Just when you thought that shopping at Wal-Mart could not get any more surreal.

Courtesy of Think Progress:

Beginning last week, Pastor Terry Holcomb started posting videos of himself wandering into local businesses with an AR-15 Bushmaster rifle — the same weapon used to kill 20 children and six adults in the Newtown, Connecticut school shooting.

In one video, Holcomb wanders about a Walmart for several minutes before he is approached by two store employees and asked to leave. He argues briefly with those two employees until a manager approaches and threatens to call the police if he does not exit the store. Although Holcomb then agrees to leave the store, he refuses a request to stop videoing the engagement — at one point, his camera man claims the recording is for Holcomb’s “safety.”

Holcomb told a local news station that the purpose of his conspicuously armed visits to Huntsville businesses is to protest a Texas law which permits gun owners to openly carry long rifles but not handguns, which must be concealed and can only be carried by individuals with valid concealed carry permits.

Yet, while a legal regime that regulates handguns more strictly than assault rifles may seem counter-intuitive, it is entirely sensible to apply stricter regulations to handguns than to other firearms in light of the fact that handguns are so frequently used to commit homicides.

Okay now here's the thing, I DON'T think this is so muhc about trying to make a point about the 2nd Amendment is that it is simply an opportunity for this guy to feel like a bad ass and get some attention.

And keep in mind that this is a PASTOR!

Usually when I think of pastors I think of officiating at funerals, performing marriage ceremonies, and offering grief counseling, NOT walking around Wal-Mart like a second rate Rambo daring anybody to challenge his "right" to walk around like a second rate Rambo.

Not only that but you will notice that the guy also adds text to the video essentially insulting the store representative (Hot Rod) who asked him to leave and pretending that he has no idea why his behavior would make people uncomfortable or even frighten the shoppers.

I have seen a number of these videos depicting people walking around with automatic, or semi-automatic rifles, and video cameras, essentially waiting to be kicked out of a store or challenged by the police so that they can whine about their rights on video, and then post it to the internet.

My assumption is that they think this is helping their cause, but my feeling is quite the opposite.

And once again might I simply suggest that these gentlemen resist the urge to purchase these ridiculous weapons and save up their money for the penile enlargement surgery that they clearly all need to compensate for their inadequacies, and stop acting like assholes.

What kind of rifle would Jesus carry into a store while acting like an ass?

    Sorry for the OT
For Gryphen... would be lovely if you could park outside of Bristol's "job" and see if she really goes in (or comes out).
More and more I'm thinking it's just a cover for when she and her mama go in for "treatments" .. they can just claim they are going to work (or bringing Bristol lunch)

Come on, we all know she gets up 4 a.m. every morning to bathe Trip and get him ready for Bible Class and hockey practice while she straps him on her back and walk in the snow 5 miles up a hill each way. . .she's a hard worker also too.

I just don't understand the mindset that makes a pastor who preaches the word of God think that it's okay to walk around public places armed with the kind rifle that took so many lives in CT.

Regardless of what he might claim, this kind of display is meant to be intimidating and frightening and is the LAST thing someone who professes to be a man of God should be doing.

How do they reconcile Jesus' teachings with this kind of confrontational behavior?

  6. Of course he would have a cup to spit tobackey juice in, gross, disgusting behavior seems to be consistent here.

I saw on the news that members of the small dick club were parading around menacing people at a hearing on restricting the carrying of weapons at the MN state capitol. They say it is about "our rights" but is it really more about insecurity?

  10. I got as far as hearing that man say "we were actually blessed with a nice breeze"....THAT scares me!!!! This guy uses words like "being blessed" from some higher power while he's wearing an automatic/semi weapon? WTF!!!!!!!!

And did anyone else notice how many people casually walked along side the pastor, on the side where the barrel of the gun ended? After all the stories Gryphen has posted about guns going off accidentally, even when the owner believed they had emptied the gun of bullets, I can tell you I would NEVER walk anywhere near that part of any type of gun. Yes I know he was carrying the gun on his back, but considering how idiotic this guy is I wouldn't put it past him to somehow inadvertently discharge the weapon. How I don't know. I just know that if it happened I certainly wouldn't want to be standing on that side if the guy. I'm just sayin'

The gun carrying fools always say that if everyone had a concealed weapon, they could save others from a killer. What if---someone carrying a concealed weapon saw this guy (or any other) walking thru WalMart and jumped to the conclusion that he was going to start shooting and he shoots the idiot just waltzing thru the store with his big gun. Then What??? Too many guns, not enough brains!!

