Gabby Giffords SuperPAC to fight for gun control raises over six million dollars!

Courtesy of HuffPo:

The super PAC created by former Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and her husband, former NASA astronaut Mark Kelly, to provide a counter-weight to the politically powerful National Rifle Association raised $6.5 million in its first six months of operation, according to a Federal Election Commission report filed Wednesday.

Unlike many other super PACs, Americans for Responsible Solutions received broad support from small and medium-sized donors. Tens of thousands of small donors giving less than $200 combined for a total $3.2 million to Giffords' group, and thousands of medium-sized donors giving under $1,000 accounted for slightly more than $1 million.

I am proud to say that even though I have been trying to avoid giving anymore money to charities and causes, that I was more than willing to send my $100 to Gabby. So yes my donation made up a very small part of this rather incredible sum.

And isn't it nice to see that people are so willing to give to such a positive and important political cause? Especially when you consider how poorly a certain Little Miss Blood Libel did the other day with HER PAC.

Not to mention that the NRA, in the first six months of 2013, has only raised a little of 7 million themselves.

God I love Karma!  (Not that I believe in it, but you know.)

And they were responsible fof getting Todd Jones named Director of the ATF, a position the GOP has blocked for SEVEN years now (yes, the entire term of Obama as been lacking an ATF Director.) So, we may finally see some national action on background checks. Go Gabby!

Pennsylvania police chief suspended over profanity-laced, anti-liberal gun videos

The Pennsylvania police chief who made a profanity-laced videos while firing machine guns and ranting about liberals has been suspended without pay for 30 days.

After a 55-minute executive session, the Gilberton Borough Council voted 5-1 on Wednesday to suspend Chief Mark Kessler for using “borough property for non-borough purposes without prior borough permission” by using machine guns and other weapons in his YouTube videos. Kessler had donated the weapons to the borough earlier in the year.

In online videos posted in July, Kessler had used profanity to berate “libtards” and suggested an armed rebellion against the government.

Mark, it is your turn as a true American to run for office in your state. You would have an excellent consultant in Gabby to help you along the way. America is looking for great American role models and it is your turn to step up to the plate.

After all she's been through (and still going through) have you ever seen Gabby Giffords less than perfectly turned out for all her public appearances? In sharp contrast to the Palin woman.....

    1. She is also very much better at raising money.

Gabby Giffords is the major reason why Sarah Palin will never run for public office again.

Liberal Super PACs Turn Tables, Outraise Conservatives

Democrats have become the kings of super PACs.

With Congress fighting over gun legislation and immigration, and 2014 midterm races already simmering, many left-leaning donors are eagerly bankrolling these free-spending groups that the party faithful have often criticized for unleashing unlimited money into political races.

Liberal-aligned super PACs combined to raise more than $40 million during the first half of 2013, according to a Center for Public Integrity review of filings submitted to the Federal Election Commission.

Their conservative counterparts, meanwhile, collectively raised roughly $20 million.

I'm waiting for her to go to Chitown. Then again, she'd probably lose Obama's support, since he feels need to ignore his troublesome and most corrupt in the country stomping grounds,

    Has The Tea Party Peaked?

Republican members of Congress can breathe easier. There aren't as many tea-party challengers looking to run anymore.

As the prospects for passing comprehensive immigration reform have dwindled, a favorite pundit talking point has emerged: "House Republicans are voting so conservatively because they fear a campaign challenge from their right." The mere threat of primaries has become the catch-all for explaining Republican opposition in the House.

But as the argument became ubiquitous in 2013, something funny happened. The number of conservative challengers going up against GOP members of Congress hasn't developed as had been expected. In fact, there are currently as many notable Democratic primary challengers to incumbents as Republican intraparty battles.

    They start young, don't they?

A 12-year-old boy in Pennsylvania will be charged in juvenile court after he allegedly used a BB gun to rob a lemonade stand, the Associated Press reported.

Authorities in Johnstown, Pa. said that the boy used what what was ostensibly a handgun in his pocket to threaten the 10-year-old boy who was running the stand. A scuffle ensued between the two boys before the 12-year-old made out with $30.

Other children chased the 12-year-old and helped the police located him at his home, which is where they learned that he had used a BB gun.

Every time I see Gabby's beautiful face and the obvious love between her and Mark, I'm a little more disgusted by Sarah Palin.

