get. The more desperate they get the uglier it will become. As AWESOME as she is, this ain't gonna be no cakewalk and her national reputation will take a beating. It may even effect future film roles.
That said, I would whoop an' holler if she managed to smack ol' Turtleface right off the political map (of course we would see him sign right up with FOX Noise). It would be a glorious day to see him and Ron Paul taken out of Washington, permanently. Maybe Kentucky will come to their senses this time around.
Lastly, our president is doing us proud and the American people are noticing it!
Poll: President Obama approval highest since '09
President Barack Obama’s job approval is at the highest level since his first year in office, and Americans prefer his economic message to that of his increasingly unpopular GOP opponents, according to a poll released Wednesday.
Fifty-five percent of Americans approve of Obama’s job performance, the highest since September 2009, according to the Bloomberg poll. Forty percent disapprove. Only 35 percent have a favorable view of the Republican party, and 55 percent have an unfavorable outlook.

Just imagine how that news makes Sarah's teeth knash and grit and puts her panties in a wad and that poor refrigerator takes yet another beating.
“…increasingly unpopular GOP opponents…” I love that.
Delete"And let's face it, if there is no legal reason why Judd cannot be on the ballot, she is almost guaranteed to take this seat."
ReplyDeleteGuaranteed? Seriously? And the fact that she's an outspoken liberal environmentalist in a coal producing state doesn't give you pause?
The thing about coal mining is no one wants to do it. It's a shitty job but when you live in an economically depressed area and you want to make a living well, that's the only thing available. You either leave or become a miner.
DeleteThat said, if Ashley Judd were able to make a strong argument for a better way of life without mining she would have the backing of the people. That's the kind of political fight that is important for our country and the middle class on so many levels. Think outside the box.
Some interesting things about Kentucky:
DeleteThe population centers are Louisville and Lexington. Lexington is a college town. These are the two most progressive areas of the state.
There are fewer and fewer people in the coal business because the machines have taken over some of the labor involved in mining coal. The residents of Eastern Kentucky are very dependant on gov. assistance, and won't like McConnell cutting their benefits.
Women in Kentucky are very independant thinkers, and pride themselves on strength. The women love the Judds in Kentucky. The state could be blue in the forseeable future.
Republicans have not helped the coal business as much as one would think, for the level of support the coal industry has heaped on Republicans. They could be re-thinking their alliance with the Republicans, esp. if Hillary is going to run and win in 2016.
I live in Kentucky and coal isn't anywhere near as important an industry here as you seem to think it is. It's not even in the top five. And those of us who live here (and, yes, those who are EMPLOYED in the industry) think Ms. Judd is just fine. We actually happen to appreciate clean air and water, and we certainly do love our mountains. Now go sit in yonder corner and STFU about things you know nothing about.
DeleteI didn't say she couldn't be elected, merely that "guaranteed" might be a little hyperbolic. So why don't you STFU, genius, and maybe work on your reading comprehension.
DeleteSpeaking of reading comprehension, 4:15, do you even know what the word ALMOST means. As in "almost guaranteed"?
DeleteSorry, that should read 4:55, not 4:15. Sorry about that.
DeleteWow, you guys don't tolerate any dissension at all, do you. Just like Sarah Palin. Soooo fucking sorry.
DeleteOh we allow dissension, just not STUPID dissension.
DeleteYOU were the one who jumped on HALF of what Gryphen stated and then complained when slammed for it.
Hopefully we'll be hearing a lot more from this "delicate, tiny, very talented celebrity starlet"...
ReplyDeleteWith such a large national audience, Palin didn't talk about the plethora of issues facing Alaska. Why would she? She has much bigger fish to fry. She decided to slam Ashley Judd instead. Yes, really.
I don't know Ashley Judd, but I like her. I know this must shock the Palinistas; they think I dislike Sarah because she's pretty. According to Palin, she is some sort of Hollywood pixie; a "delicate, tiny, very talented celebrity starlet." I don't judge Ms. Judd on her stunning appearance; but on the criteria of her politics...just like Palin.
