NRA asks vendor to take down "zombie" target designed to bleed when you shoot them, because it looks suspiciously like the President of the United States.

Courtesy of Buzzfeed:

The National Rifle Association has asked a vendor at its convention to remove a target that resembles Obama from its booth, a worker told BuzzFeed.

The company, Zombie Industries, sells a range of three-dimensional "life sized" targets that "bleed when you shoot them." The Obama likeness has been on display for two days, but was notably absent on Sunday.

"Someone from the NRA came by and asked us to remove it" a Zombie Industries booth worker told BuzzFeed in hushed tones. "They thought it looked too much like President Obama."

When asked if the Obama likeness was intentional the worker said, "Let's just say I gave my Republican father one for Christmas."

"They are just scared some liberal reporter will come by and start bitching" another booth worker said to men gathered around the booth. "But ya know, he does look very familiar."

The model, named "Rocky" is still available for purchase at the booth but is hidden from sight, leaving a gap among the targets on display which range from Osama bin Laden to a Nazi soldier.

Personally I am surprised that the NRA even bothered to have this taken down. After all the fact that they are fomenting another civil war and encouraging people to take up arms against any new federal regulations that might limit gun ownership has been fairly well reported.

I am deeply disturbed, by the way that any company would sell targets that bleed. Is that to prepare murderers for the sight of blood?

But I thought all these gun nuts were hunters and they needed to hunt ANIMALS for food, and such? Human targets? WTF?

Suuurrrre, people don't kill people, guns do, oh, except for the douchebags that practice on HUMAN TARGETS THAT BLEED!

These gun folks are just sicker than sick and make me so proud to neither own a gun nor have ever shot one. I could not imagine being part of this segment of society.

    1. Nope. Hunting is not the primary reason to own weapons any more, according to the NRA. Gotta have multiple guns to be ready for the waves and waves of bad guys coming to take your guns away, the bad guys coming to take your stuff away, and the bad guys coming to take your children away.

This green model is the "zombie" version. Another item the company offers is a black-skinned model with the same facial features as this green one.

At least someone in the company had the brains not to bring that one to the NRA convention.

Horrific that a company would manufacture these disgusting items and that people would actually buy them.

While I do not agree with these particular targets, the blood is unnecessary and revolting, I do believe people kill people not the gun itself. With all the background checks and everything else it takes to purchase a gun, it still unfortunately does not keep guns from getting into the wrong hands. People kill people with cars, knives, their own hands, and now even pressure cookers. It is the people that commit the crime in all murders, not the object they choose to use.
Since a large portion of people who commit these murders obtain their guns illegally, even stricter laws will not solve this problem. I believe in owning a gun because let's face it, there are a bunch of horrible people in this world.

So, there are car, knife, and pressure cooker clubs that celebrate their purpose with human bleeding targets I suppose. I guess these just don't get the media coverage they deserve.

    4. What utter nonsense. No law passed has ever stopped murder, so we should just not have any laws regarding murder, right?

The fact is that laws do work over time. Drunk driving is a good example. Do drunks still drive? Yes. Do drunks still ignore the penalties and drive without insurance, etc.? Yes.

And yet, drunk driving carries a stigma that it did not as recently as the 70s. Drunk driving deaths have dropped greatly. Why? Because a large number of people do think twice.

Maybe if some parents thought twice about punishments for letting their stupid guns fall into the hands of their children to kill other children, those deaths at least would be eliminated.

    5. Anonymous3:09 PM

1:28...ummm..well the mentally unstable man who shot the kindergarten class did try to purchase a gun and did not because he didn't want to do the background check. So the laws did work because he would have never passed the background check and he knew this. His mother did purchase her guns legally and unfortunately trained mentally ill child to use them. I think we should pass a law that requires people to go through background checks to become parents.

What is your plan for reducing the access of mentally unstable people to rapid fire high capacity firearms?

      Delete
    9. Anonymous3:55 PM

@3:29 I never said that there shouldn't be laws pertaining to firearms or anything else, we of course need laws. I am arguing the fact that the guns themselves are not the issue. The laws are already in place and I do not believe a stricter gun law would solve much. I think we need to focus more on the people commiting these crimes, the mentally ill for example. I never said I agree with rapid firearms but I am tired of the whole "Guns kill" ....... people using the guns kill!

You say "The laws are already in place"

      You are seriously misinformed.

You say "people using the guns kill". You are right. And mentally unstable people with rapid fire high capacity firearms kill people. You may have noticed we have a very low rate of people killing with atomic bombs. That's because we regulate who has access to atomic bombs. Maybe, just maybe, we could regulate other weapons. How about restricting some weapons to law enforcement and a "well regulated militia"?