You, Sarah, are responsible for what happened to Gabby as surely as if you pulled the trigger yourself. AND you, Sarah, have no conscience and therefore no sense of shame for what you caused.

They're like vermin, sliding under or into something before you know it. Texas sure is earning itself a reputation as a neanderthal level educational leader. Hey you really smart IMers from Austin and thereabouts, why don't you get your butts over to this catastrophe and try and stop this madness!!!

Creationists Get Influential Positions in Texas Science Textbook Review

Remember the last time the religious right in Texas tried to sneak Christian creationism into public school science classes? Well, they’re back.

Actually, they never went away, and the Republican anti-science religious fanatics on the State Board of Education are making another big play to influence the textbooks that teach American kids biology: Alarm Bells Are Ringing: Creationists Get Influential Positions in Texas Science Textbook Review.

It looks like the Lone Star State’s reputation as a hotbed of anti-science fanaticism is about to be reinforced. At least six creationists/”intelligent design” proponents succeeded in getting invited to review high school biology textbooks that publishers have submitted for adoption in Texas this year. The State Board of Education (SBOE) will decide in November which textbooks to approve. Those textbooks could be in the state’s public school science classrooms for nearly a decade.

Among the six creationist reviewers are some of the nation’s leading opponents of teaching students that evolution is established, mainstream science and is overwhelmingly supported by well over a century of research. Creationists on the SBOE nominated those six plus five others also invited by the Texas Education Agency to serve on the biology review teams. We have been unable to determine what those other five reviewers think about evolution.

Although 28 individuals got invites to review the proposed new biology textbooks this year, only about a dozen have shown up in Austin this week for the critical final phase of that review. That relatively small overall number of reviewers could give creationists even stronger influence over textbook content. In fact, publishers are making changes to their textbooks based on objections they hear from the review panelists. And that’s happening essentially behind closed doors because the public isn’t able to monitor discussions among the review panelists themselves or between panelists and publishers. The public won’t know about publishers’ changes (or the names of all the review panelists who are in Austin this week) until probably September. Alarm bells are ringing.

Following are the six creationists/evolution critics we have identified so far on the biology review teams:

People who can't control their pets shouldn't own them. Why wasn't that dog muzzled and locked in a kennel? That dog is a vicious assault weapon. Did they have to pass a background check to buy it?

A Republican state legislator in Washington told a group of tea party members and survivalists at a rally to buy thousands of rounds of ammunition to prepare for an economic collapse.

At an Idaho state park last weekend, State Rep. Matt Shea (R-Spokane Valley) said that preparation is the key to surviving what he said is an "inevitable collapse that is going to happen," the Coeur d'Alene Press reported. Shea was one of multiple speakers to bring up preparation; another speaker urged the creation of militias.

Shea, an Army veteran, told the crowd how to prepare, the Coeur d'Alene Press reports:

"When it happens, we need to look at this as a opportunity, not a crisis," he said. "Who's [sic] job is liberty? That's our job."

Shea urged the crowd to stock up on thousands of rounds of ammunition and to stay in shape, practice shooting, learn self defense and special tactics.

When he was in the military, Shea said one of his superiors told him something he will never forget.

"Be prepared at any given moment to give up your job to do what is right," he said. "You have to stand up for what is right - even if it means you have to stand up to your government."

Shea, a third-term lawmaker, was introduced to the crowd as one of the Southern Poverty Law Center's most hated politicians, a label Shea embraced at the rally. The SPLC's website describes Shea's belief that President Barack Obama is planning to take guns away from Americans and that the federal government is setting up concentration camps. The SPLC notes that Shea once told conservative talk show host Alex Jones that the federal government was behind the bombing of the federal building in Oklahoma City in 1995 and that Obama is running a secret army Shea described as "very sinister."

This year, Shea promoted legislation to bring more ammunition and gun-parts manufacturers to the state to help residents who own guns.

The Seattle Post-Intelligencer reported that Shea was in the news in recent years when his ex-wife accused him during their divorce of treating her as a "possession" and forcing her to walk on his left hand side since he could carry a sword on his right. In 2011, Shea was involved in an incident where he pointed a loaded gun at a driver who cut him off and then engaged the other vehicle in a high-speed chase.
