Media finds that SarahPAC's newest web-ad is filled with hypocrisy and lies. Well duh, it IS an ad for Sarah Palin!

Courtesy of the Daily Beast:

Sarah Palin attempted to relaunch her political career and her political action committee, SarahPAC, on Thursday with a Web video called “Loaded for Bear,” which presented the former Alaska governor as the new kingmaker for conservative populists in the GOP.

The video riffed off her speech at CPAC, in which Palin railed against “the big consultants, the big money men, and the big bad media.” But there’s an irony alert ahead: the current stated purpose of SarahPAC is to raise money ahead of the 2014 election—most of which will be spent on conservative consultants.

Don't believe me? Well, this is a perfect time to page through SarahPAC’s Federal Election Commission filings, which—helpfully enough—were just released yesterday.

Seen through the lens of the invaluable Center for Responsive Politics, Palin’s PAC spent $5.1 million in the last election cycle (more than it raised in that time period, raising some questions about Palin’s claims of fiscal responsibility).

But the real news comes when you look at how donors’ money was actually doled out: just $298,500 to candidates. The bulk of the rest of it, more than $4.8 million, went to—you guessed it—consultants.

That’s some seriously hypocritical overhead.

These are the top-line costs of life in PAC era. But the devilish details in expense reports are what makes it really come alive. Palin’s chief PAC consultant, Tim Crawford, pocketed more than $321,000 this election cycle in direct payments alone, according to the documents. Aries Petra Consulting was taking in between $6,000 and $8,000 a month for speechwriting and “grassroots consulting”—something that sounds like an oxymoron, but ended up costing north of $160,000. C&M Transcontinental racked up $10,000 a month in management consulting, which is hard to imagine for a PAC whose job is simply to raise money and spend it on candidates. Inside SarahPAC, there were consultants for research and consultants for logistics and consultants for issues and on and on and on. It's hard to find any area where consultants weren’t employed. So when Palin thundered at CPAC that “Now is the time to furlough the consultants, and tune out the pollsters, send the focus groups home and throw out the political scripts, because if we truly know what we believe, we don’t need professionals to tell us”—it was a riff written by speechwriters and informed by all tools she tried to diss.

Just like Sarah Palin to attack the very people that she uses herself, to help her attack them. Kind of like reading  a quip about the President relying on a teleprompter off of a teleprompter.

The woman has no self awareness whatsoever.

As I am sure most of you surmised the majority of the money spent by Palin's personal piggybank was for the ever hard to define "postage," which this time came to an incredible $957,385. (That is a lot of forever stamps my friends!) I don't think anything helps to illustrate that this is a tool for money laundering quite like the amount spent on this so-called "postage."

Personally I am thrilled that SarahPAC came out with this ad because it has invited the kind of media scrutiny that we all know Palin cannot withstand.

The hypocrisy of the attack on consultants was not the ONLY red flag identified by the media, there was also the contention that her endorsements were crucial to the election of some of the current conservative headliners.

This from the Tampa Bay Times:

Sarah Palin, enjoying a mini resurgence after her CPAC speech, is trying to feed her PAC and promoting herself as a kingmaker. In a new video, her PAC takes credit for picking winners from Ted Cruz to Marco Rubio.

But anyone who follows Florida politics knows Rubio kept a distance from Palin and she only showed interest after he was surging.

From a Nov. 8, 2010, Tampa Bay Times/Miami Herald story: Rubio had an opportunity to cozy up to tea party darling and former vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin, but his campaign never emphasized her support. "Marco, keep up the good work. Call me. Can I help ya?" Palin told a conservative blogger who asked about Rubio at a conservative gathering in New Orleans in April. He never did. In the final stretch of the campaign, when it was clear he would win, Rubio showed up to a big rally in Orlando featuring Palin. But he left before she came on stage, denying opponents a photograph that could be used against him in the future.

Yeah Rubio may be young but even he recognized the smell of a rotted political corpse when he got a whiff of one.

Well clearly Sarah Palin was desperate for attention, and hoped this new ad would attract it. I wonder if she is happy with the result?

And does ANYBODY really think this web- ad will bring any significant money into the SarahPAC coffers?

Cause I don't. So I guess Palin will have to find some other way to keep paying off that hush money postage.

I really doubt that the "postage expenditures" are for stamps. More likely this is their cover for Postal Money Orders. These can be purchased at any post office; do not require a payee to be identified at time of purchase, and can be cashed at ANY bank or post office. Seems like a pretty good way to move money with out a paper trail.

