Proud to #standwithrand since 2009. GOP, we need more courage like this! You know it is not at all surprising that Palin is so quick to jump on the #standwithrand bandwagon, though it puts her in direct conflict with the guy that chose her for his VP in 2008:
— Sarah Palin (@SarahPalinUSA) March 7, 2013
“I don’t think that what happened yesterday is helpful to the American people,” McCain snarled from the floor of the Senate.
"The country needs more senators who care about liberty, but if Mr. Paul wants to be taken seriously he needs to do more than pull political stunts that fire up impressionable libertarian kids in their college dorms. He needs to know what he’s talking about,” he added.
“To allege that … our government would drop a drone hellfire missile on Jane Fonda,” he said, “that brings the conversation from a serious discussion about U.S. policy to the realm of the ridiculous.”
So much for getting invited to the McCain house for next year's Thanksgiving Day feast, huh Sarah?
Personally I am a little surprised at how many so-called progressives are willing to pat Rand on the back for his egotistical display. I am all in favor of the idea of filibusters being conducted the old fashioned way, with the Senators having to actually be on the floor to hold the Senate hostage, but let's not forget that Rand was doing this to delay the vote to confirm the President's choice to head the CIA, John Brennan. A confirmation that has officially been finalized, now that the theatrics are over.
And I am not at all impressed that Rand Paul used his time in the filibuster to address drone strikes in America, a concept that I don't think was EVER really a concern. As evidenced by the Attorney General's response.
However I will give Rand Paul some credit for irritating Lindsey Graham so much that he responded with this:
“To my Republican colleagues, I don’t remember any of you coming down here suggesting that President Bush was going to kill anybody with a drone, do you?” Graham said. “They had a drone program back then, all of a sudden this drone program has gotten every Republican so spun up. What are we up to here?”
THAT is fucking gold, and almost makes Paul's attention seeking worth it.
Okay I didn't accidentally agree with Sarah Palin did I? Because that would suck!
I happened to pass by the tv in time to hear Graham say that, my jaw dropped to the floor
ReplyDeleteI know, it was like music to my ears...at least mcfuddled still has miss lindsey's support, as the 1/2 witted harridan, who he made famous with his careless selection, turns on him like the rabid bitch she is...I'm still enjoying the fact that her platform to screech from has been relegated to tweeting and a young peoples' social site...go have a sandwich, shrew.
DeleteSarah Palin also stands with her Pimp Husband who also sleeps with Male Prostitutes. What a 'GIRLY' Man. Sarah and Todd are the epitome XTIAN Family Values. Who else can claim that all of their Adult children had BABIES out of Wedlock and their Grandpa is a Pimp?
ReplyDeleteTweet to Sarah - Are you proud to stand with Todd the Pimp?
DeleteNot only do I not see any reason for him to get in front of the Senate and filibuster, but I can't see what his goal was in doing so. Am I missing something?
ReplyDeleteIt was supposed to delay the vote on Brennan, which took place anyway, and the guy was approved. So, the filibuster didn't accomplish anything in that department.
DeleteThe other thing that Paul ranted about were the drones. Holder got the last word in his short letter, "No." If the point of droning on and on in the Senate was to get a letter from Holder, I'd like to offer Rand Paul some advice. It's easier just to send the guy a letter, an email, a fax, make a telephone call, make an appointment and visit him in person-- all of which are more dignified than describing a drone taking out Jane Fonda, or his history lesson about Hitler.
