The traveling Vietnam Wall Memorial is on display in Buckeye.
It's a smaller version of the permanent Vietnam War Wall in Washington, but still features all the names of the service members who were killed or listed as missing in action during the Vietnam War.
"So I honor them I thank them, I love them, I'm proud to be the mother of a vet and there are no words to express the appreciation so many Americans feel for the United States military," said Sarah Palin, former Alaska governor, who made an appearance at the memorial.

For some reason they also let her speak, though I am not certain why?
I think at this point Palin is just looking for ANYPLACE where people will let her speak and then take pictures of her so that she can remain even vaguely relevant.

Update: By the way somebody mentioned earlier that Palin appears to now be a permanent resident of Arizona, and that may well be true.
I have heard of only ONE recent encounter with her in Wasilla, and that was while she was came up to the drive thru at her local Taco Bell and was told "Wow, you look just like Sarah Palin."
When Palin responded with "That's because I am Sarah Palin," the female employee said "My husband hates you."

My father served in Viet Nam and I resent this hare brained opportunist using this as a photo-op. On another note I handled the printing of the programs on a "Wall" event in my town a number of years ago. The primary sponsor & promoter was a local funeral home..I found it odd at the time. It gave the funeral home a venue to push their services. Being the oldest sibling in my family and responsible for handling the arrangements for both of my parents' funerals I had the opportunity to witness the vulture like tactics the industry uses when folks are at their most vulnerable.

Sarah Palin tried to bring her carnival sideshow to the annual Rolling Thunder Ride to the Wall Sunday but the bikers quickly put her in her place — “riding bitch” on the back of another woman’s Harley-Davidson.
Palin tried to turn an uninvited visit to the gathering of biker veterans and supporters into a photo op to kick off another of her bus tours but event organizers told her that she was welcome to ride on a bike in the event but did not let her speak or become part of the official program.
Many of the hundreds of thousands of bikers who gathered in the Pentagon’s north parking lot weren’t aware of Palin’s presence at the event and some of those who did weren’t happy about it.
“Tell the bitch to go home,” said “Duke” Cantwell, a grizzled Harley rider from Missouri. “She ain’t welcome here. What’s next? We gonna have Jane Fonda riding bitch on a Harley?”
Tom Lawson, a biker from Montana, said politicians like Palin shouldn’t try to use the annual ride that focuses on missing in action veterans for political opportunism.
“She’s not one of us,” Lawson said. “She’s just another loud-mouthed politician trying to cash in.”
Shirley Hamilton, a biker mother of a Iraq war vet, said Palin should take her sideshow elsewhere.
“This event is for people who honestly care about veterans who are prisoners or who remain missing,” Hamilton said. “Sarah Palin doesn’t care about anything but herself. She doesn’t belong here.”
Some, however, said Palin was welcome to ride but didn’t see any need for the media to focus on her visit.
“If she wants to ride then let her ride,” said Jerry Symington of Missouri. “As long as she keeps her mouth shut she’s as welcome as anyone.”
Anti-Palin sentiment also spilled over on Rolling Thunder’s Facebook page with some comparing Palin to Fonda a target of hate and scorn from Vietnam vets angered over her trip to Hanoi and defense of the enemy during that Southeast Asia conflict.
Rolling Thunder Security personnel also kept the press at bay, especially when they threatened to run amok among the motorcycles of participants. The Washington Post reported that one security staffer grabbed a newsman by the throat and pushed him away.
Palin first claimed she had been invited to participate in Rolling Thunder but event organizers said she had not been invited and would not be part of the program. A request form Palin’s organization to allow her gaudy bus to roll along the parade route was rejected.
Rolling Thunder legislative director Ted Shpak said he didn’t appreciate the way Palin came into the event.
“If she wanted to come on the ride she should have come in the back,” he said.
But Palin came long after the north parking lot was full of bikers who waited for four to five hours for their lines to start on the ride. Palin came in the front and rode on the back of one bike. Her husband Todd rode another bike with daughter Piper on the back and Bristol Palin rode with another biker.
Still, when the ride ended at the wall, Rolling Thunder staff kept Palin away from the stage and the spotlight. She was not allowed to speak.

Her appearance was clearly a media grab and exploited a lot of real people as props for her photo op. The woman and her family have no shame, no decency, no class, no patriotism.

This time while at Glen Beck’s “Restoring the Honor” gathering in Washington D.C. she decided to use her son’s bravery to cover over her lack of political experience. Sarah Palin the woman who has never hunted but lied about it, quit her job as Governor, engages in media brawls with Levi Johnston and can’t name political policies has raised a combat vet. Yes ladies and gentleman that is her only accomplishment in life.
While at the rally Palin said “say whatcha want about me but I raised a combat vet and you can’t take that away from me”. She also said “I am not here to speak as a politician but as a mother of a soldier” although I don’t know how she could speak as a politician because she quit that long ago. Her son Track Palin is a member of the Alaska National Guard and deployed with the 25th Infantry Division 1st Stryker Brigade to Iraq in 2008.
What irritates me is that Sarah is acting like she accomplished something monumental by raising a child who decided to join the Guard. Saying “I raised a combat vet” is like saying “I raised a cancer survivor” it has nothing to do with you however you try to take credit for it. I’m not sure how her saying that gets her any standing with the “tea party” that is filled with old conservative soldiers who actually fought for this country. I didn’t think I could be more disgusted with her but yet again I was wrong; who is she to try and gain an edge by riding off her son’s coattails. Is she really that desperate?
So Sarah Palin raised a weekend warrior who deployed to Iraq, a daughter who has unprotected sex and I won’t even touch on the exploitation of her mentally handicapped child. She, in my opinion, abuses the status of being a mother to try and further advance her lackluster political career and it is disgusting to watch. I successfully raised a house cat and taught it to poop in a box but you don’t see me bragging about it. It does go to show you that the Tea Party is full of people who can’t think for themselves and follow the words of the even more ignorant like sheep. This convention that Beck put on was supposedly to “restore America’s honor” but the only way that is possible is if the Tea Party falls on its sword.

