How the First Lady and President are inspiring America. Yes, yes they are.

Here is my favorite excerpt from the article:

The president and First Lady both seem to be in ebullient moods, and deservedly so. His surprisingly decisive reelection is now history; the tonally precise inauguration is ten days behind them. The First Lady, it must be said, is funny, and it soon becomes clear that she can’t resist an opportunity to tease her husband. The first real question I ask them is about the persistent notion among the Washington press corps that they—unlike, say, the Reagans or the Clintons—are somehow antisocial, that they don’t privately entertain enough at the White House, that they don’t break bread and smoke cigars and play poker with their enemies. When I joke that they might want to “put that idea to rest” once and for all, the president starts to answer, but his wife, whose back has gone up ever so slightly, cuts him off. “I don’t think it’s our job to put an idea to rest. Our job is, first and foremost, to make sure our family is whole. You know, we have small kids; they’re growing every day. But I think we were both pretty straightforward when we said, ‘Our number-one priority is making sure that our family is whole.’ ”

They are quick to point out that most of their friends have kids themselves, and that when they go on vacation, usually with longtime family friends and relatives, they end up with a houseful of children. “The stresses and the pressures of this job are so real that when you get a minute,” the First Lady says, “you want to give that extra energy to your fourteen- and eleven-year-old. . . .” “Although,” her husband says, a big grin spreading across his face, “as I joked at a press conference, now that they want less time with us, who knows? Maybe you’ll see us out in the clubs.”

“Saturday night!” says the First Lady. “The kids are out with their friends. Let’s go party!”

“ ‘The Obamas are out in the club again?’ ” says the president, laughing. “What is true,” he says, more seriously, “is that we probably—even before we came to Washington—had already settled in a little bit to parenthood. And. . . .” Here he pauses in the way that only President Obama can. “Let’s put it this way: I did an awful lot of socializing in my teens and 20s.

He sure did.

You know the one criticism of the President that I will NEVER understand (You know besides the whole "Fascist, Communist, Nazi" thing.) is the one that says he is cold and aloof.

I don't see that at all. ESPECIALLY when he is around the First Lady who seems to bring out the best in him.

And I have to say that based on the votes in the last election, it looks like the majority of the country feels muhc the way that I do.

The Obamas are good, decent parents. The Clintons were/are also. The GWBushes had hellraisers for daughters, i.e., underage drinking, partying, etc. But, of course, the Bushes were 'conservative Christians' so all was forgiven for their daughters' hellraising by the right-wing media.
Seriously, can you even imagine for one second if Chelsea Clinton had acted like Jenna and Barbara Bush did, what the right-wing media would have said??? They already attacked Chelsea for her looks (Rush Limbaugh, John McCain especially) but 'look' how she turned out? She's highly educated and happily married (just bought a $10 million penthouse in NYC! Good for her!)
The Obamas put their daughters' well-being and happiness before everything else. I'm proud of our president and first lady. I think they are a very class act.

  2. Ah, after a crazy kid who will end up in some sort of confinement, and crazy old men who belong in a home, these two are a breath of fresh air. My head was hurting.

Their enemies want them to socialize more so they can be accused of renting out the Lincoln bedroom and stuff.

The Washington press corps is a joke anyway. They have to gin up controversy to justify their own paychecks. If the Obama's suddenly did go all out and socialize party, I'm sure all of a sudden the Beltway Gossip would be all about how they are partying too much.

I have the greatest admiration and respect for first Lady Obama, buy why did Vogue do such a hideous photoshop job on her, taking away her robust core and making her look anorexic; taking virtually all the character from her face---making her into a a caricature of herself. If I was Michelle Obama I would sue for false representation.

Hey who among us wouldn't want to go out of their way to spend time with people who from day one have done nothing but obstruct everything you try to do, question whether you're a real 'merikun and constantly LIE about you? That the President has the patience to give them the time of day is amazing. And good on Mrs. Obama for saying looking out for their girls is a priority! This notion that if the President would just talk to the Republicans more all would be well is horseshit. Stop the whining, check your egos at the door and do your damn JOBS! The job of making laws belongs to Congress, NOT to the President.

The thing the neocons will never understand is that the man's appeal comes from the fact that he acts like a fucking person. Name the ten best conservative jazz musicians. How about the funniest right wing crazy Catskills comics? When you get to films, well, fuck, they do have John Ford, after all. But basically, they can't take, or tell a joke, they can't dance, they fuck with the lights off. They make me fuckin laugh though, I will say that for them.

The First Family personifies beauty (inner/outer), class, and compassion.

No amount of money can buy what they have. I am proud they represent us to the world.