Rand Paul is delivering a big "Fuck You" to the GOP from his bosses, the Kochs and friends. Its intent is let them know that Paul doesn't need the Party's support to keep his seat in KY, and to remind them that his bosses will be billionaires before and after the midterms and 2016 as well, and that they will be influencing elections that affect their businesses, whether it's with Mr McCain and Ms Graham or against them is something they might need to consider. In nicer terms, it was a shot across the bow. Palin's tweet was interesting, because she was told to tweet that to clarify where she stood, and it's. It with McCain. Sarah is not a player, she's a weather vane, spinning where the Libertarians tell her to point. And when to point. And which finger to point at McCain. That was the middle finger she used. I'm not surprised at that, because Koch money got Jeff Flake the other seat in AZ in November, and this might be a signal it's time for McCain to step down as gracefully (for health reasons) and let Brewer appoint Sarah. Maybe. The little triumvirate of McCain, Graham and Ayotte was all theater to show they could make noise, hold up the POTUS and then let him have his way. No one was going to go Into a death match in the cage over Hagel. It was all posturing. Koch bought Ayotte's seat as well, which makes me think that it's a minor squeeze more to Obama and to the GOP, not Graham and McCain personally, but Ayotte might've been Kochs little messenger girl to dance with the boys and then back off and tell them to do the same.
DeleteBut Rand Paul appeared to be saying that he didn't care if they "Let this muthafucka burn to the ground", speaking of the GOP. One other signal along those lines was DeMint giving up his Senate seat with 4 years left to Scott, and then went to Heritage Foundation, to get his cash incentive from the Kochs. So Kochs bought Demints seat, got him re-elected, then paid him to come to Heritage to sit on the bench and develop more talent and help them target more RINOs for Teabaggers to run against in primaries. Kochs are willing to run the ball when the team (GOP) is down 3 touchdowns with 4 minutes left in the game. McConnell and Boehner's leadership days are approaching a tunnel only open at one end.
Something up with the comment system? I don't know if this wil post or if prob is on my end. I guess we'll see. It's probably Obama's fault. He saw us complain a little about drones. I'm still iffy on the subject, because of the black eye it's giving us in Intl media. But if Obama has weighed the risks, I'll support him. I understand the filters from mass media, but there need to be outlets for a little more details on these FP issues.
BBB
You can bet that if drones could only kill Democrats, Rand Paul would have been home in bed asleep. Progressives have been complaining about this and the NDAA anti habeas corpus provisions for a year - and all it took was the violence-worshiping side of politics to figure that somehow THEY might be at risk, too.
ReplyDeleteDrones started under Bush. Why didn't they complain then?
ReplyDeleteI think Sarah's confused. Her star if David necklace must've tarnished or BIbi snubbed her scrawny ass after he realized he backed the wrong horse in 2012 POTUS race. So Sarah's going to be spiteful and go with the Kochs on the Libertarian side instead of the Neocons? Just in time for CPAC. Interesting.
ReplyDeleteIs Sarah's scalp had any hair on it and was worth a nickel, Karl Rove and a handful of HIS money guys would have her head on a stake just in time to bury the Tea Party at the same time.
Now this was interesting. I'm actually on the same side as Sarah, but she's shaping for her NEW NEW bestest friends. She won't even be cannon fodder affter next yrs mid-terms.
Boys and girls, a spanking is coming your way. This is not the way I wanted to see the CIA and the rest of the military-industrial-complex forced to be accountable. And I don't think the Kochs are bringing enough ass to this fight to really kick some serious ass. But this sure will put a LOT of pressure on the GOP to move to the right to get any concessions. Because the Tea Party really isn't a party, and has never win nor lost any elections. It's just a wedge that Kochs and the BBC*** are using to break some of the biggest assholes in the GOP and replace them with the BBC's own assholes that they can control more than the Bush Dynasty and the Neocons.
Unless Satah has been promised unlimited support for McCain's seat, she's got a nice payday coming to try to sway some votes in a couple of GOP primaries. For entertainment value and so dhe'll lose those last couple of dozen hairs on her head, I hope so so so much she has her eyes on his seat.
Sarah shish-ka-bob sounds a little dry and chewy. More like shoe leather than kobe. Maybe it will smolder and keep the skeeter from ankle biting.
*** BBC = Billionaire Boys Club
My sister is hyperventilating over these drones, and Obama 'stockpiling hollow ammunition to turn the government on all of us!" Oh, and "You must be so proud. I wouldn't be surprised if he signs an executive order declaring himslef King." Oh my, they are in a state over there in lala land.