See it's really easy to offer solutions that can be debated. But whining "I do not believe a stricter gun law would solve much" is NOT a solution, it's hiding in your fantasy world.

Also, you must plan to accompany those kids of yours 24 hours 365-6 days a year with that gun. Because you may have noticed that nuts with guns are not just invading homes.

Ok I have to chime in Miss Kumbaya, unfortunately we dont live in a pristine world where criminals and the mentally deranged abide by every fucking law laid down by the federal government. we live in a society plagued with the moraly bankrupt. no we do not need to hold our children's hands and guard them with an AK 47, but if while in the privacy of my own home some piece of trash breaks into my house and attempt to rape my wife or harm my children I will shoot that piece of trash. in the history of this world there has never been a criminal that has ever followed a law. yes there are many laws on the books right now preventing criminals and/or felons from purchasing guns but when you have a delinquent and derelict attorney general that was appointed by Mr Barack Obama that can only find it in his heart to prosecute 41 out of 44000 criminals that attempted to illegally purchase a weapon in this country what makes you think that anymore gun regulations or laws on the books will be followed through with prosecution. but then again I guess I don't need a gun to protect my wife because as you liberals say there's always abortion.

on the same note more than 20 children were masacred in China by a man wielding a knife, and four airplanes were taken down with box cutters, where over 2500 people were killed. bottom line is by nature man is very industrious and will by any means necessary if provoked or just batshit crazy, will find a means by which to inflict as much harm and damage as physically possible weather its with a gun a knife a machete or a bow and arrow.

      Nefer,
oh okay I got it I guess we should just wait until all the criminals feel really really bad that people might think that they're bad people so that they won't shoot us or families. that's the answer why didn't the federal government come up with that long ago make the criminal Phil absolutely horrible and give them a complex about being a bad person. that's all they need is a stigma.
THAT MY FRIEND IS UTTER NONSENSE!
oh and by the way I thought it wasn't the parents fault it was the guns fault, and I thought the kids had a mental disability that's why we needed to throw tens of millions of dollars at their disability so that they wouldn't pick up guns. So how the hell is a it parents fault.

so I'm going to sit right here and hope that nobody comes after my family and wait for time to pass in order for the laws to function as they should. in the meantime I'll hold hands with you and miss kumbaya at your house and we'll sing happy songs and hold candlelight vigils every time a maniac goes into an unguarded and unarmed home and slaughters an entire family.

Background Checks Bill Would Get A 'Couple More Votes' Now: Harry Reid

Senate Democrats believe that they have several new votes in favor of a bill that would expand background checks for gun buyers, after weeks in which those who opposed the legislation faced strong political backlash at home.

The additional votes would still put the bill, a bipartisan compromise sponsored by Sens. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) and Pat Toomey (R-Pa.), shy of the 60 necessary for passage. And tellingly, no one boasting of growing support would reveal the names of those lawmakers ready to flip.

But the bullish talk from Democrats -- from leadership on down -- is yet another indication that the party feels good about the fallout from the failed gun vote and is increasingly eager to try again.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) prompted the latest round of legislative speculation during a sit down interview with The Las Vegas Review Journal this past weekend, a portion of which was provided to The Huffington Post.

"Joe Manchin called me yesterday," Reid said. "He thinks he has a couple more votes. The one senator, Republican Senator from New Hampshire [Kelly Ayotte], has been -- wham, man has she been hit hard. She's the only senator in the northeast to vote against background checks. She went from a hugely positive number in New Hampshire -- her negatives now outweigh her positives. She is being hit every place she goes. So we are going to pick up some more votes. I may be able to get another Democrat or two. That would get us up to 57. We may only need three additional Republicans. So we'll see."

Watch Clip Of Reid's Comments Above

Reid notably did not name names, and a follow-up request for comment to his office went unreturned. A source close to negotiations, however, echoed the majority leader's sentiment, saying that there were two senators who opposed Manchin-Toomey who would flip once minor, superficial changes were made to the bill.

Pro-gun activists are planning to march from Virginia into Washington, D.C., on July 4 as part of an open carry demonstration that could bring thousands of illegally displayed weapons into the nation's capital.

The event, coordinated by libertarian radio host Adam Kokesh and advertised as an "Open Carry March on Washington," is hoping to bring upward of 10,000 demonstrators ready to say "in the SUBTLEST way possible that we would rather die on our feet than live on our knees."

