Give them an inch and they'll take ALL of a woman's reproductive rights away from her. Texas pushes "fetal heartbeat" bill which would effectively ban abortions at six weeks.

Courtesy of Salon:

With the ink barely dry on Texas’ sweeping new abortion law, three Republican members of the state House on Thursday filed a so-called “fetal heartbeat” ban, a measure that would criminalize abortion as early as six weeks, before most women even know they’re pregnant.

North Dakota is the only state to ban abortion at six weeks, though the law is currently being challenged by reproductive rights groups.

There has been no official comment on the measure as of this posting, though it will undoubtedly face harsh criticism and fierce opposition from the thousands of Texans rallying against the Republican-controlled Legislature’s efforts to eliminate access to safe abortion care in the state.

Anybody who did NOT see this coming is an idiot.

The goal of these short sighted misogynists is to ban abortions completely, limit a woman's options by tying them to her reproductive cycle, and eventually take women out of the work force entirely and put them permanently back into the home "where they belong."

Every woman, and not simply those living in Texas, need to rally together and fight this while they still have rights left to fight for.

You're right, Gryphen, women - all women, need to pay attention and stop this trend now!

As a woman, I do not understand why any women would fall for this horrid trend. Any that do must be mindless twits who love to be doormats.

3:03, that is exactly how a lot of them were raised because of their religion's teachings! They are brainwashed from birth!

      I pity them.

My step mother tried that with my sister. I put the K-bosh on that by teaching her different ways to think. AND by showing her all of the crap about women in the bible I was able to find - all at once. Amazing what happens when you are able to show slavery intensions all at once instead of a dribble here and a dribble there.

(My step mother doesn't like me very much. My sister LOVES me! Great trade-off in my book!)

When you post about Rick Perry, you should always use his Neidemeyer/Hitler-youth photo.

  4. Do you think it'd make any difference to the fetal obsessionists if they knew that the "fetal heart" is a simple balloon at fetal -- actually, "embryonic", not even fetal, technically -- 6 weeks gestational age, in a speck of tissue 5 MILLIMETERS (1/8 inch) from "crown to rump"? And that the "fetal heartbeat" is a flutter?

    1. No, it would make no difference whatsoever.

      Because that is science.

    O/T

Sorry, I don't like to do this, but there is an interesting twist to the Malala story on the BBC's news page: A letter from the head of the Taliban to her!

    1. I so wish her reply would be a simple FU, but that's not in her nature.

She could do a Pelosi So What.

But the best route is probably to ignore it, shunning the Taliban, like the Amish do to those that violate civil society.

And if she gets pregnant, she will be forced to carry one of those monsters' babies since Texas just took away her right to choose.

And that monster could be given visitation rights.

    3. And she could end up having to pay the monster child support.

Enzi-Cheney Primary Suddenly Makes Wyoming -- And Its Disproportionate Power -- Interesting

So that's one reason why this Wyoming primary is going to be very compelling -- it's the venue for a hot proxy war between Rand Paul's libertarianish insurgency and the neo-con old guard. For that reason, the nut grafs of all those "Enzi is getting primaried" pieces -- featuring Alan Simpson's concern-trolling that a Cheney bid was going to divide the Republican Party asunder -- look awfully silly in retrospect. You can't dissuade Liz Cheney from running on the grounds that she'll divide the Republican Party if dividing the Republican Party is the target at which she's aiming!

Of course, the more immediate conversation that Cheney is starting has to do with her choice of Senate seats, and the way Wyoming and its teensy population is incredibly over-represented in the Senate. In fact, when it comes to the way representation in the Senate in terms of population has gotten hellaciously out of whack, Wyoming is basically the test case.

That's not the worst of it. The proudly inbred and woefully uneducated lawmakers of North Virginia (official state bird: coal mining waste) just passed a law that prohibits abortion after the woman's panties are removed.

To the proper Texas lady with the "Pray to End Abortion" sign: Just because you make clean surgery illegal doesn't end abortion. The mystery murders around Fairbanks are a testament t that.

Chenagrrl, personally I believe we should urge her to pray even harder - especially if it keeps her ignorant ass away from the polling stations and OUT of other women's sexual organs!

Though I am pro life, I agree with Gryphen. I think it goes further, they want to take the vote away from women as well so the old gang of white boys can stay in power. They are chipping away at the rights of minorities and women and they will work for taking their votes away. All the progress of women and minorities are being eroded. The wealthy racists and misogynists want it this way and they will stop at nothing to get what they want and the useful idiots that are running the state are doing everything they can to please their benefactors. If people don't rise up and fight back, this country is DOOMED. Even though I believe life begins at conception, I don't think abortion should be banned completely. Women, you'd better rise up and take up the gauntlet or we will have NO power left.

  14. Yep. This is an I told you so moment. I predicted this.

    What next?

Denying women the right to vote?

Denying women the right to own property?

Only the first born MALE can inherit?

    Burkas?