ReplyDeleteOf course, she is still certain that the President KNEW and watched the 4 Americans being killed in Benghazi, and then he hopped on his jet for Las Vegas to 'campaign because that's all he does.' I hate to stop reading after while...she had every GOP talking point down pat.
Wonder how she handled Graham's take on Rand Paul's stunt. I heard on MSNBC today that several of the Senators who dined with the President were quite angry at Boehner and McConnell, who never told them about the concessions Obama tried to make. They had no idea there even were any, because in GOP Leaderland, they refuse to tell anyone the truth about anything. Poor dears. their world is crumbling, and all due tot heir own stupidity.
I am sickened by this jerk, simply a major jerk. On another note....I am astonished at the news of Obama having dinner with those idiots has changed the tides!!! OMG...did anyone notice how many times these guys admit they had no idea what Obama was proposing?
ReplyDeleteHaving concrete knowledge on how their leadership has been lying to them...and the media mean anything? I am astounded at the sheer laziness of those senators, WTF...what are they doing all day? Then they blame Obama for not doing this sooner????
The fact he would rather be with his family (in his rare spare time) than kissing their lazy asses, all they want is attention. These senators should all be ashamed of themselves for being so pathetic being lead by the nose by their lying leaders. Boehner and McConnell should be impeached. The more I hear, the more furious I get..sigh. How could Obama possibly eat lunch across from Ryan...I think I would vomit.
shhhhh...
DeleteHe was feeding them the Koolade. You know, the koooolaaaade... : )
Our POTUS is not naive on the matter, and he's not groveling. He might play a hand or two of junk cards just to sandbag a little to give Ryan and pals some time to preen and play tough guy, but Mr Obama is shrewd, but at the same time he has the confidence to play hard but not let a desire for vengeance alter his focus.
DeleteHe'll help those on the other side win some chits an show them respect, but he won't be bullied. They will try, but so many of these deals are already done by the time the committees meet. If it can't get out if committee, it doesn't go to the floor and so on. Those guys are trying to elevate themselves in their party's eyes plus in the eyes of their constituents. Obama could actually be a very good friend to have by some of The RINOS, because, if the truth be known, Obama is part RINO, part blue dog democrat, and part moderate democrat. Probably right in the middle of W on the Right and Clinton on the Left. But not a lot of room between them overall. On some issues, there's more distance, others they are carbon copies. I get the sense that there will be some new coalitions formed going into the 014 midterms. I'd rather the RINOS move left and hunker down, but if 2014 is a bloodbath for incumbents losi g primaries to the baggers, the Dems might pick up a couple of defectors. Obama's got good approval numbers. We'll see. Glad I'm on this side of the fence. The neocons chased me out when they orchestrated the Iraq debacle needlessly in 03.
The pod people at the pond are raking McCain over the coals. They are saying he has to go and has outlived his usefulness. I hope they keep it up and piss McCain off enough so that he spills what he knows.
ReplyDeleteScorpie
I can't believe some so-called "progressives" fell for his RANDstanding.
ReplyDeleteProgressives didn't fall for anything. The fact is that every time the federal government gives itself new powers of arrest, detention, tracking, etc of American citizens it's only a matter of time before those powers are in the hands of the Right-wing - and who will they be using those powers against?
DeleteNight after night in 2011 I sat up and watched Americans being clubbed and gassed and sprayed and deafened. As if that wasn't enough, the government gave itself the power to jail them for a year - for being in the (indeterminate) wrong place. And their big crime was ....?
...give it some time, people still know the name paris hilton, but have no idea why..
ReplyDeleteThere is absolutely NOTHING that could be deemed 'courageous' by this piss ant grandstanding that Randy did. It was just a naked publicity grab for his delusional 2016 plans for a presidential run.
ReplyDeleteThere was NOTHING accomplished, Brennan was still confirmed, Lindsay flipped his vote as spite to Rand Paul, which shows you what a fucking game it is that these assholes are playing with American lives and livelihoods.