All that money for consultants and Sarah dresses as if she was going to a tractor pulling contest. All that money for consultants and Sarah sounds like the mean girl in high school attacking her rival for Prom Queen.
All that money for consultants and Sarah's only pitch seems to be "donate to me." That's not a plan. That's begging.

We used to think that some of the postage and consultant fees went to pay for Trig's expensive therapy, but we can rule that out. Chuck Heath Sr. gave a radio interview on March 21, and he revealed that Trig is not potty trained. Trig can only say a few words. His biggest pleasures seem to be looking at the stuffed animals in Chuck Sr.'s house and watching videos, especially animated videos, with the baby sitter.

Sarah's PAC spent more than it took in. That's not being fiscally conservative. And, I have no idea what those consultants do since Sarah is as off the rails as she has ever been. Ghost writing must be a very good business. It might also cost a tidy sum to keep people from talking, writing or giving interviews. "This should make up for the book that you're not going to write." Yes, consulting has been very very to me. It's worth plenty.

Don't you know family and anyone she needs to buy off has a set up like Bristol's LLC and is a paid "consultant". I bet Trig earns his keep by heading his own corp and consulting. Alleged he is in an Arizona pre-school now, as highly educated as the rest of them.

They know how to hide their corporations and properties who will ever know. McCain won't be investigated and neither will the Palins. Not for any financial dealings. Remember McCain's history.

It baffles me as to what they actually provide to her. She doesn't need consultants for the "punch lines" she spews. She has a list of the one liners she has used in the past and grabs her new ones from the headlines. What do they do? And the postage - well, everyone knows that is a slush bucket fund for family and nannies to take care of Trig.

A consultant is anyone who looks stuff up for Sarah using Google. Track googled info about the Statute of Liberty for Sarah. That takes a lot of time, and if you're not picking fish, you can use the $$$$.

Bristol gets paid and with some of her money she pays off others so they stay quiet. Remember Wasilla was part of a major criminal endeavor. Bristol was a source of problems for Sarah. Bristol needs to keep up a lifestyle and part of her job is to pay off people she brought into the scene. There are others who pay off lesser players and nothing will be traced back to the mother duck or bear or whatvr she is this week.

Once the Palin's get their hands on money, they don't like to give it back up. But you can bet your buttons that they've got the skinny on certain higher ups around here and have little to fear of any unwanted info getting out. It won't be until those people have to save their own ass (cough Dairy Gate cough) that they will start talking.

I worked for a national corporation that had a state audit. Some of the scam techniques were wild. Like new TVs were purchased in mass for rooms. The inventory in part was lost or stolen. Actually they turned up sold on the black market. Many other schemes were common. The same could be done with postage inventory. Sometimes it was just done on paper.

She suffers from a sort of manic depression, and slips into it when she doesn't get enough attention, then goes manic to GET the attention. She was dropping all that money on consultants when she was considering running in 2012. If you notice the types of consultants listed they generally relate to someone trying to learn the finer points of running a national campaign. There were also some consultants listed that were simply trying to shove some more knowledge into that head of hers. I'm sure that pretty soon all involved realized, just as her handlers in 2008 did, that she simply can't be "trained", she can't retain knowledge. So Palin spent $5 million to find out what everyone else already knew, that she's simply not qualified to run for higher office.

Has anyone ever contacted the FBI to investigate her PAC? The IRS too? I'm wondering if political people across the nation ALL handle their PACS in this manner and that is why we never hear of someone landing in jail for personally living off them.

It sounds as though it is nothing more than a convenient fund to live off personally! At least, it appears so in Sarah Land!

As always - she continues to be nothing more than a liar and fraud! It's time more and more folks across the nation learn this!

PACS are designed to easily abused. Even more easily abused are SuperPacs. I'm sure part of her consultant fees go to lawyers and accountants that are well versed in gleaning the highest financial reward from her PAC and doing it well within the legal guidelines, which are very "elastic".

When Stephen Colbert formed his SuperPac he hired political lawyer Trevor Potter to give him advice. There are some great episodes online dealing with Colbert and his SuperPac and just how easy it is to funnel the money to his own pocket.

Pacs and SuperPacs are developed by lawyers specifically to "work around" existing FEC regulations. They are made to be slippery and slimy and easy to abuse.

Sarah Palin is just playing the same game that many other "politicians" play and many do it with much more money than she has run through her Pac.

SarahPac looks like a money scam.

