The fact that Senator Max Baucus is not seeking reelection has the NRA very, very nervous.

Courtesy of The Plum Line:

Does the defeat of Toomey-Manchin mean the gun debate has been settled? The National Rifle Association doesn’t think so.

In a sign of more to come, I’m told that the NRA ran this ad in Montana newspapers defending a Democrat, i.e., Max Baucus, who voted against Manchin-Toomey, and urging Montanans to call Baucus’ office and thank him for his vote:

This is noteworthy, beyond the fact that the NRA — which usually reserves most of its firepower for use on behalf of Republicans — is aggressively propping up a Democrat. It suggests the NRA may still believe Baucus is gettable as a vote for Manchin-Toomey. Buzzfeed’s Ben Smith yesterday laid out an unlikely but possible scenario in which Baucus, who is retiring, gets won over after sustained pressure and flips a few red state Dems and even a Republican or two with him. As Smith puts it, “he has nothing to lose.”

There are lot of people, most notably Democrats, who believe that this gun debate is all but over.

However it is worth noting that the NRA thinks no such thing.

I hope Baucus DOES give the NRA the middle finger, and that he announces it early so that some other fence sitters get the message, and put the safety of our children ahead of their desire to remain in the Senate indefinitely.

What good is it to have a Senator who is supposed to represent you when all they think about is their nest reelection?

The PCCC is described in that ridiculous ad as an "anti-farming, anti-hunting, anti-energy group"

I might accept that they are anti-hunting, but how are they "anti-farming" and "anti-energy?" Does the PCCC not want any more farming? No. Do they not want energy? No. But, all the nimrods out there will read that and immediately plant it in their feeble, clouded minds.

And, this thing about private sales is mind-boggling. Any jackass can sell a gun privately to a child molester, wife-beater, psychopath and that's a-ok with the NRA (and a bunch of elected officials). Then, when that child molester, wife-beater, psychopath shoots someone, the NRA will tell you guns don't kill people, people kill people.

It sounds like a no-brainer that if you are going to make businesses do background checks, you should also make private sellers to background checks because it's about who will be in possession of the deadly weapon. Unfortunately, the real "no brainers" don't quite get this.

At this point, the only verified child molester, wife-beater, psychopaths with guns will be those who steal them or buy them from some dude on Craig's list, etc. <------- exaggeration to make a point, because many child molester, wife-beater, psychopaths, never get caught or reported.

Baucus just may be planning something big, something that makes the NRA shit in their pants like their unofficial spokesman, Ted Nugent.

The NRA, the new Mafia. Organized crime at it's best.

Baucus is only looking for who will give him the fattest paycheck when he leaves office.
What does he care whether his votes represent his constituency, or his heart,
Only his paycheck cares one whit.
The masses put him in office, but it's the $3,000 suits and alligator shoes that he's most comfortable with now. He'll never have to appear in MT again.

I love the piling on... anti freedom...anti farming...anti energy.

Why is it that only gun owners are "law abiding"? Are they more "law abiding" than the kids in Newtown and any other gun violence victim?

It's far from over, and their paranoid fear proves it.