There was NO ONE that ever believed that President Obama would kill Americans on American soil, that was just a big emotional wrench that they threw in to get their base all riled up.
There was no value in this other than the way the media sucked it right up and ran with it. No surprise to see Sarah jump on that bandwagon, since she ALWAYS goes to where there's a crowd and then claims that she is the one that drew the crowd.
Rand Paul is a little pipsqueak. He's full of himself and his perceived power and if he thinks for one second that he will ever be president, he's living in lala land. It ain't ever gonna happen. All he just did is waste a massive amount of taxpayer money, which will come out down the road, to get a whole lot of attention from the DC beltway media. There is nothing courageous about that, that's just more narcissistic behavior, which OF COURSE Sarah applauds, since she's the Queen of Narcissism.
It was a pathetic, contrived, remedial, SHAMEFUL act that did nothing but reveal more insanity of the GOP and Rand Paul in particular. Apple doesn't fall far from the tree...
Exactly!!!
DeleteJohn Brennan is bad news and it is to Obama's everlasting shame that he nominated this right-wing creep. Brennan was a Bush minion at the CIA during the Bush administration. He supported "enhanced interrogation techniques" and rendition. While I loathe Rand Paul, I am glad he filibustered this nomination. Paul was protesting the Obama administration's reprehensible drone program and its claim to have authority to kill American citizens with it, with no judicial oversight. Imagine how you would react to such a claim if it were the Bush administration making it, Gryphen. And it well could be one day, since Obama is setting the precedent. It's unconscionable and it's unconscionable for Obama to nominate a disgrace like Brennan to head the CIA - it's not the first time either. Obama nominated him before but there was so much outcry that Brennan withdrew his name. Now I guess Obama figured he could get away with it - and he has. And Rand Paul only did what DEMOCRATIC senators should have done, but failed to do, and continue to fail to do to protect this country from Obama's unconstitutional power grab.
ReplyDeleteYou don't know what you're talking about! You're a troll who reads right wing bs and puts it here to convince us but some of us are aware of the facts.
DeleteBrennan is not in favor of torture & is an excellent pick. Go read from somewhere besides right wing sites.
Paul is a phony in so many ways and his grandstanding fillibuster was a free publicity stunt but backfired on him as people heard his hysterical bs live on TV for hours. Shining a light on themselves is just how the right wing nuts went under their rocks the last time in the McCarthy era. They're doing it again.
I have to say, every time I hear Rand Paul's monotone boring voice drone on and on, I find myself yawning, getting sleepy and finally dozing off.
ReplyDeleteWhy You Shouldn't #StandWithRand
ReplyDeleteRand Paul scored a big win yesterday, but not against President Obama.
Yesterday's losers included Senator Mitch McConnell and Senator Marco Rubio - and all the other Republican senators Paul bent to his will.
Paul's filibuster ostensibly dealt only with a very remote hypothetical contingency: targeted killings on American soil of Americans who present no imminent threat to national security. Paul insisted that all the harder questions be taken off the table. He had (he said) no issue with a targeted killing on American soil of an American who did present an imminent threat. He avoided the issue of the targeted killings of Americans outside the United States - i.e., the actual real-world problem at hand.
Instead, Paul invoked a nightmare out of a dystopian future: an evil future president shooting a missile at an American having coffee in a neighborhood cafe, merely on suspicion, without any due process of law.
I think we can all agree that such a case would be pretty deplorable. It is also far-fetched.
http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2013/03/07/why-you-shouldn-t-standwithrand.html
I get the feeling that the politicians protesting the drones the loudest are the ones most likely to use them against non-enemy combatants, if they had the chance.
ReplyDeleteSarah Palin doesn't know anything about the issue or what Rand was doing. It's just another one of her knee jerk reactions to something she perceived as anti-Obama. Ask her about drones, and she'd say something like "in what respect?"
