Is Sarah Palin still a resident of Alaska. Mostly likely not.

So the other day, as all of you well know, Mark Begich questioned whether or not Sarah Palin was still a resident of Alaska, and therefore eligible to run for his Senate seat. This resulted in an an angry and indignant flurry of Facebook and Twitter posts from the Wasilla Wendigo.

But IS Mark right?

Of course we know that Palin has spent a significant amount of time out of the state. But was it enough time to no longer be considered an Alaska resident?

That is somewhat hard to determine.

However in Alaska we have the Permanent Fund Dividend which EVERY Alaskan loves, and EVERY Alaskan makes sure to take advantage of as it is usually worth somewhere between 700 to 1000 dollars.

Now the eligibility requirements for receiving this money are as follows:

To qualify for a 2013 Permanent Fund Dividend you must be able to answer yes to all of the following statements.

I was a resident of Alaska during all of calendar year 2012;

On the date I apply for the 2013 Permanent Fund Dividend, I have the intent to remain an Alaska resident indefinitely;

I have not claimed residency in any other state or country or obtained a benefit as a result of a claim of residency in another state or country at any time since December 31, 2011;

I was not:
  • Sentenced as a result of a felony conviction during 2012;
  • Incarcerated at any time during 2012 as the result of a felony conviction; or
  • Incarcerated at any time during 2012 as the result of a misdemeanor conviction in Alaska if convicted of a prior felony or two or more prior misdemeanors since January 1, 1997
  • If absent from Alaska for more than 180 days, I was absent on an allowable absence; and
  • I was physically present in Alaska for at least 72 consecutive hours at some time during 2011 or 2012.
Pretty clear and easy to understand don't you think? And pretty flexible as well.

Essentially if Palin is not absent for MORE than half of the year, has not claimed residence in another state, and was not locked up for breaking the law, she gets this money free and clear, no strings attached (Besides paying taxes on it). And we all KNOW how much the Palin family likes to get free money!

So of COURSE she would have filed for the 2012 PFD, right?

Nuh uh, not right.

Following a thread that showed up in my comments section (Thanks by the way.), I did a little checking.

I went to the PFD data base, downloaded the PDF for those receiving checks this year (You are welcome to do the same.), and guess what?

That's right!

Here is the list of Palins for whom there are apparently NO barriers for receiving the PFD:

PALIN BRISTOL
PALIN DIANA D
PALIN FAYE IRENE
PALIN JAMES DEAN
PALIN JAMES FREDERICK
PALIN KYLA GRACE
PALIN LUZVIMINDA SERENO
PALIN MIRANDA
PALIN PIPER
PALIN TODD
PALIN TRACK
PALIN TRIG
PALIN VICTORIA ROSE
PALIN WENDY ANN

Did you notice whose missing? I bet that you did.

As you can see Willow is also MIA. I would assume that is because she was in "hair school" though there IS an exception made for residents attending college in other states so I am not exactly sure WHY she is not listed.

So I think THIS explains why Palin got her panties in a twist when Senator Begich called into question her residency and whether or not she qualifies to run for a Senate seat here in Alaska.

Because she DOESN'T!

And that also means, if Todd Palin IS spending enough time in Alaska to qualify for the PFD, and the Grizzled Mama is not, that a certain blogger was right way back in 2009 about the state of their marriage.

Hmm, do I sense another Facebook post coming?

Here's the actual quote from Todd Palin's email to Joe Miller:

It's also too there, perhaps tacky for millionaires to collect the PFD, which takes away the collective sharing of Alaska's wealth to those who need it more. To be fair, we'll criticize the half-term / part-time / co-Governor for collecting or not collecting the check. What's more an a outrage, is when the grifters collected the year she bought her popularity with the $1200 energy rebate, giving her that 80% approval rating without doing anything meaningful to address the energy crisis for off-the-grid parts of the State. If we were to use this list, their family made off with $192,000 (and that's not even including the Heath side, or the worth of the PFD that year also too.)

Then it is tacky for the spouse and children of a multi millionaire to collect money too isn't it? Also too and there no one is attacking skank for not collecting-we are saying that there IS a reason she is not collecting because she loves her some money.

Why does everyone else except willow and skank and trip collect the money? Willow at hair school and la and England. Trip didn't collect because???? Skank because she doesn't live there.

The PFD is a perk for living in Alaska. Alaskans also enjoy being a "recipient" state. That is, Alaska gets more federal dollars than it pays in federal taxes.

Couldn't Sarah Palin resume residency in Alaska in time to qualify to run for a Senate seat.

    Compare Hillary Clinton's senate run:

In 1999 Hillary Rodham Clinton made history of a different sort when she launched her candidacy for the U.S. Senate seat from New York being vacated by Daniel Patrick Moynihan. To meet the state’s residency requirement, she moved out of Washington, D.C., on Jan. 5, 2000, to a house that she and the president purchased in Chappaqua, New York.

