Florida police sergeant fired for using Trayvon Martin targets during weapons training.

Courtesy of Action News:

Officials with Port Canaveral said a police sergeant has been fired after he brought Trayvon Martin shooting targets to a firearms training session.

Sergeant Ron King was terminated from the police department on Friday, according to officials.

Port officials said King brought two shooting targets which had an images resembling Trayvon Martin on them to a firearms training session on April 4.

King was supervising the training session and asked if anyone wanted to use them. Officials will not say if the targets were actually used.

"Whether his act was hatred or stupidity, none is tolerable," said John Walsh, CEO of Port Canaveral.

Now the fired sergeant is fighting back by posting a video saying that he brought the targets to the  firing range as an example of what "not to shoot at."

Oh and he also apologized to Trayvon Martin's family for "being used as a pawn in somebody's political agenda."

Uh huh! Yeah I am having a hard time buying this one. I cannot even believe that somebody manufactured these things, much less deciding it was a good idea to support the creators by purchasing them.

I think the CEO probably made the right call here. What do you guys think?

He might as well have worn his white sheets and hood to the target range.
He's "sorry." Sorry he got caught out in a flagrant act of racism.

Sounds like the captain of the Costa Concordia saying....

"I tripped and fell into the lifeboat".

    What a bunch of bullshit.

I don't care if he has 25 yrs or 50 yrs of experience, he fucked up here. The target wore a hoodie, no big deal, but was carrying Skittles and ice tea. Tremendously poor judgement and inappropriate and racist, and awful. Oh, and the SP crosshairs!

I watched '42' yesterday. The movie is reminder of how ugly racism is and it seems racism in this country hasn't change since then. It's been hidden but thanks to Sarah Palin, John McCain & the Republican party, it has been resurfaced.

Let's see they were only available at two gun shops in Florida and sold out online form the company that sold them within days. If he were going to use them as an example of what not to shoot a why not use ones that police regularly use during training that are of hostages, elderly people and children. I'll buy his excuse right after I buy some ocean frontage in North Dakota and that happening anytime in this lifetime.

I am glad he lost his job, but I am sure his racist instincts are still intact. Perhaps Faux will interview him....

Tactical Response CEO James Yeager: I Got My Gun Permit Back

Tactical Response CEO James Yeager -- whose handgun carry permit was suspended after he threatened to "start killing people" if President Obama took executive action on guns -- has his gun license back, WBBJ-TV reported Friday.

The state of Tennessee suspended Yeager's permit in January after a video of Yeager railing against new gun control measures went viral. "I am not letting my country be ruled by a dictator. I'm not letting anybody take my guns. If it goes one inch further, I'm gonna start killing people," Yeager said in the video.

This just breaks my heart. How could anybody be so insensitive - deliberately insensitive!!! - I see that "target" as the target of innocence - because of one's man's authority "authority" to target him because....he was a volunteer neighborhood watch man with a gun. And a trigger finger. And Trayvon fit the profile.

On a long drive home from NYC with two white male coworkers the conversation turned political. I said well, you guys are becoming a minority. And one replied yea the deck is stacked against me. I just had to laugh and say (i.e. Jack Nickelson in A Few Good Men)... You can't imagine what it's like to have the deck stacked against you. I'm white but a woman I said, and I know exactly how it feels to be discriminated against!! Hell the guy I was talking to has very subtly treated me as an other in our male dominated industry!!

So what I'm getting at is this behavior is almost unconscious because these white guys have NEVER in their WHOLE LIVES known what if feels like to be on the other side. NEVER!! So they are incapable of any empathy toward those that they see as weak or takers. It's ingrained.

Gryph, I'm not trying to paint all white American males with the same brush because obviously you and many men are the exception. Unfortunately, it seems that many, many white men in this country, especially those who grew up in secure surroundings where they never had to worry about food or shelter, feel they are superior to others. It seems like the police force attracts a majority of this type of psyche.

And of course the most insecure ones will call me a Femi-Nazi, go right ahead, I just call it like I see it. Walk a DAY in Trayvon's father's shoes and find out what it's like to have your child gunned down right in your own neighborhood for NOTHING! AND not get ANY justice. I'm losing faith in our democracy...

OK rant over. Thanks for providing an outlet for these ruminations.

I hope people walked out of the training after sighting the hoodie target. I may have feared the officer who chose these targets. The BS lying denial is another red flag the officer has sick and twisted behavior.

Who printed the targets? Fire them too.

Can you imagine the outrage on the right - if someone were to bring Sarah Palin targets, or Ronald Reagan targets?

...which, by the way, WOULD be as wrong as Trayvon Martin targets.

Yes, it was right to fire the jerk that brought them.
Anyone in any job should be fired for doing outrageous and hateful things.
