Stephen Colbert covers one of my favorite political fantasies, that Texas will vote Democrat in the next Presidential election.

To me having Texas go blue is ALMOST a bigger deal than if Alaska voted for the Democratic candidate.

Though I have to say that if Alaska votes Democrat in 2014 I will be over the moon and drive everybody in my life crazy about it.

Come on Texas and Alaska! We can do it!

I am a dyed-in-wool Texas Democrat. But I left the state in 1962 to go to UCLA - in the sixties! How lucky I was. But I digress. I clung to my political roots all these years and I would love to see Texas go blue!

    1. Then we are brothers from another mother-state.

I feel the same way about Alaska.

This place can't change who I am, but I will damn sure try to change it, and take it back to its roots, in any way that I can.

Fox News Could Be Facing Extinction as 29% of Their Younger Viewers Drop Fox

Younger television viewers continue to abandon Fox News in droves. In February, Fox is down another 29% with viewers age 25-54 in primetime.

While total viewership numbers remained flat for Fox News, their problem with younger viewers got worse in February. Compared to February 2012, Fox News has lost 29% of their age 25-54 viewers in primetime. Bill O’Reilly’s viewership is down 3% overall, and 29% with viewers age 25-54. Sean Hannity’s total viewership is down 11% in total, and 35% with viewers age 25-54. Greta Van Susteren’s total viewership is down 21%, and 32% with viewers age 25-54.

Rep. Keith Ellison Goes on Fox News and Absolutely Destroys Sean Hannity

Rep. Keith Ellison completely turned the tables on Sean Hannity. Instead of letting Hannity talk through and roll over him, Ellison destroyed Hannity with his own tactics.

    Video via Fox News:

...The Minnesota Democrat literally destroyed Hannity’s entire format. Hannity got so desperate that he pulled a Romney and offered to bet Ellison $10,000 that he is a registered conservative. Hannity ended up begging for a chance to speak on his own show.

Rep. Ellison did everything that frustrated viewers having been wishing someone would come on Sean Hannity’s show and do. Things got so bad for Hannity that he employed the Fox News cut and run, and ended the interview early.

Keith Ellison’s performance on Hannity was a textbook example of how a Democrat should handle appearing on Fox News. The Fox News formula is to use segment introductions and questions that box the Democrat into the Republican narrative. Ellison understood this, took control of the interview from the moment it began, and never gave it back to Hannity.

Rep. Ellison rolled Sean Hannity on his own show.

In the broader context, Ellison’s performance is a reflection of the confidence that Democrats are feeling right now. They are at the height of their powers, and Fox News is just a speed bump.

There is no such thing as a registered conservative. In the state where I live you have three choices. D-Democrat, R-Republican, or I-Independent. What the F#ck is Hannity talking about, registered conservative? I have never heard of that. Honestly, it sounds to me like the guy has never voted.

Stephen is a jewel in the crown of political comedy, there is NO doubt about that. His razor sharp intellect and his brilliant comedy chops combine for consistent edutainment all the time. What a very fine man.

I agree with you Jesse, seeing Texas turn blue would be a stunning turn of events, and if I'm not mistaken, pretty much blocks a GOP win for the White House without Texas, but more astute political wonks than I will have to confirm if that's accurate. Seems I read it somewhere...

But to have Alaska turn blue, now THAT would be an earthquake the likes of which Sarah would lose her mind over more than she already has, and would signal some very big changes in Alaska, most obviously the stranglehold the evangelicals have had on things.

Time will tell, of course, and anything can swing back and forth in politics, on a dime, but something tells me that the tide has shifted in an exponential way. Witness the surge of support for marriage equality, it's staggering to see how fast it's going. And marijuana legalization, another fast moving shift. That's just two examples that come to mind, but significant in their own rights.

BTW. Jesse, here is a new poll on how Americans worry more about gun violence than losing their jobs. This epidemic of gun violence is really tearing at the fabric of feeling secure in this country. You don't have to be anywhere in particular, and gun violence can hit...in your home (domestic abuse, home invasion, accidents with kids), at a movie theatre, in a shopping mall, just walking down the street and being hit by a stray bullet meant for someone else. And just today a GRANDMOTHER with mental health issues, took her gun with her when she picked up her grandkids from daycare, age 6 months and 2 yrs, on her grandson's 2 years old birthday, and she took them out and shot them and then herself. It's SHOCKING she had access to a gun and that allowed her to commit this tragic act.

Yes, gun violence, it's frightening people deeply and this poll supports what I've been suspecting for awhile. I felt certain you'd want to have this information, if you don't already, since you do such interesting posts on gun issues. Thanks.

The Kaiser Family Foundation asked adults how much they worry about a certain situations, ranging from their ability to afford health care to the possibility of being a victim of a terrorist attack.

It found, in a new poll out Wednesday, that Americans worry more about being a victim of gun violence than they do about losing a job or being unable to pay their mortgage.

    Please use "Democratic," not "Democrat."
Conservatives started the trend of using "Democrat," probably because it sounds vaguely ominous, with a "rat" at the end. Listen to Fox and their followers. Real Democrats say "Democratic."
Our political parties are "Democratic" and "Republican."
Otherwise, if you say "Democrat," you should use "Republic." See how ridiculous it sounds?

I wholeheartedly agree. Republicans started calling the Democratic party the "Democrat" party because it has a slightly disrespectful connotation. A person can be a Democrat, but the party is the Democratic party.

Yes...Smirnonn..that's exactly right. Even George W. Bush was called out on his use of 'Democrat Party'..and he, as usual, flipped and flopped but it's obvious why the Republicans use it: because it's disrespectful.
Probably, but I can't prove it, a Karl Rove trick. Or Lee Atwater..either way, it's used as a 'slur' against the Democrats. No doubt about it.

Texas go blue? Only if you can pry it out from under cold, brain-dead Republicans like Rick Perry, G.W. Bush, et al.

It's fascinating and encouraging to watch how the country is changing. Republicans can either change with it or go the way of the Whigs.

    Forward!!

Do you think Alaska would turn bluer if there were more women living there? I know men outnumber women in Alaska quite a lot. Just curious. I have the feeling that a lot of men voted for Sarah based on her looks. I'm not disparaging Alaskan men, I'm just stating an opinion. Did she wink and flirt her way into office?

  11. I'm a Texas Democrat living in a blue county (Dallas), and you may not know this, but we were partially responsible for Obama carrying Florida. That's right, Florida. In 2012, the Dallas County OFA office made hundreds of thousands of calls into targeted Florida homes, because we knew our state was hopeless. As it turned out, Obama didn't need Florida to win, but we knew there was no mathematical way Romney could win without Florida. Jeremy Bird (Colbert's guest) was the genius behind this, and he is spearheading the Battleground Texas movement, building on the organization already in place. Please support it any way you can. We have the numbers, and we can turn Texas blue within the next four years.

As a fifth generation Texan, I say bring it on! We were once a Democratic state, we can return to the good old days of Ann Richards. The problem is apathy. Hopefully Perry will NOT win another term. He is just the most revolting pos and extreme hypocrite who loves to gay bash, but is gay himself. Everyone please read Head Figure Head by Glen Maxey.