Mitt Romney got himself in a residency flap when he claimed to be a resident of Utah in order to pay the lower local resident taxes (as opposed to the higher taxes that people paid on their vacation homes there). (Back when he worked on the Olympics). Then, it was time to run for governor in Massachusetts, and there was a residency requirement of so many years. But, Mitt had been a resident of Utah. What to do? Oh, it turned out that Utah made a "secretarial error," and the house was really in Ann's name. The Romneys paid the high taxes, became "non-residents," and voila, everything was "fixed up."

I expect to see the same stunt if Palin needs to claim residency in Alaska, too. But, she doesn't have anything to worry about. She is not going to be running for anything in Alaska, except maybe running her mouth. There is some reason why Sarah and Willow did not claim the money. It's not like them to pass up a single dollar. They were residents of Arizona, but there must have been another reason besides hair school.

I think the point Begich was making with his inquiry as to her residency status in Alaska was not so much that she couldn't step back in and qualify at some point - but that she hasn't spent much time in Alaska since the day she made that horrid speech about how she could do more for her state out of office then in - and probably wouldn't qualify today!

She made all the promises to Alaskan voters - and then rode off into the sunset (literally) and did absolutely nothing. Nothing at all.

She's been absent from Alaskan politics since July 2009. Begich's question of "is she even a resident still?" was - for me at least - more like shining a light on another of her lies. She doesn't care about Alaska. If she did, there would be a slew of programs and legislature lobbied by and promoted by her for Alaskan women, natives, handicapped children, etc. but there are none. None! She went to Haiti and India aNd Israel - but what has she done for Alaska?

She's not left a single footprint on the political environment in Alaska since she quit. And Begich just showed her it won't take any effort for an opponent to shine a light on a record that does not exist and expose her for the fraud she really is.

The woman makes a lot of false promises - especially when the smell of campaign money is in the air.

The scene was set during Bristol's lame show, "Life's a Tripp." Willow was contemplating going to cosmetology school during the show. (I don't have the strength to watch that show again to fact check the details.) Willow considered going to school in Anchorage, but I think that she didn't like the early hours or the long hours. She wanted something easier, and she chose Arizona.

There is a big beautiful house in Arizona where Willow could live while going to school there. Given some of the trouble she had gotten into in the past, I don't know if there are many parents who would hand Willow the keys to the mansion for a couple of years of unsupervised living. Sarah may have needed to lived there too, or maintain residency in Arizona for Willow to go to school there.

I think that there is more to the story than just "I wanted to go to school in Arizona." I think that there is the added element of Willow finishing high school in a record two years. I saw her on that show and she didn't come across as the kind of student who would finish school in less than four years. We also haven't seen Willow's small business yet. If Sarah would post a lame photo of Piper being led around a horse while firing her pistol, Sarah would have photos of Willow's new business up there in a heartbeat. There is something behind Willow going to school in Arizona.

There is a provision in the Alaska Fund for students going to school out of state. This was a matter of residency, and there may have been other reasons behind the story. I see a pattern in the Palin family. When there is some kind of trouble, they get out of town. Track went to Michigan, the nearest state that had a high school hockey program. Bristol went to live with an aunt. Willow went to Arizona. Hmmmmm

Why never a picture of Brisdull's 'job' at the alleged dermatologist office? Why no pictures of Willow busily at work in the beauty trade? Why no news on Track's new "job"??

The operant words are "work' and "job." $arah is likely afraid to have any of her $pawn out in public "working" for fear they will say/do something out of her control.

My understanding is that the Alaska PFD is basically seen as a tax break. Don't we all try to do well on our tax returns no matter what income bracket? THAT SAID--- I'm wondering why Todd was able to file at all, wasn't he holding the wobbledy ho-bag up so she could speak at all her appearances? Wouldn't he have been out of state just as much as $carah?

      Delete
    3. Anonymous12:47 PM

10:19 Your comment about tax break makes no sense in light of how the PFD works.

Those are payments for extraction of OUR resources (as per the Alaska Constitution).

      We pay taxes on them.

The money comes from the State of Alaska and isn't a "tax break" for oil companies. It is part of the taxes they pay to the state for using the oil.

I suppose as a cost of doing business they can write it off on their federal (or country) income tax.

And I'd say Alaskans file for the PFD to PROVE they are Alaskans. If you don't need the money you donate it to someone who does.

Is the Alaska fund really necessary these days to the folks that live in Anchorage and suburbs? I mean, there are strip malls in Wasilla - whats so rough and hard about living there?? I get , maybe, giving some incentive to people who really really live in the boonies, give them alot more money and stop giving it to the people whose life is no different or harder than anyone else in the lower 48. i mean, come on, lots of places in the lower 48 are way more isolated than Anchorage and surrounding area. I don't get it. It seems to be an old perk that is not really needed anymore.
I want some money for living downwind of refineries in the mid atlantic.! I mean, my windows are disgusting from soot. My garden products need to be washed multiple times to get the airborne shit off them.
Where's my incentive for living here???