    1. Exactly. And how long before the good Pastor's kid is around when he's cleaning the 'empty' gun, and gets shot? Or his kid is depressed, and when Daddy is off at church pretneding to be humble and loving, gets into Daddy's stash and kills himself? It happened in m y town recently. There are more teen suicides in homes with guns..duh!

Being ordained or whatnot does not make any of these kinds of men fit for breaking bread in your home. You can get such useless declarations online. Him being a pastor isn't the most surprising thing about it.

Penile enlargement wouldn't help. The guy probably can't get it up unless a gun is shoved up his ass.

Guns and god, what could go wrong.

BTW, I could take that gun away from him quite easily at several points in this video even though I'm female and 5'3". Someday, an idiot with an even bigger feeling of penile inadequacy will take that weapon from him and use it on innocent bystanders. God's will, I suppose.

Could this pastor possibly be doing this for attention, ie, another way to fill up more pews and accomplish 'double-barrel' fund-raising?

As for Anonymous 3:53's comment, "They say it is about "our rights" but is it really more about insecurity?", I confess that, at this stage of their game, I think it is now more of an exercise and attempt to deny us OUR rights than to exert their own rights. JMO, as I watch this hate movement develop.

The rightie nutcases really seem intent on turning our country into another Egypt or Syria, where armed and intolerant people who desire a theocracy has created hell on earth. It's one thing to have spiritual beliefs – if you live by them. It's totally another thing altogether to desire to impose your beliefs on others. Eventually, the latter will always lead to bloodshed. It's not President Obama who is destroying the very fabric of America: it's hate-filled, angry people who are full of crazy ideas, arm themselves due to their paranoia and inability to accept the differences of others, and then take things to a whole 'nother level – of division, meanness, anger, bigotry, and downright crazy.

About 90 percent of the stupid and horrible things that we read about on this blog are directly attributable to the Koch brothers and their tentacled, and well-funded, entities. It is they who set the agendas, private and public (in the various legislatures, and in Congress). These agendas are implemented first, through the daily talking points of characters such as Rove, Hannity, and others. Just like clockwork, these talking points are then gobbled up, repeated, and spewed out by the rest of the righties in lemming-like fashion.

We spend much time, effort, and attention on the Palins and other right-wing angry crazies. But, without their puppeteers, funders, and agenda-setters, they would have very little power – and very few people would be listening to them.

My thought is this: what can we do to get the puppeteers to alter their behavior? They are wreaking havoc on this country and, if they don't stop, the damage they are causing could be unfixable. Any ideas???

One step is to vote their puppets out of office as soon as possible. Another is to keep doing what you are doing and that is to keep the Koch Brothers' names in front of the public. They do not want public scrutiny. I don't understand how anyone, who wants to control public policy as much as these guys do, refuses to run for office. Then, we, the people, could tell them where to go. Of course, they are both too cowardly to face the American people directly. So their strategy is to create a "perfect" corporatist totalitarian state and then manage it from behind the scenes. Neither of them wants to end up being labelled a "Hitler" but what they are doing is slowly creating just that kind of world by encouraging groups of people to hate and fear one another, to enlarge the already sizable gulf between the rich and poor. We should all be very concerned and we should each address the situation to the best of our abilities.

I got an email the other day with a petition to sign. It said David Koch now sits on the board of WGTV, and the petition creator wanted him removed. WGTV is apparently one of the major suppliers of programs to our PBS channels.
Their reason, which was one of dozens I could think of, and was very valid, was that the Kochs are big climate change deniers and he would now have a means to control the content of science programs like NOVA and such that WGTV creates/funds. These guys are slipping their tentacles into everything. Ick!

If I was him I'd be afraid that another of my kind would freak out and pull out their concealed weapon and shoot him, because he mistakenly thought that the thing he feared most, a crazy mass murderer, had entered Walmart, and his concealed weapon was finally going to come in handy.

I wouldn't laugh, but I'd think that it was rather ironic.