OT The DNA test shows Ariel Castro is father of Amanda Berry's child. Ohio gives parental rights when the father establishes paternity. I'm sure a judge will terminate his rights, but it really shows how tough the law is for rape victims.
ReplyDeleteThe Judge won't terminate his rights very easily. There will have to be another person ready to take a parental role, AND he will have to neglect or abuse the child even after social services has attempted to provide services to the parent. That takes time. (no, raping a woman who then gets pregnant does not constitute child abuse of the conceived child). Some/many/most? judges might find ways to deny him any visitation - other judges wouldn't, but likely would make it very restricted. I can think of one judge who might even allow visitation until it goes badly. Parental rights are pretty strong.
DeleteOn the other hand, the only rights he, or anyone, has are the ones the Judge will follow unless and until an appellate court decides otherwise. That takes a lot of time.
I don't think most judges would allow him to be alone with a child - although I imagine, somewhere, there is an exception.

According to the book, The Rogue – Searching for the real Sarah Palin, Track was told to sign up because his past delinquent behaviors stemming from drug use and the bus incident to name a few and was a risk to Sarah's political reputation.
ReplyDeleteWhat about Willow? Was Willow removed from high school because of her Wild Child and Colony Girls gang leader reputation which was harming Sarah's image? Which leads one to believe the rumors that Bristol wasn't sent to her aunt's house for mono but maybe because she was an underage pregnant high school student and an embarrassment to Sarah Palin's political aspirations.
Joe McGinniss wrote about this in his book, The Rogue – Searching for the real Sarah Palin. See pages 113-114.
“Track was in pretty big trouble,” a friend of his tells me. “The school bus thing, theft issues, drugs, multiple stuff. Sarah was governor by then, and Track posed too much risk in terms of PR. So she and Todd sat him down and told him he was going to enlist. They said, ‘You’re gonna do this because you owe us. This is gonna look good for us and you’re gonna do it,’”
Sarah made it look even better by arranging the enlistment for September 11, the seventh anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon. On September 11, 2008, Track was deployed to Iraq, allowing Sarah to proclaim forever after that she was the proud mother of a combat vet. Some might see this as classic example of taking the lemon that life gives you and using it to make lemonade.
I talk to the state trooper who drove Sarah and Track to the enlistment office in Anchorage on September 11, 2007. “There was quite a bit of emotion in the back seat of that car,” he tells me, “but patriotism was not one of the emotions.”
Could all this be one of the reasons Sarah Palin moved away from her beloved Wasilla and Alaska to Arizona? To get away from the people who knows her and her family's history the best and to get a fresh political start somewhere where they don't know the Palin family's past?

A group of tea-party activists — the Tea Party Leadership Fund – is trying to draft Sarah Palin to run for Senate in 2014, when incumbent Alaska Democrat Mark Begich is up for reelction. But don’t expect Palin to take the bait.
In a statement, her adviser Tim Crawford throws cold water on the speculation. She appreciates the interest, but she doesn’t “support” the effort.
Governor Palin is grateful and honored by those Americans who support her and her beliefs. However, the draft Sarah Palin for Senate fundraising campaign initiated by the Tea Party Leadership Fund is not authorized, endorsed or supported by Governor Palin or SarahPAC.

Willow was taken out of high school in her sophomore year and never went back.
Piper missed a lot of school in 2008 and was sent away to live with her Heath grandparents.
Trig was sent away to live with his great aunt Heather.
Maybe that's why the Palin kids are uneducated. Always being sent away or taken out of school. But hey, Sarah is getting to visit a lot of America, gets to make speeches and gets her picture taken. That's what is important.
I don't know about Alaska but in the lower 48 if you give birth to a child then its your responsibility to raise them. You don't just keep passing them onto others.

She looks really bad. Very unhealthy. I read that she was at the Iron Dog contest and an older woman walked up to her and said "I can't believe an Alaskan woman would be so unkept!" OT Have any of Y'All been watching VEEP on HBO? Season one the VP character was sort of a cross between Gov. Nicky Haley and the half-assed part time Gov of Alaaaaska, but this season that have really Palinized Selena. Except, this VP is prettier, smarter, more talented, and much more appropriately dressed than the "real" Sarah could ever be. They are roasting Palin like a pig on a spit or an unpardoned Thanksgiving Turkey losing its head. (See season 2, episode 2.)

I don't think its fair to compare Selina to Sarah. Selina is smart and knows things and it looks like she was a really good senator. And I don't think Jonah had to tell Selina what World War Two was about.

In my family there are 2 men now dying with hideous cancers. When they were young, just boys really, there numbers were pulled and they were drafted. For both of these men, their lives since their tours in hell have been so tough. One lived in the woods and the other tried so hard, every damn day to be a 'regular' guy. And today they are both surgically mutilated, suffering and struggling with their cancers while reliving what they barely lived through so many decades ago.
