Morality is not determined by the church you attend nor the faith you embrace. It is determined by the quality of your character and the positive impact you have on those you meet along your journey
Gervais is great! It took me several decades but I've finally grasped the fact that the bible isn't the word of god. Hope this gives hope and patience when any of you are dealing with the bible-believing crowd.
John Fugelsang isn't an atheist but does some great, informative, and still humorous take-downs of right-wing christians. Might be helpful if trying to make a point with religious friends and family.
Why bother trying to make points with friends and family about religion? It rarely makes a bit of difference and that's because these idiots CAN'T READ! They can't compare. They can't THINK!
The only members of my family who listen even half way are my nieces and nephews. And them only because I think I got through to them about thinking when they were quite young. Critical thinking. So far, I have had two of them reach 18 and BOTH told their parents to (very politely) STICK IT!
I'm hoping the other 5 will follow suit. And since all 7 are very intelligent and adore reading and actually discussing things - compared to yelling and demanding as their parents do - I'm not really worried.
And the fact that I am persona non-grata to the adults bothers me not in the slightest! It makes me rather happy, actually
Beauty is truth: truth, Beauty. Thank you, Ricky Gervais, for characterizing the "wisdom" of The Bible so beautifully and truthfully.
ReplyDeleteGee. I wonder why that is.
ReplyDeleteExactly, Mr. Gervais...
ReplyDeletePerfect!
ReplyDeleteChsnging "sexually frustrated men" to "sexually frustrated control freaks" would be appropriate. Also too, don'tcha know?
ReplyDeleteWell, when you put it that way....

I like his wit and sense of humor.
ReplyDeleteI had this quote of his on my desk for years:
"Everyone has the right to believe in anything they want. And everyone else has the right to find it fucking ridiculous."