"...you're going to see anti-hunting, anti-second amendment circuses from Hollywood and here's how they do it. They use these delicate, tiny, very talented celebrity starlets, they use Alaska as a fundraising tool for their anti-second amendment causes. Stand strong, and remind them patriots will protect our guaranteed, individual right to bear arms, and by the way, Hollywood needs to know, we eat, therefore we hunt."

"... we eat, therefore we hunt."
Delete~~~~~~~~~~
Do you eat Sarah?? It seems you wanted to be the tiny very talented celebrity starlet. How did that work out for ya? Bwahahaha!
Bristol (and Sarah)
ReplyDeleteGaze upon Ashley and honestly evaluate how you compare to her .. she has brains, looks and talent .. what do you have?
Well Ma and Pa, what dos wezz have?
DeleteIts what "does wezz has."
Deletefixed it for ya.
It's time for Yertle, the Turtle (Dr. Seuss) to fall from his perch back into the pond scum from which he came.
ReplyDeleteWhere does she stand on education? Is she in the Obama camp for Race to the Top and for Michelle Rhee's Student First?
ReplyDeleteOverall, I like her as a Demo candidate, and would like her to be the sister I never had, but I'll reserve my full political support until I know where she stands on education.
Right because your support of such a well equipped, high recognition candidate, who is ready and willing to take on Mitch "Our number open priority is to make President Obama a one term candidate" McConnell hinges on her stance on education.
DeleteGreat thinking.
Yep, it sure does. I'm a teacher by profession. I believe in teacher's union and all other unions that stand for the average Jane. I'd rather unions not be messed with but if it happens, I'd rather be screwed by a Republican than a member of my own. I do believe Obama, Arne, and Rhee want to screw teachers unions. And Race to the Top... more like ERASE to the Top. But let's not talk about that and let's pretend it's all good 'cuz Obama and Rhee have a D after their names. And the Republicans are the super bad guys. Oh and drones, it's okay if Obama does it because he's Dem. snicker
DeleteAgain so yes, where she stands on education is damn important to me.
Yep. I'm to the left of Obama.
Sorry, just couldn't have a political discussion with this woman. Soon as she looked directly at me I would melt into a warm puddle of pudding.
ReplyDeleteGryph,While I share your enthusiasm for Ashley Judd, polls show The Turtle crushing her. You have to remember this is Kentucky. You know, where people go to their family reunions to find a girlfriend.
ReplyDeleteOh ye of little faith.
DeleteI'd love to see 4 eyes McTurkey kicked to the curb. It'd serve him right for not serving his constituents.
ReplyDeleteIn a fair, normal world Ashley would win hands down. I worry for the shenanigans the asshole GOPers will try to defeat/defame her as she is a serious threat. I hope she isn't hurt in any way, as I put NOTHING past these assholes. NOTHING.
ReplyDeleteThree words: buh bye Mitch.
ReplyDeleteOOPS
ReplyDelete...I saw that photograph and I think I already voted a little bit
I may be mis-remembering but didn't he nearly lose his seat during the last election cycle?
ReplyDeletewhy, yes, he did! And he's been picking up steam rolling downhill ever since. We do not like him here in Kentucky.
DeleteI also think she would win easy. I know she is going through a divorce but maybe she is just getting rid of a little excess baggage so she can better run a campaign. Lets hope so.
ReplyDeleteThe republicans LOVE divorce. Look at Ronald Regan, he was divoced, acted with an ape, and achieved GOP Sainthood status!
DeleteDid Ashley sell her home in Tennessee? Does she know own property in Kentucky?
ReplyDeleteThanks for not putting his face anywhere in the post. She's stunningly beautiful, a great actress, extremely passionate about some great liberal causes, and smart as a whip.
ReplyDeleteThis news must have Mitch climbing the walls! Couldn't happen to a better douchebag.
Go ahead, keep attacking Ashley Judd
ReplyDeleteEven if the actress-activist doesn't win the Kentucky Senate seat, Republicans' attacks will boomerang
I have no idea if Ashley Judd would win if she runs against Mitch McConnell, a prospect looking likelier by the day. I would bet, however, that a lot of Republican men are going to make themselves look like misogynist bullies in the process. For Democrats, a Judd candidacy might be a win-win — if not in Kentucky, then on the national stage.