I love the chemistry between them and how their personalities complement each other's. What struck me most in the interview was the first response

"Keeping my family whole" it sounds so simple, but it's hard work and every family can relate with.
Now imagine being the "first" anything and living in a fishbowl. If you protect your privacy just like every other First family, you're snubbing people or being "aloof". If you do choose to have people over a lot, you're neglecting your duties etc etc...

I agree with you, the majority of the American people are clearly pleased with the First Family. I don't know how they can bite their tongues with some of the stuff people say about them, but I'm glad they do.

Media Matters is usually on top of these things, but, they seemed to have missed something particularly racist today from Limbaugh.
He called President Obama an ape when discussing the Vogue cover.

"Oh, how wonderful! Michelle civilizes Barack.
Michelle turns him from his outer ape into his inner peace."

Hillary-Michelle In 2016? Clinton, Obama Pairing Dubbed A 'Dream Team' (Report)

The 2016 election may still be several years away, but some democrats are already getting excited about a political match that they say is made in heaven: Hillary Clinton and First Lady Michelle Obama on the presidential ticket.

"All due respect for President Obama and Vice President Biden, but that would truly be a dream team for America," Karen Finney, a former spokesperson for the Democratic Party and Clinton, told the Washington Examiner. "Both women are proven effective leaders who've raise children, so dealing with Congress would be a snap."

Democratic strategist Chris Lehane, who worked closely with the Clinton White House, told the paper that all this talk of a Clinton-Obama partnership "reflects the growing awareness that it is time for the glass ceiling of the last old boys club to be firmly shattered."

Though Clinton has remained enigmatic about her future in politics, Fox affiliate KTVI reports that the former secretary of state has "remained the popular choice among Democratic hopefuls" for the 2016 presidential ticket.

As for FLOTUS, Obama has previously dismissed suggestions that she will run for political office when her husband leaves the White House. Still, there has been no shortage of speculation that the powerhouse first lady will get more involved in politics in the near future.

“Nothing she’s done indicates she wants more power on the national or international front,” Debbie Walsh, director of the Center for American Women and Politics at Rutgers University, told Newsweek of Obama in December. “Yet everyone else says she has to have it.”

"I think she will run for something because I think she is just too capable, and now a public figure and interested in public policy," Lanny Davis, founder of Purple Nation Solutions, told HuffPost Live in February. "I think the temptation will be great, the public service pressure will be great, and I think her husband will say go for it."

Rep. James Clyburn (D-S.C.) told Newsweek last year that he would “love” to see Obama dabble more into politics.

“It would be a breath of fresh air in D.C.,” he said. “She’s honest and straightforward, which is not what you see in Washington much. She is exactly what we need around here.”

Rob Portman Reverses Gay Marriage Stance After Son Comes Out

Sen. Rob Portman (R-Ohio) has reversed his stance on same-sex marriage two years after learning that his son is gay, several Ohio news outlets, including the Columbus Dispatch and the Cleveland Plain Dealer, reported Friday.

In an interview with Ohio reporters in his Senate office, Portman said that his son, Will, came out to the senator and his wife in February 2011.

"It allowed me to think of this issue from a new perspective, and that's of a Dad who loves his son a lot and wants him to have the same opportunities that his brother and sister would have -- to have a relationship like Jane and I have had for over 26 years," Portman said.

Portman said that his son, who is now a junior at Yale University, inspired him to reassess his position on same-sex unions.

Paul Begala: Hillary Clinton Doesn't Need A 'Facelift,' She's 'A Real Woman,' Not A 'Republican Society Lady'

Democratic strategist and CNN contributor Paul Begala faced off against conservative media mogul Tucker Carlson for an event at CPAC on Thursday, exchanging jabs on a number of political topics. Given the opportunity, Begala also shot down a conservative audience member who attempted to get in a jab at Hillary Clinton.

The exchange came during a question about Clinton's potential presidential aspirations. Begala -- a former strategist for Bill Clinton's 1992 campaign and a steadfast Hillary supporter in 2008 -- did little to hide his excitement at the idea of the former secretary of state running in 2016.

"She would be a great president," Begala said of Clinton, going on to claim that the fact that Republicans are already attacking her is a sign they are "afraid."

"I hope she does [run] -- I have no idea if she will," Begala continued, going on to list a number of things that he believes Clinton wants to do outside of electoral politics.

"I think she's actually gonna first live a life, write her book, reacquaint herself with the real world..." he started.

"Get a facelift!" someone in the crowd interjected, seemingly channeling a topic of discussion on Fox News last month.

Begala was quick with a comeback.

"No, not get a facelift," Begala said. "She's not a Republican society lady, she's a real woman."
