Gabby Giffords responds to attempt to undermine her support of gun control laws by releasing old photos of her holding assault rifles.

So the faux "journalists" over at Breitbart got their hands on the photo above and this one down below and attempted to use them to smear Gabby and infer that she was a hypocrite for calling for stricter gun control laws.

In typical fashion Gabby did not take this lying down, took to Facebook to explain what the pictures represented:

Here are two photos of me that a conservative blog has dug up. I remember both of these days fondly. The first is at the Tucson Police Department firing range. They invited me to test rifles and tasers that they bought with federal funds, which I helped secure. The second was in Afghanistan while I was visiting with our troops serving abroad. My work as Southern Arizona's Congresswoman frequently put me in close contact with some of the world's most powerful and deadly weapons - supporting police departments, advocating for the Border Patrol, standing up for our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, and supporting my constituents' and my own Second Amendment rights. I grew up with guns, and I like owning them. So does my husband Mark. It's an interest we've shared ever since we met. It's part of my heritage as an Arizonan and it's my right as an American. Being able to shoot a gun is something I haven't been able to do since I was shot - because my right arm is paralyzed, and I'm less mobile than I was. As I member of the House Armed Services Committee, I proudly spent a lot of time with our military, border patrol and state and local law enforcement. I guess the intention of those who have publicized these photos is to somehow call into question my belief that military style assault weapons should be more strongly regulated with background checks and other safeguards. I have never wavered in my support for those who serve our country. I fought to make sure they have the weapons and safety gear needed to carry out their mission, and proper health and mental care when their service ends. Both sides of the gun violence debate usually miss the point. We don't have to choose between owning, using, and enjoying guns, on one hand, and preventing gun violence, on the other. Both sides need to come together to support commonsense solutions to gun violence, like keeping guns out of the hands of dangerous people like the young man who shot me. That's why I'm fighting this fight. That's why I'm working to bring people together to support gun rights and reduce gun violence. I hope you join me.

Gee not quite such a smoking gun now is it Breitbart?

(P.S. Before anybody feels the need to bring this up, yes I realize that Gabby could not have written this Facebook post on her own, and undoubtedly had help from her husband and possibly others, but I have little doubt that the words are essentially her own.)

Come on...... Gabby wanted to look tough and supportive of 2nd A rights for an election in gun friendly Arizona. She can't have it both ways. And look at the smile on her face, she was having a good time and certainly wasn't afraid or uncomfortable with those guns. In fact, I'd go so far as to say she's more comfy/authentic than "Photo Op" Palin was in any pix I've seen her handling guns in.

So 5:54 are you saying that Gabby is a liar? Did you read what she posted on Facebook or did you have this talking point all ready to go so it didn't matter what she said?

Jeez, 5:54, she was with the police and the military, two groups who actually have a need to be armed. She has never said she was anti-gun and never said she was uncomfortable with them. That's the point of her Facebook post.

He's from Breitbart, G linked to them. They are spewing the same shit on her facebook page "She can't have it both ways. And look at the smile on her face, she was having a good time and certainly wasn't afraid or uncomfortable with those guns. In fact" I won't go read the drivel and lies at Breitbart, glad he's dead. I can't believe how disrespectful these assholes are to a Congresswoman. Of course, I forgot, the are little two tones afraid their dicks being taken away, and Gabby is a woman.
Fuck the Right wingers and Fuck Brietbart I hope they die like he died.
Its been almost a year. G you should post his last meth/alcohol fueled Rant, Beerfart may he not rest in peace! May he rot!

    5. What a comment - criticize someone who was shot through the head - by a lunatic inspired by the likes of Breitbart and friends - you know - the ones who put cross hairs on districts - by saying she shouldn't be in favor of protecting people from assault weapons.

Right wingers who support mass murder weapons in the hands of their insane supporters - very sad

She never hid the fact that she had guns and liked to use them. I knew that without doing much research. The pictures mean nothing. I think getting shot in the head and having your constituents murdered (including a child) could change your mind about guns or the means to get them. Trying to smear this woman is the lowest of the low. The Facebook comments are atrocious. What ever happened to just disagreeing with people? Now they must be insulted and ripped to shreds. It's a disgusting time that we live in.

  3. As a former Marine,Hunter and one who believes that gun owners should pass safety requirements and a background check. I will again relate a tragedy that took place at the Fleet landing Gate ,Norfolk Navel Base,Norfolk Va.Two young Marines on duty at the gate were drawing their weapons to see who was the fastest.Unfortunatly one shot and killed the other. These two Marines knew better and were trained in the use of and safety of these weapons so how is it better to put guns in the hands of those that may know nothing about firearms or may have mental problems. Two lives were ruined that day I was on duty on the Main gate that night and I will never forget the shock And disbelief we felt.

Its never been a secret that Gabby and Mark are gun owners...Gabby from AZ and Mark a Navy veteran. Both belonged to the NRA. Shameful of Beerfart.com to smear a gun victim.

Exactly. Not much of a scoop just a way to get people angry with woman shot in the line of duty serving her constituents. Something most of the congressional cowards don't do. I'm sure granny Palin is loving this since in her mind it's Gabbie's fault for that whole "blood libel" thing. Bitch

I'm sure she wrote these words on her own. "Writing" doesn't mean using your left arm or your body or speaking vocally. You can write something in a myriad of ways. One thing she's NOT is illiterate, like Sarah Palin.

I always get a chuckle reading and hearing conservatives/libertarian/republicans parrot Rushbo about "low info voters". The phrase was used during the election to describe voters who just believe what they are told by Fox News and other RWNJ sites. It must have gotten to you folks, since your trying super hard corrupt its original intent. Sort like what you tried to do with "drinking the Kool-aid" That phrase originally applied to the righties.

  11. "I realize that Gabby could not have written this Facebook post on her own"

Most everything Gabby now does she cannot do on her own - and that is her new life. Those who attack her should have to live her new life for just one day - and see what their rhetoric has done. She who loves self and money and breitbart - will NEVER have political power again.

Words have consequences and Gabby Giffords paid for those words.

I think TS was talking about Palins words and actions, the crosshairs and her bullshit teabagging asshole crap that led up to this. "She who loves self and money and breitbart - will NEVER have political power again." TS means ASSHOLE Palin!!!!
Everyone (who is sane, that is) knows what Gabby is doing and if those asshole dissing her could spend one fucking minute of what she went through they would never diss her. But they are idiots, they are low info, they are parrots.
And imagine calling a Congresswoman all the names and crap they are doing on her facebook page? I hope they all shoot themselves in their ballz, so they can't breed.

Just went to Gabby's page and I'm sickened.
    These people are crazy.
They should not own any guns b/c they are clearly mentally ill and threatening.
I hope the FBI take a good look at her page and starts
    checking gun regs.
These people men & woman are rightist up assholes. Well what do you expect from Breitbart readers?

I've never heard such hateful people in my life, her Facebook page is full of downright hateful, disgusting comments from gun owners who do seem to be worried that they won't pass the mental test for owning a gun. Lots of mental cases on there!

I support what Gabby and Mark are trying to do. But I've got to admit, these photos of her bother me. They would have bugged me before, but now I find them downright haunting.

Do you think that before she was part of the solution, she was part of the problem? This posing with assault rifles, trying to make them look cool, just makes people who have no business owning them want them. Just my two cents.