Which brings up the question how did Sarah Palin get her red two story lake side house built in Wasilla?

Just a coincidence that Palin changed the laws that did not require plans or inspections on her new house and it is just a coincidence that materials used in her house looks like the materials used in the Wasilla hockey rink built sorta close to Sarah's house. There is no record on file who built Sarah's house. The Palins said that Todd and a couple of buddies built it.

If you are wondering why Palin would ever endorse a Democrat, it would only be to highlight the weakness of that candidate, and hope that he would rise to national recognition, only to embarrass the Democratic Party. Mr. Johnson received the lowest amount given to any candidate by the SarahPAC, $2500.00.Johnson is a convicted felon and was guilty of fraud, and embezzlement. Perhaps Palin hoped to divert attention from the crimes committed by her husband by giving money to Mr.Johnson. However she should have used that $2500.00 to support the Todd Palin defense fund since Johnson is not relevant any longer but Todd Palin is."

    SusanWo4p • 19 minutes ago −
Let me add to the conversation regarding SarahPac expenditures.
Do you have any idea how difficult it is for a grass-roots organization to traverse the mine field that has been created by the Federal Elections Commission?
Stacks of red tape, rule and codes all written in an absurdly confusing fashion designed to "trip up" honest people so that you can throw a costly, embarrassing FEC VIOLIATION at them and label them as unethical.
The FEC system has intentionally been designed to make it IMPOSSIBLE to run a political organization WITHOUT an attorney that specializes in such things. Political movers and shakers have made it nearly impossible for ordinary Americans to get involved in politics.
What makes it worse is that the "rules" are randomly enforced...usually the people with "friends in high places" get all sorts of free passes for not following the codes to the letter...but folks with "enemies in high places" will target them for excruciating oversight and nit-picking.
Obama can do whatever he pleases, with or without the FEC approval. He's above the law and doesn't need to worry about the nuisance of it all. But it wouldn't surprise me at all if the FEC has a team of people whose one job is to track every single thing she does, in the hopes that her team will make some kind of mistake, which they can then ANNOUNCE TO THE NATIONAL MEDIA WHO WILL THEN TAKE IT AND MAKE INTO A MAJOR SCANDAL. They would love to be able to use the news of "FEC violations" against her reputation and her PAC.
For that reason alone, I hope Sarah is spending GOOD MONEY to ensure her Pac is one step ahead of the political henchmen at the FEC.
Additionally, if Sarah ever plans to run for office again, she is going to need a team of experienced, sharp, skilled folks around her...people that she trusts, who are not in any way connected to the Beltway schemers, so she can run a campaign without having to worry about DC insiders infiltrating. WORTH EVERY PENNY.

Griffin - I guess you're teasing about the 'postage' expense to annoy Palin.

The 'postage' detail in the FEC reports actually looks legit, though it is excessive and it would be more accurate to label most of it as 'fundraising'. The payments are to real companies for producing and sending mass mailings and to the Post Office for the enclosed postage-paid return envelopes. I don't see any 'postage' payments for money orders . (I'm assuming--which may not be wise--that the PAC isn't fraudulently reporting the 'postage' vendors.)

The problem with focusing on the 'postage' payments is that we may be missing the areas of actual grifting.

Thanks for confirming that it IS postage money orders that Granny Grifter is using to pay off her family.

You should have kept your comment to yourself. Both of them.

Along with "postage" there should be the costs of graphic design and printing. In one reporting period, it was Sally Heath who was paid $3,000. for postage. Seriously, do you think that Sally was licking each stamp and sealing each envelope? Email is cheaper.

Hey, I'm on your side. You missed my point and my motivation, which is to seriously look at Palin's grifting which would be better hidden in other accounts.

Anyone who bothers to look at the FEC report details would understand what I'm trying to say. The PAC did a miserable job labeling costs for fundraising and marketing as 'postage'. But it would be pretty hard to skim personal $$$ from payments to those companies. Plus, the FEC could easily find fraud by auditing the actual checks and verifying the payments to the companies listed.

The significant amount of what's called 'postage' was paid to:

      ABC Mailers
      Southwest Publishing & Mailing
      MDI Imaging & Mail
      Advanced Response Systems
      RST Marketing
U.S. Post Office - BRE postage (business return envelopes {google it})

Minor amounts were paid to the Wasilla P.O. and included in expense reports.

When all this SarahPac shit hits the fan it won't be Sarah left holding the bag.