ReplyDeleteSlightly o/t -- if I remember correctly, Rand Paul is an opthamologist who was "board-certified" by the American Board of Opthamology once. Such certification demonstrates that a physician has mastered his speciality, and has undergone rigorous testing.
ReplyDeleteWhen it came time for Paul to be re-certified, he decided he didn't want to go before his peers to be tested. Instead, he decided to start his OWN "National" Board of Opthamology. Eureka! He passed its test. I recall that he and his wife are two of the directors of this outfit, and its headquarters are a mailbox in his home town.
I can't stand to look at this "doctor" and not think about what a cheating liar he is. If he can squirm around the standards of his profession, then he's capable of any kind of bare-faced maneuver imaginable.
Sorry, meant "opthalmology" with an "l" in the middle. Spelling was never my strong suit, which is why I don't profess to have passed the test of the American Board of Spellology."
ReplyDeleteSometimes, when I'm feeling shackled by the strictures of the ABS, I just make up spellings of my own. I always pass my own spelling tests.
Actually, it's ophthalmology. Most people forget the 'h'.
DeletePaul: 'Seriously' weighing 2016 bid
ReplyDeletehttp://www.politico.com/story/2013/03/rand-paul-seriously-weighing-2016-bid-88611.html
Nothing got the GOP riled when Bush was president, not even the fact there were no weapons of mass destruction.
ReplyDeleteDidn't know where to post this G, so sorry for being off topic, but man, can you believe this???
ReplyDeleteParents Attempt To Force Surrogate To Have Abortion – Surrogate Defends Right To Give Birth
How far does the right to choose extend? What rights do parents have in a surrogacy case where the mother doesn’t want to give them the child? What rights does the surrogate mother have? All of that and more has come into play in a one-of-a-kind case involving a mother, a child with severe birth defects and parents that wanted an abortion.
However, when mid-term ultrasounds rolled around, things rapidly took a turn for the worst. The fetus, 21 weeks along at this point, had a cleft lip and palate, severe heart problems and a cyst present in her still-developing brain. Doctors recommended that the pregnancy be terminated immediately, as the defects — especially in the heart — would decrease the chances of survival much longer than birth to 25%. They offered her a procedure called an “amniocentesis,” which entails taking a sample of amniotic fluid, which contains fetal tissues, and using that sample to determine genetic problems or abnormalities. While Kelley was interested in whatever might help the health conditions, the parents were uninterested.
The parents asked her to get an abortion as well. In fact, two of their three children had been born prematurely and with many associated health issues, and they wanted to have a better quality of life available for the next child they brought into the world. Kelley refused, and the genetic parents made an insane offer in return — $10,000 if she would get an abortion.

What a bizarre story. I can't think that poor child can expect anything but a horrific quality of life, but the entire fiasco is chilling.
Whoah! That *really* is fascinating!
DeleteO/T but really fabulous!
ReplyDeleteThird Tribal Nation Embraces ‘Two-Spirit People’ And Passes Marriage Equality Statute
...The tribe will now recognize and perform same-sex marriages. Two tribes – the Coquille of Southern Oregon and the Suquamish of Washington State – have already passed similar measures. Those tribal decisions set off a concerted effort by the group Indigenous Ways of Knowing, who issued an LGBT equality toolkit last fall. “Tribal Equity Toolkit: Tribal Resolutions and Codes to Support Two Spirit and LGBT Justice in Indian Country,” is a legal guide which helps tribal leaders strengthen and promote equality. IWOK pledges to continue its work until all tribes recognize and perform marriages of Two-Spirit people.
In Native American tradition, sexuality was viewed differently than it was by the encroaching Europeans. Most tribes recognized different “kinds” of gender: the Navajo accepted 4 but other tribes had even more. The most common description is “two-spirit” – men with feminine tendencies or women with masculine ones. The Indians recognized that, for one to be in harmony with themselves and the world around them, they needed to be able to live with a balance of male and female.
http://www.addictinginfo.org/2013/03/07/third-tribal-nation-embraces-two-spirit-people-and-passes-marriage-equality-statute/
Two spirited people have been around since humans farted and burped.