    ReplyDelete

    1. Anonymous9:06 AM

On average cost of living is 25% higher in the urban areas of AK as compared to the lower 48 states. In rural areas it is much, much higher. There is abject poverty both in the bush and in urban Alaska and this money is very important to many families that struggle to make ends meet. There are also plenty of residents to whom it makes no difference financially, however they are guaranteed the payout just the same. It is not need based.

Alaska's constitution states that our mineral wealth is "owned" by the residents. Governor Jay Hammond crafted the PFD to assure that oil profits are invested in a Permanent Fund, a portion of whose annual interest is shared amongst those that qualify. The PFD is simply sharing in the mineral wealth that is shared by all residents of AK, it is not need based.

I don't know of another state that has such a stipulation built into their constitution.

I'm sorry that you live in such a polluted place. Have you gotten together with your neighbors and written the oil companies and complained about the pollution? I'm sure they couldn't care less but if enough of you stood up in outrage they might consider cleaning up their act.

Here in AK the oil companies are pretty heavily "watchdogged" but we still have spills and other accidents that pollute the pristine areas where they drill. It's dirty business and thankfully very little of it happens near populated areas in AK, but the oil companies must still be watched carefully lest they ruin some of the last pristine wilderness in North America. Canada has let the tar sands operators run roughshod over Alberta and they've left absolute devastation in their wake; once they get a foot into your community it takes constant vigilance and often times EPA involvement to keep them honest.

      Delete
    2. Anonymous9:54 AM

This is true, the PFD is not needs-based. The PFD was put in place so all Alaskans could share in the wealth of oil extraction in our state. It is similar to Norway’s insistence that its citizens share in the commons. I think it is the way it should be everywhere and it is just wrong you should not share in the wealth generated by the extraction of resources in your state. It is even more wrong you have to live downwind without the ability to avoid the obvious disgusting dirty environmental results of said extraction. You need to become proactive with your community and complain to the EPA with all your might. This is wrong, wrong, wrong. And, don’t think it is easier up here! Big business has a stranglehold on my community too. We also have out of control environmental degradation and most Alaskans are not the tree-loving people you would think people who live in such incredible beauty would be. Most are just as afraid for the loss of their jobs and incomes if they complain about poor working conditions, pollution and criminal labor practices as are people elsewhere in the world. Before oil Alaskans were much more progressive and now we labor under oil patch politics supported by conservative and conservatively religious people who came from oil patch states to work the oil patch.
The PFD is a real gift for many Alaskans and yet some decry any type of progressive action (like demanding clean air and water in their communities) as “socialism” (go figure) despite the fact they receive this dividend, a sharing of the wealth.

I have cousins in Alaska, and I think they use their PFD every year to buy airline tickets so they can visit family in the lower 48. Actually, Willow may very well not have qualified either. Allowable absences include:

    1. receiving secondary or postsecondary education on a full-time basis; 2. receiving vocational, professional, or other specific education on a full-time basis for which, as determined by the Alaska Commission on Postsecondary Education, a comparable program is not reasonably available in the state;

I don't think 1 would include Hair School and even though it would fall under 2, she could have done it in Alaska.

I am also wondering why Breeze isn't on the 2013 list. A baby I know who was born there in Nov 2012 is on it.

And I don't see how you can claim she isn't in AK most of the time. I will give you 2012 because of Willows school and dwts stuff.

This also doesn't explain Kristan Cole AND family, none of whom live in Alaska full time, ALL of whom own homes elsewhere. They all collect. Kristan for one lives in AZ. Though I don't know her tax info.

Sarah is still seen around AK, but because she works in the states, is it really that weird to have a home? I mean, AZs a pretty common destination for Alaskans in general to own property and frequently vaca.

Maybe Sarah is planning to run in Arizona and Todd run for some office in Alaska. Wow, now we can see a Todd pac fund coming for donations. Maybe they figure there is a good chance one will win.

No Arizonan woman will vote for someone that abandoned their special needs child and left them in Alaska while she moved to AZ. BTW AZ doesn't really like outsiders, especially...well who likes anyone that abandons their tot.

There were enough morons in Arizona to elect Jan Brewer. I'm not convinced there won't be enough morons to elect Sarah Palin.

This post really must have hit too close to home. It really got the "asses, slander and grow up" troll out. I figure Willow, Piper, or Todd.

Just occurred to me that Troll would be a good name for their next baby. Surely there is an Uncle Troll somewhere in the family.

  58. Just think Sarah that $ could have gone for 1/4 of a new boobie job...but now it'll have to go to someone in need.

OT: too funny, concealed handgun license holders may go through a fast line in the Texas Capitol, but today at the Capitol, women are having their tampons confiscated (evidently you can keep the one in your vagina).
