Massachusetts State Police released a video showing some of the final moments of the capture of Boston bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev on Friday, using thermal imaging cameras, robotics and flash bang grenades.
If you are like me you have had a lot of questions about this arrest, and have heard a lot of misinformation.
This does not answer ALL of the questions, but it answers some of them.

ReplyDeleteIt started right on schedule early Saturday morning. The second guessing and the criticism over the choices made by local, state, and federal law enforcement Friday morning regarding the pursuit of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. Should the city of Boston and many of its western suburbs have been locked down for the entirety of a working day?
The carping is taking two forms, the first emerging from the conspiracy wings of both right and left. It was a demonstration by (pick one) Homeland Security, the Obama administration, the military, or just “them” to prove they could easily shut down a major American city and/or make the “sheeple” follow any order that entity might chose to give. That one is easily dismissed although the rest of us are likely to spend too much time trying to do instead of merely rolling our eyes and saying, “There you go again.”
The second will undoubtedly take hold and do a lot to undermine the gratitude and good will we saw demonstrated on the streets of Watertown and Boston after it was all over. Was the lockdown overkill, a terrible misuse of resources, an abuse of power?
Remember how the GOP responded to the killing of Osama bin Laden - silence. The GOP merrily went to war over what Osama bin Laden did but could not give any credit to the Obama Administration for finally getting "their man." This is the equivalent. Don't give any credit to the Obama Administration for handling a dangerous situation well and for protecting the people of an American city.
DeleteHave these folks simply forgotten the mayhem caused by these two young men just a week ago? Locking down the city for less than 24 hours meant that the brothers could not skip town in a car, a bus, a train or a plane. The capture of the younger brother alive means that there may be some answers forthcoming to the many questions about why, who else, and why, why, why.
I have completely given up on understanding why conservatives and the GOP hate this country so much.

I still have a lot of questions, now they're reporting he's able to answer questions using pencil and paper, part of me really hopes he survives and is helpful so we can learn more. Where does all this hate and rage come from? I have a son close to his age and can't imagine him in a situation like this.

DeleteEveryone predicted suspect #1 was trouble. He was on the FBI watch list and was interviewed in 2011. He then traveled to Russia for 6 months but that was okay because he was deemed "not a problem" by the FBI.
ReplyDeleteThe FBI had files on suspect #1 with pictures, but reportedly could not identify the people in the videos. The mother claims the FBI was working with Suspect #2 as an informant for YEARS.
Hard to know what to believe anymore.

DeleteI hope people do their research and realize this entire thing was set up by our very own government. Why is there video of police arresting the older brother? Stripped him down naked and put him in a cop car. And then somehow later he was killed in a shootout? It's all lies.

DeleteThe federal charge against the younger brother has been announced this afternoon (NPR and the New York Times) and he will be tried by a jury of his peers, as required by the US Constitution. I am sure that the people of Massachusetts are relieved that the young man was captured alive and will stand trial. They deserve that for the heinous events that marred their Patriots Day.
ReplyDeleteMost of us have realized that the GOP would try to obstruct justice as much as possible and as soon as possible. And, of course, Lindsay Graham and John McCain and other obliged as early as Friday afternoon as the final events were unfolding in Watertown. Their disdain for the Constitution and for the American judicial system knows no bounds. I'm all for simply ignoring them and all of their rants.