The subtlety will apparently be exhibited by breaking Washington, D.C., law, which does not issue any permits to carry firearms openly or in any other manner.

"We will march with rifles loaded & slung across our backs to put the government on notice that we will not be intimidated & cower in submission to tyranny," the event's description reads on Facebook. "This will be a non-violent event, unless the government chooses to make it violent. Should we meet physical resistance, we will peacefully turn back, having shown that free people are not welcome in Washington, & returning with the resolve that the politicians, bureaucrats, & enforcers of the federal government will not be welcome in the land of the free."

While an earlier version of the event's listing described it as an "act of civil disobedience, not a permitted event," according to an update on May 6, there will be "coordination with D.C. law enforcement prior to the event" now that the march has gained momentum.

"I will recommend that they do the best they can to honor their oaths and escort us on our route," Kokesh wrote on Facebook. "Failing to provide that commitment to safety, we will either be informed that we will only be allowed up to a certain point where we would be arrested."

Warning of a "remote chance" of violence, Kokesh said supporters must be prepared to "submit to arrest without resisting," if law enforcement attempts to shut down the event.

Over 1,000 people have so far RSVP'd to the event on Facebook. While Kokesh and supporters have been quick to defend the event as a completely peaceful demonstration, Salon's Alex Seitz-Wald reports that the former GOP congressional candidate "seems to have become increasingly radicalized" as he's taken his libertarian message to online radio. Seitz-Wald points to a recent tweet from Kokesh:

The latest group to promise an armed march on the White House, scheduled for July 4th, 2013, has blinked a few months early. ThinkProgress noted the promised march on Sunday, complete with warning that “this will be a non-violent event, unless the government chooses to make it violent,” and plans to “march across the Memorial Bridge, down Independence Avenue, around the Capitol, the Supreme Court, & the White House, then peacefully return to Virginia across the Memorial Bridge.”

In 2009, a similar march, dubbed the “Million Armed Militia Man March,” was announced via a YouTube video, which was quickly pulled. That protest, also promised for July 4th, never materialized (A few weeks ago, however, some armed protesters did show up to counter-protest a group of Indiana moms).

This year’s version started out tough and defiant-sounding (emphasis mine):

On the morning of July 4, 2013, Independence Day, we will muster at the National Cemetery & at noon we will step off to march across the Memorial Bridge, down Independence Avenue, around the Capitol, the Supreme Court, & the White House, then peacefully return to Virginia across the Memorial Bridge. This is an act of civil disobedience, not a permitted event. We will march with rifles loaded & slung across our backs to put the government on notice that we will not be intimidated & cower in submission to tyranny. We are marching to mark the high water mark of government & to turn the tide. This will be a non-violent event, unless the government chooses to make it violent. Should we meet physical resistance, we will peacefully turn back, having shown that free people are not welcome in Washington, & returning with the resolve that the politicians, bureaucrats, & enforcers of the federal government will not be welcome in the land of the free.

There’s a remote chance that there will be violence as there has been from government before, and I think it should be clear that if anyone involved in this event is approached respectfully by agents of the state, they will submit to arrest without resisting. We are truly saying in the SUBTLEST way possible that we would rather die on our feet than live on our knees.

TP and Salon noted that the event’s organizer, Adam Kokesh, also talks a big game on Twitter:

“It’s time to abolish the US federal government,” he tweeted yesterday. Today he tweeted this:

When the government comes to take your guns, you can shoot government agents, or submit to slavery.

    — Adam Kokesh (@adamkokesh) May 3, 2013

Shortly after ThinkProgress flagged the event, however, a much more cooperative-sounding fighting of the power materialized on the group’s Facebook page:

UPDATE 130506 Now that it’s undeniable that this is going to happen, allow me to make clear how. There will be coordination with DC law enforcement prior to the event. I will recommend that they do the best they can to honor their oaths and escort us on our route. Failing to provide that commitment to safety, we will either be informed that we will only be allowed up to a certain point where we would be arrested. If this is the case, we will approach that point as a group and if necessary, I will procede to volunteer myself to determine what their actual course of action with someone crossing the line will be at which point fellow marchers will have the choice of joining me one at a time in a peaceful, orderly manner, or turning back to the National Cemetery.

Yep, nothing puts the government on notice like checking with them beforehand, and throwing out a test-arrestee. By the time July 4th rolls around, it’ll be 5 guys with Nerf™ guns visiting the White House gift shop. Either that, or a whole bunch of guys in Virginia will be watching one guy in DC get pepper-sprayed.