DeleteBack in my village, in Alaska, such people are normal.
I'm 67 years old and as a child I remember two aunties who lived together for most of their lives. Mom taught me to call them aunties. "They are aunties who care about each other.
At the age of 9, my mom died and dad had to go to Anchorage. It was a sad thing. I remember the whole village visiting our house for a week.
The thought of my dad leaving was a horror inside of me. I remember that well. The night before dad was to leave the aunties showed up. They cooked us kids dinner. Cut and trimmed dads hair. Cleaned and trimmed up his suit.
The aunties knew what to do. They never had children of their own. They cared for everybodies children.
They are in the village graveyard. Buried together, since they died within 3 days of each other.
No one spoke unkindly of the aunties. Except the Christian teacher who quit half way thru the school year.
What a lovely story 7:50am. Thanks for sharing it.
DeleteBeautiful story 7:50am. What disturbed the harmony within many native cultures was the dreaded christian missionary forcing the christian religion down the throats of indigenous people who were just fine living with their own spiritual guidance. 100% of the time the native populations had the right idea and christianity spoiled the whole thing.
DeleteI just don't get how anybody who is properly aligned with the facts can come to any other conclusion but to accept that this filibuster was a complete joke.
ReplyDeleteRand Paul had the answers to the questions he asked before he even started this filibuster.
http://www.paul.senate.gov/files/documents/BrennanHolderResponse.pdf http://www.paul.senate.gov/files/documents/BrennanPaul.pdf
Both those letter provide a pretty clear interpretation of the administration's policy towards drone strikes against American citizens inside the United States. I don't know if they were just too complicated for Senator Paul to understand, but frankly I'm disappointed in the people of this sub for being so quick to jump on the filibuster bandwagon without properly assessing what the facts are.
Not to disparage anybody, but don't be so quick to think that Obama wants to drone people sitting in the middle of a cafe, which is what Paul explicitly suggests.
The administration was more than forthcoming with their response than Senator Paul would have you believe. Its just pure political grandstanding.
http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2013/mar/07/rand-paul/sen-rand-paul-says-obama-advocating-drone-strike-p/
palin and Paul, the twat and the twit.Perfect together.
ReplyDeleteWhat's the difference between the drone program under Bush and now under Obama?
ReplyDeleteObama actually is using the drone program successfully.
And that's why so many GOP'ers have their panties in a wad over it.
Nobody who is seriously thinking about running for POTUS would want this albatross putting the "curse" on their campaign. Besides Old McCain will have to wear this old bird till the day he dies, and then on into his ruined legacy.
ReplyDeleteIt Turns Out Rand Paul’s Filibuster Was a Pre-Planned Scam for Cash
ReplyDeleteIt turns out Rand Paul’s filibuster was big scam. Sen. Paul has wasted little time implementing the second part of his planned filibuster. He is now trying to cash in with a fundraising letter.
The true story behind Rand Paul’s filibuster is starting to come out. According to the National Journal, Mitch McConnell and Senate Republicans knew the filibuster was coming, “But the day wasn’t entirely unplanned. Paul, often accused of being a lone wolf on Capitol Hill, had laid some of the groundwork to win over the GOP establishment. McConnell and Co. knew the filibuster was coming, even if they did not know when precisely or what exactly it would look like.”
This fact contradicts the myth that Paul floated that he decided to come to the Senate floor and start speaking. Sen. Paul has been suggesting that everybody just showed up, “We probably had 15 congressmen come over to the Senate floor,” he said this morning in a radio interview with Glenn Beck. Paul pointed out that House members are allowed to come to the Senate floor but are barred from speaking or coming forward, so they were presumably there just to lend support with their presence. “I’ve never seen that happen before. And they came spontaneously. Nobody called them. They just showed up.”
Sen. Paul’s claims of spontaneity are dubious at best. Now we have come to learn that Paul is trying to cash in on his planned stunt.
Paul sent out this fundraising letter,