My advice to SarahPac employees, Alaska state and Wasilla city employees and to everybody else whose hands are dirty doing Sarah's bidding is to start recording and preserving evidence for your plea bargains, movie and book deals.

Somebody is going down and unless you protect yourselves its going to be YOU!

I would phrase the argument a different way. Sarah is no longer popular or powerful. Someone is going to spill the beans and make a lot of money talking about Trig and every other deal that Sarah pulled. (House, legal defense fund, skimming from PAC, just a start). Somebody is going to be the first and they are going to cash in. It might as well be you.

While Railing Against Consultants, Sarah Palin Spent Millions on Republican Consultants

...There is only one problem with this.

Sarah Palin spent millions of dollars on Republican political consultants in 2012.

Palin only gave about $300,000 to candidates last year. The rest of the bulk of the money went to consultants. Consultants got a piece of every bit of spending that SarahPAC did in 2012. John Avalon looked at the expense account reports for SarahPAC and found that, “Palin’s chief PAC consultant, Tim Crawford, pocketed more than $321,000 this election cycle in direct payments alone, according to the documents. It’s hard to find any area where consultants weren’t employed.”

When people give Sarah Palin’s PAC money so that she can battle the Republican consultants, they are actually paying more Republican consultants. The whole shell game is a giant con. Sarah Palin isn’t spending money on candidates. She is paying consultants to keep the Sarah Palin brand alive. Anybody who gives money to SarahPAC isn’t fighting the consultant machine. They’re supporting it.

Some who don’t understand how Sarah Palin operates may be outraged. Others will incorrectly try to shrug this off as her stupidity in action, but it is neither. This is the way Sarah Palin operates. She is a cunning hypocrite who will exploit any opening for her own financial gain.

She thinks she can get away with anything...

California Chick-Fil-A Offers Free Meals To Gay Marriage Supporters

A California Chick-fil-A did something shocking for same-sex marriage supporters this week: Supported them.

Corey Braun, the franchisee of the Chick-fil-A in the Victoria Gateway Center in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., provided dozens of free meal coupons to a group of same-sex marriage advocates demonstrating Monday at an intersection near the restaurant, PinkNews notes.

The move came months after Chick-fil-A president Dan Cathy revealed his anti-gay stance in a July interview, saying he is "guilty as charged" when it comes to his franchise's "support of the traditional family."

"There were a lot of things said over the past year," Braun told the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin. "I wanted to show that Chick-fil-A doesn't discriminate against anybody. We serve everyone. We're happy to serve the community and this was an opportunity to have this group come in and show them our hospitality regardless of their beliefs, sexual orientation, or whatever. Chick-fil-A has never been about hate"

Back on Aug. 1, hundreds flocked to the Rancho Cucamonga restaurant on "Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day" in defense of Cathy and his anti-gay marriage comments. But on Monday, things were different, and same-sex couples and same-sex marriage backers were surprised at Braun's act.

"[W]hen people are open and apologetic and accepting, it's touching to us," Eden Anderson, a board member with LGBT rights group Equality Inland Empire, told the Daily Bulletin. "It feels like acceptance and we just want to be accepted and engaged in society, so when it's confirmed, I think the overall reaction was, yes, certainly that Chick-fil-A in Rancho Cucamonga is welcoming to us."

    Meanwhile,

CNN’s John Avlon Rips Apart Palin For Using Consultants On ‘Every Issue Imaginable’ Despite Railing Against Them

During her CPAC speech earlier this month, Sarah Palin railed against political consultants, diminishing their value and emphasizing a more grassroots form of political activism. Unfortunately for Palin, as CNN’s John Avlon reported this afternoon, the former governor herself has spent a “vast amount of money” on consultants.

Half of Ted Cruz’s political claims are false, PolitiFact reports

Since his arrival on the national political scene, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz has been making headlines.

He has become a hero to many on the right because of his relentless attacks on the Obama administration and his aggressive brand of constitutional conservatism. But liberals have likened the outspoken Houston Republican to the late Joe McCarthy, dubbed him the Senate’s “biggest loser” and, now point to the PolitiFact web site’s finding that he, well, often doesn’t tell the truth.

PolitiFact is a Pulitzer prize winning project that rates the claims of office-seekers and office-holders. Its Texas branch is headed up by the Austin American-Statesman’s Gardner Selby, one of the most respected political reporters in the state capital.

To assess Cruz’s accuracy rate, PolitiFact investigated 14 of the senator’s statements and found that he telling the truth 50 percent of the time.
